  • Up to now, we have been said only a little about the role, importance, practical benefits, and transfer effects of footwork in martial arts during mace training. In videos on our RUclips channel, you can find a few variations of the exercises performed in the alternate stance.
Today’s video is a good example of how you can take advantage of the dynamic Karla kattai exercises with even more active footwork. In our previous posts, we have written about why the mace is an excellent tool for developing the conditioning skills needed for martial arts, such as strength, endurance, and joint mobility, as well as coordination skills such as balance and spatial orientation.
Our post today is about the transfer effect of Karla kattai exercises on the footwork which needed for combat movement. When applying fighting exercises - be it shadow box, sparring or real fight - a high degree of attention on the part of the participants is required in choosing the right tactics, changing situations impose a constant decision-making situation on both fighters. The fighting distances (external combat, close fight and internal combat) determine the solutions that can be considered from the learned technical repertoire. Effective response to an opponent's actions requires the ability to recognize the action situation and the ability to react quickly to unexpected situations.
The most commonly used base position of the combat position is the alternate stance position. From this, the displacement takes place in a straight line, laterally, with breakaway and circular motion. In the video, you can see several examples of these movements, but for now, we would like to draw attention to the usefulness of the switch-foot used predominantly in the implementation of the exercise.
When changing legs, it is important to have the correct bounce, is the order of bending the joints (hip - knee - ankle) and protruding (hip - knee - ankle). It develops dynamic jumping which supports rapid position and position movement with the active participation of the whole body. Karla Kattai exercises have to be executed in rhythm, keeping the balance at the right pace, coordinating the work of the athlete’s legs and hands so that the practitioner can master a device with significant weight in motion - it is no small challenge for the athlete. It is possible to increase the dynamics, thereby improving the explosiveness, to lower the knee flexion, with keep lower the center of gravity of the body, and to perform the exercise with a higher speed of arm swinging.
