    "Olympic eats Hawkes for breakfast."
--- RMS Olympic/HMS Hawke Collsion and its Lasting Impact

"But it's Full Brain Time now."
    --- S.S. Titanic or R.M.S. Titanic?
"One book I can recommend though, it's called --- Hey, there's a seagull on the screen. --- That's not the title of the book though." Our Demos In-Depth - Livestream (Oct 13, 2019)
"I have some bad news for you. This might be the last update of the year where I'm wearing a Hawaiian shirt. Its just gettin' colder out."

tl;dr Titanic was sunk by Big Carpet to maintain their monopoly on floor coverings.

    • @AvengerII
      @AvengerII 4 года назад +4

      Hey,
It's just as valid as the kooky theories where
      A) Titanic was swapped with Olympic in a complex insurance scam and Olympic was the ship that sank!
      B) All those rich people were sent on the ship ON PURPOSE to be killed so that JP Morgan could form the Federal Reserve without opposition!
      C) Titanic didn't sink because of an iceberg; it was a coal bunker fire that did it in OR a German u-boat that fired a torpedo to make an example of it 3 years before the Lusitania!
      D) If what happened wasn't good enough, fall back on good old anti-Semitism and blame the Jews or Freemasons! It's all a Rothschild plot!
People aren't satisfied with the weird enough coincidences of the actual history. They want to insert their own biases, their prejudices, and racism to find someone to blame!
This is a pretty sane group by comparison to what I read in the commentaries about most Titanic videos nowadays. It's only concerned with the floor patterns!
It's okay to like linoleum or not like it. At least this is more like Monty Python than a tabloid newsrag!
At least there are fewer Sunday quarterbacks commenting and complaining about things they don't understand the context of, people whose information about the Big T is solely from motion pictures and sensationalized documentaries...

Also what’s interesting is how some of these tile patterns stuck around for decades into the future from when Titanic was built as the cream and black checkerboard pattern tiles also remained quite popular from the end of the Second World War and didn’t really start to fall out of fashion and modern architecture until the mid to late 1990s! There were also a couple of diamond patterns that came back into popularity in modern architecture in the 1980s and early to mid 1990s so it’s still quite interesting of how sometimes designs like that can come back into fashion years or even decades into the future after their first peak of popularity! :)

Something I've always wondered about: how did meal times work on Titanic, or the ships of that period in general? I assume there were probably set hours for breakfast, then a break, then a lunch or mid-day meal, another break, and then dinner. I'm referring to the dining rooms, not the onboard restaurants or other public spaces where a steward might bring you something to eat. Were passengers assigned tables and eating times, for example? Did one always eat with the same table companions? And I expect the "rules" were somewhat different for each class, but I'm curious. Lawrence Beesley wrote about finding himself in the same lifeboat with one of his dinner companions, which gave me the impression that seating and times for meals in 2nd Class were assigned.

If that's true, this may very well be the first time that the team has made _any_ reference to either of those movies.

How do the tiles feel? Are they hard, like a modern day tile - where a lady’s high heel shoe would make a clip clop sound - or do they feel like hard rubber?

Could you imagine being the designer who was responsible for determining what floor coverings went where? How would you decide what design went where and how much to spend on each space. Kinda like the pool gets a class b design with £1 23p per foot verse the 2nd class public toilet gets class d design with £1 etc. How do you tell Mr Andrews you spent 200% the funds you were supposed to on decking

Btw, why does the Titanic Museum still say that linoleum was a new expensive luxury material?
