The idea of a "team up" between Dan and Spider-Man, where Spider-Man has to do the entirety of the work, is hilarious.

I love how in a MARVEL VS game, where everyone gets bigger and flashier special moves and supers, Dan's fireball gets even SMALLER, i always thought that was hilarious, lol.

@@joshualowe959 Not tottaly accurate...while her normal kikkouken stays about the same, Chun Li's Kikkou Shou on every other game is about the size of a beachball in front of her(in games which she has it), in the marvel vs series, it becomes a giant barrier around her that encapsules 1/3 of the double sized screen.
In Dan's case...his Hao Gadouken at LEAST flies full screen in games like street fighter 4...in here...it never gets past 1 third of the screen xD
Seriously, he has a move in which he draws a picture(or signs an autograph? i'm not sure) and tosses it at the opponent and THAT is a better projectile attack then his ki ball projectile XD!

I feel like Spider-Man was the perfect character to partner with Dan, just cause I feel like he's the only Marvel character on the roster who'd put up with him.
Spider-Man puts up and sometimes even gets along with Deadpool, so that tracks.

For me, it was when I first really picked up on fighting games, starting with the forgiving SF4. Dan happened to be one of the fighters, and with his assortment of silly costumes (especially that grass skirt) and his back dash being a goofy run akin to Joseph Joestar, and finally an ultra combo literally just him taunting! ....Let's just say I've never looked back.
When my brother taught me how to play Alpha, he told me to pick a character and stick with them. I picked Dan because if I ever beat anyone with him, they could never say I beat them because I picked a cheap character. He was so mad when my hard reads and irritation tactics made me 7-3 against his Akuma.

For anyone interested in learning the Dan lore, he sometimes shouts おやじー！ (oyajiii!), for example when he does his raging demon. That means, "Fatheeeer!"
Ya taze...oyajiiiii!
It's also another nod to KoF/AoF. Yuri Sakazaki (Ryo's sister) also shouts "Faaaatheeer!" when losing a round. Thou she uses "Oto-san" instead of "Oyaji", which I think is a more respecful way of saying It.
And, his Raging Demon is called Otoko Michi, Path of Man

I love how Dan's level 3 wipes out most of his health and does the damage of, like, one standing heavy punch. It's like 16's "I HAVE NO OTHER OPTIONS" but absolutely terrible. It's peak Dan.
The funny thing? In Marvel 2 it is the single most powerful move in the game.

I remember beating Cyber akuma once with Dan, BY TOSSING AN AUTOGRAPH TO HIM! That was the most hype I had in this game, because that's Dan best projectile in distance, but does a pixel of damage after it's thrown (and also the game has a super like ending if you beat an opponent with it).

Years ago when I played this at an arcade my mom would tell me that my eyesight might go bad from it, watching this now and struggling with so many flashes on the screen... Maybe she was onto something.
Being the worst character in the game (more than once) makes Dan an automatic middle finger just by picking him. It puts your opponent in such a terrible spot because now they can't win.
If they beat you, it means nothing because you were using DAN.
If you beat them, it means they are absolute TRASH because YOU WERE USING DAN.
It's just so hard not to feel like a total asshole for just for picking the guy.
That ending was a joke about the ending of the first Art of Fighting.

Spiderman has always looked insanely good in these VS games. His dynamic battle stance, the opening, taunt and closing animations and his attacks, which definitely appear to have influenced his 3D games combat animations.
I don't think that, personally, he has ever looked better. Love his voice too.
Dood, the Otoko Michi at the end didn't miss, it can be tech'ed out like a regular throw, just like Yoga Strike.
Also, 3 things you missed out:
1. When starting a fight with Dan, in the VS screen press and keep down LK to see a special Dan intro.
2. Make QCF QCF + Taunt to see Dan perform Chouhatsu Densetsu, the wierd super you were looking for.
3. If you win a fight with the move where he thows his picture, the background changes like when you win with a hyper move.
man Max struggled to get this one done on-stream couldn't get the Saturn to work so he used Fightcade
You look like you're having so much fun with this series, Max!
Fun fact: since the game allows you to keep beating up your downed opponent after you win a fight, you can actually scuffle with your team partner after beating Cyber Akuma, the IA taking over if you keep hitting him/her, mirroring the fight at the end of X-Men vs Street Fighter.
I used this so much as therapy since the Ps EX version demanded you beat arcade mode (this meant 1 v1 since the only way to play 2 v 2 was mirror matching) in one go, no losses to be able to unlock both final bosses. Fun times!

These CVS2/QSound games have soundtracks way better than seems warranted given the noisy arcade setting they're made for. MvSF, MvC1, SF Alpha 1&2, D&D: Shadow Over Mystara, Mega Man Power Fighters... all amazingly good.
