I think sometimes it's a mask and sometimes it's his actual face, depends on the game. I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that he suffered so many blows to the face his nose got disfigured to resemble a tengu.

I was VERY hopeful for a “X-Babies Vs Pocket Fighter” game given how well the working relationship SEEMED to be between Capcom and Marvel at the time. It just seemed like the logical progression, and we could have Mojo as the final boss. Reality sucks sometimes.

The old-school Marvel fan in me wants the X-Babies (though it was later expanded to Avengers) just to have a realistic Mojo as the final boss to beat up, but I understand going for the greater appeal. We need new games with as much charm as Pocket Fighter and Rival Schools.
I think if they did a new Pocket Fighter they should keep the character selection down to one of each body type, and go crazy on move based costume changes. So the 'short male' character gets an attack where he wears a wolverine costume and does something like wolverine's slide or bezerker barge. The 'muscle' male character gets one of Colossus' moves and the costume. The roster should be small, but the costume references should be all over the place.
@@farhanasharmin8997 In puzzle games like Tetris and Puyo Puyo, you attack by sending other players garbage blocks (by clearing or destroying blocks or lines) and they'll lose when the blocks reach the top of the board. In Gem Fighter, by making a ball (I don't know what it's called, I haven't played that game) contacts the block with the same color, you'll destroy all the blocks with the same color connected to each other, and because Dan's attacks only send you red blocks, which means with a little luck you can easily destroy all the garbage he sends to you.
New reminder that in the ending Sakura actually calls Dan's moves "retarded and useless in combat". It might be because Dan's best moves involves his dead dad and hers are probably still alive.
I love watching all these legacy videos, brings me back to an era of nostalgic games. Pocket Fighters is so underrated too. Capcom just give us Capcom All Stars already! 😭😭😭
In all(?) of the other games in which Dan appears, he uses a...Raging Suicide???...instead. The move drops him down to one pixel of life (whether it connects or not) except in here.
Tessa dies like Arthur, complete with sound effect. It's all the little touches and references like this that I just don't see too many companies care about in games much anymore.
actually, there's a few death animations that are references and that any character can have happen there's the arthur one you mentioned, there's the megaman explosion, there's the final fight "fall on the ground and flash"...
That's my complaint too. It's like they have a library of IPs but they don't do anything with them. No even cameos in other games. It's like they want to forget their legacy, even though it's where they got them where they are.

As for Dan (the star of this legacy), the Elvis costume is also a reference to the character Johnny from the Beat’em Up Arcade game “Battle Circuit”.

Yeah Tessa made her debut in Red Earth / Warzard in 1996 but she also made appearances in Card Fighters Clash, Card Fighters Clash 2, Card Fighters Clash DS, and SNK VS Capcom Chaos.
I like how Ruy, Ken and Goku get their specials with fire, electricity, etc when they're max level, while Dan finally gets the regular version. For instance, at level 3 he gets the regular sized fireball (still not travelling the whole distance).
Shingo is my BOY, but I wouldn't call him a joke character. Shingo's team has actually won the KOF tournament a couple times, and he's stupid strong. Also fullscreen special kick. Hell yeah.
I didn't see anyone point this out (only halfway through) but when attacks are landed, the gems are their Puzzle Fighter pattern. That's why Dan is only getting red when you it hitting.
