- Despite how long it took, this was incredibly fun to make and I'm very happy with the finished video. Hype to move onto the next one!
Ended up playing 24 hours and 14 minutes of the arcade version of MSHvSF and another 20ish hours on the console version to get all of this footage. Additionally there's the SFV footage, lots of research and an incredibly long edit. That's why this video took 2 weeks to make.
Thanks to killbox and robhal for the SFV boss moveset and Shadow mods. Without those I wouldn't have been able to do the Shadow comparisons.
Here's how to select these secret characters...
Armored Spider-Man:
Highlight Ryu, hold down+start for 5 seconds, hit LP+HP
Dark Sakura:
Highlight Hulk, hold right+start for 5 seconds, hit LP+HP
Mech-Zangief:
Highlight Blackheart, hold left+start for 5 seconds, hit LP+HP
Mephisto:
Highlight Omega Red, hold down+start for 5 seconds, hit LP+HP
Shadow:
Highlight Dhalsim, hold up+start for 5 seconds, hit LP+HP
U.S.Agent:
Highlight M.Bison, hold up+start for 5 seconds, hit LP+HP
Apocalypse (Console Only)
Beat the game without using a continue, highlight Akuma hit select 6 times and press any button
Cyber Akuma (Console Only):
Beat the game on Level 8 without using a continue, highlight Akuma, hit select 5 times and press any button

Thanks for sticking around everyone. This was a long one but I'm very happy with the finished product. Special thanks to everyone who left kind words on the last community post, I appreciate it. Sucked not to have a video out last week but this just took way longer than I expected.
By the way, this is what I was doing during the SF6 beta weekend. Learning Mephisto combos and Armored Spider-Man infinites. AND I'M GLAD!!!!! Mwuhahahahahahahahahahahahaaaaa.

Akuma also has a Cyber Akuma/Mech Gouki costume in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.
And Dark Sakura is actually a "joke" character called Sunburned Sakura. The joke is that she got a really bad sunburn one day and it made her harness the Satsui no Hadou...
If they put Dark Sakura in SF6 as an Unplayable Hidden Boss, They should Rename her to "Taiyo".
Funny thing is, Dark Sakura kind of lives on in the mainline Street Fighter canon - Sakura's basically fully aware of Dark Sakura's existence inside her in Alpha 3 (specifically when she beats Akuma, M. Bison, and Ryu), and the Sakura Ganbaru manga (which is basically the prologue to Sakura's Alpha 2 story) has Sakura tapping in and out of it for brief periods in the first volume (sort of like False Super Saiyan in a sense - it's Dark Sakura, but not exactly Dark Sakura).
If SFV Puts the Alternate Secret Characters as Umplayable Boss, I want a New Version of Dark Sakura with a Hole in her Belly, Red Hair, & Demon Horns like an Amalgam of Evil Ryu's SF4 & 5 Apprance.

Some interesting lore things worth mentioning:
Cyber-Akuma is basically a "What If?" where Akuma became one of the Four Horsemen, who are cybernetically enhanced servants of Apocalypse.
US Agent is not Steve Rogers, but a different man named John Walker who was given the title of Captain America before changing over to US Agent, where he sports the black outfit to reflect his antiheroic nature; this one is probably more well-known since this was a core plot thread in "The Falcon and The Winter Soldier."
Mephisto is Blackheart's father, having created him from the evil energy in Christ's Crown, New York, hence why he's essentially a Blackheart pallette.
The USAgent costume used to belong to belong to Steve Rogers when he became disillusioned with America and went by The Captain

You should checkout Z-Gouki in the Cyberbots game. Not cyborg Akuma but full Robot Akuma🤖

Dan is such a useless character...that space could've gone to someone wayyyy cooler!
The hidden characters on the SF side had some silly backgrounds too (with unique winquotes and endings in the JP version, which I’m glad you used for a bit of context).
Dark Sakura parodies Akuma and embraces the Satsui no Hado out of nowhere… just because of a wicked tan job (her JP title is Sunburnt Sakura).
Mech Zangief is apparently the result of our big red comrade converted into a cyborg by Shadaloo and his ending has him go on a journey in an attempt to undo this (which explains why he can transform in-between forms in later games).
The player version of Shadow Charlie has broken free of Bison’s control (and despite fighting for justice he considers his former self dead), but he ran out of power in his ending and wounds up getting recaptured and permanently enslaved.
I asume that Shadow Charlie worked as a base for Nash in SF V

I remember Cyber-Gouki being incredibly hard in the PS1 version, because of the lack of tag team. You could only defeat him with one character in two rounds and he still did a lot of damage like in the arcade, where you could switch beetwen characters.
His CPU depending on your difficulty wasnt always the greatest though, in arcade I beat him with Hulk playing around just using standing heavy punch 😂
MSH V SF is probably my best in the capcom vs series. I know a lot of people talk about MVC2 as being the best but for me, it was this one. It was sooo much better than MVC1 too. I didn't like the PS1 version of MSH V SF though.
As a child I have beaten him only once on the PS1 at the lowest difficult and cheesing with Bison on Easy mode to spam the head press and punch fall
Capcom think they're slick. They took the transformation of the main character from Onimusha 3 and gave it to Akuma.
I could only beat him with Spidey
On Saturn and PS1 you can pick any of the arcade secret characters by simply holding start/select over the appropriate character box then press a punch or kick button.
I owned this game on the Saturn in the 1990s. All this time I never knew that and I didn't know you could be Apocalypse

I too main sakura in one of my low tier teams, she's sneakily good in that one.
Arcade machines here are set to damage level 1. Dark Sakura shines even more with that and can go head to head with the high/top tiers.

I am 90% sure mvc3 did cyber akuma before sfv did, but it's technically the same series as MSHvSF so I guess it doesn't count.

I recently bought my 48th copy of UMvC3 on steam because of the new camera tools that were released. Unfortunately it crashes whenever I go full screen, which is very upsetting. You're absolutely right though! I was careful to say 'he would reappear' rather than 'he would next appear' because I know how knowledgeable my viewers are, haha.

The year was 1997. On my college campus, the internet was not very accessible--in fact, relatively brand new to the campus, available on only like three computers in the library, for a limited time, signed in and out. One day I found a Brazilian website that had the directions to unlock the secret characters in MSH vs. SF. The scarcity of the internet and the Portuguese instructions meant I was one of the few--if any--that could unlock the secret characters (well, that and I kept the knowledge only to myself).
Mecha-Zangief soon became my character of choice. Of course he couldn't block, but he couldn't be knocked down. Other players at school would soon come to fear playing against me, because I was unstoppable, making short work of all opponents who tried their best to stay away from Mecha-Zangief, to no avail. And throwing everything they had against him just built up the super-meter faster. Final Atomic Busters got served up on the regular.
I really loved the announcer announcing the names of the super move finishes in this game. It’s nerdy but it was quite refreshing and I never got over it. I was disappointed that MvC1 opted to put the names up but just say, “Hyper combo finish,” or something. The announcer was buffed in this game from XvSF only to get nerfed later.
Also, the music in the game has some of Capcom’s best tracks EVER.

Mephisto was supposed to appear as one of Blackheart's Hyper Combos too: he was going to grab the enemy, then breathe fire against it for big damage. It went unused, though.

Fun fact: Karin Kanzuki was supposed to be in this game! her sprite in this games data is a headswap of Sakura with slightly different colors.
So this was going to be her gaming debut instead of Alpha 3? Interesting. I wonder why she was cut out.
@@WRILLI4M They probably felt adding her to this game as a headswap character with a slightly different palette would've disappointed readers of the manga Karin came from (I forget the name) expecting her to have some unique moves rather than just Sakura with a different head and palette.

I spent a lot of my teengage years playing the psx ports of these amazing games, and I wish the arcade versions had the super cancelling into supers, as well as special moves into supers. I am sure this would've broken the games even more haha. My friend and I used to lower the damage as much as possible because we knew default damage was too damn high for all the bars you could easily get from regular play.

I was a huge fan of Charlie/Nash back in the Alpha games so naturally Shadow was my favorite secret character. I certainly never managed any combos as impressive as the ones you showed here though. 😆
I liked that they referenced him in the Udon comics too--iirc when he's brainwashed by Shadaloo he fights Bison while using the codename Agent Shadow.
Another awesome vid. I appreciate your series showing off the various hidden characters from Capcom fighters... I always wondered how some of these were actually different. I do love how Capcom reference some of these in later games (Shadow and Mech Zangief especially)
TIL shadow had a 'raging demon' style super.... guess that's what I get for never playing him, haha. as jank as the PSX port of MVSF was it was kinda cool to play as the bosses, cyber akuma was freaking broken af, lol. loved the aerial shining gou shock was always satisfying to pull off! didn't know about the transformations in MVC2, but with the ones from MVC1 for ryu nice to see them continue the tradition!

What a complete video! I didn't expect so many facts about the characters! Thanks a lot for documenting all this, I didn't even know many of these.
The Dark Hadou and Orochi transformations honestly blew anything the MK franchise ever did away. Also a few of these I thought were MUGEN fan fiction, like Mecha Zangief. But it makes sense he is an actual OC because of how well done he is in MUGEN. I remember playing a really well done version of Dark Chun Li. Some of them are well made to the point you can't tell if they're OC or not.
I think it took until this year to realize that cyber Akuma was a weird Riff on Mazinger Z. He's got the Scrander and the rocket punch.
Also Shadow's story is basically Kamen Rider 1.
The wings also resemble Devilman's wings
Mech Gouki/Cyber Akuma is heavily influenced by Mazinger Z, the father of all super-robots from the 70s onwards: on top of being a Majin itself, same wings and signature rocket punch are there too 🤜!
The most underrated entry in the Vs. series. Still a cool game with an awesome soundtrack, and Cyber Akuma is one of the most badass fighting game bosses ever.

I wish more songs from this game were used again. It’s got some of Capcom’s best music ever.
@@LostChildOfTime I also think that some of the versions of and song choices in this game are among the best the characters ever had. Spiderman's theme has this emotional sting to it I can't really describe in words, Ken's theme is wholly unique, and the aforementioned secret character theme are just a few examples off the top of my head.
Awesome video as always. This game to me was always seen as the xvsf without easy mode infinites for everyone, but then you made it look like the same game with this video lol.
Couple things I noticed: Cyber Akuma was an alternate skin for Akuma in MVC3; Shadow is a hidden assist character in MVC1; Mecha Gief is a transformation in MVC1 as well.

I LOVED this game as a child. Cyber Akuma appearing after Apocalypse was amazing when it happened. My favourite character to play as was Omega Red, but I also liked Blackheart and Shuma Gorath. CHAOS DIMENSION
Sakura appears too in Rival Schools, and she also can do the RANGING DEMON move.
The way the announcer screams out the finishers brings back so many memories.

These alternate variations were so cool, it’s a bit of a shame Dark Sakura and Mech Zangief were the only ones that survived to make it in MVC2, how cool would it have been to see Cyber Akuma and Shadow as well since they already had Sprite work done.

Fun fact: Sun-tan Sakura's Shun-goku-satsu is pronounced the same but spelled differently. Gouki is 瞬獄殺 (instant hell death) and hers is 春獄殺 (spring hell death).

Missing a whole "original" character (!), and how you turn mecha zangief red. Probably more, but those were the 2 things that immediately caught my attention.
This is probably the game that I played the most out of the entire VS series. I absolutely loved loved the PSX version, mech zangief was probably my favourite secret character.
Shadow Charlie is pretty interesting as he seems to be the inspiration for him as he appears in street fighter V.
Also the fact that he even appears in street fighter V is really cool.
Nash in 5 is a Literal Corpes ReAnimated.

I liked Mecha Zangief. He couldn't block like at all. But his defense allowed him to power through most attacks, especially if he was attacking at the same time. And he breathes fire.
