US Air Force Security Forces Day in the Life

I got K9 right after tech school. S/F is the worst job in the Air Force. The Asvab requirement ties with becoming a cook. It's where they dump people who flunk other tech schools. As the name implies, security guard. I guarded parked aircraft, empty ammo bunkers, and checked ID cards at gates. The 12-hour shifts paid the same as others working 8 hrs. The 24/7 tours made attending the gym difficult and fitness is required for PT tests. The AF is big on volunteering. This helps get good evaluations to remain in. Imagine volunteering at a church after a midnight, and then have to return to work that evening. The work was painfully boring in outside elements. You're not a cop. Civilian USAF Police have been assuming LE work on bases. They get paid just above minimum wage. This job didn't help me any becoming a city police officer.

How does joining the Security Forces work. You pass the Asvab test and let's say you pass and can choose to go for it. Do you start training for it right away, do you have to get picked for it, is there a waiting period or something? I wouldn't want to be stuck with something else or have to get lucky to get it or wait really long to do it.

It kind of depends on what you’re into. Security forces wasn’t my first job choice but I accepted it when the job opened up for me. So yes if I could do it over I would try and get another job
