Did this active duty for 8 years as a 3P051A deployed once served in two different locations. Working gates was the most fun especially when there were three or four of us on post. We rotated every hour and the rest of the time we would just clown around and order food, made lots of great memories and friendships.
for anyone joining, this is not the experience of most. 9/10 sf members will tell you the gate fucking sucks, which it absolutely does. unless you’re dead set on a law enforcement career in the civilian world, choose another AFSC.
@@japonte173 seriously a garbage take on SF. Gates are just a small part of what we can do. You can also do patrol, pass & ID, work the desk/dispatch, CATM, MWD handler, training sect, RAVEN and so much more. Explain why my sf career led to a successful career with Border Patrol?
@@ricky7973 guessing your ears were just closed when i said UNLESS YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A CAREER IN LAW ENFORCEMENT. your reading comprehension skills are lacking. stop pretending like this career field is a joy to be a part of, most people who come into it do not stay in. literally none of those shreds and opportunities are promised, ESPECIALLY if someone is only staying in for 4 years and doesn’t want to be a cop on the outside. not to the mention the horrible toll this job takes on mental health, i have seen FOUR suicides in this career field in the bases i’ve been to and responded to one of them personally. ALL of them related to the job and the stress it puts on us. the long shitty hours, the toxic leadership, and the lack of respect command has for people seeking help for mental health. i’m glad you personally had a good experience, but do not pretend that your experience applies to the majority of us, because it doesn’t. my take is a good one, if you don’t want to be a cop your whole life, pick a different AFSC. have a good day.
@@ricky7973 does SF get to do any tactical training... CQB? etc?
@@ricky7973 Security Forces has one of the worse retention rates for first term airman. The job is terrible. Youre going to seat on the flight line or gate for the first 3 years. But the AF is still the best branch.
I like the way you talk during your videos man, kinda feels like we’re having a conversation. I like how it doesn’t sound like your following a script. Gonna look now and see if you have more videos about the Air Force in general, but if not hopefully you keep posting

@@thomasryan2679 bruh i ship out on the 17th for this job😂😂😂 Damn

I been watching forums about people doing this job. I’ve always wanted to do it. The monotony of gate guarding and being by myself doesn’t seem that bad to me.
I’ve heard people say it’s a slow climb up. It is what you make of it. They say the worst of it is the toxic leadership but how different is that to any other area?
Is it really truly as bad as people make it out to be? What negatives people seem to have just don’t seem to be that bad to me.
Yea people will complain anywhere they’re at for real. Gotta just take it for what it is. That’s what I’ve learned.
Subscribed. If I were younger definitely would have done this job. I've done civilian Law Enforcement for 26 years now.
Good video bro!
Don’t get out man the civilian side sucks, I have a bachelors degree in criminal justice and I’m 27 about to go into the military either enlisted or Officer because of how expensive everything is getting especially if you planning on starting a family you can’t beat the quality of life for them and benefits from the military. It is not worth it to come back on this side trust me!!
do you have to stand up with the full 12 hours? anyway I can get your personal email? I have a lot of questions. I'm doing SF and ship out April 4th.
I leave March 19th for Air Force security forces, can’t wait 🤞🏻 I do have a ton of questions tho, like what’s the difference between us and security officers, and military police
Are army officers allowed to keep their rank if they transferred to security forces?
Do you get a lunch break and to use the restroom while on the clock?
I’m going officer and trying to decide other options other then pilot to select has full backs. And the only option offered to officers is talking to other officers in that specific job/branch and i much rather hear the soldiers (or airmen in your case) perspective on their job. Thanks for the video.
Absolutely I’m glad I could provide a different perspective
I originally wanted to go in SF enlisted, but almost everyone I talk to tells me to go through college and do ROTC to become an officer first. I’ve heard many people talk down of SF, but the people I’ve talked to that actually do it love it. If I were to be an officer in SF, what exactly would I be doing? I don’t want to be a bad leader
so I don't see a whole lot of officers that are SF, and the one's I have seen are usually working back office and not on regular flights. but it also may depend on how many years you've been in and where you're stationed.
If you work are in security forces, you can work in differents bases? Like Japan, germany, korea, etc.
What does a week schedule usually look like and is a 4 or 6 year contract better for this job for someone who wants to go to school while in.
Usually you’ll work about 4 days out of the week. That can be 8 or 12 hour shifts. Just depends where you’re stationed at. And the contract doesn’t matter too much when it comes to that reasoning. If you just want to give yourself more time to finish school while you’re in the military, then doing 6 would be good for that though.
How is the advancement in sf. Planning to go back to military. Did 5 years in navy got out as an E3 honorable discharge because of politics. I was researching and it looks like Air Force rank up faster than sailor politics lol.

A lot. The career field has a lot of different jobs within it. Look into Raven, TRF, Contingency Response Group, Base Defense Group, and DAGRE. That’s not all, just some of the cooler options.
Im headed to basic on april 18nt, im going for security forces too. Question? How often do we get deployed like is it once per year or does it depend?
It's the worst job in the Air Force. You'll be a security guard.
It really just depends on what base you’re at but you will at least once go on deployment

It doesn't.

There are opportunities to do those. Depending on what base you’re at can determine the likelihood of if you get the opportunity I believe. I’m not too educated on that tbh
I am going security forces, trying to do Raven and Dagre, signed for 6, and want to hopefully transition to CCT at the end of my contract.
Awful idea, sorry!
@thomasryan2679 It's only an awful career if you are a shitbag airman. There are so many opportunities, plus I don't have the stale humor the office jockeys have. You don't only do gate duty. @@FlintGlint what’s up! So when I said that, for me personally I’d just rather do the 4 years rather than 6 years with this specific job because I’m not a huge fan of it lol. @@thomasryan2679 perhaps that is why nothing has happened in 60 years 🤔
It's mostly security guard work. Real cops don't check ID cards at gates or guard parked aircraft.
I'm saddened seeing young and motivated people leaning towards this job. With all my respect to those serving, Security Guard Forces is the worst job in the Air Force. I can say this because I got K9 right after tech school and served 4 years. I spent most of my time walking along perimeter fences at night in arctic-cold weather. That, or guarding parked aircraft. This is while waiting for the truck to come out with a box lunch. The Asvab score needed ties with becoming a cook. We worked 12-hour tours while everyone else worked 8's. Shift work and irregular hours made it difficult to attend college or use the gym to prepare for PT tests. Checking ID cards at gates doesn't relate to police work or law enforcement. It never helped me become a city police officer. The Air Force is big on volunteering. This helps get good evaluations for promotion. Imagine volunteering at a church after working a midnight, only knowing you have to go back in again that night for another midnight. How many S/Fs ever made an arrest? I never made one or seen one during my enlistment. I was a road guard and painfully bored.
I mean but that’s what you signed up for, did you not know it was going to be like that? Everyone knows in SF all you do is guard post😅
@@david-vf5di I thought security forces may help me become a municipal cop. It didn't help at all. OSI would help. Not guard work with a dog. The only time I saw a supervisor was when one would sneak out and try to catch someone sleeping. Sometimes we wrote fellow airmen and their family cheesy tickets. Then we wondered why others hated us. I was happier leaving the USAF than to join.
Do you need a license or will they help you get one in the military for this position
You need a driver's license or take driving lessons on your own like I did. Then test to get your license.
