    Had no clue you were an A1C after watching your alternative PT test video. Nothing against that, but you carry yourself like someone who has been in at least 2+ years. Keep that same motivation when ranking up, even when the negative times come up. Trust me, they will eventually. We need more folks like you with high morale and motivation. Keep grinding champ.

    When I was in the USAF (76-80) there was not much emphasis on PT. We only had to qualify with a timed run once per year. The modern military seems to be more of a monastic life. We could purchase and consume alcohol on base at 18, smoking was not discourage, and homosexuality was a court-martial and dischargeable offence. Now there is no drinking under 21, smoking is virtually forbidden, and homosexuality is permitted. Strange times.

    First off thank you for your service 🇺🇸On a scale to 1-10 how would u recommend joining the AirForce for anybody ? because I really want to pursue it after college but I have people in my ear telling me not to join and it’s no place for a black man and it’s all lies when they tell u the benefits but I promise I do my best to block the naysayers out.

    • @thelifewithkev
      @thelifewithkev  2 года назад +10

      Hey, man. Thanks for your support💪🏽. For me, I like what I do, and the adventure brings, and the people I’ve met have made the Air Force a great experience for me.
      For you, the benefits are definitely there. Especially if you use your degree to commission as an officer. The technical and leadership skills you gain are definitely up there.
      Will you be a minority? The AF is about 15% black. The Army is about 29% for comparison. I used to ask myself the same question before I came in: “Does a black man belong in the military?” I see it like this: My race is who I am, you see it as soon as I walk through the door. You will remember me because I carry myself with confidence and will always look to excel at whatever I’m doing. I know there’s another kid looking to follow whatever path I carve. I want them to know to know that they belong wherever they know they can succeed. Yes, this country hasn’t had the best history with our people, including veterans of color, but the longer I’ve been in and met different people, the more I’ve realized that were all on the same team. Yes, the military is run by a government that once considered us less than a person, but this is still my country too. My people, my family back home, just like everyone else’s family, calls this country home. Though I pray for peace, I will always be willing to do my part to keep my family, and everyone else’s around me, safe. Also, now that I’m here, I figure at some point I can see firsthand where these issues come from, and will find the opportunity to improve them. I can never complain about a situation if I’m not looking for the solution.
      I hope this answers your question and helps with your decision. If your thinking about it, I’d say keep doing your research, if you keep finding things thsy interest you, give it a chance. I think you’ll be surprised when you see how many different opportunities it can really bring. I talk about all of this in my first video: “Why I Joined the Military in 2021”. If you check it out, let me know that you think. Take care bro.

    thanks for the video kev! good stuff. Here's a question for you, does life in the air force feel lonely?

    • @thelifewithkev
      @thelifewithkev  2 года назад +6

      Hey man, thanks for watching! To answer your question, yes there are times when the Air Force/military life feels lonely. You leave your home town family and friends, and you and the friends you make when you first get in often go your separate ways because of different assignments. It can be tiring, always having to fork new friends, and it can be hard to tell who is temporary and in your life to stay.
      For this, I would say don’t give up on forming those relationships. Find those people that you connect with, and enjoy all of your time together, no matter how short or long you know it will be. You may end up living in different places, but those friendships will always last if they’re real. Some of my best buddies live on the other side of the planet.
      For everyday life, keep putting yourself out there. Get involved, put yourself in places to meet new people, whether it’s a class, a trip, or just starting a conversation in your shop. You never who you will meet, and what opportunities can come from it. Hope this helps.

    picking up this job for the air guard, so from what i’ve read, sec + is required now? and is there anything i can do to prepare for tech school

    • @thelifewithkev
      @thelifewithkev  2 года назад +1

      Yes, Sec+ is required for all cyber fields now, including RF. I’m still pretty sure it’s not a part of our tech school yet. Since it’s still a pretty new requirement, all of us having been getting it once we got to our duty station.
      For preparing for tech school, I would say just go in ready to learn. The information isn’t too hard, but if you master it, you’ll set yourself ahead and it’ll help you at your first base, just from remembering radio/satcom theory. For Preparing for Sec +, check out my “How I Passed Sec+” video👇🏽.
      Get involved in the squadron, it’s a great way to get leadership experiment and meet ew people. Get out and enjoy the area too, Keesler I’m a nice beach town, a lot of great spots to check out.

    hey good video, question though: i saw you said in another comment that RF started requiring sec+ at the end of last year but you’re studying for it now outside of tech school, do you have to get it bc you’re in an RF workplace and is it something that’s required of all RF across the AF? I’m also RF but I’ve been told nothing about getting sec+ but i also happen to not be assigned to actual RF worktivities at my home base. just wondering

    • @thelifewithkev
      @thelifewithkev  3 года назад +1

      Yes, all RF should be required to get sec+ now. I don’t know if they do now, but we didn’t get it in tech school when I went through, it was a new change. It’s usually up to your unit to put you in a course to test now. If your able to ask your leadership, maybe they’ve already started to or can put you in a course.

    I was in from 94 to 2003 and it was all self PT or you just didn't do PT. And there was no PT test, some bases you road a stationary bike and some you never had a pt test at all.

      Hey, thanks for watching! Yes, it depends on your base and the mission, but it is common for RF to climb radio/antenna towers. My shop should actually be going for our climbing training pretty soon. It’s usually voluntary to go up for it.

    • @thelifewithkev
      @thelifewithkev  2 года назад

      Yes, tower climbing is a part of RF, my shop is actually getting certified againin a few months. It isn’t at every base though, if you were base Comm, you are more likely to be climbing towers that expeditionary units.
      You can cross train into CCT or any other job, but not immediately after BMT. The Air Force has invested money in you once you have accepted a job, so there is a 3 year time in service requirement to cross train. For special warfare, including CCT, the time requirement is 2 years in the Air Force. You would just have to decide if you would like to go straight into CCT, or wait a couple years after being in the AF.
