You have to realize when Elvis went on TV, the country practically shut down. More than 80% of the TV's in America were turned onto Elvis when he was on TV in the 50's. Every time he was on TV, it set ratings records. His 1973 Aloha From Hawaii Special was the first satellite concert and watched by over one billion people.

Let's see... was EP a sex symbol? You bet he was. He was gorgeous, talented, smooth like velvet, charismatic, sweet, a voice like no other. He could sing heavenly love songs, or growling fierce rock, blues, gospel, etc. He is in 23+ Halls of Fame. He was an enigma to many as he was very masculine, but also in touch with his feminine side. He loved women and we all loved him right back. He was generous, humble, polite and like a prince from another planet. Love your reactions!! ❤️❤️❤️

Welcome To Elvis World, Enjoying Your Reactions !!
Elvis was born into Poverty on January 8, 1935 he was 1/2 of Identical Twins, his Brother Died at Birth. His Family lived East Tupelo Mississippi, just across from Shakerag, one of the poorest Ghetto's in America, during the time of Segragation and the Great Depression. They were one of only 4 White Families in a Predominatly Black Community, so growing up, many of his friends were black. There were times when his family had to depend on the kindness of their black neighbors just for enough food to eat. Elvis was drawn to the Gritty Blues of Shakerag, He also enjoyed Country Music and Sang Gospel in both Black and White Church's but his favorite Music was what he called Colored Spirituals, that was the music of his soul.
In 1948 when Elvis was 13 his Family moved to the Projects of Memphis Tennessee where he Discovered Beale Street, and the Memphis Sound and often Jammed with his Contemporaries, Greats like BB King, Fats Domino, Little Richard, Big Mama Thorton, James Brown and Jackie Wilson just to name a few. So Elvis was different, he had a different sound and a different way of thinking than most other Whites in the South at that time, he never saw Color.
Elvis had a Dream that Someday he could lift his Parents out of Poverty by Singing. He could never have imagined where that Dream would lead.
Elvis Presley's first hit Regionally was on July 19,1954 with the release of "That's Allright" at the age of 19.
He became a National and International Super Star Phenominon in 1956 (The First Ever) with the release of Heartbreak Hotel. Not only did Elvis's Singing Career take off, he also Stared 4 Motion Pictures before being Drafted into the Army from 1958 - 1960. When he returned from his two year Tour of Duty in Germany (and while Completing his 2 year Reserve Duty after returning home 1960 - 1962), he Focused on his Movie Career, Starring in a Total of 31 Motion Pictures (many of which were Light hearted musical comedies that Teens Loved, but not all, some had more serious subject matter) and 2 Concert Documentary Films, until 1968 when he Re Launched his Music Career with the "68 Comeback Special" and Returning to Sold Out Live Stage Audience's in Vegas and Concert Tours Across the Country of which the Crowing Jewel was the Aloha from Honolulu Hawaii Concert in 1973 which was Broadcast Live Via Satellite (First Of It's Kind) to 40 Countries around the World 🌎 and was Viewed by 1.5 BILLION People. He Continued Recording and Touring until his Untimely Passing from a Heartattack at the age of only 42 in 1977.
    ELVIS WAS INDUCTED INTO THE:
    R&R Hall Of Fame
    R&B Hall Of Fame
    Rock-a-Billy Hall Of Fame
    Country Hall Of Fame
    Gospel Hall Of Fame
    Pop Hall of Fame
    AND MANY OTHER'S
He Received 4 Grammy's 3 for Gospel and 1 Honoring His Lifetime Achievement and Scores of Gold and Platinum Records that Line the Walls of Graceland, his Memphis Home. Graceland where Elvis is Burried, is the 2nd most visited home in America after the Whitehouse.
ELVIS is Still To This Day, the Top Selling SOLO Artist of All Time According to the Guinness Book of World Records 🌎 with 1.5 Billion Records (Vinal, 8 Trac, Cassette, CD & Digital etc.) Sold World Wide 🌎
ALL...Musicians are inspired by those that went before them but then they borrow from what they grew up with, what they have heard, make it their own, build on it, add their own unique style & influences to it. That's what music and dance has always been, an eclectic melting pot of rythems and cultures, ever changing, ever evolving. Most of All, Music is the Great Unifier, It's meant to be Shared. So by Elvis Singing the music of his soul, the Music he grew up with and Loved and Sharing it with (what they would have called at that time) Main Stream Audiances, he broke down the cultural, political and racial barriers and by the mid 1960's Motown was wildly popular among teenagers of all races and cultures and the country began to turned a corner. Most Youth of that time were very much for the Civil Rights Movement.

Soooo you're going down the Elvis Rabbit Hole - Love it! When Elvis hit the scene in the 50s there was nobody else like him. The popular entertainers back then were crooners, like Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby. Elvis showed up right when televisions were popping up in people's homes. He was the complete package - he had the talent, the looks, the charisma, the charm, the manners... there was nobody else on earth who could compare to him then, and even now. My mom talks about seeing him on the Ed Sullivan Show and what a huge deal it was when he was going to make an appearance on tv. Because of the way he moved tv shows started showing him only from the waist up because so many people back then complained that he was being "lewd".
Elvis is known as the King of Rock & Roll for a reason. What he did for music and the impact he created that is still felt today is undeniable. Many people rejected him in the 50s because they said he was copying from black artists, and white people didn't want any "music mixing". Truth is, he was a good friend to many black artist and did copy their style and songs. Elvis has been copied as well. Watch his dance moves in the video for Jailhouse Rock and then watch a Michael Jackson video. Michael was a huge Elvis fan (His daughter, Lisa Marie, was even married briefly to Michael Jackson) and got some of his signature moves from Elvis.
You should watch the Elvis movie released in 2022. It's a great movie and does a good job showing his life, from how he got started to how it all ended.
I was 8 years old in August of 1977 when Elvis died. It was one of those moments where you remember where you were when you heard the news. My parents had tickets to see him at what would have been his next concert. Instead of returning their tickets for a refund they opted to keep them & gave one to me. I have it on my dresser to this day. The cost of the ticket was $7.50!! Something interesting about when he died is women would go to "crying parties" over him. Everyone would bring a dish & they'd talk about Elvis, eat and cry. My best friend's mom went to one just about every weekend.
If you want to witness the power Elvis had over women in his audiences, watch the video Love Me Tender from Las Vegas - ruclips.net/video/BeTurYZuY4A/видео.html
And you have to watch one of his greatest Vegas performances of Suspicious Minds - ruclips.net/video/T1g5tVGZhfk/видео.html

It was the MOVEMENT that was ticking everyone off. Musicians STOOD AT THE MIC AND SANG. Period. Elvis was CLEARLY expressing sexual energy and that was BEYOND TABOO back then. Older people LOST THEIR MINDS and protested restaurants and clubs that would play his music ... and younger people LOST THEIR MINDS because they LOVED what they saw and felt :) It was THE VIBE too.. Elvis was a VIBE, the world's 1st teen sex symbol anywhere NEAR that level. Even MJ who garnered a LOT of girl screams couldnt get CLOSE to the HEAT that Elvis got. Girls absolutely lost their G'Dang minds!!!! ;)

Elvis was a very respectful and humble guy. He rocketed to fame in the space of weeks after the release of his first record” That’s alright Mama” when he was only 18. He was from a very poor background having grown up in a ghetto in Tupelo, he always said he could never earn enough money to forget what it was like to be dirt poor! He did have many girlfriends, served 2 years in the US Army and did marry in 1967. Love your reaction. More Elvis please👌💕🕺

See, TV was brand new in the 1950s. It was the next big thing. It felt like a whole movie theater in their home. Previously radio was the main method of entertainment. Old people had no idea what to do with TV but YOUNG PEOPLE ... they LOVED IT. And Elvis came out right smack in the middle of the TV boom AT THE SAME TIME as the youth revolution against old people. So the nation was pitting itself against each other. YOUNGvsOLD, BLACKvsWHITE, MENvsWOMAN, NORTHvsSOUTH... etc. and young people were kinda just trying to FIND A NEW WAY. Elvis comes onto the scene when YOUNG PEOPLE were looking for a new sound, and he captured EVERYONE of the YOUNG PEOPLE in those groups. The older people were VERY UPSET with Elvis. Wanted him arrested in some places and he was threatened with his life until the day he died. So Elvis was a cultural revolution that transcended both the youth movement AND the civil rights movement.
Elvis was merging music genres and styles and cultures to bring everyone together. He may not of got EVERYONE, but he sure as hell got his point across and became the greatest-selling music artist in recorded history based on his immense talent and persona, a that's why he is STILL a legend.

The performance of Hound Dog that shocked the world was on June 5, 1956 before Ed Sullivan. This was the first time we ever saw a white man sing and move to the music. In those day everyone just swung their arm for sawed their body, but they didn’t move their feet or hips. Elvis also sung with such passion and energy. He really wasn’t a trained dancer per say he just moved his body to the music. That was unheard of then.

Elvis was actually only filmed from the wsist down after his first few appearances on tv. he was also ordered by a judge not to move in a sexual way or be put in jail…. there s si much to find out about Elvis. He definetely was charismatic and very good looking. Everyone who knew him personally said that he was even better looking than on all the fotographs and videos. i also love Elvis for bring a trendsetter, the first megastar, first Influencer and style icon. wearing pink clothes and mascara in the 50 s and dxing his hair black( initially with shoepolish cause he grew up very very poor)

Now that you have seen this from late in 1956 when he was 21 as you correctly guessed, check out his performance earlier that year and I want to say it's in June, from the Milton Berle variety show, not quite on the same level as Ed Sullivan but Milton burrow was an older comedian and he loved Elvis Presley along with all the younger people. And so Elvis was on his show and did the same song but surprising the band and the host and the producers and everything, it was just supposed to be a short excerpt, and when hound dog came to an end, Elvis kept it going but it half Tempo. So it kind of turned into a burlesque.
It's set off this racist and religious firestorm and Frank Sinatra disapproved of it and Ed Sullivan said he would never have something as vulgar as that on one of his shows and yet fast forward several months and they both were doing that, it's Sullivan first and then Frank Sinatra couple years later after Elvis got out of the army.

This performance was the Ed Sullivan show from 56 and this was a great and mandatory reaction. But your title says 3 song medley including Heartbreak Hotel and Hound Dog. That performance comes from his Comeback Special from 68 where he sings some classic songs dressed in black leather; that too is mandatory.

Plus his hairstyle was always perfect and extravagant for the time. And also his clothes were also very eccentric for the time. So - clothes, hairstyle, movements at the microphone and especially his voice and since he was young he only listened to Rhythm and Blues music - all this made him the King of Rock and Roll

Yea and even here elvis was keeping it tame for the ed sullivan show, in live shows his dancing had a lot more hip movement so much to the point the conservative radio stations were breaking rock and roll records and many stopped playing rock and roll records due to public outcry from conservative groups churches etc. because no one had ever seen anyone perform like he did - its been said that elvis induction into the army was to get him out of public view, but thats never been proven.

Yes Elvis got married & had a beautiful little girl who he adored. Sadly, his marriage ended in divorce. Elvis was 21 here, so you are totally correct. He was actually a deeply spiritual young man, who had been raised in the Southern Babtist Church, & his most favourite style of singing was Gospel. The three Grammy Awards Elvis won, were for his three Gospel Albums. He loved his mother very much, & when he lost her when she was 46 & he was 22, he never got over it. He was close to his father, but his bond with his mother had been very close.

"A little bit like a sex symbol"???
He started the freaking sexual revolution.
He freed young people. Finally, they had something of their own.
All singers before him stood on stage and in front of the camera like sticks.
Young people had no youtube, most of them didn`t even have a record player.
All they had was the radio. They had to wait for the songs to be played on the radio. And then imagine sitting in the audience for the first time and seeing him live... Of course, they went nuts.

Elvis & Marilyn Monroe set the standard for sex symbols. I consider them THE sex symbols. I can't even think of other sex symbols that are in the same category.

You would have to understand and go back and see some some of his concerts prior to his being drafted in the Army. This was tame. They used to only film him from the waist up.

Elvis was definitely a sex symbol throughout his career. During his early days, there are many stories, even before he became nationally famous, about how busy the back seat of their Cadillac was. In this early Sullivan video you shared, I feel he is still trying figure out his fame. He seems pretty bemused with the crowd’s reaction. Thank you for sharing!

No not a bit of a sex symbol but the first great symbol period!
The crowd went wild every time because no one had ever heard or seen anything or anyone like him before. He was multi-talented and free-spirited and free 🔥
Elvis married once to Pricilla and they had a daughter named Lisa Marie who was married to Michael Jackson The King of pop. She was a singer in her 50’s and just recently passed away. She made a music video with Michael when they were married.

Elvis was, and still is, the ultimate sex symbol. As you said, the women wanted him and the men wanted to be him.
Back then all young adults were expected to be like their parents. They had to dress the same as their parents and like the same music. They didn't have any way of expressing themselves. Then Elvis came along and they went wild for him. He was seen as the rebel that they wanted to be. Their parents hated him, which just made him even more attractive as he was then 'forbidden fruit'.
Autotune didn't exist in Elvis' time. So, everything you hear from Elvis, be it on a recording or live on stage, was just pure talent and his amazing voice. He had an impressive range to his voice as well.
Thank you for another great reaction. Keep them coming 😊

Yes, he married Pricilla in the late 60's. They had their daughter, Lisa Marie, 9 months later. Priscilla is still alive, but Lisa Marie passed away in February of this year.

My Dad told me it was impossible to hear any Elvis movie because the girls screamed the whole movie! Lol. So..Yes I would say he was a huge sex symbol!!! Elvis was the first artist to do movements like that while performing! It was considered vulgar & obscene by the older people. Radio stations refused to play his records.... Committees were formed in protest of this vulgar...animalistic music! Lol.
