My sister is in love with this movie as she's a big Elvis fan. It's crazy how Austin Butler prepared for this role. He put his entire heart and soul to play the king of rock n' roll and he did it extraordinary well. Hell, he even ended up in the hospital the day after filming ended. Elvis is my third favorite movie of the year, behind Everything Everywhere All at Once and Top Gun: Maverick.
I'm not even a big Elvis fan and yet, this movie is dazzlingly epic and tragically heartbreaking, and like the King himself, completely unforgettable. The ending of it just broke me. Unlike Elton John, who cleaned up and made an uplifting musical comeback at the end of Rocketman, Elvis Presley just wasn't able to get out from under that greedy, manipulative, and despicable Colonel, and as in real life, died long before he should have in 1977. Elvis has left the building.
But still lives, as this movie is the best selling movie outside of franchises this year. Also he still sells millions of albums every year. In the UK he is one of the best selling artists between 2010 and 2020 !
Most of his career, Tom plays sympathetic characters. Have you seen Road to Perdition? He literally plays a mob enforcer and you still root for him. However, in this movie, he actually did what is arguably the rarest thing he's ever done in his career: he convinces the audience to hate his character. That's kind of impressive. Proof that Tom is good not only at playing nice guys.
People hate the idea of Hanks in this role and I completely loved it. Why? Because Hanks is always a good guy and is likeable. You trust him. So when you see him play Parker; there's a part of you who WANTS to trust him and you can see why Elvis does. He never tells Elvis was to do (at least until the end with the debt). He manipulates Elvis to feel like HE is coming up with these ideas. The way the Vegas conversation goes blows my mind and I don't think those scenes would be completely successful with someone other than Hanks. It was a perfect portrayal.
One of my favourite movies of all. Baz Lurhman’s eye for directing is nothing short of exquisite. Austin did a phenomenal job too. Such a beautiful tribute to Elvis.

Look at the interviews of Austin Butler with Lisa Marie and what Priscilla said. The first time Butler saw the entire movie was a Cannes and there was a 12 minute standing ovation.
That scene was just amazing. The way they do the live and camera footage. How he completely looses himself. The stuff he does with Nipper and grabbing the girl's faces. It's just so insane. I love every second of it.
From the beginning of the film to the ballpark concert is Austin Butler singing but from the 68 comeback special to the end of the film is the real Elvis singing
This movie is so amazing...I loved it. My mom and I are huge Elvis fans. Most of what is in this movie is true, and this was approved by Pricilla, Lisa Marie, and his granddaughter
Great film, the full Baz cut is 4h11m long. Austin had 3 months of preparation to walk, talk, sing and dance like Elvis. So most of the in film "live performances" were sang by Austin with real musicians that we trained with during pre-production. This is an Oscar worthy film and might be a big winner due to the possible of many nominations like best actor, best supporting actor, best production designer, costume designer, best film, best director and film of the year. It's a well received film, like Bohemian Rhapsody..., it's not a movie, it's an experience and educate this youth of our decades of pop culture but our music history. I was a year old when Elvis passed away, my late mother (RIP) was a long time fan and she would have loved this movie.

I love this reaction so much had me laughing Tom Hanks and Austin Butler are phenomenal actors 😂🥰❤️ I said the exact same thing is that Dacre Montgomery I didn't recognize him either his that good. Fun fact: Thomas Andrew Parker, commonly known as Colonel Parker, was a Dutch-born musical entrepreneur, best known for being Elvis Presley's manager. Born in the Netherlands, Parker emigrated illegally to the United States at the age of 20. He changed his name and claimed to have been born in the United States. This whole cast is incredible I totally forgot most of them were just actors and thought they were the actual people it's that good
I did not realize Elvis…one of the biggest stars in the 20th century….cultural ICON…never toured outside the states! 🤯 AND only went aboard while serving in the military.
Elvis didn't tour outside of the USA, because "Col" Tom Parker was actually an illegal immigrant and didn't own a passport. He fled his home country, after killing a woman in a bungled robbery and changed his identity to avoid capture. Fact.
Fun Fact: Elvis was a blonde and dyed his hair to be dark brown/black. The first time he dyed his hair (when he was a teen), he used shoe polish. There's a picture of teen Elvis in Graceland with Blonde hair
I remember i watched documentary about last Elvis day and his death and all were so surprised in autopsy when found out that he had so many light hair, they thought that it's some anomaly because of his health condition, but they didn't understood, that it's his natural hair 🤭
Anyone else feel like the relationship between The Colonel and Elvis has the same energy as the relationship between Palpatine and Anakin (especially in Revenge of the Sith)?
Austin has a new middle name now, it's Oscar coz that's what he'll win for this performance as he nailed EP from his voice to his moves & he worked damned hard. It was a colossal movie from start to finish & I saw it 5 times, now I have the DVD. Tom Hanks was also good as the colonel with those sly looks & that great ageing makeup. Baz has outdone himself with this movie & will win & Austin will too.
I was so upset when Austin didn't win the Oscar. They didn't really acknowledge Baz Luhrmann much either. Major feat of directing to pull this movie together And I think he did some or all of the editing.
Saw this in theaters with my mom and nana we were basically having a concert in the theater singing every song thankfully there were not many people in the theater and they were doing the same thing
amazing movie and it shoked me so hard. I didn't know much about Elvis and after movie i wanted to know more, mooooore. I watched movie 3 times. I'm glad that more young people will discover him. I understand that movie is sugarcoated, but it's kinda monument for this artist, to celebrate his awesomeness.
I litteraly just watched it for the first time now on DVD,and I'm speechless, I'm just,I'm....just,I'm, I'm too sad to sleep and idk why🥺 with colonel Tom Parker,I'll never look and listen at elvis the same again
I heard that for the most part it is Austin Butler singing but during some of the parts Austin had a hard time singing they added the actual Elvis Presley.

I would like to give mention to Austin Butler. I have been a fan since I first saw him in 2005-06. He has improved so much and gave this his all. Its incredible to see him go from an extra in the back on a kids show to play THE Elvis. I give him major props to even sacrificing his own identity to perform Elvis with the upmost respect, its incredible. I hope he earns an oscar nomination and even a win. I also want to give props to Tom Hanks because he is known as an “American treasure”. But to act a conman and make me actually hate him then I believe Tom did a great job. It shows he can play a hero but also a bad man.
Its important to remember that Elvis had a spending problem. No one could keep him from spending. He was very generous. Btw, Elvis did not have an alcohol problem. He saw what it did to his mother.
My Favourite Biopic Of All Time And One Of My Favourite Films🙌🏻🔥 Younger Elvis was sung by Austin Older Elvis was a mix of Austin and The King Of Rock🎶 Austin for the Oscar🏆
I know this might seem silly, but when I got home after the movie and was hitting up my friend to tell em how much I enjoyed it, said friend asked me, "well how was Tom Hanks' southern accent?" To which I replied, in my head, "... when was Tom Hanks in that movie?" I think this was really such a spectacular role for Hanks, I genuinely couldn't see Tom Hanks at all in the Colonel character, to the point that I had to google the cast to be sure my friend wasn't just crazy!
It's amazing. my 50 year old cousin did the same. We went to see the movie (it was my 2nd time) and when the credits rolled and Hank's name showed up, he almost shouted 'that was Tom Hanks!?' It was pretty funny. I don't see how people didn't see Tom Hanks in it but if you're not expecting it, and he did such a good job I can understanding. But I wouldn't have believe people saying that until my cousin did it, lol
Actual fact: Elvis actually Hated alcohol and all the girlfriends he was with all say the same thing about him that they were treated like royalty, yes he would eventually get bored from each and every single one, but they never said a bad word about him but only words of praise and kindness . You still have a lot to learn about EP 😁
Yes...absolutely. People are confused. It was Elvis from the 68 Special and afterward. By a "mix".. it means there are a few exceptions, for example: If I Can Dream with Elvis in white suit, it is Elvis'.... whereas when Austin is laying down singing a few lines of that song, it is Austin. And it is 100% Elvis in Vegas, and Unchained Melody at the end. Best~ ;)
You are adorable! You got me crying from laughing so much at your comments. Definitely wanna see you more! Thanks, I needed this! For the record, that really was Austin singing Unchained Melody (that is the audition song he sent to Baz), even though the news and interview footage was the real Elvis. You couldn't tell the difference, huh?
I know the movie was nominated for Film Editing at the AACTA Awards (Australia's version of the Oscars)...along with 14 other nominations. Yes, 15 nominations...That has to be a record.
I saw the movie 13 times in the theater. Never happened to me before as long I can remember. I just bought the DVD and the soundtrack. Absolutely love it! And love Baz movies, specially Moulin Rouge. And this movie Elvis is one if his masterpiece. Oscars for Austin and the movie. His almost three years of preparation for the movie really paid off. The Colonel only saw Elvis as a negotiation 🥹😔😡. Love every detail of your review. 😉.
My granddaughters saw this movie three times in the theater. Tom Hanks looks like Colonel Tom Parker in the his movie and he was from The Netherlands. This movie seems so real to me. I’m 68 years old and watched as Elvis took on society with his music but never appreciated the depth of control Parker had over his life. So sad. I loved this movie!!😊
You what's crazy because that's real tears of Austin butler about the mom dying because I don't know if you know this or not in real life elvis and Austin butler have in common they both lost their mom when they was 23 years old
I had never heard of Austin Butler before seeing this movie. As a lifelong Elvis fan, I can say he nailed it as Elvis. I've never seen in all the movies about Elvis anyone do the Elvis moves so well including the up on his toes as Austin. Watching this movie in the theater I totally lost the thought it was Austin Butler, instead seeing only Elvis after a short time. I thought Rami Malek deserved an Oscar for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury and now I strongly feel Austin Butler definitely deserves the Oscar for his portrayal of Elvis because he truly transformed into Elvis. And yes, 'Col Tom Parker' (wasn't any of those titles/names) was a true greedy POS. This is most definitely my favorite Elvis movie of all time due to the hard prep work of Austin Butler.
They didn't spend much time showing Elvis and Priscilla's relationship probably cause she was 14 and he was 24 when they met 😬. I know Elvis means a lot to many people but the man was kind of a creep. I still found the film entertaining and loved Austin Butler's performance though
Yes Austin Butler sang some. But you can tell the difference when it's Elvis singing. That special magic tone comes to life with Elvis. Absolutely NO Elvis impersonator can capture this.

The most interesting and entertaining review of the movie I’ve seen. I love this movie. I know some people feel that important items were left out but he had to limit the length AND the focus was on the relationship between EP and no colonel, no Tom, no Parker. It was exceptional acting.
When you were saying that Jimmy was trying to match his hair like Elvis's, teenage boys in the UK were doing the same thing but it was called "teddy boys". It was like being a greaser or fans of Elvis but mocking the Edwardian style. If you look at The Beatles in their early years, their hair was pretty much more like Elvis's. John Lennon even said: '"Before there was Elvis, there was nothing."'.
There are minor exceptions... such as If I Can Dream with Elvis in white suit, it is Elvis'.... whereas when Austin is laying down singing a few lines of that song, it is Austin. And it is 100% Elvis in Vegas, and Unchained Melody at the end.
15:43 I think that was supposed to be Revered W. Herbert Brewster. Elvis used to sing with the choir in his church when his family moved to the government housing project in Memphis. Saw a snippet of him being interviewed about the teenage Elvis, said his voice 'only needed tuning' and that 'he was a bundle of energy set to music'. The reverend wrote several songs as well, one of which I'm sure was 'Old Landmark' that we see/hear James Brown performing in the first Blues Brothers movie (annoyingly is not in the soundtrack but it's a performance you have to watch rather than listen to).
My sister is in love with this movie as she's a big Elvis fan. It's crazy how Austin Butler prepared for this role. Elvis was literally The Colonel’s meal ticket. Plus The Colonel didn’t even have a freakin passport.
When Austin Butler sang Trouble *wiggling his pinky* I was feeling the holy spirit 😍🥵😍
ME. YES.
I just love that they joked about Forrest meeting Elvis in Forrest Gump and then made an Elvis movie with Tom Hanks in it.
Too good to miss
Oh god. 4 hours may be over my limit
@@MoviesinDepth in Baz's full cut, we get to see Elvis's affair with Ann Margaret and some extended scenes and deleted scenes.
@@TheRequiemOfficialReal wow! I didn't know that! It will even be more amazing! I really want to see th e 4 hour VERSION! 🥰please BAZ!
@@TheRequiemOfficialReal r u in Australia!? We're u lucky enough to be apart of this amazing movie!??
I totally agree with you! Oscar's GALLORE! So far I have loved this movie 10 times on the big screen CINEMA!
Austin had three years to start his research and started his practice at least eighteen months before production due to covid.
The mom didn’t only worry herself to death. She drank herself to death worrying about Elvis.
YAS 😆😆😆! I LOVE this movie and I worship the king. I listen to his songs on a daily basis, watched his movies, own 3 Elvis t-shirts, 2 cups/mugs and one of his jumpsuits for Halloween.
YES
Such a good movie with an incredible performance from Austin!❤
I love this reaction so much had me laughing Tom Hanks and Austin Butler are phenomenal actors 😂🥰❤️ I said the exact same thing is that Dacre Montgomery I didn't recognize him either his that good. Fun fact: Thomas Andrew Parker, commonly known as Colonel Parker, was a Dutch-born musical entrepreneur, best known for being Elvis Presley's manager. Born in the Netherlands, Parker emigrated illegally to the United States at the age of 20. He changed his name and claimed to have been born in the United States. This whole cast is incredible I totally forgot most of them were just actors and thought they were the actual people it's that good
His ENTIRE inspiration for music didn’t come from just black soul….. it came from r&b, bluegrass, country, gospel and big band…
Which was all founded by black people.
Important point to be made.
ITS THAT GUY FROM SHARPAYS FABULOUS ADVENTURE!!!!!!
YES
That's the only movie i saw him in and if you told me then he would play Elvis, I wouldn't have believed you. He was so amazing.
I did not realize Elvis…one of the biggest stars in the 20th century….cultural ICON…never toured outside the states! 🤯 AND only went aboard while serving in the military.
That part of the film was shocking. I couldn’t believe he hadn’t done a world tour.
Elvis didn't tour outside of the USA, because "Col" Tom Parker was actually an illegal immigrant and didn't own a passport. He fled his home country, after killing a woman
in a bungled robbery and changed his identity to avoid capture. Fact.
No matter how many times I watch this, I always forget that Billy’s in this.
I met Shirley King -BB King daughter at the Kennedy Center when I volunteer. Amazing singer.
Fun Fact: Elvis was a blonde and dyed his hair to be dark brown/black. The first time he dyed his hair (when he was a teen), he used shoe polish. There's a picture of teen Elvis in Graceland with Blonde hair
WHAT
I remember i watched documentary about last Elvis day and his death and all were so surprised in autopsy when found out that he had so many light hair, they thought that it's some anomaly because of his health condition, but they didn't understood, that it's his natural hair 🤭
@@MoviesinDepth He used the color 'Black Velvet'. Yes...the song was about him ;)
Anyone else feel like the relationship between The Colonel and Elvis has the same energy as the relationship between Palpatine and Anakin (especially in Revenge of the Sith)?
My grandpa met Elvis in the army too!!!
I LOVE THAT
I can tell you had so much fun watching this movie. This is movie is amazing.
Man you should have seen it in theatres. The movie is sooo big and the sound is soooo big it can only be fully and completely appreciated in theatre.
Just to clear something up, 1 million dollars in 1969 was worth about 8 million today.
Major feat of directing to pull this movie together
And I think he did some or all of the editing.
Or maybe Baz is doing the Director's cut?
Saw this in theaters with my mom and nana we were basically having a concert in the theater singing every song thankfully there were not many people in the theater and they were doing the same thing
amazing movie and it shoked me so hard. I didn't know much about Elvis and after movie i wanted to know more, mooooore. I watched movie 3 times. I'm glad that more young people will discover him. I understand that movie is sugarcoated, but it's kinda monument for this artist, to celebrate his awesomeness.
My sentiments exactly
AWARD TO YOU:
BEST REVIEW OF THE BEST ELVIS MOVIE EVER: ELVIS 2022 MOVIE
Tom hanks portrayed Tom Parker perfectly
YES
Yes, except the accent was strange but he really made us hate his character as tom parker and he does it so quick LEGEND
Ahh, yay! I was hoping you'd react to this one!! It's such a great movie, and probably the only 2 1/2 hour movie that felt too short.
Yeah I think Austin sang the early songs but they mixed his voice with Elvis’ for the songs later in his career
@@Jessiex818 It is 100% Elvis in the 68 Special, Vegas, and the final song Unchained Melody. The only part where it is Austin is a couple of lines of If I Can Dream when Austin is laying down.
It is 100% Elvis in the 68 Special, Vegas, and the final song Unchained Melody. The only part where it is Austin is a couple of lines of If I Can Dream when Austin is laying down.
Little Richard was a highlight of this movie, IMO
Austin Butler was Beyond phenomenal.I bought the movie so i can watch it over and over.
I remember seeing this in theaters with a few friends, God it was so good
I found out that the actress that played Big Mama Thornton in this movie lived in Nashville (which is where I live)
My Favourite Biopic Of All Time And One Of My Favourite Films🙌🏻🔥
Younger Elvis was sung by Austin
Older Elvis was a mix of Austin and The King Of Rock🎶
Austin for the Oscar🏆
I know this might seem silly, but when I got home after the movie and was hitting up my friend to tell em how much I enjoyed it, said friend asked me, "well how was Tom Hanks' southern accent?"
To which I replied, in my head, "... when was Tom Hanks in that movie?"
I think this was really such a spectacular role for Hanks, I genuinely couldn't see Tom Hanks at all in the Colonel character, to the point that I had to google the cast to be sure my friend wasn't just crazy!
My favorite film from this year
22:56 No….he said when you are 40 and I am 50 we will get back together….Elvis never made it to 50…he died at 42.
You killed this as a reviewer, I'm an instant fan. Beautiful movie, thank you for covering it. 👍😎💯🔥
Was not an Elvis fan, but this film 'Nailed it' on so many levels. Everyone!!!! Not just Austin. Each detail was on point.
Yeah, of course they won’t say anything bad about Elvis. When a dude wiggles like he does, they’re screaming to know how he *AHEM* wiggles in bed….
@@osmanyousif7849 This movie was created to celebrate his talent and legacy and not his flaws
Young Elvis actual Elvis was so beautiful. Swear that was the start of my attraction to light eyes dark hair
And we were made to believe that Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump introduced Elvis to his dance moves 🤣
RIGHT
The younger Elvis songs are sung by Austin Butler. Older ones are Elvis, I believe.
Best~ ;)
"A Star is Born" was originaly a movie for Elvis Presly to star in, at exactly that stage of his life. The colonel didn't let him do it.
You should definitely watch Rocketman. It is one of best films of all time.
I just love how enthusiastic u get when he plays his songs and then when u said thank u EP lol I had to subscribe to u cause ur so funny also!❤
You are adorable!
The guy sounds and looks Colburn talk show-I like this guy and he is fun.
You what's crazy because that's real tears of Austin butler about the mom dying because I don't know if you know this or not in real life elvis and Austin butler have in common they both lost their mom when they was 23 years old
Ok heart broken more
I LOVE this movie. Baz Lurhman did it again. And Austin Butler absolutely ate this role. And I heard that Austin is still talking like Elvis
I think the funny and clever comments every second is too much. Not seeing you legitimately react to the movie.
They didn't spend much time showing Elvis and Priscilla's relationship probably cause she was 14 and he was 24 when they met 😬. I know Elvis means a lot to many people but the man was kind of a creep.
I still found the film entertaining and loved Austin Butler's performance though
Agreed. Do people not realize they can think the whole meeting at 14 and 24 is creepy and also like the movie ?🤷🏽♀️
Its still so funny Austin can't stop talking like Elvis. And Ethan Klein said Austin Butler is just yassified Napoleon Dynamite, he was so right.
About Austin singing, there are songs he sings himself and some where his voice is mixed with recordings of Elvis' voice
I’m from Memphis,my grandfather was taught Karate by the same guy as Elves Master Kang Rhee.
Yes Austin Butler sang some. But you can tell the difference when it's Elvis singing. That special magic tone comes to life with Elvis. Absolutely NO Elvis impersonator can capture this.
Just as friendly reminder, folks. Elvis was 24 when he met Priscilla and she was 14… just sayin
what I would give to be in the same room as big mamma, little Richard, and Elvis Presley
for most of the movie , austin does most of the singing until the late 60s . the later eras is a mix of elvis and austin 😄
The dvd I ordered arrives tomorrow!! I'm never gonna leave my house again!!
You are something else LOL Elvis was something else LOL I guess I just don't know how to break it down and I don't want to too much tonight I cannot professionally having analytical perspective and be able to explain it all I know is I am reacting to your reaction on an emotional and intuitive level and that is I truly enjoyed it and understand you're incisive and a political deliveries in you're particular angles LOL it was entertaining and for me intuitively I could understand a lot of your p o i n t s, and note that I feel that you are an interesting subject all of your own and maybe a star in the making lol! Appreciated your reaction later alligator
Austin is singing the young Elvis. Elvis is singing from the 68 Special on.
I just bought this on DVD and I'm so happy I can watch it whenever I want now 😭😭
