@@jackiejackieplayz3791 everyone said that back then and thought nothing of it. Especially close friends who were goofing around or criticizing one another. It wasn't said in order to bully people with down syndrome. You can't blame someone who localized the game to English in a week for thinking it might have been what they were trying to convey.
The thing is she never even said the line in Japanese
In the original game she says the line in response to Barrett saying something along the lines of "Marlene if I die up here I'm sorry I never got to read you another bedtime story" to which Tifa replies the r word, but in Japanese she said something closer to "Barrett you shouldn't make jokes like that"
In Japanese she was concerned that he was joking about living his young daughter without a parent, in English she insults him for complaining

LoL I agree, it would have been hilarious if the top floor was locked and couldn't be breached and you had to go down to say about the 10th floor or wherever the first elevator battle encounter was.
