- #WiseChoices Founder/Consumer Investigator Andy Wise warns consumers who are selling their cars online to look out for scammers trying to use fake vehicle history sites to rip them off.
This is literally happening to me right now! Thank you so much!
You’re welcome! Stay vigilant!
This is also happening to me right now. I'm based in Canada selling a Canadian car. The "buyer" wants a NMVTIS report (US report) and is demanding I go through their website. Some real scummy people in the world
I just got scammed! should I notify my bank to change my debit card or credit card??
Happening to me right now too. Thank you, Andy! Thought it smelled fishy!
5 years later and this video still helped me out. Thanks!
Glad it was able to help you. Way to be vigilant!
This is literally happened to me. THANK YOU SO MUCH for your information. You SAVE my life from those scammers!
You're welcome!
Fuck what do I do
Me too 😡
This actually happening to me right now, I was suspicious and start looking up and end up on your RUclips. Thank you you saved me and others .
You’re welcome! I’m glad you were vigilant to do some research.
same
Lol same here. I wasn't suspicious at first until the 2nd guy asked for a report and then the 3rd
Thank you for this video! I had a “buyer” request this report. After watching your video I told him he could print his own report and shove it.
Good comments. I have bought and sold many cars online for years. Two corrections here...
1) The free Carfax report does not tell you ANYTHING. It is worthless. It says 10, 15, 20 reports found. It does not tell you if it has been in an accident or how many owners. To get any real report, you have to pay for the reports!!
2) You are NOT responsible to provide anyone any report when you are selling your car at all!! Let the buyer pay and get their own report. That is what I did when I was buying cars from private owners. I paid to get the reports. Many times I also did NOT buy the cars based on those reports. However you are responsible to provide your vehicle's VIN so the potential buyers can get their own report.
Agreed. What CarFax offers for free is NOT useful or actionable info; it just tells you how many reports/details are on the report. It's still a great site and service (and I think the best one out there) and WELL worth it when you're buying or selling, but don't kid yourself about any of it being free. There is absolutely nothing useful they offer for free.
I’ve worked in the automotive industry for years, and have bought and sold many vehicles, and this scam was pretty tough to sniff out the first time. Luckily because I work in the industry I was able to offer a free carfax, and when they declined that and insisted on another site that set off the alarm bells. Very we thought out scam that’s going to trick a lot of inexperienced sellers.
Thanks, I knew it was suspicious as soon as I saw the fee. Thanks again for alerting people
Alicia Kemp You’re welcome!
Yeah I had 4 people contact me about getting a report history for my vehicle. The funny thing is I already have one printed and have one to show the buyer when I see him in person but they still want me to go pay for one on their website. Damn Scammers!!!
Thank you Andy for looking out for all of us!! I greatly appreciate that.
You’re welcome! Thank YOU for the kind comment!
Thanks! I’m selling my car and this person immediately asked for a VS report. I asked what that was then they gave me the link. This was from someone showing a Michigan phone number yet I live in Ontario, Canada. They weren’t phased by me saying we can meet at the police station for any interactions. After watching your video I can see this would have been a virtual scam and no one would have ever showed up. Thanks for sharing this important info!!
Thank you for this! I almost got scammed; my cynicism and your video saved me.
I havent sold a car in while, but am glad i did my homework. I just posted an ad for my car on CL and the amount of these requests is ridiculous. Thanks for the video!
IvanIvanovich You’re welcome!
This literally just happened to me. I’m so glad I told them to get lost lol
Same here!
The guy is still texting me😂. I told him to screw off, he even sent me a picture of cash lmao
Cheers for the Video! Apologies for chiming in, I am interested in your opinion. Have you heard about - Tarbbatigan Judicious Shopping Tip (google it)? It is a good one off product for learning how to check used car history minus the headache. Ive heard some interesting things about it and my GF at last got great success with it.
thank you sir
Just happened today rhank God I watched this video
Thanks for taking the time to post that scam. You Saved us.
You're welcome! Thanks for being vigilant!
Had some dude try to guilt trip me into buying a report. Printed one from VIN data and sent him the report. Then he was saying "I need it from this website, not the one you used." So I told him "You can buy that one yourself then." And left it at that.
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!! It is currently happening to me right now with two different 'interested buyers' I am so glad I felt the red flag and researched this further. You're right, as soon as you provide the carfax, they stop replying.
I’m so grateful you took the time to think this through and check. Excellent!
Actually i was gonnna give these guys reports from their provided link. Thank god you saved me from this scam. I posted my car on kijiji and all of sudden i’m receiving lot msg from them and one thing common in these people is they would ask for vehicle history report from their specific site
Glad you thought to check into it and found me!
thank you very much for information ... too bad it was too late for me ... I fell into that game ....I am sure this video will help many people... national auto reports this is scam
Thanks man. Almost got scammed by one asking for a report from NAR
Thank You! We have received two of these demands this week on our Craigslist post! Thank You! Just knew it was fishy!
Patty Albright You’re welcome! Way to be vigilant! #WiseChoice
This is literally happening to me right now! So glad I found this video. I sent a guy a carfax report on my car, which is obviously the most common and legit report for vehicles. He said his mom wanted me to do a check from a different website. NOPE!!!
Glad to help!
Happened to me today. They said that a money is not a problem just give me a report. They even sent me a direct link for that website. Thank you for a video!!!
You’re welcome! Glad to help!
Selling my bike. 5 Scams so far. All the same - set up meet time and ask for vehicle history report from some strange source. Easy to spot. Also phone numbers often have area codes 1000's miles distant from you.
They tried it on me. I told him where to go. Thanks for helping with this awareness.
You just saved me from getting scammed good sir. I appreciate it. 👏👏👏
Kenneth DeFelice Glad to hear it!
Thank you for this video!! This just happened to me and it didn’t seem right, and I blocked them and didn’t click on the link.
You’re welcome! Glad you were diligent in checking before falling for it!
Thank you for the video sir. Someone was about to scam me today. Your video saved me 😊
@@krizz939 So glad to hear this! Thanks for letting me know and thanks for being vigilant! 👊🏻😎
@@AndyWiseChoices please make more videos like this. You are saving everyone from scammers literally
This just happened to us yesterday! The first red flag was the text from an out of country phone number, then he wouldn't accept the carfax report that we have, kept insisting that it be from Autovin. Told him to piss off!
Thank you, I looked at your video, exactly what this scammer wanted me to do, not happening you saved me!
Glad I could help protect you!
Thank you so much for saving me from a scam!!! I was literally talking to someone and he demanded a “tvr report” I even mentioned carfax and he said no! Lmao thank you 🙏
Thank you Andy. Saved me from getting scammed.
Very glad to help!
A guy tried to do that to me today. He was disrespectful. So of course my intuition was going crazy like red flags. The information he was asking for didn't make sense. I told him my vin is on my profile and he can look that up no problem. He said money ain't a thing, So Im like well go buy you a car then.
He also tried to do the guilt trip. I didn't care because he was an idiot and apparently thought I was too. 😂😂😂😂 he said he was looking to buy a car in 10 days, had to talk to his boss about getting a day off. Usually people who have money don't need to do that. He also came with something about a ride and his cousin and coming all the way down Nd cash money. It was dumb.
Woooow someone literally messaged me today about my car!! Same exact story!! Sold his car last week, need one in less than 10 days cash ain’t no problem,
No way 🤦🏻♂️ same thing happened to me, also the same exact story.
Wonderful man! Right on time! Enjoy more blessing from your honest warning!
Thanks a million!
You’re welcome!
Thanks Andy, I appreciate the heads up!
You’re welcome, Evan!
Literally just happened to me. Thanks for the heads up.
You're welcome!
I have this people asking for this particular web site. But I figure that wasn’t right, something was wrong.. this video just made it clear for me.. thanks a bunch
"Ryan" also states in caps ONLY the owner of vehicle can pull report.
Thats what also raised red flag and finally "hurry im ready to deal"
Just had that happen today sent him this video and that shut him up thanks for sharing this video!
You’re welcome!
This scam is still going on. I listed a motorcycle on kijiji and had 3 different people ask for vehicle reports from 3 different web sites. I didn’t look up the sites but did waste about 2 hours of each one’s day messing with them. It is Sunday and I had nothing better to do. Amazing how defensive a scammer gets when you call them scammers. Fun way to spend a day.
My husband got a text from a guy, asking for NtR report, and told him to go to an specific website and he literally put “MAKE SURE you go to correct website”
I've my car for sale on Craigslist for five days now and I've already had 3 of these scam VIN register requests -- never fall for this. If somebody is legitimately interested in your vehicle, they won't ask for this type of information, at least not until they've checked out your vehicle first.
Exactly!!
Yeah they play the "I have to take a day off work" card, and ignore your offer to try to find a time that doesn't require this
Almost got taken to the cleaner on this one. It's been a while since we sold a vehicle on Craigslist and I wasn't aware this was happening. The broken English in the e-mails and text messages were also a giveaway. Glad I listened to my instincts.
Me too. Interested buyer insisted on getting an AVR. Not Carfax or Carproof.
Lol. They TRIED that on me. Lol. Definitely didnt work. Thanks You forgot, they aren't negotiating the price. WHO DOESN'T NEGOTIATE THE PRICE? LOL
""Did you even check the site? Only the owner off the vehicle can pull up title information, As much as i would like to be the owner i am NOT the owner. Only you have the authority to run it let me know i'm ready to make a deal"
Haha yeah that's precisely the words the scammer used on me today. Selling privately is frustrating.
Nice its been my second time that I've been asked that question so now I'm wondering how do I prank the scamer😅
thanks Andy, i wish i had listen to you before, i already was scammed exactly the way you said.
I’m very sorry, Daniel. Pays to be vigilant!
Thank you. I just received a suspicious message and i am glad I found your video.
There is a man who keeps insisting for me to send him this particular report. It’s very disgraceful how some degenerates live off doing these type of things. How can I make this person suffer for his actions? Should I report his phone number to the police?
Christian Rodríguez Figueredo His phone number is likely “spoofed” to make it appear it is coming from somewhere it’s not. Just discontinue all contact with him.
https vehicle report pro .com was just sent to me. Your video relies heavily on the .vin ... they have seen this video and are using .com now.
Thank you.
Ken Winiecki Same difference. If the contact is unsolicited and it’s demanding a specific site or link, it’s a scam everytime. Doesn’t matter what the .whatever is. It’s 1. the unsolicited contact, and 2. the insistence on a specific, unusual vehicle history site that is NOT one of the ones I mentioned by name.
He almost got me.. Thank God I followed my decrement and googled!
Just happened to me. Thanks so much. Wish people would get a real job!!!
Damn, just got a request to do just this smh, good thing I came across this
Glad you did!
You litterally just saved me man i almost got scammed trying to sell my motorcycle on craigslist told that guy to f*** off
Thank you , Andy! Very precious info for me right now.
We just got a call from someone asking for a NAR report and asking for us to get the report at NationalVinReports.com . I checked their IP and coincidently it is the same IP as the website NationalAutoReports.com and the Geolocation: BG (Bulgaria) .. If someone is asking for a report and they don't accept CarFax it's a SCAM.. They should accept CarFax and not push you to get any reports from any other place...
This was very helpful! Thank you!
You're welcome! Glad I could be of help!
Andy thanks I was scammed
@@296045002 I’m sorry to hear that.
This is happening to me now. I already stopped texting the guy but I thought I was missing out on making some money
This scam is so rampant, it's unbelievable. They requesting the same thing from me but thanks to RUclips reports about it, I blocked the phone number.
Thanks dude! I just caught one of these scammers because of you!
Excellent! Way to be vigilant!
@@AndyWiseChoices Thanks!

F’er got me I feel so stupid. If it doesn’t feel right. It probably isn’t! Always go with your gut

Are you still selling. 2014 BMW R 1200 GS ?
Michael:
So far, yes.
1st Contact About GSA:
Great. Okay so how long you had it and is there any work needed other than described in the add ? ?
Michael :
No work is needed, I bought it last year from the second original owner. He did some touring and some trail riding, which is where the panniers have some love scratches due to tight spaces on a trail. No damage to the bike, frame, cam covers.
I put the new tires on them in August, so they only have a little over 1000 miles on them. I commuted on it last year from Kaysville to Draper almost every weekday, one ride to Yellowstone two up, and a dozen or so local canyon rides. So I put a little over 4000 miles on the bike. I never had one issue. I'm a little short, so sometimes riding in the two-up suspension mode was a reach for my inseam.
It's in incredible condition, the previous owner and I kept in the garbage, and it hasn't gone longer than a week between washing when I'm riding it.

Nice to meet you Michael Sawyer I'm at work till 11 today so I'm waiting for you to send me the GCS paperwork report so I can arrange a day off before
leaving my shift tonight.
Michael:
I'm not familiar with that website, so I will not be purchasing a report there.
I'm fine purchasing a report from one of the approved providers from the NMVTIS website.
vehiclehistory.bja.ojp.gov/nmvtis_vehiclehistory#vppxb9
Let me know if you have a preference.
Michael:
Here is a report from a reputable approved site:
"URL removed for the PDF DOC"
You can also pay for a report from another site if you prefer. I purchased mine from titlecheck.us
1st Contact About GSA:
I've sent you the link because I've done a couple of reports in the past never had an issue so I trust the results its much more detailed and cheap so I referred
Michael:
Well, I'm not using it. It's reported as a scamming site, so you can use the report that I sent you or run the Vin on-site that you prefer. I suggest you look at the national website of approved vendors. They are not on it, and there's plenty of evidence that they are scam sites. If you are insisting on me using that site, I assume you might be a scammer yourself.
I won't continue communication with you unless we have a video conversation, and I can verify you and your US driver's license.
1st Contact About GSA:
Look, I've sold my vehicle so I'll be paying someone to drive me down.. its the only reason I want to see the report as we're not talking about a small
sum of money. Just want to be sure as if all is well. I'll take it off your hands and we can do the transfer simple as that...
Michael :
Scammer, you should be ashamed. I work for a cyber security company, I know how you scoundrels work.
Repent and trying being honest for a change, your abuse of people will come with a higher cost sooner or later. You'll never get ahead by taking advantage of people. "
Thanks for the video/warning. It helped me confirm this scam artist!
Great info. Thank you.
You're welcome!
I have text messages from two of these people two different times and they're not. Ven sites but they're definitely the exact same thing you're talking about I can send you info if you want to update
Crystal Taylor Thanks for being vigilant! It won’t be necessary to send me those numbers. They’ll be spoofed, anyway...made to look like they’re coming from someplace else.
Thank you for making this video, I was very close today
You’re welcome! Way to be vigilant!
I got caught today, but I did not go the his website but rather the one on Google , What is the danger for me now?? I'm scared
As long as you didn’t share personal or financial info, you should be OK.
Had 4 of these requests this week, none were .vin , said they had to book a day off from work so needed the report first.
same here
I think someone was doing this.
Thank you for the warning!
Hi, I fall on a scam...I clink on the damn link and I bought the report.....I changed my credit card when I See this is a scam
What does one do if got scammed on this ?
Credit card was cancelled any thing else should do?
You already made the right first move, shutting down your credit card. You might consider going to www.annualcreditreport.com and get your free credit report from each of the three credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion) to check for any errors or unusual accounts.
Wow thanks this literally happened to me yesterday and went to search it up and this video came up 👍🏼👍🏼
Lol. They put so much effort in to scamming that they could probably make more just working and not being a POS 😂
Thanks 🙏

Just happened to me I told them to pound sand.
Good for you!
This happening to me right now from AVR auto vehicle report
Thank you so much for this!
You’re welcome!
Just had a guy try this. I blew up on him
Isn’t it customary that people list their vin number when listing a car for sale so the buyer can check?
I recently tried to buy a vehicle and the buyer wouldn’t give complete info on car
I notice dealerships list vin number
I hear the scam is different
Wonder if they just do it to folks who don’t list vin #?
Thank you for the heads up
Thank you. Helped a ton.
