It was hourly and I’d imagine he was leveraging that information in hopes he’d be able to broker a deal for another 911 targa. Which he bit,but he shouldn’t have put him in contact with anyone he knew or did business with any who has a 911 targa.
I've run into a few of these pathological liars over the years. They're really something else. Gotta be careful around them!

indeed!! they will, sometimes, go to pretty crazy lengths to keep their insanity bubble from being popped!!! all of these people have an insanity bubble around them that they primp and preen to keep reality from crashing in on their bullshit and if you push too hard on that bubble, they CAN get quite dangerous!!! I know first had about one such madman, who has now, THANKFULLY!!!, passed....but ....oh yeah......and they arent just patho liars they are narcissists and the malignant narcissist is a very dangerous person, indeed!!

I met the videogame version of this guy. I was in high school around 2001 before Retro gaming had fully taken off. (You would not beleive how cheap "rare" games that go for thousands were back then) I briefly met a guy at a little retro game convention held in a church. Later I was selling an Atari ST computer and he showed up as the buyer. He proceeded to tell me about his wife from Japan, how he was a famous DJ who had toured with Del the Funkee Homosapien, partied with all these famous people and was friends with them. Unprompted. I was a high school sophomore and this guy was about 30 and seemed cool, and had no reason to be making up this stuff so I thought nothing of it at the time other than that he had a cool interesting life. 4-5 years later I saw him working the same crappy Job as me at Nintendo in the testing. I said "Hey Leland!" and started referencing Del and he gave me a blank look. He didn't recognize me and forgot his lies about Del and having a wife from Japan, none of it.
Reminds me of a guy I went to high school with. While we were in driver's ed he claimed he had his uncle's drag racing Dodge Duster, that it had some monster engine, that it was blue with gold hexagon stripes, that it wasn't street legal but his uncle had driven it on the street all the time down in Florida, and so on. He claimed that his house backed up to my town's golf course. Whether he lived there or not, I don't know, but I rode my bike down that street a couple times and never saw a Duster. I wonder where he is now.
@@bwofficial1776reminds me of a guy from my sophomore year. Talked about how he was always buying junk cars and flipping them for double and how his dad had a fleet of vintage muscle. One day he said he’d take his dad’s 70 boss convertible to school the next day. I never saw that car, but I have a feeling the fact that there’s no such thing as a boss convertible might have had something to do with it. The funniest part is that the only car I ever saw him in was a 2006 jeep Cherokee.

I think everyone who goes on vinwiki has an agenda they’re promoting. Whether it be to provide provenance for a shady car or to promote a new business.

Early on as an independent audio engineer, I got scammed out of $1500 for a project. From that moment on, I demand 1/2 of the agreed to budget up front. ( Non Refundable) Balance on delivery of the masters. Haven't been scammed since. And I'm pretty sure Doug hasn't been either. Good vid. I've bought 5 cars from Doug and won't go anywhere else to purchase a toy..
I work with a guy who is constantly spilling lies and being condescending. Drives me crazy. The worst type of people.

Doug could tell any story and I would listen with a smile. He's got the art for it. There's been a random splatter of other good stories on here but few people (myself included) can consistently tell even a boring story in a way that is always entertaining. Doug and Christopher both have that. And they also both seem to have the type of personality that just ends up in the middle of crazy stories.
I just love how he has endless amounts of stories to tell always hooks me in

Yup! Birmingham is from my neck of the woods and has been called out for his scams just like this. Even going as far to make deals on brand new porsches only to leave to get a cashiers check and then never return. We have all sorts of stories about him

I've met so many people like this. Best was I hired this kid for production line. The line went down one day so he was working directly with me on a project I was on while the rest of crew was put to another task. We started talking cars, because he knew I was into cars. Somewhere in the conversation the Cobalt SS came up. I said something about the turbo version being better (read: faster) car and he tried to tell me that the supercharged was indeed and that his friend had one that made 800 horsepower.
I wasn't as nice as Doug, I immediately called him on his bullshit. He then doubled down and said that the car ran 8's in the quarter mile. I laughed HARD, and told him there was no way it ran 8's even with 800 horsepower, and then he TRIPLED down and said the car only weighed 800 lbs. I told him the chassis along weighs more than that.
He was still insisting and I basically told him to just STFU. I said, you might be able to bullshit the guys on the line, but you're not going to bullshit someone that obviously knows more about cars than you do.
BTW, pretty sure the fastest Cobalt in the world has only ever ran 11's (not including pro mods)
Finally, a legit and interesting, exciting, funny, informative and complete story from a good story teller. Its been quite unimpressive, imho, as of late. It had me worried what direction VinWiki heading... So thank you for restoring my faith in the channel!

I've never hired a car inspector but when you get an appraisal done which is very similar, typically they don't give you the report until you pay. Sounds like you are a bit too trusting.

If his website domain says engineering either the guy is a licensed professional engineer and you can file an ethics complaint with his state board or he is pretending to be an engineer and you can file a more serious complaint for pretending to be.
