Doug NOT getting this Panoz was way more interesting than "i wanted car, I bought car, car is cool" 😅
The fact that he had the chance to disbar a lawyer involved in human trafficking and didn't take it is awful
@@hizzeist Do we actually know that Doug had any evidence that the authorities did not already have?
@0:29 is that Ponzi Pete's Portugese Panoz parked parallel to a pristine Plymouth Prowler?
I take pride in being a purveyor of pristine Plymouth Prowlers. The possibility of the Portuguese Panoz portrayed by Ponzi Pete as being pristine is particularly problematic if you plan to pursue any potential profits given a collectors proclivity to be proactive to the point of being persnickety. This is just my personal perspective since this particular Portuguese Panoz is outside my purview!
@@theanomalous1401 phew
Ouch...but well played 😁
You guys bested me in the pee pee tourney on this episode.
@@theanomalous1401 that was somg glorious "V for Vendetta" stuff right there lol
As a Portuguese person, watching him try to pronounce Paulo is pretty funny, not gonna lie :P
I really want to meet a Pêulo now!
I nearly spat up my pastel de nata. He's lucky there wasn't someone named João.
Me too
É engraçado para caralho hahaha
Perpetuation and pernicious came out easy.. Paulo not so much lol
I read this as he said it lmfao
All the internet searchers of Panoz cars better watch out.
Yep... all 4 of them. I used to sell the AIV version brand new back in the mid 90's at an Illinois dealer. Only sold one red one. But they sure were fun to take out on a Saturday morning to "clean out the injectors"!
Still have a framed photo of a red AIV on my wall
How don't you have a check ✔️ by your name yet.
Ed, just sent you an email. I get hundreds of emails every time a Panoz is listed for sale looking for information.
Jamie Sullens is the authentic person to contact about Panoz cars.
I lost it at “perpetuation of his pernicious past”. One of my favorite story tellers here.
I love how Doug used words starting with P as much as possible for alliteration purposes :)
Ponzi Pete's perpetuation of his pernicious past made for a pleasurable Panoz parable.
Had to go there... The alliteration in this episode had me rolling, whether intentional or not. 😂🤣
Hehe, well done sir!
For as smart as this guy seems to be, he sure has stories of getting scammed or nearly scammed. Almost like a challenge " I wanna see if I can get scammed on this deal"
When you want something you will rationalize things that someone who has no interest will see is bullshit
when you hunt for rare cars and actually have money to spend, people will come up with lots of ways to scam you. You have to be super on your shit when collecting cars. so much fuckery.
I'm sure at the beginning he was more savvy because the risk was more severe
He did get scammed. He spent all that effort and time and flew a guy out to Portugal to come out empty handed with a dud ending story. LOL
@@robertharvilla4881 yeah he definitely flew a dude to Portugal and paid him to stay there for months
"Instant trustworthiness as an attorney" interesting choice of words
Bordering on naive .
Im pretty sure that Eleanor clone is the one I tried to buy not too long ago the story all matches up the same there was a lawyer in Florida I won't mention his name but he was representing a client who had stored them in Portugal in the background of a couple of the pictures you could see that yellow panoz in the background of some of the images that were sent to me.
Time for your story on VinWiki.
Watch out with how you say Eleanor, or *they* might come after you and try to take it.
@@PhilipAnderson I dont think they would ever ask me to but if they did i would gladly come on and tell the story. It's a very interesting one.
@@jamesbarker5254 WOW! A follow up would be beyoooond awesome my guy, hit them up?
I'm simple a man, I see Doug telling the story, I like the video right away!!!
Same here
He is very good but Ed is the master.
@@niagra898 That's A Completely FALSE Statement My Friend.👎🤣 Ed isn't even in the Top 5!💯
Probably the threat to the lawyer got your money back. Without him their whole operation falls apart, and I'd guess they expect their targets to fixate on Pete.
But the girl wiring it from her account was probably scammed in this process.
@@itsmebatman huh? Maybe you need to listen again.
At 16 minutes in I still thought this story had a chance of ending with him getting the car!
Portuguese citizen here. Such a nice story.
When I sell a car, I always put in the advert " You will need to come look at the car in person, I won't be selling remotely, no face to face, no sale." It seems to avoid a lot of hassle.
Fun fact, Pedro “Pete” Benevides, lived ten minutes from me in a beautiful mansion off Silver Lake here in FL. I believe it was built in 1920 and had a pool, huge car garage, “sporting” room the size of a big two story garage, in laws building, movie theater, waterfall inside that was near some brass thing, a wine room and a room at the top of the house that you could look out and see a 360 degrees view of all around. I’d post photos if I could, I went in there when it was for sale after it was foreclosed on after he went to jail. Beautiful home. Around 10,000sqft if I remember correctly.
Do you know if the place is still there?
9293 Silver Lake Dr in leesburg?
@@tristan8243 Fun fact if you use google earth and go back to the Feb 2008 sat picture of this place you can see the Eleanor clone in the driveway. If you go to Jan 2006 you can see the Panoz I believe.
Been in that house several times. The first time was when my family was looking to buy a new home. It was a wreck then but it still had the large indoor olympic size pool in the back. The original builders daughter was an Olympic swimmer. The guy who owned it at that time (early 80's) had a huge red velvet bed with a mirrored ceiling above. My dad passed on the house the instant he set foot in it. Years later it was bought, added to and renovated to a very high level by friends. The indoor pool was filled in at some point. They invited us there for a party after it was finished and it was amazing inside. The waterfall feature and the model train room were the 2 most interesting things to me. They later sold when the real estate market boomed and the house entered its "shady" phase where various luxury cars would sit in the driveway periodically. I heard it was bought by a former grove owner who cashed out his orange trees for developers track housing. The house is still there and has been in varying levels of disrepair the last few years. It is a pity bc when my friends owned it the house was truly spectacular.
I’d be willing to put money those cars are sitting at 1461 Tagus ave in coral gables that’s Pete’s current house and the house has no satellite view or road view
Ed - more stories from Doug. One of your best car story guys.
Yeah he makes big moves and has a lot going on concurrently so whether you like him personally or not, his stories are interesting
How did I know this would be a story from Doug?
I get the thrill, the sense of superiority of having 'scammed' people, and, of course, the money, but if people had spent half their energy into a legal job then their lives wouldn't occasionally be interrupted by the sound of iron bars locking them in every night.
Car Stories...now with alliteration!
Ponzi Pete's Portuguese Panoz? Preposterous!
I do love me a good alliteration.
"Ponos" means "diarrhea" in Russian. So hearing "Panoz" repeatedly is a giggly experience for me.
There are a lot of Rui in Portugal....

"oh, i see you have yellow panoz comrade. Yesterday my panoz was red, do you think i should see doctor? Do you mind if i sit in your panoz friend? Nothing i like more than sitting in panoz. Whether it's mine or someone else's, not matter"

Fucking a right! Doug stories are always good ones.
They probably would've siezed that car as soon as it hit American soil, probably why they never shipped it
Doug tells the best stories. Love that he doesn't do some long history of the car he's talking about, doesn't blow himself up as an expert or he's this or thatir, and doesn't oversell himself. He's just genuine. But he is Essentially a used car salesman and specialty car salesman. He's supposed to be affable and earnest. Just a great story teller.

Hey Doug, do the right thing.
Use that $7500 to do whatever it takes to get the lawyer disbarred. We all want to hear that story.

This man's skill for alliteration is off the charts.
This might be one of the best VINWiki stories
The only reason they were moved was because they realized people know where they were now .. think of it as you cost them money in transportation of vehicles from one stash house to another ….
Doug pulled out the penultimate placement of phonics for this one.
“So I was driving through a field of red flags, I kept dismissing the flags because I wanted the car. Turns out I still didn’t get the car. Listen to me ramble on about it for 20 minutes”
this could literally be the plot in the next sicario movie
Glad to have Doug back!
Thank You Doug for sharing this Story with us to educate all future "unique" car buyers.
You should notify the Feds about the cars and their location so they can attach them and scoop them up. Then you have a chance St getting them at a government auction.
Doug's stories are always great!!
Likely just wanted someone else to foot the bill for importation of his car
Couldn’t you sue/try to disbar the lawyer for misuse of escrow funds?
Yes, he can file a compliant through the Florida bar.
As an owner of an 98 Panoz GTRA, I am glad to see a video on here 😀
"automatic trustworthiness as an attorney" ????? Have you met an attorney in person? Like ever?
This story. Seems like a challenge of how many words starting with the letter P you can shoehorn in the script 😂😂
That alliteration is legendary
So who’s going to count all the times he uses a p word ?

Abundant appreciation for the ample application of alliteration!

"if it's too good to be true, it probably is. But maybe..."
I'm pretty sure that was the Eleanor clone (a 5-spd 351), from Portugal, that I almost got scammed on during the same window of time.
Another brillant case of "his girlfriend; and i dont know what happened to his ex wife".
Sounds like they're using the cars to scam people, and you got the attorney nervous enough that they said 'Give him the cash back".
These stories are fascinating! They also help most folks stay clear of buying exotic cars on the secondary market.
Sounds like Pete got fed up wiv the long distance sale had a local opportunity sent your bread back an got the easy local sale 🤣
What a great story. Living in North GA, Panoz has always been intriguing to me.
I got to go on a dumpster diving expedition there (with permission from an insider). Grabbed a bunch of Cobra engine wiring harnesses, cross members, and misc bits. I still have a MAF sensor operating in my car from that trip!

Panoz is such an interesting company. No advertising and such a niche company.
The alliteration in this video is off the charts and I’m all for it
Doug needs his own RUclips channel. He’s best one here.
I mean, the alliteration in the thumbnail is so good that I would happily fall into whichever trap is presented to me

The Pathetic Plot of Pedro Pete's Portuguese Ponzi Panoz
I'm not sure how this would have been such the master scam. He sent money, the scammer had it at some point, but inexplicably decided to give it back. Any sight unseen purchase relies on a certain amount of trust.
I'm willing to bet the lawyer was on the phone ordering the return as soon as he threatened his "clean" record with the bar.
For future reference, the crap I've seen lawyers pull in 20 years of practice, they almost never get sanctioned by the bar, unless they willfully steal money from a client. Literally. Only steal money from a client.
when doug gets on, you always know it’s gonna be a wild ride
When he said let me wire you the money to refund the money, what is the scam in giving someone your routing number? They can only add, not put any money in
Doug is the ass kicking best. I consider him The Rod Serling of the automotive twilight zone. Only the Mexican Stig would possibly get this involved in international intrigue and come out ahead.
Hola 👋. LoL
I was a dealer for Panoz for a few years. Worked the Detroit Auto show stand in 1997 for the introduction of the AIV Roadster with my buddy from MI and Jack Bair from Panoz. Sold quite a few Esperante as well, incl. half of the 10 car production of the Jan Magnusson special edition. Very cool cars that influenced the Prowler and the dash on the BMW Z8. Lots of fun to drive. Everyone thought the Esperante was a jag.
i can't imagine going to these lengths to buy any car, lol.....

He didn’t get scammed because they have bigger fish to fry. The kind of people to stay away from.
I had the same thing happen to me with a GTO. I caught it in time

He got up to "lots of p's". Paolo in Portugal..Panoz...Ponzi Pete...and for the first time ever I finally wondered if we're in a simulation.
the mustangs Eleanor clone is not hiden in a garage, but it is up north from portugal (Aveiro/Porto/Braga i think), saw it on a video like two days ago. It even have the licence plate on the back headrest (black plate) displaying "eleanor" in yellow

Doug should have filed the case with the bar anyway. The misappropriation of the funds still happened.

One way to protect yourself on a questionable check is go to issuing bank and pay whatever the fee is to have it converted to a cashiers check to your company. Or if its in your name and not company name you should be able to cash it there.

Are they really? I forgot they even existed. I used to see them in the DuPont Registry when I was in middle school. I used to want one.

Panoz cars use all ford power plants and other components. They say they are a car manufacturer but the only thing they make is the fiberglass body and parts of the frame and then try to sell it for too much money. Dont buy one. All it is is a weird handling mustang.
I know right? I can't understand why any one would want one of these over priced mustang kit cars. Seems like a total waste of money.
They probably paid up because the legality of the lawyer was far more profitable in human trafficking than the day to day scams that's bright in consistent money. By giving up going after the lawyer, it's a missed opportunity to do some real good in the world. Is it too late?
