      I don't understand how a flood damaged car is OK to repair and drive in the USA but not Canada? They told me electrical problems haunt the vehicle for the rest of it's life. Understandable but many connections are water tight. Many are not. When you have a car that steers by wire imagine the wheel not working on the highway. This might turn out to be a huge mistake for anyone restoring something like that as they could be sued right? If the flood in mentioned in the title then it's buyer beware?

      @@HemiLyfestyle This is very true at the low end. At the upper end, it's more reasonable - about 6K for the Bentley. The old adage that there's no free lunch is absolutely true. Every time you sell or buy a car it's an extra 1K minimum, so factor that in. People think that they can make money, but the reality is that you can look at a hundred cars over several days to find one that MIGHT turn a reasonable profit if you have your own lift and garage.

      Yeah, its tough to make a profit on a lot of these insurance cars. The repair time and complexity is often high and your taking risk every time you buy one that it could be a huge surprise in a bad way. I bought a Tesla that ended up being easier to repair than I expected but then the used price of Tesla’s plummeted 😅 so had to keep the car

    I've rebuilt a ton of cars over the years, some for personal use and some for resale. It's fun (I love learning new skills like body, paint, detailing, etc), I've gotten some personal cars I wouldn't otherwise have been able to afford, and I usually make money. The only cars I've really lost money on are high-miles German cars, and the most profitable ones (as a percentage of cost) have been American and Japanese sub $5k cars.
    To me, that Mercedes wagon was the only deal, assuming it runs. Some of the supercars and luxury brands can be profitable, but the risks are substantial. The difference between a $50k profit and a $20k loss is razor thin.

    • @muskokamike127
      @muskokamike127 5 месяцев назад +5

      Yeah, your entire profit can be wiped out by a single part on an exotic. V tuned did his McLaren and "made a profit" but he lost his shirt if you include the hours he spent on it. Even if you figure a very low $80/hr he had $80,000 in labour on it.

    • @dosgos
      @dosgos 5 месяцев назад +1

      "Cheap" car prices and demand have skyrocketed with the inflation on new cars. I think this is a great place for rebuilding; there is a lot to choose from and reasonable parts prices.
      On the other hand, with the spike in interest rates and sketchy economic situation, I think rebuilt exotics have become a more risky proposition.

    • @muskokamike127
      @muskokamike127 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@dosgos Well it used to be if you were "upside down" on a used car it was a bad thing. But oddly enough with the insane prices on new cars, the value of a used car has increased so you're not so upside down.
      I've put $8000 into my 2004 F150 and people said "you're nuts". Ok, ignoring the fact that it's a 5.4L, anything 6 yrs+ newer would cost me $20K and up AND come with its own problems. New? to replace it? $60,000+ and for that I could rebuild mine from the ground up and have enough to pay for gas for the rest of my life.

      I'm not really sure if the brakes are compatible with anything else. If they fit other models then I would say you could get around $5k for the used set. If they only fit a Cayenne then it's a pretty tough market because who really wants an expensive brake set for an old SUV...

      I bought the cayenne and daily drive it today. Recieved an offer of 10k for the brakes from a 911 owner. I declined.

    For a lot of these cars you have to think of the part out costs. I had a car totalled (like could not simply be fixed) and made more parting it out and selling what was left of the frame for scrap what i paid for it.

    Red Cayenne proves that expensive brakes aren't any good if you don't use them in time to not crash into something.

    Yes, like the video. I would spend my own money on the very last Ferrari. You looked at that one looks like it would be the easiest to bring back to life. Also, it’s one of my favorite body styles of Ferraris.

    U guys are lucky. In nsw Australia u could not register any of these cars. Govt here marks the vin never to be registered again when an insurance company writes off a vehicle

    Insurance auctions are a fools paradise. There is an entire industry of people buying these cars, making them look a little better and flipping them at the same auctions. Only If you are a scammer or need content for youtube the auctions make sense.

      @sagagsvczxbuc8q1tzxz *you're. Is it too hard to use the correct form of you're? Your is a possessive adjective like my, his, her etc.

      The entire salvage auction industry isn't completely made up of cover-ups. Thousands of cars sold daily, only a small percentage are cover-ups, larger percentage from dealers, the rest from insurance companies. Unlike these content seeking youtubers, I actually do this daily. I own a used car dealer that only buys salvage cars from copart. I never inspect cars in person either. You just have to know who you are buying from and that can tell you the condition of most cars. Also, managing risk.
