Hi Usui! I'm very glad you are making more micro apartment videos! I think it could be very useful if you are also able to ask the landlord or realtor whether the apartments that are being shown are able to be rented to foreigners. I heard that many landlords in Japan do not rent to foreigners.

Remember that purple wall a few episodes back that most of us did not like at all? Well, this concrete wall would make me wish for the purple one. But whatever the wall looked like, that ladder would make me run in the other direction!

Absolutely no charm in this one, cold and sterile. Feels more like a prison cell to me, too much cement. I’m glad you’re still looking at micro apartments, I find them quite interesting. Hopefully the next one will have a bit more going for it. Thank you for sharing!

Whoever designed the loft space with that diagonal cut that keeps the ladder from sitting straight ought to have his head examined.

'R2, shut down all the garbage mashers on the detention level!!'
I want to like this place. It has laundry and room for a fridge. The bathroom is tiny but it has a tub! The ladder to the loft doesn't look robust but it also doesn't look too clunky/heavy. The loft does offer a separation between living and sleeping space BUT that concrete wall is just too much for that space. I feel like there's no living there alone. It's me and my wall, which will eventually crush me in my sleep.

I lived in a van for 2.5 years and once there was a leak in the roof so I slept in a car park while it was raining. This apartment felt exactly like that car park - lucky my van was comfy and nice inside and much better than the apartment and no ladder!

Although small, I'd enjoy the challenge of decorating this apt. I'd slerp in the loft. Downstairs I'd attach a tall mural or a huge/lots of mirrors to the wall, and add lots of plants and lighting.

I've been subscribed a while but first-time commenting: I enjoy your micro apartment life videos. My apartment is 925 square feet/$1300 monthly in Brighton NY (suburb of Rochester). Large compared to micro units. I live only with my dog now that my children are adults and moved out. I
would downsize to a studio but would pay the same -- or more as I would be considered a new renter (even if I remain in same complex). I like that you are now giving us tours of other micro apartments in Tokyo. I really like the graphics and information on size, layout, amenities, etc. -- all very clearly posted. Very interesting and entertaining. THANK YOU.

It’s like a prison cell, and that loft is terrifying. I would only use it for storage, personally. I can’t imagine sleeping up there! I’d worry about whacking my head on that concrete if I sat up too quickly, or falling off the ladder if I had to use the toilet in the middle of the night.

The micro apartments are back! Love it! I am also amazed how livable Japanese micro apartments are. I lived in a micro apartment in San Francisco before, but there was no way to fit in a washing machine, a fridge, a bath tub or place to hang clothes. And the windows were so small that it was suffocating in summer (no air conditioning as well).

That apartment was used, but I am worried because I saw humidity spots, in the concrete ceiling and in the wood floor… Japan has high humidity, but a first floor, with good location, but bad ventilation… it will develop black mold in winter, and I have allergies to it…I liked it, but is better don’t rent it.

I kind of like the newer and designed as micro apartments. This has the look of taking a small apartment and adding a concrete wall between them.
Location is good as the price. But a loft is just storage for me, so the rest of the apartment has to be a little wider.

I don't mind the apartment. I think I could make anything work if I had to. I don't mind the glass bathroom door. You could cover the glass with a stick on glass covering to block it off. They have them on Amazon. What I do mind is that ladder! That would have to be fixed somehow so it isn't loose. If a better ladder were possible, my bedroom would be up in the loft.

  • @fairmania

What a disaster! Expensive, poorly though out spaces, sketchy access ladder, to small loft, poor finishes, and if you wobble on the ladder, you could potentially get caught on the hooks that store the ladder. I am so glad you decided to stay where you are, this is worse than some of the apartments your search took you to.

  • @rvprossjjlrzar

Looks like a very narrow space. Good for a single compact person with no fear of heights. Not much storage options either and especially for toilet paper. I don't mind cement walls, it's very modern with an artsy vibe, but it does look cold in this little space.

It's not horrible. I would want to find a way to make the ladder more stable. I'd put a door poster on the outside of the bathroom door for privacy, perhaps a big door poster of Spiderman!. The rent seems a bit high, but if I really like the location, I'd only need the place for somewhere to sleep and take a shower. I'd be out all the time doing stuff with friends.

They should have extended the loft another 18-24" over the fridge area and put the ladder on that side. Then it could be up all the time without blocking kitchen access, and you could still have a narrow fridge and a desk adn chair on the first floor, and a futon mattress with small chest of drawers in theloft.

The apartment had some modern features but the tenant would need to be small to fit in the bathroom & I would trip down the kitchen step! Will add a futon, a small bar fridge, a shelf above the fridge to put a toaster or other appliances, a plastic tier drawer with wheel & a foldable small table. If you’re not going to spend more than the minimum necessary amount of time in this apartment, then this works, because there is just not enough light to make it worth spending recreational time inside. Shame there is no toilet paper storage, it’s needed in such a small bathroom. I think the only plus to this is that with a concrete wall, it will be cooler in the summer, but the downside is that it will equally be colder in winter.

Určitě bych tam dal ještě jednu skříň na oblečení, stolek ke kuchyni ke zvětření pracovního prostoru psací stůl k oknu po celé šíři užší stěny. A fólii do skleněných dveří u WC. Nahoru k zábradlí zavěsil televizi, jen bych se bál o hlavu při sednutí si po probuzení. Betonový zdi bych přemaloval nějakou živou teplou barvou nebo jen vybílil.

@@usui503 It's really cool to see all the designs (both terrific and terrifying, lol). They remind me of my first place on my own, a cute little studio apartment that had clearly been the master bedroom of the place next door cus the adjoining door was still in place tho the doorknob removed with the hole filled in and the door itself sealed all the way around. They'd added a kitchenette to complete the utility as being a master bedroom, it had its own bathroom. The only door was a sliding glass door, which was also the only window so if I wanted light, I had to be more unhibited as others could walk past it and see inside (not much traffic as it turned out tho). It was probably an illegal change but it was affordable for this then 20yo. I'm in my early 60's now, and I still think of it fondly.

    Hi Usui! I missed microaparts...
This industrial style needs to be balanced with color accents, plants, textiles... but in this apartment there is so little space for this.. and in the video it looks, in my opinion, a little gloomy and cold and a lot of concrete for such a limited space. And because of its narrowness, it seems as if it is only half a room, divided by a concrete wall... as a result, your smaller micro-apartment looks more harmonious than this one.
As always, thank you for the beautiful flowers! 1:00 and 1:04
How are you doing these days?

Not feeling this one. Bathroom with a window on the door (why do they keep doing this?) is a No from me (yes, I know you can put a blind or curtain up to cover it, but why have it in the first place?). The concrete with the painted, finished wall, and wood floor just makes it look like it hasn’t been finished. It’s on the first floor, something I don’t like in apartments. And, the ladder does not inspire confidence to clamber up and down at 3 am when you have to pee. It’s very uninspiring. The best I can say is it doesn’t seem to have the awkward weird angles of an empty space in the corner of some building just being transformed into a “living” space. 🤦‍♀️

I was expecting worse. At least the toilet is behind a door... a door you will need to put some window covering on. Not a fan of all the concrete, and the ceiling in the loft space looks like the building has water issues. Nothing major yet, but just enough dampness to be a problem.
