    Wow, can't believe it. This hobby has come a long way, back when I started 5 years ago, with Josh and Josh from Flitetest, I barely saw any quad pilots, now the MMRC group has over 1000 members, and I'm sure its growing very fast. Thanks for the content and the effort you put into these videos, my friend wants to get into drone racing, but being 14 years old has some serious financial limitations :) it'll be awesome if he could get started like this, and then I'll finally have someone to fly with :D

    been racing rc cars and planes for 30+ years. Have always had a huge interest in drones and drone racing since it came out. in not one to buy a pre build kit but instead picking components that give me the best bang for the buck.
    Your videos have diffently thrust me forward into my infatuation with drones. I've shared your videos with friends to help move them forward with their first builds. Your $99 drone build was amazing! Thank you so much for putting it together and shedding light on how cheap and how easy it is to build a performance drone on a budget.
    keep up the fantastic job!!

    Goooood Daaaaay! So after a long day of work (and a 3 hour train ride home), I turned on my tv, launched RUclips, and see your video on my screen on how to build a $99 drone. Intrigued, I clicked on it and watched ALL of it. Well...4 hours and countless of videos later, I find myself still completely fascinated and somehow oddly subscribed to your channel! lol
    About 2 hours ago, I moved from my tv to my pc---which now has 40 tabs open (across 3 screens) thanks to you--all of which are searching for the components you recommend in your videos to us newbies. You do an amazing job and I would venture to guess you've created many FPV drone hobbyist because of your videos.
    Truth be told, I've been looking to get into the hobby for some time but haven't pulled the trigger...until now. Not for monetary reasons (in fact, I hope somebody who really can't afford one wins your giveaway) but mostly due to work and the long hours (not meant as a complaint, I'm very lucky!). Anyway, I hardly ever comment here but I just wanted you to know that I'm buying two drones based on your recommendations. I'm going to give one to my buddy (for his birthday) so we can throw back a couple of cold ones and break a few props! The only question I'm asking myself now is....should I buy two of the BETTER drones, or should I let him "suffer" with the basic one? :)
    Keep up the GREAT work!
    Sincerely,
    Mex

    Since I could remember technology has been my passion; it really has. The day I discovered drones was the day that passion solidified. I started out, like most people, with relatively inexpensive drones, mini quads, (~$50)and unfortunately have not had the means to successfully enter the drone racing world. There's nothing I want to do now, but race drones and I haven't even had the opportunity to do so. This kit would definitely help me out with the hobby that I know everybody on this channel loves and that I have not had the opportunity to enter for the first 18 years of my life.

      are ur esc's responding to the fc? Try going into BF and testing the motors from there. If that doesn't work, try flashing ur esc's with newer firmware or even with older.

    I've had flying toys all my life. Starting with Christmas helicopters and messing about with them nonstop. As I've got older my interest has only grown for the hobby. But the thing that convinced me that I wanted my own fpv drone was the hubsan x4. Ever since then I've been looking for a way to fly fpv. Lacking the knowledge and resources to build my own ,my love for the hobby has had to live on through the online community. You have been by far the most influential and captivating drone youtuber. I understand you have a huge fan base and if you could give us the equipment all to fly you would but I promise you this drone would not fall into better hands if I were to win! Thanks Team UAV, yous have given me confidence in the cheaper gear and I still cant believe the value. Before watching this I thought we had to spend like 700 plus Australian big ones to have a stable, solid, seat of my chair fun. Was umming and arring about starting in this hobby. But I think I'm liking your lifestyle Stew, and I think I might even make some friends and laugh for the first time in years. Depression hits me hard at times then I watch some of you guys or freestyle quad RUclipsrs in choice locations and I'm blown away. This looks more fun than drag racing, hooning the streets, taking drugs, eating food, Dreamworld, television, PS4's, Scrabble, the list goes on. I'm now passionate and the cogs are turning rapidly in my head as to what to buy first. Saving slowly, about half way there. Thanks Stew and UAVers :-) From Terry :-)

    I'm a bit confused right now. The chart with the specifics of the motors said, that with 14,8V they would draw more than 20 amps and this exceeds the limits of the ESC. Am I missing something, or should your ESC be bursing in flames?

    •  7 лет назад +1

      I was thinking exactly the same. I already ordered the 4x20A AiO ESC, didn't look at the specs beforehand, now I am not sure whether I should order another set of four 30A ESCs or just hope for it not to burst into flames. The 4x20A should be able to handle 25A peak for 10s so hopefully it will be enough.

    • @janrafflewski5468
      @janrafflewski5468 7 лет назад

      I will probably just try it out as well

    • @Bonqiqi
      @Bonqiqi 7 лет назад +2

      That is at maximum thrust. Since your drone should be drone is far lighter than what those 4 motors can lift at maximum thrust, its likely it'll never come close to 20 amps.

    • @vincentwartelle7237
      @vincentwartelle7237 7 лет назад

      Are you sure that 'maximum thrust' -> 'maximum A peak' is related to the weight of the drone ?
      I mean, if you push the thrust lever all the way to the top, we should reach the 23-27A set on the datasheet ?

    • @Bonqiqi
      @Bonqiqi 7 лет назад +2

      There is a video on showing someone testing the current draw along with the maximum thrust of the motor at 50% and 100% thrust. He was showing the propeller size has a effect on current draw. Depending on your propeller choice you could keep the current draw under 20A at 100% thrust.

So back to the fpv drones. I searched around internet how to get one, but i cant decide and im that person who wants to buy it, but don't want to spend money, cause there was so much hard work put into it... but whatching your videos, they prove that race drone racing is so coll! Check the voltage that is outputed by the controller board to motor, if all motor wires output the same voltage, then thoes motors are broken, but if some wires output smaller voltage than others, then your controller board is broken.

      Zach Freeman I think it's hard to say without an OSD telling you either the voltage drop or the current being drawn by the ESCs. It could have been a bad ESC, of course. Do you have the spec sheet for the motors? It should specify the maximum current draw and help you check that it should not exceed the ESC rating.

    I'm blown away, only 200 $$?! Waauw bro! Now I want to get FPV drone racing no shit. I already have shown this video to my mom and she says that she will get a kit like this one for my birthday! I can't wait to get it(but my birthday is on the second of October😢)! Nice vid, keep spreading your knowledge!
    Update: Wait what?! A giveaway omg sheesh! Your my hero xD
    The build has shown me that FPV racing isn't that hard to get into, so I would love to get started. I only got not much money, but now, during vacation, I work for my money. I have shown this vid to my mom😆, and a couple of my friends to haul them over to also buy this. Thanks for doing this, I certainly want to win it.
    Have a nice day

      First off, My drone wont arm even though all the lights turn on and it makes the same beeps and i did the exact same stuff. secondly, I don't know if i'm just stupid or whats happening, but i have no idea how i'm supposed to connect my drone to betaflight... Do you need a cord or something? Cuz I didnt get one

    • @renzevenir4853
      @renzevenir4853 7 лет назад +3

      You have to configure your drone using Betaflight first.

      I've built my drone using the $99 video and have used this one to finish the transmitter portion. I have gotten to the point of giving it power and pairing my Tx/Rx. When I plug in the power I get the initial 3 beeps but I don't get the last three beeps and I don't get any response when using the transmitter. Also, after some work, I can get into betaflight and make changes but I've noticed I don't have an option to "calibrate accelerometer", and the virtual drone on the screen doesn't move. Any ideas to help me? Bad parts, missing a step? I'm stuck.

    • @renzevenir4853
      @renzevenir4853 7 лет назад +1

      Corey Flemming
      It's either bad FC or you flashed the wrong firmware. You have to calibrate your accelerometer on level surface, otherwise it won't arm. Make sure it's level when arming.

      New problem, when I type "version" in the cli of betaflight it says i'm running Betaflight/SPRACINGF3 1.12.0 Jan 11 2016. But that isn't a version that betaflight can run

    Hi Stew
    (Hope I spelled it right) I have to say you are the most inspirational FPV flyer with this channel. I am from South Africa where fpv and drone racing is in it's infant shoes. I am building my first ZMR250 and I was carefully watching to see what I need to buy but this video has shown me that with a tight budget you can still enter this hobby and become a good drone racer. I think one of the misconceptions is that cheap cannot be good, but I think in this case the products that you have featured here shows that there are affordable good quality products out there. For beginners like me this is heaven sent!!
    I am watching your channel like a hawk and I can honestly say that none of the channels I have subscribed to come close to yours, and your collection of drones is awesome. I am sharing this video with potential guys that could help advancing this hobby here in South Africa. I have two work for you!! You Rock!!!
    Kind Regards.
    Wimpie.

    I believe drones are the next milestone on developing mesmerizing machines and aircraft. With your tutorials a lot of people can be part of this at an affordable price, which I really appreciate. I would use your give away to learn more about the system, to start a club in my University that teaches people about the future and to simply enjoy my surroundings in a different more exciting perspective. Thank you!

    Alrighty. I have built the upgrade version and finished a few days ago. Yesterday I had my first two flights. It fly's super great. I am very happy with my build. I added LED's to be able to fly without FPV and added a GPS to be able to track the drone in case I drop it somewhere in the bush. FPV flying seems to be very difficult. At the moment impossible for me. But still a lot of fun. By the way I did not solder the XT60 connection to the PDB. Instead I soldered a cable to it to avoid breaking the PDB in case of crash . Thanks Stew. I am in the drone fever now.

By the way it was super fast on 4S batteries. I finally recorded on my GPS 110 km/h. To all be very careful what you are doing! It is gone very quick :(

    I have owned a few nitro rc helicopters in the past and the transition to flying the drone was rather easy. I have yet to try FPV, but your video has made me take the plunge.
    What had been putting me off was not knowing where to start and what components are required, which motor, speed controller etc would be needed. Your videos have provided enough detail and your description list were really helpful.
    Thanks again, now i just have to wait for a bunch of parts to arrive from China

    I would like to say I love watching your channel and I wish I found you before my first build. I made a Lumenier QAV-R180 the same exact build that drone camps built and the same exact parts to. This was my first build and my boyfriend was already flying so I figured I would build one and we could race and hang out. Well Lumenier saw me coming a mile away $1,316.00 later I had the parts for my drone and 1 battery and a Taranis Plus remote. I went home and watched the build videos and started to put mine together. But I didn't know how to solder so I looked up some videos to teach me. My boyfriend wanted to help but every time I let him help he started to take over the build. So I told him that I want to build the drone all by myself. Then we can race each other to see who built the better drone and who's a better pilot. The build took me about a month to finish because I was working about 80 hours a week. Well when I finished it was so late so I was going to bed because I stayed up for two days to finish the build. Then I was going pretty busy at work that week and didn't have time to see how it flew. So my boyfriend ask if he could test it out he said it was a awesome drone to fly. I said cool I'm glad it fly's good but I'm going to be to busy at work for the next couple or weeks so I check it out when I get a day off. Well I didn't know my boyfriend was going to keep flying my drone and he lost control of the drone and to this day the drone has never to be seen again. My boyfriend keep making up excuses why we couldn't go flying. One day I finally was getting tired of the excuses and he came clean that my drone was gone. Since then I haven't tried to build another drone. Even if I don't win thank you for making a cheap racing drone. Because I was throwing in the towel with drones because that's to much money to say good buy especially if you can't fly it even once. My Boyfriend was definitely in the dog house for a while. Also thank you for all of your giveaways and educational videos.

    You helped me out in picking the right frame and equipment to get started on some freestyle. I originally got a eachine falcon 180, but I didnt realy like the look all that much and after a bit of getting used to took it appart and im concidering modding its look or just getting the goggles you mention on your video, and also one of the frames which im still to pick. That way I could just use the parts I have like Flight controller, reciever which is the one on the video and my new pdb to build a better drone on a better frame.

    i just spent some hours troubleshooting pretty much every problem anyone has talked about online with starting up a home-assembled quad. first thing that happened is that my receiver wouldn't bind it appeared. after the fs-i6 said binding ok, it wouldn't show the voltage of the receiver. you just have to pull the binding jumper out of the receiver and it'll pop up on the transmitter. then i couldn't get betaflight to work on the sp f3. it comes from the manufacturer in cleanflight so you have to download cleanflight. then you can download the spracingf3...hex file of betaflight for your flight controller and use cleanflight to flash the newest betaflight. then you can exit cleanflight and connect to betaflight and do the whole UAVFutures settings. one HUGE thing that happened to me is that after getting betaflight and being able to see the gyro working in betaflight I could not get the sticks to move. i bought the transmitter from amazon and it came with an fs-ia6 which doesn't have ibus(fs-ia6b has ibus). you gotta do PWM which is a little more wiring but you can use the wiring connectors that come with the sp f3 and it'll connect right up. you should look up how to do that on youtube "connect sp f3 with fs-ia6 pwm" or something of the sort. Now if you already followed stew's directions then you probably cut up one of the perfect connectors like i did.

      kev bradz I would still recommend this to a beginner even with the power. I would suggest trying some fpv simulators first. But a lot of cheap ready to fly racers have come out lately that are really good (UAVfutures has done plenty of review videos, check them out) I hope this helps!
