Can Quikrete Liquid Cement Color be added to the Rapid Set Stucco Patch? Are there other products that can be added to the Rapid Set Stucco Patch for coloring? I've been searching for the answers to this, but haven't been able to find the answer. I figured if anybody would know, it has to be you! Thanks for the wealth of information you provide!
You can add a lot of colors, but no doubt won't get the desired color as Rapid Set is tan. You can purchase Lehighs white cement or any other brand of white cement, but if the sand is added, it becomes tan, as the sand is usually brown, thus when mixed with any color you choose. this must be considered. I bought white cement and white sand, then added color for the basecoat which was never to be painted a few years back in the town of Sonora on two homes. This takes practice and material knowledge. But sure it can be done. My son Jason did this in a short video two weeks ago to get a blueish basecoat, then did a light blue finish on the same day. 👨🏫 He, too, is an SME subject matter expert. Cheers. 👨🏻🔬
Hey Kurt you are the expert so I want to know what strength weld Crete do I put on smooth painted cement patches they did previously for repairs on a dash finish stucco I want to dash over the smooth ...do I dilute the weld Crete?
Good evening Johhny, I recommend you do as the can says. Us professional plasterers who have been plastering for more than twenty-five years know when to dilute the bonding agent, but this is only when color cating a home, I dont advise folks to dilute unless they are licensed plastering contractors. @@StuccoPlastering Thank you very much I know from experience dashing texture on there over a smooth painted cement it will fall right off also does that bondex acrylic fortifier they sell at home depot does that work like the larsen's or is it considered just a fortifying agent
Good evening Johhny, acrylic fortifying agents are not bonding agents. Home Depot sells Quikrete bonding agent it adheres concrete to concrete up to one inch thick is a good substitute, maybe even stronger as Quikrete wrote the book on concrete and cement plastering and their products. I prefer Weldcrete by lawsons as it has a solid reputation for so many years, but it is sold at only the plastering yards, I also like Weldcrete as it's blue in color, this is a big help, as you can see if an area was missed. Good evening Gareth dude, sorry for the late response but when these questions come in is out of my hands. After pressure washing when the blocks are dried is when you paint on the bonding agent. If your blocks walls were never painted no bonding agent would have been necessary as the stucco would adhere with what we call a natural mechanical bond. This happens when you hit the existing block walls with water then apply stucco, the two adhere by suction as they are both cementitious. Good evening Oscar Dude, I have stucco massive homes that were in movies and on covers of magazines, some of the homes were over 10,000 square feet, this is considered large for homes. I now mainly stucco for enjoyment and to teach others, via this channel. Peace love and happiness to all Bringing Plastering tips to the world, via RUclips Video
Howdy Bigguy, you'd have to pressure wash your existing wall, then apply a bonding agent, now a new color coat can be applied to whatever finish you want. However, If your current texture is heavy or thick a skim coat would have to be applied also, before a finish coat. Live long and plaster Answers to life’s stucco and plastering questions

My neighbor hired someone to fix cracks in her stucco. Why the hell was that guy using tar to fix it? When they are stucco mixes that can easily be used. And trying to paint that. Yeah right. After watching your and Mike Haduck videos. I did my own cement and stucco, and it came out pretty good. Considering I never done that before. She should have come to me to fix it.
Howdy Lord Dude, well if I were to take a guess, that fella may have supposed that since tar works on certain roofs and chimneys to prevent water from penetrating, he possibly felt it would work on the walls. I too have been guilty of doing some goofy shit in my younger days. Live long and plaster, Sharing stucco secrets and or common sense tips
Howdy Chris Dude, excellent question, Depends. when applying all dark colors weather acrylic or cementitious, the darker the color the more varied color's will become visible. Why? Another excellent question, glad you asked. Say, for example, you pour Clorox on blue jeans it's a similar situation. If the colors start to cure or harden, water becomes necessary to bring out the sand, thus the variation of colors can happen, especially when doing patchwork, that means a color patch within a complete wall. This is more likely with crappy acrylics than others. It's best to keep your sponge float as dry as possible through the entire process, however, when re-coloring patches within a finished wall, it's a whole new ballgame. When the tie in perimeters become dry, a plasterer has no choice but to dip the sponge float into the water to bring it back to life to blend in, welcome to possible streaking. Howdy Jose, good question my brother, a plastic float can do two things, act like a hard rubber float and compress the base coat or provide a certain finish. A sponge float pulls the sand to the surface, this is what the first plastering company used, thus I have to match their finish. Live long and plaster, Sharing stucco secrets and or common sense tips
You my friend can use any tape you wish. For us the blue tape is for interiors as when water touches it, it come off. The red or most vinyls resist the water that's in all mixed stuccoes or plasters.
Red tape is alot better for stucco....it doesn't tear and is more resilient Stucco scratches, tears and rips blue tape...as well as the trowel....plus adhesion is alot better In any trade you see what they use and know their is a reason for it and youll soon find out why Blue tape doesn't like water either

Kirk I have really enjoyed many of your videos! I recently used Rapid Set mortar mix down here in Georgia on a hot humid summer day for repair a spot that was bulging. Wow, that stuff hardened soooo fast. Even when I watered it down. Think it was cause hot summer time? Next time I will not use rapid set.
Howdy Kevin, there are many Rapid set materials including the cement all that hardens 3 times as fast as the Rapid set stucco, I skim coated a wall once with thier Cement All to see if I could, I was able to but had to hustle like crazy.
These Rapid set products take some time in to learn about the set times, for quick same day repairs and painting they are worth the time in.

Kirk, Awesome video sir , you make it look so EZ, I think I can do it....hahahahah, I just may take on a patch at home .
Hi Kirk, for an acrylic finish is there any quick way (or method/products available) to apply scratch & brown coats same day while preserving benefits of strength & Ph using traditional 48 hr + 28 day cures. Application is for room addition & Primer & Acrylic coat would be applied within week of scratch/base. Thanks in advance.

Kirk Giordano Plastering
Kirk, I've got a twenty five year old straw bale house in New Mexico, gutters fell off, so the rainwater comes off the eaves onto the north side buttress walls, one caved in. Any insight into water sheeting, besides the after application of silicone based water avoidance? I'd like to do this ONCE!
Howdy dude, follow the advice in this video and choose to have an acrylic stucco applied, this stucco is water proof.
Best wishes,

Teaching do’s and don’t of plastering and stucco work
Hey Kirk I have an old block house and I wanna stucco it myself should I pursuer wash and then put on a bonding agent after? I was just wondering if I need to use the Bonding agent so it will stick the the old painted block or if I can just stucco it after I wash it please help thank you
Good evening Gareth dude, sorry for the late response but when these questions come in is out of my hands.

Do you just work on small houses and walls or do you work on big houses as well?
Good evening Oscar Dude, I have stucco massive homes that were in movies and on covers of magazines, some of the homes were over 10,000 square feet, this is considered large for homes.
These days I no longer wish to work with to hire 10 or more men but instead with my family, so no more big homes, I've paid my dues with about 40 years in this trade.
I now mainly stucco for enjoyment and to teach others, via this channel.

How do I change a Spanish textured stucco to a smooth finish? What tools are recommended.
Thanks,
Howdy Bigguy, you'd have to pressure wash your existing wall, then apply a bonding agent, now a new color coat can be applied to whatever finish you want.
However, If your current texture is heavy or thick a skim coat would have to be applied also, before a finish coat.

Will the color streak when using a wet float?

What brand rapid set u use ?
Howdy Alfred, excellent question, as there are so many,
at the beginning of this video, I show the product
Its called Rapid Set Stucco mix.
Some stores sell it in 10 or 25-pound boxes, or it comes in 25-pound bags for larger jobs too.

Kirk ARENT YOU SUPPOSE TO USE THE PLASTIC FLOAT FOR ACRYLIC
Howdy Jose, good question my brother, a plastic float can do two things, act like a hard rubber float and compress the base coat or provide a certain finish.
A sponge float pulls the sand to the surface, this is what the first plastering company used, thus I have to match their finish.

Why red tape..can I use blue painters tape?
You my friend can use any tape you wish. For us the blue tape is for interiors as when water touches it, it come off.
The red or most vinyls resist the water that's in all mixed stuccoes or plasters.
Red tape is alot better for stucco....it doesn't tear and is more resilient
Stucco scratches, tears and rips blue tape...as well as the trowel....plus adhesion is alot better
In any trade you see what they use and know their is a reason for it and youll soon find out why
Blue tape doesn't like water either

Wait a minute you're going to cut off the video before you show it completely dry and blended in that's the most critical part darn it we know it's not flawless but we need to see you what a true professional can do
Howdy Noblsht, I agree, however, if it's dry, cool beans if it's not when we leave, bummer.
Standing around watching paint dry for possible two more hours is not financially wise for me, so we usually show current results right before we depart.
FYI, This color matching did come out much better than I thought it would.
