In Class with Carr, Ep. 202: "Do We Know What It Means To Be Free?"

  • Опубликовано: 11 сен 2024
  • US white nationalists and market capitalists define “freedom” as the ability to pursue individual goals without state or social restraint. Renewed assaults on basic administrative and frameworks of US and international social structures and “norms” continue to stress individual and small group interests without regard to impact on larger communities and our common humanity.
    What are the costs of trying to execute these narrow ideological agendas? How do or should we think about “freedom” in our Governance formations and the Social Structures that influence them and in which they persist? As we continue our collective effort to enter 2024 with renewed energy and vision, we take a moment early on to pose the question: What does it mean to be “free,” especially for oppressed people and groups?

    This was brilliant as par. So many gems.💎🔥 We have all we need and more then we need. I love this topic. I was just talking about this on my live. Learning to be joyful 🥰 in giving. When I just got 3 pairs of sneakers. I don't even wear sneakers often at all. So I gave 2 away and kept 1. We have all the skills we need to do what our ancestors did and epigenetically we are flawless. 💜👑💜 Highest heart love and gratitude Dr. Carr and Professor Hunter. Love to all of knubia.💚🙏🏾

    My heart is jumping from looking at y'all talking about the Low Country SC. A bunch of family members are going back to SC for Memorial Day to pay homage to our ancestors. Most 9f us are coming from Delaware but we are meeting up with our cousins who live in from NY, GA, DC, SC we are going to a Gullah Geechie festival and our family members burial grounds. I'm trying to encourage my mother who is 89+ to go with us but she says she doesn't want to go cause everyone is gone and she is having health challenges but I pray she comes with us. I'll keep y'all posted. Peace from Wilmington DE

    Karen Hunter I must challenge you on your observation 'we shouldn't work just to work'. We work to survive, to eat, to shelter, to earn the right to medical care. Please remember you are speaking from a certain level of financial independence that a lot of your viewers don't possess. That being said I don't doubt your sincerity. You're allowed at least one tone deaf statement a year.

    • @MooreVoicesMedia
      @MooreVoicesMedia 7 месяцев назад

      She's accurate.
      She understands that you have to work for all the things that you stated in your second sentence. The next self observation is "how" are you working to survive, to eat, to shelter, to earn the right to medical care? It is customary to pick employment that is not destined for you, clock in, check out mentally, clock out. She is simply asking for your work to have some form of activism or destination outside of the actual money that lands in your account.
      I will use myself as an example. I am a professional box truck delivery driver and a voice actor/audiobook narrator.
      While driving, I either listen to music to heal, The Karen Hunter Show to learn my next network contact, or talk to friends/family that can help me improve my vision to improve my current situation on top of the money that is going to hit my account in a pay period.
      As a professional voice talent and audobook narrator, instead of simply using my voice because it is gifted and it sounds good in a multiplicty of genres, I was ADAMANT and INTENTIONAL at the start of my careeer that I would be narrating content that was afrocentirc and/or spiritual in nature. It goes from just cashing these checks to the mindset behind the money keeping from "just working to work."
      None of us should do that, at any financial level, PERIOD.

    14:04 Can’t blame the President for all of that. How about people hold companies accountable for how they’re not paying people enough to live, & developers building homes & apartments that aren’t affordable for most Americans, & stores back & forth prices with groceries (& gas), & lack of taxing paying from the super rich.

      It's shared. Federal and state policies determine "how bad" capitalism is going to hurt you and then the private sector implements it, whether you voted for it or not. You are right. It is more comprehensive, however, government and private sector work in tandem.

    38:00 HBCU'S dont serve Black people as a group. DuBois was on point. Collective vision and purpose should be the goal but it isnt. Individual achievement can not be seen as a substitute for group progress. Dr. Amos Wilson said the only progress is group progress.
