    Rebuttal:
    -A sit down mower gives the legs a break since you are walking with a trimmer and blower quite a bit.
    -A sit down mower allows you to feather the deck a lot easier when going over bumps and such so you don’t scalp
    -A sit down mower can handle hills far better
    -A sit down mower actually tears up the turf LESS when doing maneuvers because the engine weight is over the wheels. On a stander the drive wheels don’t have much weight over them so they spin out far easier and tear up the grass.
    -although it’s less convenient on a sit-down, you can still blow down pavement from the mower. Either use a handheld blower with one hand, or use a backpack. You wear but let it rest on top of the seat.
    I’ve used both and kind of hate the standers. However I don’t begrudge people their opinions and glad you’re liking them!

      I know this is not true for everyone. I have severe lower back pain. I have wondered for awhile now whether or not a stand on mower would be better or worse for me. I know for some people with certain back problems a traditional riding zero turn is better. So have you noticed less mornings of not wanting to get out of bed? That is my biggest problem. Both hard to go to sleep and hard to get up after sleeping.

      glad i found this video. this is where i'm at right now, 57yrs with spinal stenosis, digen. disc disease with 7-8 bad/thin discs(lumbar/mid back/neck, and arthritic spine. my riding lawn mower 38" residential beats me up now, dread mowing (hell, any kind of yardwork now) but i have to do it, don't need commercial gear, only residential that is comfortable, light, and not have to bend over at a slight angle or major angle for prolonged periods of time. i thought about the stand on, then again, just modify my spring seat suspension and seat itself. i've never tried a stand on, too much money anyways for .3acre home lot. the only new riding mower i found to be most comfortable so far is a jd-s140 and up into x models. believe it or not, the murray m200 i found to be very comfy as well, i'm also intrigued by for some strange reason. maybe a used older stand on? don't want a zturn. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks.

      @@HexaFox i'm right there with ya bud, very hard to get up and sleep is a 50/50, sometimes ok/good, sometimes not, kills my energy too, very limited with it, weather affects it as well, every day is different not knowing what to expect, some days good, some not and just wanna stay in bed and that's why i'm hesitant about making commitments, some people don't understand and quick to label you as lazy and unreliable. half of my issue is damage, the other half is hereditary. protect your spine people.

    • @HexaFox
      @HexaFox 3 дня назад

      @@jimjam1719 This is exactly the way I feel. I have bad days and good days and never can tell. I have noticed that taking over the counter NSAIDS can really help me get a good nights sleep by relieving the pain. However, I try not to rely on them too often because of the problems they can cause long term. I grind the hell out of my teeth at night and trying to learn to wear a mouth guard. So yeah it can be pretty miserable. Anyway I saw your comment about using residential mowers and do not take this the wrong way but that is a mistake. I have had both and now that I have moved to a commercial Ferris mower I will never ever go back. The only downside is that if I had to replace my setup now it would cost about $15,000 which is hard to swallow. Anyway my backup mower is a Craftsman zero turn and whenever I have to get something done with the Ferris I hate life using the Craftsman. The Craftsman only goes about half the speed of the Ferris while mowing and you feel every single bump. I can mow much faster on the Ferris and I do not feel anywhere near the bumps on it. It is literally a night and day difference. I also just saw you didn't necessarily want a zero turn. Ferris' patented suspension system also applies to their other mowers but I am not sure how good it is. For instance, my zero turn has four large springs on it and I believe the stand on version only has one spring between the operator platform and machine. I have been on one but not long enough to know if there is a difference. It may even be more comfortable since you are standing and the spring absorbs bumps from the machine so the operator does not feel them but I have no clue.

    I used a stander for a couple days when one of our sit down machines was down and the dealer loaned us a stander for the time being. I really liked having the elevated view of the deck, and it was definitely fun and different to use. Both have their pros and cons, but I’d still prefer a sit down for the most part. But I’d love to have a stand on for those properties that are too big for a walk behind, but too small for a big commercial rider.

    I have a Wright Stander B 52'' and a Exmark Lazer Z 60'' (sitter). Overall, like my stander. The footprint of it is way smaller, nimble and light. Standing takes way less of a beating on your back.(unless your running a Ferris sitter with 300 lbs of coil over shocks) Sitters have some big plusses including deck feathering, able to hug hills and overall more stable maneuverability. Getting at your hydros, fluids and maintenance items are generally much easier on standers which holds a lot of value to me. They both have different/unique applications. End of the day, run what makes you happiest!

    My lawn is on the fringe of being too large for me to mow without a break, it’s roughly 1/3 of an acre Ranch/Rambler style city lot built in the 1950s and I can hit it with my walk behind Toro in about an hour and a half, 2 hours if I take a brief rest before hitting the backyard. (Backyard is Buffalo, front is Bermuda, so I never do both on the same day unless my schedule rotation overlaps)
    I’m confident that a standing mower would make that like an hour shorter, but at my age (29) I tend to enjoy the work/energy it takes to do that every few days during warm season. It might be a different story in a decade or two though, so I’m just enjoying it while I can.

I can have a square pail between my legs and a branch trimmer with too, all easily accessible. If you sit, there are fewer branches to duck for and trim. I have 74 years on my feet. A little plantar fasciitis goes a long way towards wanting a suspension seat and not stand some more. I dont stand on my golf carts, cars, motorcycles, nor do I stand watching t.v. or car races or movies or auctions. There are a few good reasons for standing but not enough of them.

    Stand on’s are only good for smaller and tighter areas. Idk why people would want to stand up on a mower when they have to mow a 5 acre field. And second when you live in the south you get more rainfall which causes grass to grow faster and thicker stand on mowers do not have a lot of horsepower. Them hustlers will go fast in a parking lot but once you start cutting it bogs down. You literally have to raise the deck all the way up to keep it from bogging down. Just my opinion.
