Last night played 4 long games in a row, with the same squad leaders, same commander, and my own squad members. The game really really REALLY shines on those moments. Team work. Makes the dream work
Supply drops can be put in some “out of bounds” places, on roofs, inside inaccessible courtyards and in rivers. Look for greyed out areas on urban maps. Really helpful if you have a pain in the ass recon on the other team that keeps finding your supplies.
As someone who's recently gotten into the commander role, this helps immensely. Preciate your input. Never really thought about using half-tracks as efficiently as you do.
You can also use them as attack garrisons that never get locked. However I'd advice against this unless you have surplus fuel AND a secure way to get into enemy territory.
“Tell your Blueberries to not think…to not take initiative” Oh my hell, that made me laugh way to hard, but its true! This is also the type of content that will get me to support your RUclips, definitely want to see more of this.
Really like the new format. I'd been wishing there was a youtube video doing play-by-play analysis of the commander role. Excited to learn new strategies!
Awesome video! Just a few things I would have done differently. 1. Communicate with squad leaders about things that probably have no relevance to strategy due to map confusion. 2. Place garrison's where enemies could easily find and destroy them. 3. Lead my team to an embarrassing and demoralizing defeat. Other than those I think you did juuuust fine.
I always drop supplies right in the beginning behind enemy lines. They normally do not see them. This is a simple way, to build later in the game a perfekt attack garrison.
90% of the effectiveness of command is having SLs that actually cooperate... Things that this match had that I often don't... SLs recommending options for garrison, established defensive squads that don't just leave... And SLs that try to replace removed garrisons... Those three things alone mean the commander can actually deploy real tactics and really help the team.
8:32 red zone garry locks within 100m, this seems a bit too close, I would drop it more in the corner of C5 sector, so you can both attack from there and have next garries there for the attack.
Thank you. I usually end up playing squad leader when everyone sits in the new game lobby waiting for someone to make a squad, so I'll eventually have to learn Commander under the same circumstances lmao
Very helpful video, always good to see some POV. What I have trouble with as commander is half the games I get in (besides Remagen), random enemies are already killing me in my supply truck by the time I'm trying to place my 2nd or 3rd garrison myself. Ofc I ask squad leaders to help build them and designate some to do so, but sometimes they never do. The games I have the toughest time are the ones I can't get up garries myself sometimes. A video or tips on how to deal with enemy AT or recons picking off the commander while driving supply trucks/half tracks in the back line could be useful.
I'd say switching the location of where you spawn the halftrack, for example. If you're getting killed on mid-hq, move somewhere else. Also, I've found one of the best ways to get people to do what you need is for example "Hey there's a full squad in D6 camping everything that leaves HQ. I can't help you if we don't deal them and we won't be able to attack with enemies constantly taking down our only spawns". Basically, explain WHAT is going on, WHY they should help and WHAT they lose if they don't. If I have good attack garrisons and I need squads to defend I'll say "Hey we have really good attack garrisons, we can fall back to attack any time, but if you don't redeploy to defend right now, all that is going to be lost in the next minute. Fall back, defend, let's clear them out and then we can just go back to where we were"
Love your videos Mono, they are very helpful. I wish more people would spend time studying tactics and procedures in this game. - I tend to be less mobile than you and drop supplies more frequently. I'll drop them into locations that are well behind the front lines. They are basically unusable at the time of the drop, but are ready for use when we advance. That technique works most of the time, as the enemy isn't looking for them that far back. Keep the vids coming my friend, and maybe we'll cross paths in the game -=ROAD-KiLL=-
Yeah, I drop supplies in advance deep into enemy territory as well. However as commander, if you're not moving or inside a cap sector that's being attacked or defended, you are losing a lot In some maps (Remagen/PHL) I will use artillery as commander and rely more on Squad Leaders for garrison placement.
I really like these videos. I just started playing on console, and I'm finding a lot of games with no commander. So, I would hop in as commander and listen to the more experienced players. Hopefully, I won't find myself in that position, but it's better to know for when I do.
Great video, would love to see more of this. Question: Is building with the engineer just a meme since it uses supplies that could be used for garrisons?
As a support player myself i find that - in most matches - you will have supples up more often then you need for the placement of garrisons. So if there are enough supporters just dropping their supplies as soon as they are off cooldown you can actually built a ton of stuff. But for most players they just sit in their inventory and are only used 4-5 times per match when you need a garry :/
Nodes or anything else that the engineer can build should always be secondary to garrisons. Building nodes with a supply truck in the first 2 rows is overrated as you can build nodes with the 100 remaining supplies you drop for each garrison. It is much faster to do this (and cheaper) instead of having an engineer drive a supply truck from base. Unless you are losing 4-1 in the first few minutes, it won't make a difference.
@@monoespacial IMO I don't really like nodes on leftover supply because if we lost the sector we lost those nodes and no supply left for garrison (since the drop from truck is just enough to build 1 blue zone and 1 red zone after). And also if one enemy spot the garry they spot those nodes, with some coordination they'll get satcheled in no time. But overall some nodes are better than none. If I have time as a cmdr I just drop 2 boxes on the 2nd line then go back to resupply. Or even supply drop on HQ.
@@maijaja123 well, of you've got good garrisons you shouldn't be losing the 2nd sector. The game overwhelmingly favors defense due to how spawns work. If you lose that 2nd sector, you just get people to build nodes again. I don't think all nodes should be built that way but you don't need all of them to be built in the first sector either.
@@maijaja123 Can also build in HQ with support supplies before match starts. Normally do this with friends. If you are alone you can also place one down on your own supplies.
Got our ass kicked all game long by a very good team with armor prowess on Foy. After hanging on last point. Called in a airspawn with less than 10 to go, captured N30. High tailed it NW behind Southern Edge to put up a Garrison on some pre dropped supplies. Called in another airspawn NE, redeployed to artillery and layed down smoke for my guys. Took Southern Edge with 1:14 left and won the game.

If I ever consistently get this amount of cooperation on console I’m buying a lottery ticket 😭 biggest difference I’ve seen between the two platforms is that there is so much more cooperation and (useful) communication between SL’s
Depends on the game. Sometimes no one will talk at all except for Panther please or Supplies!! Other times they just talk about random stuff and you can't hear requests sometimes.
I kind of agree with you on the precision strike, because it's definitely very expensive. BUT often it's also very helpful. And if you have all sets of nodes... I almost ever kill the tank with this strike, and often this is very important to defend/ attack a point. You just need a good spotter, who knows when the tank got in a new stationary position. And is there a reason why you don't let them build there nodes in the *I sector* ? It's possible to build a defend garrison around there and drop supplies around. That makes it very easy for them to build nodes in the save sector. But on the other side, it's pretty impressive how you defend the 3rd point. It looks almost impregnable with all the garrisons and halftracks.
Had a game the other day where I knew our commanders experience level at this game. Told my squad he knows more than us so if you want to win just do what he says.
MONO perfect timing. I joined a game a few nights ago, and no one built a garrison first few mins of the match. I'm waiting to spawn in... waiting waiting.... said F IT, ive never been a commander, ive watched mono's videos, lets give it a try!! dropped supplies so a gari can be built when we eventually lose the mid obj. all the squads pass the supplies, and i dont get a gari built till 3 mins after. only a few minutes in, i get teamkilled!! are you Sh!tn me!! Finally some people start asking for stuff, I answer, but not a single squad built their own garrison. I tried re-enforcing, no one went in. no nodes. we got swept so fast. That was my first experience... how awesome!!! probably my last now.. maybe ill try again ha we will see
Maybe at some point. The main way to herd them is by garrison placement. Place flanking garrisons instead of garrisons that offer a straight line to the enemy strong point. Controlling where they can spawn is 99% of what you need to do to get blueberries where you want them.
I tried so many times to tell the blueberries that they need to remain in the active 4 squares to count towards the cap rate. One time someone in the chat said it's any square in the relevant columns or rows... Basically undid all my begging with one indirect comment. Such as essential piece of knowledge and the lack of basic tutorial really lets this down.
Curious why you threw that bombing run at 5:50. Wouldn't you normally want to wait until attacking squads are in position to push the point and capitalize on their garry being down? Seems like would probably have enough time to rebuild it now. Good guide btw, love your videos!
I wasn't looking to cap the next point, I was looking to give my team time to properly set up around SME. We did have a few garrisons but the push from the german side onto the church is a relatively easy one since you can take control of the buildings in front of the church quite easily. Given the location of that garrison was known and it's a position that's far away from the next point they had, chances are after dropping that garrison they didn't have the 3 factors needed to rebuild it: an officer, a support player and the actual intelligence and will to do it. So yeah, it was basically a way to decompress and allow my team to push into that area and gain a foothold south of their next point.
@@monoespacial Nice, never thought about it like that. So it basically allows your team to push up a few hundred metres while the enemy needs to get the garry back up. Makes perfect sense!
@@fitforce07-r8b Keep playign SL. Make sure you're learning from it: Learn garrison placement. Learn how to defend properly (not from inside the strongpoint). A good SL makes a good commander, most of the time.
So basically, Commander = Truck driving simulator 2022? Jokes aside, it does look kinda fun and I want to try it some time. What do we think about a possible new feature where the Commander can have a squad of 1-2 people to act as dedicated logistics support, so the Commander can actually do some shooting every now and then?
I don't specifically work with the recon team to find enemy garrisons. That was something I did in the video because they happened to be where I thought a garrison could be. I don't tend to give squads any specific orders, but if I do, it's mostly based on their current position than anything else. Like "Hey Item squad, could you go back 100m and build a garrison?". That tends to work better than saying "Item squad, please stay on defense". Most squads don't understand that defending means building garrisons and will instead sit inside the strongpoint and wait to get surrounded by the enemy.
@@monoespacial Interesting, my recon searches usually run between offensive and defensive strong point what you did there was definitely something new to the tool kit of game strategy, thank you.
This is really cool I'm glad someone developed this kind of game! Is it possible to play as commander every game? I like Enlisted but man I don't want to pay to win I'd much rather pay to play once
Within Two minutes in the video and I immediately tell this is not HLL public server, or at least your not typical HLL public server. Squad leaders are responding to the commander more frequently and doing commander orders. Not only that but the leadership comms aren't cluttering (They don't talk over each other). I think this is a seeded clan public server.
2:3 of my command roles are the same. It's the reason no one with experience wants to take the role I think, - they can't be bothered to look at the screen, powerless to do anything effective. Then a lvl 20 takes the role and does a weak job.
its really cool this kind of guides, but I think that you should put context to what you are doing, why you drive supplies to does points in particular what you recommend depending on the situation ( defend/attack etc). Estan geniales tus videos Mono!.
@@monoespacial could have muted the vid and just talked over it. In other words edit the video, play it in the background, and explain things as the video goes. Pause it if you need to, and of course cut out parts that don't matter. Maybe include audio in section if it needs it. That's a lot of editing, but i best you could make a quick more efficient video doing so, and comprise it down to like 10 mins
@Rockagamez the entire point of this video and the one I uploaded after it is to show you how often I communicate with the squads, what I tell them and so on. I explained a lot more of my thought process in the next one as I was playing, but the point really is to show commander gameplay. I've done over 10 videos on tactics and strategy, and specific ones on commander abilities and priorities. So those videos are already out there. Also there's no way to compress a 90min match into 10min and have it show what the commander gameplay consists of, I think.
@@monoespacial it was just a suggestion mono. Don't overcomplicate it either. There are very key things people need to understand about commander class, there are a bunch of different things you did you could easily highlight. There's a lot of footage in that vid that is just noise. You think you need to go over every tid bit cause you know what you're doing so you think oh they need to see this, this, that, and that. The reality is there are very important things you can narrow down to highlight when it comes to a "master class". Honestly you need the perfect match where it ebbs and flows for someone to really understand what to do as a commander. A stomping like this over 20 mins like just a small tip on an iceberg
@@rockagamez7704 Here is a map that is back and forth: ruclips.net/video/hvGs3lBK9iY/видео.html Here is the commander video "theory" video: ruclips.net/video/PrSSV-bCSCEm/видео.html Between those 2 videos I think it covers a very comprehensive look at the commander.
Secondary to what else? Commanders are uniquely suited to build garrisons. Squad leaders have an entire squad that depends on them for positioning. If your squad leaders are running around the back line building garrisons, then that's a full squad that is not getting an outpost where they should in order to engage the enemy. The commander on the other hand can build most of the Garrisons you need without doing that sacrifice. That's not to say that squad leaders shouldn't be building garrisons, they absolutely should. But to argue that it shouldn't be the commander's number one priority is entirely wrong.
@@monoespacial Secondary to mapwork and squad management, Right now every game I play everyone is waiting on the Commander to build all the garrisons nobody does any forward thinking which should not be the case. Commander should build back and defensive garrisons while dropping supplies and ordering SL to build garrisons. So its not entirely wrong. The commander should be delegating but not building everything on the map. I see a lot of this and it spoils many people into thinking that the commander will build all of the garrisons and so it is expected and no initiative is taken. Then the commander gets railed because he didn't do enough which is rather unfair.
The way I see it is, the commanders no1 priority is to make sure garrisons are where they need to be. How you achieve that goal is going to depend on a bunch of things. It's it's by building then yourself out by getting others to do it, the objective and the priority is the same.
Not bad, I can offer some changes but over all good. The actual problem try commanding when everyone on your team is new and not willing to use thier mics.
Honestly I'm ready for update dark coming from PS5 I am ready to try out the new air strike the new flare guns and the new night variants in the new tanks can they please hurry up
I got completely sick of playing PC games on console and waiting for them to catch up. I waited 2 years for a fucking Stellaris DLC. finish with that shit, I got myself a rig, a pc, you should too
They need to add a vote system to remove bad commander's I had a commander the other day that was sabotaging the game by removing all our garrisons an like 8 of us were forced to spawn camp our commander so he couldn't keep removing our garrisons it was ridiculous
You’re wasting time driving back just respawn a new supply truck at HQ and just respawn it’s only 100 points? It’ll take 5-6min to drive back reload and drive back just suicide and jump in new truck or just ask people to bring it up to a spawn and park it off side and you can grab it
I'm not wasting time. I'm still doing a ton of things: looking at the map, communicating, etc. I'd rather trade that 100, 200 or whatever fuel for munitions. 100 fuel can be converted to 60 munitions which doesn't sound like a lot but munitions are way more important than fuel, I think. I use that time to think where I actually want to drive the truck next. If there's a free support truck that spawned then yeah, I'll redeploy and grab it.

I had the same problem with the frame rate drop when in a fire fight.
Can you actually explain what your doing when your doing it for a master class video on commander?
Next video is a 4-1 loss to 5-0 on Utah where I do a lot more explaining.
This is awesome people say I suck at commander so hopefully this helps
Are you level X Squad Leader?
@@monoespacial No a level 6
@@fitforce07-r8b Keep playign SL. Make sure you're learning from it: Learn garrison placement. Learn how to defend properly (not from inside the strongpoint). A good SL makes a good commander, most of the time.
Mono, why do you rotate the Garrison before placing it? Does the direction it points affect where the players spawn?
For bonus style points..... Nah, sometimes you gotta rotate it to make it fit where you want it to. Doesn't affect the spawns.
At least precision strike is very cool man
Can you expand on how to find enemy garrisons working with recon?
It's Saucymuffin's server (pub match). You can find this match on my Twitch VODs.
I keep trying to zoom in on the map to see things 😅
omg he's driving and using his iPad at the same time
Finallly i can understand thing about Commander
Whenever I play commander, literally no one responds or does anything useful
2:3 of my command roles are the same.
It's the reason no one with experience wants to take the role I think, - they can't be bothered to look at the screen, powerless to do anything effective.
Then a lvl 20 takes the role and does a weak job.
Wait the recon plane can spot Garrys?????? Or were you just inferring its location based on red dot proximity?
Inferring
@@monoespacial gotcha! Good to know. I've never tried command, but I'm thinking of giving it a go soon
Any server you would recommend on playing? I have been bouncing around and it has been more difficult find more experienced HLL games.
Sucks when your team has great garrisons but get taken down immediately. Gotta protect your garrisons. Too many ppl just run staight to the fight.
"This sucks".
Yeah, the turret on a half-track looks like a 360 ring but it has like 15 degrees of rotation. It's awful.
Omg. A command chat where everyone isn't screaming and joking around??
its really cool this kind of guides, but I think that you should put context to what you are doing, why you drive supplies to does points in particular what you recommend depending on the situation ( defend/attack etc). Estan geniales tus videos Mono!.
I will talk more next time i play commander and go over.my thought process.
@@rockagamez7704 Here is a map that is back and forth: ruclips.net/video/hvGs3lBK9iY/видео.html
Here is the commander video "theory" video: ruclips.net/video/PrSSV-bCSCEm/видео.html
Between those 2 videos I think it covers a very comprehensive look at the commander.
Commanders setting up Garrys should be secondary to everything else. SL should be setting up garrys recently the lack of good SL has been noticeable.
I play command a lot big thing dont place flamking garisons, idiots will all span and leave the point
Well played !
What in-game name do you use?
Same as the channel: monoespacial
Nice mono thanks a lot ;)
Great teaching tool
Honestly I'm ready for update dark coming from PS5 I am ready to try out the new air strike the new flare guns and the new night variants in the new tanks can they please hurry up
I got completely sick of playing PC games on console and waiting for them to catch up. I waited 2 years for a fucking Stellaris DLC. finish with that shit, I got myself a rig, a pc, you should too
7 months between updates had been the norm
Ammo drop is to distract more than to help tbh
Love this
More good stuff
They need to add a vote system to remove bad commander's I had a commander the other day that was sabotaging the game by removing all our garrisons an like 8 of us were forced to spawn camp our commander so he couldn't keep removing our garrisons it was ridiculous
F yeah. 🤙🔥
This game is so photorealistic that any other game I play seems cartoony or plastic. Thank you HLL for ruining any other game for me! =)
NOICE!
The Commander should not be doing all the hard work ;)
How is this a „masterclass“? You hardly explain stuff, you don’t really annage squads, a lot of your garris are getting taken out…
