this is a great decision, no child or teacher should ever walk back into that building and be reminded of what happened all over again. this is all too distressing. my continued prayers and thoughts go to the families and friends who have been affected by this. ♥️

The location where the school is should be turned into a memorial garden with a fountain. I don’t blame the kids and staff for not ever wanting to set foot in the school again. My heart and prayers go out to the families of those who lost their lives especially the kids and my thoughts and prayers go out to those who were hurt and survived. The cops who refused to act right away should be ashamed of themselves.

You would make that decision with input from the property owner right? I sure hope so. They're not tearing down the school because the President said it should be torn down, but because he got the sense the community was haunted by it. And had a discussion about it. How do you even turn a building into a memorial if nobody wants to go inside? Abandoned buildings are perfect places for break-ins and all sorts of crime to take place.

This is impossible for me to grasp. I grew up on a farm. I went to grades 1-8 in a little country school in 1965-1973. There was no A/C, only swamp coolers. when it was hot all the doors and windows were open. Back then anyone could walk onto the school grounds or classrooms with no questions asked. There were no fences. Nobody had ID. The principal was one of the bus drivers. There was no police department. Only one sheriff's deputy would ever be anywhere near the school. People had morals and values back then. It was like something out of The Waltons. I can't believe how things came to this.

Plenty of dangerous schools in the 1960s and 1970s. That said, there are millions more guns in circulation now, making the sleepiest suburbs, farm towns, unremarkable small cities as ripe for catastrophic violence as large cities with notable crime-ridden neighborhoods.

An AR-15 round has to much velocity and range to use in such a crowded environment. I have a 9mm handgun loaded with hollow point rounds for home defense. And sadly, because of tragedies like this, I have started concealed carrying. I didn't used to feel the need to do that. Tragedies like this are not cause by guns, they are caused by a complete breakdown of moral values in our society. Notice that almost every single one of these tragic shootings is done by a teenager, not by an old guy like me, that was raised with proper morals and values, and knowledge of the difference between right and wrong.

Dreaming Dreamer I agree with you 100%. Also...I looked it up (about Sandy Hook) to make sure I had the info correct. The shooting _there_ happened 12/14/2012. They wanted to build another school _elsewhere,_ but it was going to cost too much money, so they demolished the old school (where the massacre took place) and built a _new_ school on the same land. Construction began on the new school 3 & a half years after the massacre. They elected _not_ to have any kind of memorial in the _new_ school about the tragedy in the previous/demolished school. They completed the new school on a budget of $50 million.
I think an on-sight memorial, honoring both teachers and all 19 children would be a beautiful addition to the new school in Uvalde, however I admit I'm concerned about how it would/might be a constant reminder to the children attending the new school, many of them who were _directly_ affected (survivors) by the tragedy last week. My heart was _already_ broken in a million pieces when I first found out about the massacre in Uvalde, but my heart absolutely shattered a few days later when the story came out about 11 year old Miah Cerillo who was in the classroom and smeared the blood of one of her friends, onto herself to pretend _she_ was dead, _too._ It's so disturbing knowing that we live in a world where an _11 year old_ would even need to think to do _that._

Emotional stand point, it's reasonable to destroy the school.
Logically, why? That's teachers and support staff that just lost their jobs. Small towns/ cities at most have two to three elementary school with limited space for those education staff that are now out of jobs. The logistics for the school board to have to add more buses to shuttle the students to other schools will be a nightmare. Only upside is the funding for the school board will be divided between less school buildings.
