Cheers guys! - As I said to Tomakazi when I first heard this song I did t like it but after a few listens I realised the message and the genius of the instrumentation portraying the message. At the start there is a consistent drone underpinning the music which symbolises the shadow of our inevitable death which is evident right from the moment we are born. - The extended musical bridge with different patterns and instruments which symbolises the twists and turns and experiences over a human lifetime. Then the final lyric “Arrive alive” which essentially says meet your death without regret and take pride in a life well lived. The deep harmony is done by Marko. Tuomas wrote the album HumanNature as a record for the singers and you can hear tight three bar harmony all the way through by Floor,Marko and Troy. - the album was recorded prior to Markos resignation from the band
Hey Souls. This is a song that has grown on me more and more with every listen. Pretty piano work and Troy with the nice vocals and instrumental work. I loved it and I really enjoy you guys reacting from the standpoint of musicians. Fun stuff. Someone asked Troy what he can't play. And he said "hockey".
Thanks for the reaction Souls! Here is an example of a Nightwish song that gets better every time you listen. You'll find new great details in it every time. The song has hints of some of the other Nightwish songs, although the song is definitely not typical Nightwish. In my opinion, the best part of the song is the instrumental part in the middle of the song. Troy's vocals also work great here. A great folk-style song that deserves more appreciation.
Catchy pop-folksy song. Sounds "happy" but with an underlying haunting vibe, which makes perfect sense when you realize that it's the Grim Reaper doing the harvest. It would be grand if Troy sang this song in 'is noathen önglish accent. Imagine this: "Join t' ahvest of oondred fields ahty an' tehm, all gowin' back to woon single grehn, offah leyt teh coomin' deh, inspeye a cheyld, watah t' field, soorendah teh ööth." Brutal folk metal!🤘
Heres a decent Fan cam recording of Harvest in Amsterdam just to take a look at. It really comes Alive when done Live. And Floor gets to sit down and take a little rest. ruclips.net/video/miRzH5ecEIM/видео.html
This is why I love NW. There is so much variety in their music yet maintaining their NW sound. Even if you're not sure about any song at first, just listening to it few times it ends up in your heart.
This is during the Marko era. Usually low notes are Troy. He played whistles and pipes on this one. It's a grower for so many people. Initially the comments are this isn't Nightwish but then it is !!
This song was sadly smashed in the comments when this came out on Nightwish page...sad because it just shows Tuomas remarkable way of writing beautiful music. It's not easy for Troy to do this live, singing and playing those pipes. In Finland we have every summer a wife carrying contest, check that out, it's a world champion contest, quite funny :) the one who wins the world championship gets beer according to his wife's weight....
Also listen to and watch the Live in a Virtual World 2021 version. My favorite is the instrumental part, especially Tuomas on keys. There was one funny comment: "My neighbours love this song so much that they threw a brick at my window to hear better!"
The credits have Floor on backing vocals for this song. Marko was still with the band when the album was recorded. Yes, it was played at the virtual show. Jukka was with them then. About mankind switching to farming from hunter/gatherers. Descending from a single grain- a lot of crops( corn ,rice, etc) descend from grasses.
Except it's not about any real crops or farming at all. It's about the human lifecycle from birth to death. The single grain is the origin of life, humans are the crops, and death is doing the harvesting.
Another fantastic song - and well done by Troy. Credit to Tuomas. Good example how Floor helps Troy to shine. Never overpowering. The more listen to the song - the more you will like it.
The original vision Tuomas had for Nightwish was Acoustic Folk & this song has that “feel”. It is also the perfect 1st song on the Human:||:Nature album as the theme is intertwined throughout the album. Listen to the whole album in song order - awesome! There is also links to previous songs /albums. All from the mind of the Musical Maestro Tuomas H!
🇫🇮 ❤Greetings from Finland. To really appreciate this deep song, you should know that like any great poetry Tuomas' lyrics in this song lend themselves to many interpretations. In case you and/or anyone else should be interested, I think that the lyrics are a message from death to mankind & Troy is in fact death personified who sings them. It contains a reminder that death inevitably waits for us all (i.e. we are death's harvest), but also advice on how to live our lives to the fullest ("Offer light to the coming day") taking care of one another, our children and our planet for generations to come ("Inspire a child", "Water the field"). For me, verse 1 is death personified telling that once we are born ("Tiny valorous straw") we will also die, but between birth and death we have time to live as death "will pause before a man whose path has just begun" a life and make something of it while approaching death ("Something unsung our way comes"). Verse 2 tells that nature teaches us that every living thing must die (The quaternary code is a structure shared by all DNA, and yes, misspelled in the lyrics) , and death is always present ("The strange peace of storm hovers over crops"), although as children, we don't realize it or worry about it ("And a child's face aglow before the scythe"). The chorus tells us that humans are no exception but all living species face the same destiny ("Join the harvest of hundred fields") in death ("All going back to one single grain"). However, we should live our lives to the fullest without fear of death ("Offer light to the coming day") & inspire the next generation to do the same ("Inspire a child") while taking care of our planet ("Water the field") before we die, i.e. "surrender to the earth". For me verse 4 is difficult to interpret, but I think that it tells us that although we could enjoy life to the fullest ("They have beauty beyond all poetry"), we tend not to do so ("But choose a silent misery"). And the more we let that happen ("The deeper their sea"), the less there is to enjoy ("The less remains"). There are also those that try to control how we live our lives ("They'll find the pretty words and tame flocks to herd"), but we can choose to resist and enjoy our lives to the fullest ("a carousal of dare") Finally "Arrive alive" means that one should live his/her life to the fullest (i.e. be alive) before it's time to die (i.e. arrive to life's destination in death). P.S. It could also be that the 5 crosses that one sees in the lyrics video refer to the five stages of man's life: conception, birth, life, death & decomposition. Others have also interpreted them as the other five members of Nightwish among whom Troy walks in the video, although why would just Troy be alive & the others dead? P.S.S. It also helps to know that in one interview Tuomas told that this song is "Nightwish smiling at death".
Well, Troy is like a secret weapon of Nightwis in this Criminally Underrated song from Human :II: Nature album. If memory serves,...The low part is done by Troy, middle part is Marko (at least I have never heard Marko going so low in his singing) and high's is Floor. Lighthearted song but it has serious message. NWSU 🤘😎🤘.
Haha, this is different, and a little divisive surprise at that time. Lion King meets Jethro Tull with a quite deep message. I like it, some don't. ⛄❄👍 (and the low harmonies provided by the bassist Marko Hietala)
This is from their newest album Human :II: Nature, Marko was still playing the bass. Some people dislike this song because it's sounds like Toto or something but I love it. 😎 Can you watch and react to Battle Beast - Black Ninja (official video)?
owh I missed this one! This is one of my favorite songs, ehm.....well no they all are awesome, but I love the celtic/folky sound and folk metal part. Our roots. Very deep beautiful song about death and my funeral song, one day when I arive alive❤
In the old days...Mozart and Beethoven....they kinda wanted recognition in their own time. I'm absolutely sure Tuomas WILL be praised after our short time here...and he doesn't care about it! He wants ppl to think and to enjoy his music rn. It's just one more magic to NW. I think this pale blue dot would be so much better place if we all could just....u know...realize the fact that the harvest will ultimately come to us all, but what to do before it will affect everything for the future generations

@@frank1963 Have to agree, this album overall was not that good, too poppy and soft. NW has sadly fallen out of my top 20 now, more into some little-known Serbian and Finnish bands.
