Suprisingling even though it is called the tyrant of the sands Diablos is really just an aggressive herbivore but hey that's the way it lives and we don't question it.
KaShawn Williams I love Diablos’ ecology more than almost any other monster. Plenty of the most dangerous (to humans) creatures in their environment are herbivores - like the Cape Buffalo, or the hippopotamus - not because they want to eat you, because they want to end you and everything you love
Herbivores are usually more territorial than carnivores since just about everything represents either a direct threat or competition. Especially in a desert environment where large animals would find suitable food scarce. Makes sense that Diablos would aggressively attack anything and everything.

Yep. Predators will usually only pick a fight if they think they can get an easy meal without risking getting wounded (or if they think their children are in danger). Big herbivores will assume you're a threat and immediately proceed to make you not a threat anymore.

@@Mattno.777 there is no better option. Just fight with whatever you are comfortable with.
If you cut the tail and break off the horns, you'll decrease the range of the attacks, so it's always a good idea to CUT THE TAIL.
On that note, climbing and mounting is a great way to avoid the worst of a Diablos bull or cow's attacks. Their tells for tossing you off are very similar to their normal attacks. So focus on the front for KO/Impact damage, or get on the tail to cut the tail.
I just need more tailcases, mate.
Best way to avoid Diablo's dig:
Run in a wide circle.

If he's coming at you, running perpendicular to where he dug will cause him to miss by a mile.
How about miss by a mile into a backwards slash and a dishonorable phial discharge (charge blade POV)

If you're a hunting horn main (yeah, all 3 of you), you can use a horn from the Vespoid Tree for both the paralysis damage and the Sonic Waves melody that it comes with. Just keep Sonic Waves stocked and play it as soon as you see it start digging into the ground. It'll work just like a screamer pod and bring it back out and get it stuck. Unlike the screamer pod, you can't run out so every dig is just free damage for you and your party.
Or foresight slash it using long sword
gondeaz shadow I think you missed the point if this my man. Sonic waves would act like a flash pod, basically GUARANTEEING a nice large window of opportunity for yourself (and your party if you have one) instead of one guaranteed hit and a possible combo he can just hit you out of. Plus, as fun as they are sometimes, this post wasn't talking about LS, it was about the sadly underappreciated hunting horn. Of course, I don't mean to insult you or your playstyle, you're probably much better at LS than me, but I'm just sayin, I would choose hunting horn in a Diablos fight. Plus, blunt damage is a blessing if you want to break his horns.
@@redpikachu3754that is not what i meant, on this video when diablos burrow the way to evade is by running. But ls has a long sheathing animation (some moves are animation lock)
and most likely will not make in time if you are too close, its easier to just use foresight backward and cancel rather than running. Btw I'm not main ls mostly i use gs.

gondeaz shadow ah, sorry. Just thought I'd try and help you understand the tactic. Also, nice choice for a main. Also, armor or decorations with quick sheath can be a huge help, and a life saver, especially for slower weapons like GS. You can sheath, dive, heal, whatever, then draw attack or so.
Here is a tip for all you hunters out there... Screamer pods only work on it once it is FULLY underground and burrowing. They wont do anything if u do it in mid animation of it digging. There i just saved u a lot of screamer pods
they also only work when it's doing the dig attack specifically, so listen for the music queue and save your pods if it's digging to change areas and not attack.
Ill need to check if this still applies in world, but in past games an angry diablos also doesnt care about your loud noise pods

Lay down mega barrel bombs and watch him charge at them / swing his horns at them. Generally think of the bombs as your cape while you're bullfighting with him :)
This is entertaining to do with any big f***** that dives/charges.
Diablos tips:
1- Like the screamer sack, there are a few hunting horns with a song that can manage the same effect. Unfortunately, they will usually need to be ready by the time it starts digging to be effective.
2- Unlike flying wyverns, Diablos cannot dig underground if somebody is mounted on it. So find yourself a cowboy willing to ride the bull.
3- Diablos can also be bated into attacking mega barrel bombs, and works both above ground and below. Might be more effective for a sword and shield user for the quick item usage and blocking ability.
4- If the B52 Bomber shows up when fighting Diablos, make like Trump and build a wall. Diablos is so large that it is easy enough to use Diablos as cover from the more direct attacks.

If you really want to let your team go ham on Diablos.. after you screamed pod it up from the dirt, have someone ready to flash pod it the moment it flies up to get out of the ground. It will drop diablos like if you flashed a flying monster.

3. Can anybody confirm if they experienced a Diablos attack involving flying? I SWEAR it uses those wings for something but I didn't see anything after fighting it for a few hours. Lemme know!
4. Regarding Screamer pods when Diablos is enraged, I went back to my footage AND fought it again to make sure. The pods aren't a guaranteed "no", but a few of them didn't trigger. Might have been a flaw in my timing. But they do work.

It’s helpful to note that after breaking one of his horns the wildspires will no longer have an effect on his charge attacks. If you do want to make the most out of them reserve breaking his horns after you’ve used up all of the wildspires. You can also use the burrowing to your advantage by placing barrel bombs down and waiting nearby only to dodge at the last minute for him to take bomb damage right on his horns. Also once his horns are gone his charges and horn sweeps will do less damage to you

This is actually wkinda wrong, (wildspire having no effect after broken horns). Because i always break the horns at the first minute. And I think if it hits widlspires when both horns are broken deals impact damage to his head because he once got stunned after he hit it. And I mean stunned, with stars in his head, not the usual stagger.
“Sweep the entire area infront of me” is a pain in the ass. I keep getting hit by it and stunned
If you ever have difficulties fight this yellow bull, try to learn the GunLance and the fight will become easier than using the lance. Remember to use wyvern fire on either its horns or wings, spam full burst to make it regret ever having armor, and hold R2 just like the lance.

I appreciate the use of Vega's theme in the context of hunting Diablos being like a bullfight.
I like to point out that he is known as "The Unforgiving Tyrant" in Monster Hunter 3, and he feeds on Cactus instead of Meat. (Always use that to your advantage since he won't bother looking around while eating)
Also, he's an Underground Dweller meaning he has a very sensitive hearing (Even though he is labelled as Flying Wyvern who actually has wings) and that can freak out when a Sonic Bomb blows when he's underground, "May not work when he's angry" (I know you've already covered that, but I wanted to look smart)
1 more thing, Distance is the Key, therefore I had no problems facing him with a Bow. (Heck, I won on my first try which was intense and fun)

For all you gem farmers out there, temp Diablos is the easiest to farm footprints because he walks in his sand hut about 32 times i think. He's also just easy to fight solo or team, if you want high teir gems farm him Ive gotten almost all the Crit based jewels from him, and even 2 extra attack jewels, and we all know how hard those are to get.
him,black diablos and azure rathalos are the only tempered monsters I struggle with as I ain't reach tempered elders yet so any tips?
@@necrozander7305 for me i started to experiment after i hit highrank, i started with long sword ended up with charge blade, then bow. Flash pods for flying monsters, screamer pods for monster who go underground. Also, try to learn the monsters move set, the faster you can see an opening the better. TRAPS, NOT ANIME KIND. Traps once they step on it are a excellent way to apply fast free damage. Even if you dont capture it there is still 5-20 seconds of pure dps. Bring extra crafing materials, to craft the things above, on the fly. I highly recommend you try bow it was a ez carry for me up until i started to farm jewels.

If you're able to bring paralysis, DO IT. Seeing diablos having 4-5 random seizures during a hunt lets you focus on the tail and/it horns. And if you know/ are a blunt damage weapon user, you can take out the horns relatively quickly. As a Hunting Horn user (I like to doot) I've broken his horns in the first 5 minutes of the hunt. Satisfying.

By the way, the weapons that are made from diablos are usually the strongest in their class. Hammers, charge blades, and insect glaive users are going to farm this overgrown bull alot. Along with black diablos.

I actually didnt use Diablos glaive...like...at all. and once Lunastra glaive came out I had no reason to use any other. maybe it's different for low rank? idk...I just remember I didn't end up using his glaive that much.
...though I currently am raging at Mr Torro because he is making getting a Diablos bow VERY FRUSTRATING.
Best to couple those weapons with Critical Eye to deal with the Negative Affinity.
If it's the greatsword or bow, you can get away with a Draw-attack build, using level 3 charges and Dragon Piercer though.
Actually no, Insect Glaive mains like myself do not appreciate the -30% affinity attached to it.
I don't even see alot of people using the Diablos tree weapons.
I only used the Switch Axe. And it was only temporary.
Well I'm a hammer main, and i've noticed the numbers. Also i forgot insect glaives have better options as well.
Ive got 1 or two things to add about the weaknesses:
Diablos Head is most of the fight not a weakness. You have tobreak his horns to do more dmg to his head, but without his horns he wont be able to get stuck in the wall.
If you really want to hut him, break his chest, it seems to me, that he takes the most dmg from any weapon on the broken chest

If your a light bow gunner(like I was) you can beat him pretty easily. I myself beat him with a barroth bowgun and baited him into attacking my bombs. Used the thorn slingers on his head and shot his wings. Beat him in 12 minutes with a capture.
Just tried my first diablos hunt an hour ago. First monster that killed me... And he kept killing me xD Both main weapon (hammer and insect glaive) I had trouble finding a good spot. I will use this video to tame him thanks !
Dat_Walrus Hammer = go for the head. If your timing isn't that great, you may get hit a few times, but it's worth it
@@thebenis3157 I disagree. Only go for the head when it's stuck. Go for the legs instead, stay by the side. The head is well protected and even green sharpness may bounce off. And you do not want to bounce infront of the Diablos' head.
Hunterfalke Why would you ever go for the legs? They are not even a weak spot. Anyway, yeah, if your weapon hasn't got blue sharpness, perhaps the chest would be better, that is a weak spot. Hitting the legsreally sounds like a waste of time though
Alessandro Pedretti "Why would you ever go for the legs?" KO damage can stagger Diablos and the legs are an easy to hit target for a weapon with short range like the hammer. Chest is a good target too though, same general area.
Ugh-Fudge Bwana Yeah, you definitely don't know how to play. The legs aren't a weak spot at all, and if you are playing this game and constantly aiming for a spot that isn't weak, you are doing something wrong. After almost 500 hours played almost only with the hammer, I think I can pretty much say that you have to aim for the chest or the head when fighting a Diablos with a hammer. The legs may create an couple openings after a while, yes, but you're gonna take hours to kill it by just hitting the legs
Boringsnipe and Freeze ammo rip this bad boy a few new ones. If you’re lucky, you can snipe him during a charge, get tons of damage and even not get murdered!
I could’ve sworn Diablos’s weak point was its taint in earlier generations. Maybe that was just Monoblos.

You're literally the only person that covers monster fights thank you, even tho I beat all of them your tip against rathalos and flashing it while it flies is the best advice that I use for every single flying enemy. Hope you cover tempered fights maybe

ITS BLOS CENA, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES (This was my first ever wall in MHW, I hate him with a passion)
You would hate the four horns quest in MHFU(old gen diablos gives me ptsd from that fight.) ok so imagine a black and regular diablos that you have to fight AT.THE.SAME.TIME! Once i lost due to time and i had killed reg diablos and then after i lost either black diablos went to sleep in front of me (probably not) OR IT JUST DIED AFTER THE TIME UP! I was stuck on the quest for a week. P.s the chrg bld help on 4u diablos (who is better to fight then in freedom unite) i played freedom unite on IOS By the way. I am planning to get world soon since i also played all the 3ds monster hunters, so i will probably get wrekt in world. A reason why diablos was once my most hated monster is due to mhfus broken hitboxes, coupled with roar spam and constantly charging at you and well, you get pure rage juice. I am excited to get world and a PS4 real soon.

Using wyvernsnipe on a heavy bowgun with 2 shields is great, he is super long and always faces you so you can get a full length snipe for approximately 10 trillion damage, and the shield is super easy to use because his attack patterns are so simple

If you are using a charge blade, I recommend going for guard points. Diablos's attacks are so telegraphed you can easily time the guard point. And for those who don't know: a guard point is a moment in an animation where the shield is in front of you. Things like the sword to axe morph animation. If the monster attacks you at these moments it will block the attack. These deal your weapons phial damage type to the monster and allows for immediate follow up attack.

Yay Diablos! Also my favorite monster I've ran across by far! Though I do wonder if you are planning on doing these for the color variant bosses as well? Black Diablos for example does fake outs and a second shot at some of the bosses would allow you to fill in more jokes you may have thought of after the first version's video or didn't make the cut.
Since its attacks are so straightforward, weapons with a counter after blocking (CB, Lance and maybe longsword, even though you're not blocking with it) are pretty fun and unable an easier fight while training newest player to the counter mechanic

Been waiting for this for so long diablos was hard for a great sword main like my self because i use a lot of jump attacks pretty much turned a low mobility weapon into a high mobility weapon with my play style hunted rathalos before it told me to way before

Fun fact: Diablos is actually an omnivore. In older games it just ate cactus but in World it hunts barroth from time to time. Presumably when it’s running low on that succulent cactus.
I think the Barroth kills are just it being hyper-territorial.
Jacob Kern yeah, that too but it’s encyclopedia page in World says it has sensitive ears to hear prey. Either it occasionally hunts monsters or eats noisy cactus.

Its funny how deviljho's armor looks like a wrestlers outfit, Picklejho vs El Diablo. In their turf war, pickle slam the shit out diablo though immediately breaking one of his horns.
When he's at the area with the sand-falls, there are two different attack he can do at that point : he either go underground to the sand-fall and come back, charging at you ( like in the video ), OR he charges first in the sand-fall and come back with the underground attack. By looking at wich moove he used to go into the sand-fall, you can predict with wich moove he will come back at you.
10/10 music choice for first part

I've noticed that putting you back close to a wall as a lance helps a ton. When it charges it stops at the wall and leaves you under its belly to get massive damage in. Be blocking of course. It helps because it mitigates the problem that is distance
