In all seriousness to beat nergigante you need to be as brutal and unrelenting as the elder dragon itself. You need to face him head on, give him nothing and take from him everything.

I have been told the black spikes can be broken without him divebombing! Sources tell me dragon pods/weapons, but if you can break them when they’re white, it’s even better! Thanks to those who pointed that out!
My fav tactic is how to learn
I would grab uragan armour and get the lance/gunlance
Solid defence and the gaurd bonus will give you the ability to tank a fair bit of his attacks as you learn weak spots

I have tactics for AT Nerg.
As soon as he does his claw mini-ground pound, RUN AWAY. There is a good chance he will do his fast ground pound immediately afterwards.
That, and generally just stay on your toes more. It helps you be more weary of his attacks.
Guard 5 and Guard Up with Lance. Best place to stay is around his mid section on HIS right if I remember correctly. When he flies up and roars, prepare for Spike Dive. Guard or Superman Dive.

Tip #1: pay attention to his spikes, and if you’re using a weapon that has a longer sheath time, rather than waiting for his roar to sheath your weapon, keep it sheathed until he divebombs
#2 When trying to heal, strafe around him, as he targets where you are, not where you will be
#3 Cut the tail
#4 Breaking the spikes lengthens the time between each divebomb
#5 standing near his rear right leg is the safest position, not necessarily safe, but compared to the other spots, it’s safer
#6 When he divebombs, superman dive at the same time he dives

#1 Tip: earplugs. That divebomb can’t hit you if it doesn’t roar stun you first.
Only problem is Earplugs is kinda rare, only thing I know that has it offhand is the Bazel set and you need 3/5 parts for Earplugs 5. A charm will only take you to 3 at best and the Decos are 2 slot and rare as hell, I haven't found more than 2 in over 300 hours of play.
otakon17 really, I have quite a few. Luck, I guess. But I find it perfectly possible to make a decent build either way

I wouldn't mind seeing a Zorah video, but I'm happy with any of the videos in the Monster Matchup series.
It's also worth noting that all elder dragons do something different when they are in their nests. Nergobergo's spikes grow back WAY faster when he's in his nest, so using flash pods while he's running away (so that he re-aggros onto you) is a very good idea.

You really should continue this series, I personally find it hilarious and helpful when playing MHW
The best way to attack nergigante is to be hyper aggressive. Seriously never go on the defensive. Your goal is to be all of the psycho. That's the best way to enjoy this fight too.
In case it hasn't been posted elsewhere, I suggest learning to superman the slam jam and avoiding flashes. Not only do flashes become very limited against tempered and AT Nergigantes, but his spikes won't reset if he gets flashed out of slamming. Which does mean he can follow that up with another jam as soon as he's done rolling on the ground.
One thing he forgot to include was the fact that cutting his tail makes it easier for him to do the dive bomb, as he has 1 less area that has to grow and harden before he can dive.
Note: Black Spines CAN be broken, IF you have Elderseal (weapons will tell you if they have Elderseal in their descriptions)

To this day my favourite thing about this game is when Nergigante breaks down a wall in his nest and all you see is his silhouette in the dust. That was menacing the first time I saw it.

I want gore magala to come into iceborne and wreck nerg. He and his adult form shagaru magala may be the only elder dragons that nerg wouldnt want to eat. They let off a virus that prevents regeneration
@@eeveeongirl Well, Elder Dragons are immune to the Frenzy Virus, so they'd only have to deal with its raw kinetic damage from Frenzy Virus explosions and whatnot.
@@GunlessSnake That is true, but that doesn't mean nerg would want to eat them regardless. I imagine that they could cause serious harm to nerg's system if he did decide to eat them, plus gore magala's are extremely durable and possess about as much strength as nerg especially when his horns come out. It would be an interesting fight, I think gore may win out of endurance alone.
eeveeongirl gore?i don’t think even shagaru can handle nergi,in a fight the only thing that gives him the upper hand is the virus,Nergi has absurdly high attack,high defense(both from the spikes)and is likely faster than all of the magala tree
@@ascended313 he is faster and yeah stronger. But the magalas have much more defense and endurance in comparison (a nerg fight is only like 10 minutes where shagaru is at least 20) Gore cant see naturally but can heat sense so he may have a better time reacting to nerg than other elders, shagaru on the other hand has fantastic control of area of effect. Nerg would for sure do plenty of damage but I think the magalas could outlast him. Idk it would be an interesting fight to watch as a turf war, the king of genocide vs the devourer of elders. At the very least nothing else is going to survive them being in the same area haha they all will die to frenzy virus or get eat by nerg
The thing that amazes me about nergis biology is that when the spikes are fully grown and he does that dive not only he found a way to deal incredible damage to enemies but also found a way to destroy the spikes without damaging his wings

interesting thing about his dive of death: i noticed that if you sheat your weapon just after he roars and imediately follow with a superman dive, your dive will always triger

nergie is my fav elder dragon but, god damn, his fight is kinda hard. except when your in end game gear in that case, *STAGGERS INTENSIFIES*
tips to fight him: be relentless, dont give him breathing room, you can actually block his dive bomb without guard up, black spikes is the time to back out for a bit till he does his dive bomb, white spikes are weak points always and are easy to break, always go for mounts and HEALTH BOOST

For every spike you break off of the Angry Flying Durian, is another Nerg. They reproduce like starfish.
Its horrifying isnt it? Disgusting too, everytime he dives, attacks, everytime we attack, it's his.. Eeeewww.

Best way to counter Nerg is to be aggresive: Nergigante becomes 5% faster everytime he roars, so he will literally become harder the longer you take.
Lightning is still a pretty shit element vs Nerg, his thunder hit-zones are only 15, which is half of what a normal 3 star weakness is.
Breaking any of Nerg's spike will cause him to trip unless you flinch stack, ie break horns and break spikes, middle of animation and break spikes, flinch and break spikes etc. You can prime each set of his legs and head spikes to get constant trips.
Nerg is particularly weak to sleep and blast ailments, he has very low starting triggers and end caps for them.
Nerg does his big roar with the wind pressure when he's ~30% hp.
Safest area to be is around Nerg's left side (your right).

Tip for solo hunters: The Palico weapon "kitty of the valley rod" does paralysis damage. Its going to trigger a few times per hunt and give you really nice openings without you having to carry para weapons yourself. And you dont have the kitty with you for the DPS anyways.
Yeah the palico is just a living distraction + random gadgets + being (mostly) useless
