"On your feet or on your Knees. Here they are, the Amazing Blue Oyster Cult!" One of the great live albums in Rock history....like so many others, Live from Oakland
LOVE LOVE LOVED The BOC !!! Got to see the ORIGINAL w/ the Bouchard brothers/their best lineup at least 10 times here in NY and a few times in NJ/Capitol Theatre. Great LIVE band and many great albums, especially the first 4 records.
From their greatest album "Secret Treaties". A perfect album, no filler. Includes their two best songs "Flaming Telepaths" & "Astronomy"
What about Dominance and Submission
One of the greatest guitar solos ever
Yes, an excellent drummer with a very unique style. Nobody sounded quite like him. Definitely check out the album Tyranny and Mutation, which has some of his best work. His fills and rolls are unlike anyone. Great stuff.
I've seen BOC twice. Just saw them in February at Hard Rock in Hollywood, FL with Deep Purple. Both bands were still awesome. Buck and Eric still rocking hard!
Albert Bouchard is a well experienced jazz drummer 😀
Absolutely terrific drummer.
This song is a perfect example of why everyone made live albums in the 70s. concerts were a communal spiritual experience. magik caught live on vinyl.
This is the first album I bought of B O C , excellent album , love every minute of it , not a bad song on it!!!!!!!!
Me too. Played this album a million times back then.
It's MY #1 all time
Saw them in 1979(?) in San Francisco. They advertised themselves as "Soft White Underbelly", their original band name, for a one-night show at a small club called The Old Waldorf. Was awesome seeing them at their stadium-concert-playing peak in a club setting. A very rich catalog of music that most people are unaware of.
It's the lyrics in this song that get me.
BUCK really rips it up during this tune...must pay attention to those lightning riffs in background while Allen lays down superb rhythm...as always. This double record was recorded w/ NO OVERDUBS... I remember an interview where Eric Bloom says they recorded it/mixed it and sent it in before the deadline of their record deal kicked in. Hard to believe, but that's how talented this lineup was/the original lineup w/ The Bouchard Bros. on Bass and drums.
When this band decides to open it up, man can they jam! BOC great live!
This song is about Imaginos who is shipwrecked and dying. The Invisible ones give him a choice. Die as a human or live as their servant. He chooses life and is resurrected from the dead by the Blue Oyster Cult. He is renamed Desdinova, eternal light. Founding BÖC drummer, Albert Bouchard, recorded his version of Subhuman title Blue Oyster Cult in 2020. Albert wrote and sang quite a few songs when he was in BÖC. On a side not. If you ever react to Dominance and Submission, from the same studio album as Subhuman, know that the studio version from 1974 is sung by Drummer Albert and the Live version in 1982 was sung by Eric Bloom, the same singer who sings the above song Subhuman. Early 1980's is about the time Albert was kicked out of the band. Here is Albert's version of 'Subhuman'. You don't have to react to his song, just enjoy. ruclips.net/video/axSESBoHC9A/видео.html
Blue Oyster Cult was really a 60s band that didn't land a recording deal until the 70s. Like a lot of Rock drummers from that era, Albert Bouchard brought his Jazz chops to the table. Put that as a backdrop for a hard rock sound and you've got a pretty cool mix of unapologetic rock energy with a finesse rhythm section. Albert said in an interview that his inspiration for drums was Gene Krupa. Meanwhile, Buck Dharma, the guitarist grew up with a father who was a weekend sax player. Buck had also mentioned that he used jazz trumpet phrasings for his leads. You really hear it on this album. Over time, I'd say he ventured away from that, but if you hear him at live shows, it's deep in his muscle memory.
The Subhuman has a lot of interesting chord changeups and blue sounds. They took a genre like hard rock, which was about being loud and aggressive and gave it a musicality not common in other bands.
The absolute best synthesized bag pipe solo in rock music IMO
Freakin' Awesome Man! Finally someone did this song. Keep the BOC coming.
Hey Chod. Look for "Buck's Boogie", an instrumental by Blue Oyster Cult and fasten your seat belt!
When Buck kicks in midway through the only thing anyone who loves music can do is smile ... he's amazing.
I’ve always been a fan of their earlier records... those 1st three albums were their best. I worked on one of their shows in Phoenix AZ .. had to be late 70’s when I was being allowed to do IA permit work doing load ins and load outs.. once we did the load in we stayed for the show so we could tear down as soon as they finished and load the trucks. Got to run a spotlight for an Earth Wind and Fire Show and for one of David Bowie’s Show... during that time.
At the time the critics called BOC
The Thinking Man’s Metal Band
Favorite live album!!✌🤘
the Red and the Black!! its a banger!
This is the song (and version) that turned me on to BOC. #OnTourForever
Chod, you'll like the drumming on "I am on the lamb but I aint no sheep"
The rhythm section are brothers Joe (Bass) and Albert (Drums) Bouchard
Albert swings like crazy. They've had more technical players since he left, but no one with the same feel.
For sure. Later drummers have played great drum parts to their music, but Albert Bouchard' drumming was an integral part of BOC music.
Killer point...generally speaking, the "swing" is really missing in modern rock. Like Keef has testified, "the rock's easy, the roll's another thing." Most of the really great British Invasion drummers brought a fundamental jazz background to their individual styles.
In addition, he's one hell of a songwriter too.
Yet another beautiful BOC song. Buck is a guitar god! Check out Buck's Boogie for instrumental greatness. Speaking of dragging, check out Dragon Lady. Also, Perfect Water.
They could make a song reading the phone book.
Lazy critics wrote off much of their earlier work as simply an American version of Black Sabbath but they were always much more than that especially the 'classic' line-up with the Bouchard brothers as the rhythm section.
The irony being fellow, Stony Brook alumni, Crawdaddy! rock critic, Richard Meltzer, wrote some of their earlier lyrics. Columbia had designs on BOC being America's answer to Sabbath...respectfully, they were far beyond "metal"; bringing the band's own individual styles & influences, including their collective West Coast '60's psychedelia fused one's, like the Doors & Steppenwolf, the Alice Cooper Band, Sandy Pearlman's cyrptic mythos, production & guiding light, Allen Lanier's girlfriend, the High Priestess of Punk, Patti Smith's, influence, etc..
Cthulu's tentacles are rampant... 🐙🔭👽
If you liked this, PLEASE check out the 3rd cut from this same album, "Hot Rails to Hell ". It blows away any other live song from any of their albums, and Buck's solo will melt your brain!!
dude, you got one of , if not the best reaction channels on the tubes.
Your knowledge and expertise show in spades.
33k now...soon 50k, then 75, 100 you are doing it good sir !!!!!
Treaties was my favourite during '70's high school, but Tyranny now rules that roost...the initial Black & White triptych & double live follow up, OYFOOYK, are what long time Cultists confess, are the chosen crew...deeeeeep cuts❗⚔👽🔭
🥁 Co-founding member, Albert Bouchard's an underrated monster musician; composer, drummer, lead singer & guitarist...cool guy, too❗
Wow! Another deep cut from BOC ...and it was great!
The late Allen Lanier was a great musician
Yes absolutely!
"On your feet or on your knees! Here they are, the amazing Blue Oyster Cult! My first time seeing this great band, was at the Oakland Coliseum. Where this album was being recorded. Till this day, have never seen better. Great choice.
😊👍
☮️💜
Their best songs are: Stairway To The Stairs and Hot Rails To Hell.
My first Pony... eh, BÖC album : ]

Albert sure is a good drummer, keep together the sometimes 'odd' music, you can tell him yourself hes on YT.
I had my moment of life, he liked a comment of mine and gave a nice lil commernt... no bull. ♥
*still looking for my jaw* (8 o
This song (The Subhuman) is actually called "Blue Oyster Cult" and its from the Imaginos story and album
ruclips.net/video/ES8knTJwfo4/видео.html&ab_channel=Blue%C3%96ysterCult-Topic.
It takes on a whole new creepy twist and I love it. The song "Astronomy" also gets special treatment on the Imaginos album. Many of BOCs songs from the first album to Fire of Unknown Origin are part of the Imaginos story.
I had this on 8 track tape an vinyl
UFO & BOC is 1978 with all their crazy lasers!
Chod my man, this is one of rock's all time great live albums, but there's one other song on it you must check out it's ME262. One of the all time bangers.
First album I bought of theirs when it came out. Thanks Chod. And a happy thanksgiving to you and your family my friend.
This album and this song are like a guilty pleasure for me. I am amazed and gratified that this video exists. OK, I'll just blurt it out: Right or wrong, this video further augments my warm, positive feelings about Black people, even after watching many videos of Black people reacting positively to music made by white people.
On to the actual music: This recording was made in 1974, and musicians were just learning how to use the primitive synthesizers of the day. One of the many things I like about this performance is how the band introduced the synthesizer by way of a fairly lengthy solo, then placed the synthesizer against a wall of rhythm guitar sound, finally leading to another spectacular guitar part.
This album kicks ass 🤘✌️🔥
I saw them in the mid 80’s …small club on the Ft Lauderdale strip ….they played under the name
Soft White Underbelly……had it on the marquee…..it was an excellent show 🤘
Mid 80's? Are you sure? They were called The Soft White Underbelly before they were ever known as Blue Oyster Cult. Help me here Sky Dog!
@@markhaus2830 yes they would sometimes play under the SWU name & that’s how it would be promoted…..no mention of BOC……still have my ticket …Tues Sept 3rd 1985 …Summers On The Beach
$10 ….Soft White Underbelly on the ticket …if I could post a photo I would ✌️
Check out Black Blade. It is off of their Cultasauras Erectus album.
Imaginos is left by his friends out at sea and is captured by the subhumans used by the Watchers and forced his powers to confuse humanity, come out and to become their instrument to cause humanity to follow their path into our future
OYFOOYK: IMO, the Cult's greatest live release. Unfortunately "Astronomy", "Flaming Telepaths", and "Dominance and Submission(Albert's original vocals) were not put on this album. We BOC fans have been wondering why ever since 1975.
Great point(s)...obviously, you're a long time fan, like myself. Their first 4 albums are their very best & that's saying something❗
My buddy's band opened for them & T-Rex on the West Coast portion of the tour, OYFOOYK was recorded. He testified what nice guy's the Oyster Boys are, Marc Bolan, not so much.
There is a very good Live in the west 1975 album that includes them. Released and recorded by the band and crew, not picked up by the record company.
Favorite of mine, every version including imaginos. In concert they ended the song with the old TV Show Sea Hunt theme song.
First 4 albums are somewhat avant garde. But, cool rock n Roll none the less
blue oyster cult Cities On Flame With Rock And Roll ***
blue oyster cult Divine Wind *****
blue oyster cult Deadline ***** great bass line
blue oyster cult Don't Turn Your Back*****
Blue Oyster Cult: Fire of Unknown Origin ***
Blue Oyster Cult: Heavy Metal: The Black and Silver *****
blue oyster cult Joan Crawford ***
You should checkout/react to the song Then Came The Last Days Of May from the same album as this song is on(On Your Feet Or On Your Knees). Its the best version of the song from the guitar to the vocals, bass, drums & keyboards & the lyrics tell the true story of a drug deal gone bad. It's worth your time! Happy Thanksgiving!!!!
oyster boys are swimmin...
Chod, well done again. BOC Rules! Please consider giving “Dominance and Submission”, “Astronomy”, “E.T.I.”, “Black Blade” and ‘Joan Crawford”. Thanks for your consideration.
If you do another B.O.C. - how about "Cities On Flame with Rock and Roll"
Joe B holds that bottom down tight.
Boz Scaggs first album. Loan me a Dime. Twelve minutes trading licks with Duane Allman. 1969.
Always loved BOC live instead of their studio albums. 4 concerts, and not a bum in the lot.
also know ... as 'soft white underbelly' ...
Please check out Race with the devil on a Spanish highway - Al Dimeola….or Egyptian dancer
Maserati GT please
If you haven't done it, you owe it to yourself to react to Jeff Beck from Live at Ronnie Scott's. It's an amazing group of musicians. Be sure to watch 'Cause We've Ended as Lovers with an amazing bass solo from Tal Wilkenfeld.
Again try Alice Cooper’s Halo of Flies (audio only: live doesn’t do it justice), where everyone gets a chance to shine in the song, especially the drummer.
I hope you're not done with Deep Purple. Please give a listen to a song called Fireball.
