    There is mysterious high pitched whining coming from engine at full power. It happens only on xicoy engines. It still makes nonsense because turbine and compressor is spinning at so high speed that blade passing frequency for both compressor and turbine are outside of our hearing range. So what could be causing that high pitched whine at full power?

  • @fern6978
    @fern6978 Год назад +1

    Quick question Jonathan... When you power up the Xicoy GSU without plugging in the RX power, does your GSU turn on?
    Mine doesn't and I want to make sure that's normal...
    Strange thing is when I ONLY power up the RX and don't even plug in the GSU battery, it works fine like normal. I know redundancy is great, but I was just curious if that's normal?
    Thanks in advance!

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  Год назад +2

      When turbine battery is connected but no signal or power from RX then turbine should remain off.
      When power is supplied through RX to turbine but no turbine battery is connected things will power on but turbine will not run.
      Things will look normal but if you try to initiate start it won't work.

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  Год назад +2

      Pretty much every turbine has adjustable acceleration and Deceleration rates. Some are simple Slow, Medium, Fast, Faster. Some are much more adjustable (ie, Swiwin). with a numerical system. In the case of swiwin, if it accelerates from idle to full throttle at a setting of 25 and takes 4.2 seconds. If you go up to 30 it may accelerate to full in 3.8 seconds.

    From what I understand that period of low rpms after a long run at high rpms is a "cool down" period. Its supposed to do that. Actually, you are supposed to do that prior to complete shut down. But thats cool it does it itself. By cooling it off slowly, it prevents warping and binding between the different metals.
    That thing is awsome. Someday Im gonna get me one. Its definetly on the bucket list.
    A few questions. 1) how much was it? 2) how loud was it? 3) how fast did it burn fuel?

      Hello. They are a blast to fly and so addicting!
      This particular one goes for about $1900 USD. It is sooo loud! Ear protection-required! Because this is the smallest size it doesn’t use a lot of fuel. On most aircraft your using a 1.25-1.5 L tank.

    • @InspGadgt
      @InspGadgt 3 года назад +1

      @@thelightersideofrc Well there won't be an install kit specifically for these planes...but from what I've read there are some turbines designed to be direct drop in replacements for certain sized EDFs. This looks a lot like some of the ones I've been looking at. The printed planes are designed for an 80mm or 90mm EDF...can't remember which specifically and the 3dLabPrint.com website is down for maintenance right now. So this will be similar in build to the foamy EDFs converted to turbine. I'll probably have to insulate the interior but if it can be done in a foamy I should be able to pull it off in a 3d printed plane :)

      @thelightersideofrc maybe not but if the air flow moving through the turbine was more than what the starter motor moves through the turning then initial combustion may not take place.

      If your reaching max RPM for the turbine then the lack of thrust could be Design, Altitude, Temperature Etc. There are lots of factors. at my altitude of 3200 ft ASL we see about a 15% drop in turbine output.

    One thing I'm noticing all of your videos and it's kind of bugging me. You never leave it for full throttle for more than a second! I'm actually thinking of some work application for these engines and I would really like to know how they do extended periods at full throttle although to be honest I would detune for reliability but why don't you ever do full throttle for more than 10 seconds???

    • @thelightersideofrc
      @thelightersideofrc  3 года назад +1

      Great questions! Part of it is right now is i'm trying to keep the neighbours happy. With some of my recent videos of the Swiwin engines I have been testing I have done a full throttle run to check fuel consumption. So those engines have been run for 1-2 min at full throttle.
      Reality is that full throttle is the hardest on the engines because there is so much heat generated. They can deal with it but an engine run at full throttle for 50 hours compared to an engine run for 50 hours at mixed throttle would probably be very different internally re wear and tear and probably mostly bearings. If you do de tune then 5,000 - 10,000 rpm that makes a massive difference in power output but also wear and tear.
      If you do watch the Swiwin engine tests you will see me talk about the compressor size and rpm of the engine. This is one of the things I really like about the Swiwin lineup of engines. My 170 for example has a larger intake and only turns a max rpm of 114,000 vs competitors engines have a smaller intake and turn 130,000 ish rpm.
