      Yes but in "Tommy Boy" Chris Farley says "Luuuke, I am your faather" while speaking into a fan. Thats why i say it that way. I think most of these "mandella effects" are just obvious (and maybe purposeful) misquotes. Somebody does an imitation, not caring about whether or not its right and it just sticks. Usually because its funnier that way.

    • @spitshinetommy3721

      "Luke, I'm your father" feels like an intentional misquote - it provides more context. "No, I'm your father" feels almost nonsensical in comparison.

    I’m pretty sure “Hello, Clarice” came from three separate things:
    -At the end of Silence of The Lambs, he almost says it when he calls her while hunting Chilton.
    -In The Cable Guy, there’s a scene where Jim Carrey parodies SotL and says it
    -In Hannibal, the sequel to SotL, Lecter DOES say it on the phone to Clarice.

    • @neonte13
      @neonte13 7 лет назад +14

      @jerel That may be true, but just about everything has been done before. (including the claim that it's all been done before, of course.) The important thing is that James puts his own style into it. Chiefly, his attention to detail, (including seemingly random asides that go on to add to our understanding, even if only on the level of things like character development) odd observations to make us think or chuckle, and genuine love and fascination for the subject matter. I mean, come on, man. Basically any media, whatsoever, is filled to the brim with borrowings from earlier works, leaving only the meniscus for original work.

    Here's another line that was never actually said aloud by the alleged source: "Goodnight Gracie."
    See, George Burns and Grace Allen had a show called _Burns and Allen_, and at the end of every episode George would say, "Say goodnight, Gracie." Most people remember her saying, "Goodnight Gracie," but she never did. She would simply say "goodnight." And yet everyone falsely recalls her saying "goodnight Gracie." Funny, huh?

      @EffKayFower 7 лет назад +1

      I'd like to add that is not uncommon for movie producers to release trailers or previews with scenes that do not make it into the final cut of the film, or they string scenes together just for the trailer, e.g. a scene of supporting characters shocked (cue Foley effect of gasping crowd) following a benign scene from another part of the film. Sometimes these don't even make it to a "director's cut." They're lost; you can only find them in the trailers. Perhaps people remember a "quote" from one such scene.

      @@chrismccartney2780 Apparently not. I always thought it had, but can't be sure.

    My theory on the Legosi "bleh bleh" is that it's a warm up technique to get into a character impression. Similar to what people do when doing Schwarzenegger or Stallone impressions. Or even the french laugh when soeaking in a mock french accent.
    At some point the bleh became so common over the years people who hadn't even seen the movies must have attributed it to a quote.

    For an overview of famous misquotes, you sure spent most of the video on that Dracula thing. Not complaining though, good stuff.

    Alot of quotes get messed up since... The persons name is added to the line to give context to the quote. And then... Its repeated sooo many times... We think he says... Luke,inam you farther... Or... Play it again..... Sam
    The names get added in for context and repeated a lot.
    I love casablanca. Best movie... Watch it atleast every 3 months.
    He never says play it again sam.
    Hell say.. He hates that song.
    The girl asks him to play the song. But... Not in that way. Which... Initally pisses boggart off.

    "Hello, Clarice" should be in the misquoted category because in one scene he actually says "Good evening, Clarice"

      No, he just says "Evening, Clarice!" He never says "good".

    Sherman says: "BLOOD". He even says at the end of the song: "He drinks BLOOD...doesn't everybody?"
