  • I straightened My natural hair!
I decided to straighten my natural hair as part of hair tourism. After visiting the Japanese salon for the first time last year, I suddenly decided to try the Japanese hair straightening. I really love my natural hair...but curiosity got the most of me :-). It was a bold and irreversible step for me, but I think It was worth it. Where else to try this but in Japan?
I hope you enjoy my journey to being unnatural. If any of you have been thinking of trying this treatment, I think you should do whatever will make you happy. Otherwise think of it as exploring other options. All black hair is beautiful. In the end, it is hair and it will grow back if you change your mind.
Thank you very much for all your support.

I respect him for not damaging your scalp, in America there are a lot of grown women that even with long hair have to repair broken edges due to us always getting perms close to the root growing up but once it's worked in it touches the scalp and damages our edges. I get you wanted a full straightened look, but i applaud him for looking further into your future of regrowth if you decide to cut the perm out and him keeping his integrity of the truth, he knows of what chemicals can do to your hair, in their culture that's how honor and love is shown, above customer satisfactory

THEY DID A PATCH TEST!!! I love that type of hairstylist!! it should always be done! And after watching the video I loved that they cared about your scalp!

I found it very great that he did a patch test so it would only damage a certain area not the whole head

This was such an interesting video to watch. I have the Japanese straight perm in my hair for quite some time now. In about 2 weeks I'll be getting it touched up at a Japanese salon here, but I feel confident in my stylist. I've went to him twice before and he offered to touch it up (at a different salon location) because the staff at the location I usually meet him said "we cannot do that on your hair texture". lol even though I've been having it done for over 6 months now. Sometimes you have to find a stylist willing to try despite negative assumptions. It's just hair either way

@@cystalinum2461 omg I’m sorry I’m just now seeing your comment. My stylist is Hideki at the SOHO Kahala salon here on Oahu, Hawaii. If it’s too inconvenient to get it touched up here, there are other girls on RUclips that have Afro-textured hair and mention where they get their Japanese straight perm

I just had this done (in Korea but its the same process/chemicals) and although my texture wasn't quite as tight as yours (mine is 4a) they did a really amazing job... I'm so sorry you didn't have the experience I'm sure you really wanted. I like how they did a strand test and seemed like they were taking care in doing it properly... in the beginning, but I feel like halfway through they gave up. Maybe it was taking "too long" and they no longer wanted to be meticulous in how they handled your hair because to me I see where they went wrong and it honestly could have been saved if they actually cared enough to take their time. They didn't use enough product/didn't get it close enough (probably because they didn't understand that curly hair shrinks) and didn't flat iron it well enough (way too low heat/fast passes/not enough of them). They really should not have neutralized it in that state... Anyway, you're brave for giving it a try! Again, I'm sorry they didn't take you seriously but we live and learn I guess. I know with hair as beautiful and thick as yours, your journey will always be fruitful and your growth will overcome any of these hardships Wishing you the best!

Thanks for sharing. Personally I think this was too much for too little. Tons of effort for a result that looked like a simple blow dry. You would've gotten better results using a box relaxer and doing it yourself. I'm shocked that this stuff isn't even allowed to touch the scalp when even lye relaxers nowadays are even formulated to not burn the scalp -and how else are you supposed to completely get your roots and your edges??? Maybe this would've went better on pre stretched or previously flat ironed hair but this process was not appealing.

You are a brave woman, to go on all these hair adventures amongst the black hair ignorant world of Japan. I gotta admit, I watched this video in horror. And got a bit miffed that this man was DENYING and dismissing your concerns about the hair not being straight near the scalp. You have such beautiful hair in its natural state, and I hope will have beautiful hair in any state that follows this adventure, but I am cringing until the follow up video.

I think they over processed your ends, and it was unnecessary to skip your roots. These results are okay if you didn’t want it that straight. I’ve seen much better results. They were so kind and gentle though. Looked like great customer service.

It is better than using relaxer into your hair. As long as you used non sulphuric products. Your hair will not break. Look how many time relaxing hair damage and rotten hairs. I think more need to know about this and let it be apart of your hair salon. More knowledge never hurts if you used it positively

I am a pro stylist in usa. I purchased the Yuko japense line for my salon. I was also surprised it can’t go on scalp it says 1 inch away. I even emailed to make sure because all these stylist use it on scalp when it can break r the hair. That’s why I don’t prefer it over keratin now even for myself. I have a similar texture as yours

This was traumatizing for me to watch so i know that your soul had to have been crushed watching people who were clearly afraid of touching your hair actually touch your hair. I've had so many bad experience that if I'm ever approached in that manner by a hair stylist, I get up and leave. They did you wrong and they knew it while they were doing your hair and after they had finished.
