I viewed an hour long video regarding the development of the 6.7 power stroke, featuring enthusiastic diesel engineer Cass Choate, who is intimately involved with the PS. He outlined the failures and successes of the PS from its inception (2011) until 2020 when they switched to the race engine steel pistons. It’s an eye opening commentary about trial and error and Ford’s commitment to winning. I’m pursuing an F250 w/PS and I admit, I was intimidated by the complexity of modern diesels in general and this design in particular. He revealed many issues that caused mechanical failures to where engineers were stumped about what caused the problem, and what to do to solve it, while customers patiently waited for answers. If I had a 6.7, I’d look to Choate to help out. Fascinating & highly recommended video for diesel fanatics like ARod and all of us. Here’s the link:

Your video was a LIFESAVER. The illustrations that came with my kit only show the factory fuel filter with two bungs. I was stumped but your video made everything clear! What a project. I was nowhere near as fast as you (unless you edited a lot of time out of your install video!) Thanks for making this video!
Glad to have helped!
Just finished mine and this helped with the line routing. Now to go do a boosted launch to get all my 8mm's back.
Just did mine today and I agree with Travis. Having all the EGR stuff still in tact makes it a little harder especially with the passenger side rear upper manifold bolts. I installed the Gen 2.1 kit (white Donaldson filter), but pretty much the same instructions. I installed the HSM filter upgrade kit at the same time (thanks to watching your videos). The video was definitely a great reference! Keep ‘em coming AROD!
Doin one in 9 hrs
I finally went to install mine today. Thankfully I had this great video to reference by my side. I’ve worked on uh-60 blackhawks with ease but wow was this job a task. Thanks for the video!
🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Thank you for your service!
I had this installed on my 2017 Ford 6.7 diesel by a Ford tech.
Afterwards I started getting a engine light code P088 high pressure in fuel rails.
Ford kept my truck for the entire month of January 2022. They replaced the drivers side fuel rail, check valves, pressure regulator and more. Check for fuel contamination and had none.
I called Tim at accurate diesel and he said could be one of those 2 o-rings on bypass kit. Not manufacture problem. I believe it may be it got cut or pinch during installation.
Still doing to this day. The light will come on for a few days with no visible loss of power and then just goes off.
I think the kit is definitely worth it to save up to 10000.0 to replace the entire fuel system.
Wow!
Newest models seem much better laid out to work on.17-19, top plastic intake is a pain on the passenger side. The rest is pretty easy. Thanks for your videos, the kit S&S is the way to go
💪💪💪💪
Got mine in last weekend... Man eff that job! That upper intake sucks, my black plastic one looks harder than the new ones. To anyone doing this themselves, definitely get a good quality 1/4 in wobble socket and extensions, and long skinny T25 hex and 4mm Allen drivers. And wear gloves; my hands are cut to s*** from that plastic cowl. A topside creeper would have been awesome too. So glad it's done though, pray I never have to replace the pump...
Yes, I am fighting it right now on a 2015 F450. Your video was awesome. I’m going back at it. Thank you.
Was ready to purchase SPE Fuel Disaster Kit until I saw your video. I have decided to buy S & S kit now. Thank you for another great video.
Wheeeeew great save
Spe kit is better and doesn't trash your tank
Well as usual I broke the electrical connector on the pressure regulator and it fell off giving me the p0001 code took it back apart now it is fixed. Thanks for all of your vids they are a great help.
Did my 2.1 install yesterday on my 2019. The instructions didn't even show hose routing or filter housing install so your video helped a ton. Thanks Arod.
💪💪💪
Use razor blade, cut gently the upper layer and done no need to torch. Just gentle cut. Works like a charm.
I was gonna do that after thinking about it but i didnt wanna score that dudes line...then be u know what. Go idea tho pal
I installed this today 8 hr job, been sitting on it for a year, got the updated alum return filter head. Unfortuantly the connecter that comes off the hardline for return to tank doesn't rotate 180 deg, I have a 17' so maybe different had to do some tweaking to bend the hard line up so the new alum barb would fit into it and not kink the rubber hose, still has a slight kink. Took an hr to clean out intake huge chucks of soot, no leaks and seems to be good. Use this guide to help to the job.
Buddy, that line shld twist right inside that hard line. I just did 1 yesterday
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I know, my build date is 1/17 maybe they have 16' lines no idea but they don't twist, I twist the line itself trying to do it. Looking closly is all one piece 100% won't twist on mine.
For a Novice tech like me these Videos are important for my Job as I am new to the Diesel World. I might not need to know how to do this because we have a fairly old fleet but thanks to this Video I feel confident I can do it. When I do run into a problem Your Videos like Diesel Tech Ron (RIP) always helps me find the solution. Like always Dude Great content. Keep it going Knowledge is Power...
We really appreciate that....RIP DTR!!
I just tackled this install on my 2020. Thank God for this video. The install still took me 5 hrs, and this is the first diesel I’ve owned. The manifold definitely tested my patience as one of the rear bolts on the left side was a pain to get to. My truck has 54,000 miles and I was happy to see the VCV wasn’t showing any metal shavings. I’m happy with how the kit went in, and it was definitely easier putting everything back together. Thanks so much for the video Arod.
Just did 1 yesterdeeee
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod So, reviewing the install and referencing some removal and installation documents here. Is there a way to reuse the crankcase vent oil separator and line? The Ford documents state to cut the rubber sleeve and break the tabs on the quick connect. Then, it says install the new one.
I always do just did mine, twist & PULL
Quick question will this effect my 100k motor warranty? My 2020 has 30k on it and im always thinking about that damn cp4 i use additive from Ford and also Howes in the winter but i really want to install this s&s kit.... Also what do you think about the sinister cold hot tubes?
@@jers9375 I, have an 2005 6.0l and I, put in The Hot & Cold pipes and boots and also did My intake Elbow, and I, have had Zero issues with them. And I,will also be doing coolant Reservoir when the time comes. I've had good experience with Sinister Products.
Just installed the s&s gen 2 kit on my truck yesterday and i dont know how or why but it runs smoother quieter and on top of that the added protection is definitely hands down the biggest benefit. I will say this the last hose to be installed is the return line off the gen 2 filter needs to be shortened by about 4-6 inches because its way too long but other than that it badass. Also if you had the gen 1 kit like i did you will have to buy a new feed/hardline for this install to be correct on s&s website they say you can still use just the filter without buying the entire kit but mine was leaking somewhere anyway and i wanted to get rid of that compression fitting also so…🤷🏼♂️ clean look under the hood and a badass product from s&s also id like to add i had a inline pressure gauge on the feed side i cut their line and reinstalled it and the pressure is exactly the same so no pressure loss whatsoever…..👍🏻✌🏻
How long was the install for you?
Damn son, im missing the sweet groovy bahamian, jamaican tropical island intro music.
Isnt it lovely to work on a perfectly new car or at least a well detailed engine bay? Thats why I keep all my cars' engines squeaky clean (no issues so far)
Yea babe!
We love these too, the clear return filter is great to see if any metal filings start to appear.
Great product
Nice Install video, loved seeing the relevant S&S installation guide pages on the side screen , nice reference to follow in the future
Hey thanks
I like my tools magnetized to prevent screw & bolt drops.its just a mattter of wrapping the tool in wire and putting a charge thru the wire. Found a battery that is like 35lbs lighter and has 1,200 CCA for my 2000 F250.
That doesn't help when there are more and more non-ferrous fasteners.
So much room for activities under that hood with a few pieces missing !
Looks like the plumbing under a NASA built rocket.
I did the spe one on mine. I like that you do not need to remove the factory fuel line on spe kit. S&S make great stuff too.
Also spe customer service does suck. But there shit is good too.
Id STILL rather not deal with them
Just so I understand completely..... the purpose of this kit is that should the CP4 take a dump and start pushing metal flakes into the system, the new filter catches it instead of it getting into the injectors, tank, and elsewhere in the system resulting in a much higher repair bill that just the faulty CP4 replacement?
The kit is worth it. I have it on my 2012, my repair cost was 5k all in after my cp4 went out
@@bob1341 5k for a new pump and fuel filter?
@@BetweentheCheeks00have you seen how you have to replace the pump? I watched a DIY video and started crying 10min into it😂 practically have to disassemble to whole engine.
@@aagl747 Disassemble the engine? You have to take off the intake manifold and some hoses. It's a 6-8 hour job for an amateur. A mechanic charges 125-150 an hour. A brand new cp4 is 1200. That should be a $2500 job for a mechanic.
@@aagl747he had the CP4 exposed in this video. It's nowhere near taking the whole engine apart.
Lol love the “come on baby” while taking off the plastic line! 😂 my go to line when trying to get something off, usually does the trick😂😂
Yeah I think that's going to be the first bolt on upgrade I do 👍👍👍
Yea babe
Like the install of that much better than the coolant line with bolt plugging it.
I know i thought that was goofy looking
Outstanding video as always, I still think the key to helping the pump is the fuel additive like this guy is adding, keep that pump well lubricated to help prevent those metal shavings.
Yes sir. My client said he runs all HOTSHOTS SECRET products
I wonder what percentage of failure occur on their own vs due to water or DEF in the pump
Wow! That’s awesome ARod
Great vids bro.... Going into these 6.7 with a little more confidence.... Miss my 6.4 but the power on these new strokers can't complain
6.7 puts the 6.0 and 6.4 to shame. I look at my 6.0 like a crazy ass ex girlfriend, she was good and it was fun while it lasted, but much happier now with my 6.7 lol
Clean install. Can’t wait to do mine now.
Agreed, now to do mine also! Overall that thing is spot on. Now to scratch that new part itch!
My client was so happy. I've never seen an almst 60 yr old so excited..we were laughin. Cool cat
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod that's so fantastic! It's the little things that make it worth while.
Time saver, just a suggestion, that style of quick disconnect I think is the most improperly removed disconnect I've seen. 10:25 If you push the big green portion on top of that tab in like a button and pull at the same time, it'll come right off, and wont break the locking tab.
You're thinking of the previous generation. The later ones you DO have to pull the clip.
Thank you!!!!!
👍👍👍👍👍
So impressed with this channel!
🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝we appreciate that
Sweet system...Very interested in adding this. Great video content, as usual. Good job!
Thanks paaal
Excursion re-launch. 🙏🙏
Maybe it'll soften the crazy asking prices on the old school Excursions!
Nice work ARod... another "must have" item(s) to the list, between S&S and separate vids of HSM fuel filter solutions. Keep the content coming brotha.
Kant wait brotha
Curious if any before and after install fuel flow data was captured, especially with parts removed? Read a forum note earlier this week, other brand DPK had resulted in noise around the return line filter and other concerns after running it for a few months - user planned to remove it. Separate, another use of S&S's kit noticed a slight bump of 2 psi @ 2k rpm using an energy metering valve, but not concerning in overall performance.
Ford should have this kit installed at the factory. These truck are so expensive to buy, no one wants a CP4 repair bill on top of the purchase price. What is a few hundred dollars more when purchasing a hundred thousand dollar truck if it gives you peace of mind and save you a fortune down the road if you do end up with a bad CP4 pump.
I know!!!! And people are hatin on me.....like hello wake up
Actually, Ford should replace the CP4 with a pump that is designed to not fail when using ULSD like GM has done by switching to Denso
Interesting
@@21psd GM is still having problem with there pumps even to this day. My buddy is doing two to three a week.
@@carlocrivello3044 I didn't know this. Are these problems also related to the lubricity of ULSD? I read that Ram Cummins switched back to the CP3 on their current models. I just don't understand why Ford doesn't develop their own HPFP to work with US diesel fuel instead of staying in bed with Bosch, unless its another long term contractual deal like they had with Navistar International prior to 2011 . Meanwhile, I keep adding fuel additives and cross my fingers with every fill-up that doing so will prevent a pump failure.
I have the gen 1 and gen2 filter. I also have the coolant filter which I've not seen anyone else on line has done. I'd love to show you pictures for again it's perfect and Noone else has done it that I've seen
Twist and pull baby! 🤣🇺🇸👊🏻 Man, I like this kit! 👍🏻
Yahhhhh
Good show sir, I am ordering one of these for my 17
I got this kit ordered and being delivered next week. Did take your advise and chose this kit, over that "other brand" kit with all the fittings! Thank you. :}
Yes far superior than them other bozos
Very good video of prep and install of the Gen 2 CP4 Bypass Kit from S&S Diesel. I have been interested in installing this kit on my 2011 6.7 and am glad that there are no modifications that have to be made as with the original. Clean look and straight forward install. Kudos to S&S for the R&D improvements and to you for a high quality video without all the nonsense. I will be buying this kit soon and getting it installed on my 6.7 that has just over 250k on the original CP4.
Please add a bit of info about your PM Practices?? Like how often fuel filters replaced, have you used lubricity additive since new or approx when? Have a 2016 but didn't learn about the CP4 issue until about 30K miles. Thanks, RC
Check our video we did about maint, we did against a white board
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Thx, did but am hoping to hear a reply from Ray Filbrick about his particular truck with 250K on it. Especially when he started using additive for fuel lubricity. Concerned how much damage may have occurred to my own by following Fords recommendation never add additives, until my shop recommended it. This is my first diesel truck and this CP4 issue is dang disappointing.
EVERY tank is supposed to have additive. If there was something wrong....brother that fucker wouldnt be running, PERIOD
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod AM doing additive every tank religiously now. Shop recommended Stanadyne. Thoughts? Something better?
Awesome install buddy!!! I have mine and am just waiting to get my truck ….22 6.7. ❤️

Should take the rest of the paint and it will still be look like that's how it came
Great video. Thanks. Sorry for the lack of enthusiasm but it sucks for 6.7 owners to even have to worry about this crap. These trucks are soooo expensive we expect them to be reliable and long lasting. It is a shame we have to be concerned something major may fail so early on.
I know
It’s not the truck it’s the fuel we purchase at the pump, I work for a trucking company, we got nothing but Detroit 60 series engines and even those fuel systems and injectors are getting fuxked because of the shit fuel we get here in the US while Europe gets the good shit… it’s really bullshit
with the manufacturer's warranty there is no problem, I have a 2021 f250 and I would like to do it
Ok do it then👍
From a 91 idi that I built a custom turbo …(that got totaled)for to a 03 6.0 that I tore down and bullet proof myself ( stolen)…to a minty 17 6.7 powerstroke that’s spending its first night in my driveway I just can’t leave anything alone….looking foward to setting this thing up for glory passing Cummins and pissing off duramax owners…one mountain pass at a time

Good video install ARod. Nice kit for sure.
You did do a very clean install though
Arod,
Thinking about adding one of these. I see so many saying they're snake oil but I can't see how they wouldn't help save all the high pressure components in a failure.
Ever seen one save a system yet?
I watched S&S video and it seems legit.
Thanks man!
Legit asf my man! Hope ur well

Very nice install , need to get that done to mine

Question ARod how many cases of disaster have you seen or had to repair, I'm just trying to get an idea of how common these CP4'S Actually come apart? And last week while I, was at the Fuel Island the Gentlemen on the other side of the pump was filling up his 6.7 which was a 2017 after I,inquired to the year, and then I,asked him if he had done the disaster proofing on his truck and as it turned out he was completely unaware of the problem, so I,explained a little bit about it to him and he said that he was out of warranty and would definitely be looking into it, especially after I, told him about how expensive it was to fix the disaster and how much it was vs getting the prevention kit. But anyway I was just curious about the pump failure rate is, I, have one case of it that happened to a Canadian Hotshot driver I. His F450 and this dude is constantly or so it seems that he is always Towing stuff on his 40ft. Gooseneck that's was way beyond his Max weight, and he blamed it on making a poor choice of where he purchased a tank of fuel. Me I, have a 05 6.0l and I'm pretty religious about using a fuel additive with Injector clean, and cetane boost and I, give bottles to my son for his 2016 6.7 Cummins and I, also run Amsoil 15-40W and change it every 5 to 7K.
Ooo maybe well talk about this tonight!
Thank you, great video…! Can you do an instal video on a 2011-2016 powerstroke?
When some may brings me a truck in a kit
You do a great install video. Thanks
🙏🙏🙏
Great video and as always very clean install.
Just purchases s&s system going ti install this weekend great video good info will let you know how it went bubba in va
would be nice if the connection to the hardline was a quick connect instead of a hose & worm clamp.....but otherwise looks good!
SPE takes too long to ship products butttt they charge your CC when you place the order!
Yuppplppppp
I got my spe kit after a loooong wait.... First kit, the hose that connects to the fuel filter outlet wouldn't positively snap on and the fragola braided lines nut became a leak as well. After getting a free replacement fuel filter outlet hose and paying for a replacement fragola braided hose (claim I overtightened) I am up and running.
Unfortunately, during 0-60 wot pulls, my truck will alert "reduced engine power"
Regretting ever dealing with spe

wooww so nice. so clean install and looking good. this is what Ford should have from factory install. if i buying a Super duty i would have it from the dealer you made a nice work Aaron
but one question? what is the Blue part installed on left side it looks to be there as replaced for som reason. like to now way ?
That is the trucks egr cooler. The blue plates are block off plates. People get rid of the egr/egr cooler because they have some issues and also recirculate your exhaust back into your intake. The egr will put soot back into your intake causing it to clog up eventually and will run poorly. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
@@willsweeneysreelfishing4861 okej. thanks fore that information, were almost think that i were gr/egr cooler delite that was made on that truck

Great video I love how your videos are really in depth for us DIYers! I’m ready to order this for my ‘22 F250 but the one on the site is the new Gen2.1 and looks to be a 9 micron return filter. What are your thoughts on this kit vs the original Gen2.0? The filter looks to be solid and not clear like the Gen2.0
They were having a hard time getting filter. Accuratediesel.com has the 2.0 kit & filters
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Ok so I guess now it just comes down to preference if you want the clear or solid. Thank you!
The supply side line to the ss return filter vibrates a ton. Makes a very quiet gurgling sound too. Wish I knew if this was normal. No flow issues. I test at all that.
Doesn't sound normal to me...
I wrote to S&S and they basically said vibration in the supply line to the filter comes from the fuel flow return pushed from the CP4. Thus the reason for the bushings between the mount and firewall. They also started keep the hose from touching any part of the engine as the vibration of resting against an engine component will cause noise. If you hold that line with your hand you’ll feel some pretty good vibration. The sound is so slight you have to put your ear directly on the inlet to hear it and it’s just the sound of fuel flow.
Interesting
Great video.
Throttle body looks clean not cause of low mileage its because there is no egr or ccv
If you would of went with the spe disaster kit its a lot better kit and doesn't require you to remove thay plastic line. Instead theres a distribution block that seperates the 2 lines with a micron filter. The SPE disaster kit is plug & play. Im getting ready to install mine
Juat an FYI

Str8 up fan, question iz. Would you recommend adding this on to my 2022 F350? Or do you think Ford addressed this situation, since there is a lot of people installing it?
Sorry about late question, been working a lot and finally catching up wit subscription’s
I would highly recommended installing that. Ford is running the same pump from 11-23

Nice work! I can’t wait to install mine. So the metal gasket at the throttle body is reusable? What about the intake manifold gaskets?
All re useable
I have a 16 with about 75K miles, change filters regularly, try to buy good fuel but have not used any additives on a regular basis. A few years ago on a road trip pulling a trailer I got a low fuel pressure warning and went into limp mode. I had just changed fuel filters maybe 1K miles before the trip. I carry spares so I changed them out, no water no obvious debris or anything abnormal. Has not happened but that one time. I had just fueled up about 30 mins before this happened. Have you ever seen something similar where happens one time and one time only?
I am really leaning toward getting the S and S DPK.
I have not. Maybe you didnt seat the lower cap all the way 🤷♂️ how ever the S&S kit is a top tier kit
This is my fifth time watching this video. My kit is on its way.
Nice
Just ordered mine for 2016. Bought it used with 90k. Hope all goes well.
I have a question about my 2011 6.7l powerstroke. I deleted my truck and disconnected the egr, but it's still on the engine. Are those gasses still circulating in my engine even if I have it disconnected? Sorry about the stupid questions.
If they're disconnected, how would the "egr door" open up to thus let flow happen......
Have you seen the 2.1 kit? They are offering a discount on the upgraded filter head (Donaldson filter) on current gen 2 kit owners.
Wow, no..
I feel daunted working on the 6.7. I've only ever worked on 6.0s and 7.3s and heavy duty diesels.
Brother, IF I CAN DO IT SO CAN YOU! u will fastly loose intreset in thee others quickly
Trust me, it’s wayyyyy easier than you think. Personally I felt like my 6.0 was more of a PITA than my 6.7. Just seems to be a lot more room to move around and easier to relocate items to clean stuff up.
I think I should clarify, I've only ever done basic stuff to them. Upper intake removal turbo pull that kinda stuff but Ive never gone further. My 6.0 I've done hg's and studs an just random stuff I never had a real issue, I just get scared working on something so expensive and nice
Another excellent video ARod and great job on the install. This is something I'd like to do on my 2020. Will definitely add it to the list. What are your thoughts on adding a CCV drain or catch can to get rid of that factory box? I see this customer removed that as well along with "few other" parts. :)

Hi ARod. Like your videos. Keep up the good work.
I have a 2017 F350 dually that I use to tow RV'S all over the states. Changing the oil the other day and noticed a small oil leak right side just forward of the exhaust down pipe. Looks like it's coming from where the block and head meet between 2 bolts. I would like to send pictures so you can see. I am not sure if I need to worry about it.
Morgan.
Shoot I wanna know the answer too!
Finally picked up my Kit from Accurate Diesel. Tim’s a good dude, I gave you a shout out while placing my order. He definitely showed a little love, and helped out with the shipping. Just out of curiosity before I rip into this truck. Do you know if the Snap On extended torx bit will be long enough to hit that bastardized bolt securing the metering valve. That Matco is quite a bit longer. Looks like the snappy is about 5” or so. Thanks again for this instructional clip. It’s super helpful to know exactly what your getting into prior to starting a project, we don’t always get that luxury.
🙏❤️🙏😎🙏❤️🙏 it shld. As long as u clear the valve u can put an extension on it👍👍
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod Thanks BrO…I swear you’re more reliable than a 7.3. We always appreciate you, and the hard work you put in selflessly to make our lives easier.

Check out my ccv video, i show ya how to disconnect it. I just finished my install. Clean
Nice Install. When the filter is taken off, that one bolt, running thru the plastic is going to break the plastic, no?
Why wld it break, are you hanging on it
Just completed this following your video awesome job. I only had one issue I broke the blue locking clip on return line. How do I replace that lock??
Those all come with the lines
You wouldn’t possibly have part number for that line would you? Local Ford garage are clueless
