I am all about saving money. That’s why I bought your bye pass kit because you’ve done great testing and showed that they work and the savings will come if I (we) have a failure in the future I have bought 3 of your kits in last 4 days one for my truck and 2 for friends of mine. Came across this video watching install videos because I am in the process of installing your kit on a friends truck first then mine and then next friends truck. Thanks for putting out a quality product.
Why I have almost completely stopped doing business with Amazon. Even items sold by and shopped by them, let alone fulfilled by them only are starting to have knock-offs enter the supply chain. It all started for me a few years back when I ordered a fuel filter kit for my 2014 F350 with the 6.7L diesel. The photo was correct, but having been doing this for years I immediately knew the filters were bullshit when they arrived. I have yet to bolt on an S&S part yet. With 200k on my truck now, I had been ready to pull the trigger on the bypass kit. Then you announced the DCR. Tough choice. Either way, PTT wA Rod will be installing whichever I choose. The dude is an artiste, much like yourselves
My biggest thing would be the bypass block you don't want it to have any paint on it or eventually it will come off I just installed mine definitely worth the extra money
This is the best info. Thank you. Love the sardonic tone. I was considering a Chinese one before watching this video. Just hit order on my s&s kit. Looking forward to installing it.
Great video! I bought my S&S DPK through Thoroughbred Diesel and they were great to work with. Glad to have the real deal on my truck! Thanks for everything y'all do!
You guys are great!! I absolutely believe you get what you pay for. I've had your disaster prevention kit on my '17 for a while now and I love having the piece of mind knowing my fuel system is protected by a quality American product.
I would add a cosmetic fault , because the cloned copies will get better. In Europe some of the cloned parts on certain products were so good that the steel had to be tested ! After that slight printing and stamping errors were introduced which were not copied onto the clones making them easy to distinguish to the trained eye.
This video made me decide on your kit hands down. You are by no means talking bad about the other kits, you a merely showing the flaws that are below par to what our trucks require.
I was shopping for a kit on Amazon and I wasn’t sure if the S&S kit was worth the extra money. This video put the nail in the coffin for sure, I’m only going to order an S&S kit.
Thanks for everything you guys do there at S&S! I've used and sold many of your products through the years. Never had s single problem or customer comeback with even one! Soon, I'll be installing one of these kits on a customer's '15 F350 and I'll be purchasing it through Thoroughbred Diesel. BUY AMERICAN, SUPPORT THE USA!!!
S&S!! Love your products but - can you please put on your instructions that the off-road kit you DO NOT use the 9th injector. It cost me a day trying to figure that out. I only risked it when I watched a video and didn’t see the banjo bolt….
The ol’ adage, ‘You get what you pay for’….I have been burned to many times in the past and always ended up spending double in the end trying to save half to begin with!
I don't see anywhere on S&S website were I can ordered directly from S&S. Yes I see the vendor list. When people have to go looking through vendors, bad things happen. I think sometimes they accidentally buy the wrong kit. Being able to buy directly from S&S would be an amazing benefit to customers. They know they got the right kit from the right people. I understand though. Having a massive shipping and receiving department is not feasible. I see both sides loosing a little bit here. 🤷♂️... AND, Thank you for showing us the correct kit.
Solid feedback and a good point, thank you. We're one of the few companies in the aftermarket that does not sell directly. We've often considered it, yet we keep making the choice to support the people that helped us get where we are today. 10 years ago, when the S&S brand was unknown, several dealers took a chance and partnered with us. We want to honor that partnership and not compete with our dealers. The flip side is that it's a hassle for guys like you. One of these days we may find a good balance. Thank you for giving us a customer's perspective on it.
What’s really shitty is that when they don’t sell enough of the knockoffs fast enough, they’ll drop the price and then people will cheap out and buy them
Very true. We hope that this video gives fair warning of what they are getting themselves into. Based on Amazon reviews, it seems that a few people are learning the hard way.
Good morning. I have an Isuzu engine that uses the cp4 pump. I want to install a bypass kit and need only the piece that holds the metering valve as the rest will need to be customized anyway. Can you sell parts separately?
I'm buying a FUBAR truck that needs a complete fuel system contamination kit (at least) and I want to do it right. Can I pair this product with your CP4 to DCR conversion kit? Or is this kit not needed with the DCR conversion? Please forgive me if that is a dumb question. New subscriber.
That's a valid concern. Rest assured, it will not limit lube flow to the case. The overflow valve on the pump case is what sets the supply pressure by bleeding off excess fuel. This ensures that the case is completely full of fuel and at the correct pressure. We've thoroughly validated our kit to make sure stuff like that doesn't happen. Just one more example of what we do and what the knock-offs don't. They just sit back and let us do all of the work and then swoop in and copy a thoroughly developed product. Based on the results of this video, they can't even copy it right.
When an engine is replaced do you need to replace the blue o-ring on the metering block to pump place or can it be reused when reinstalling on the new engine? Thank You.
Great video showing the showing the short comings of the knock off kit. Honestly I'm not sure why anyone would be willing to save $50 and not just buy the real deal. You would be supporting a US based company, American made product. Plus saving $50 to have install headaches and potentially costing you thousands of dollars down the road in fuel system replacement. Having been around building high horsepower vehicles and being meticulous with builds I find these knockoff products atrocious to the industry and poison to those that just don't know any better. Pay once, cry once. If you cut corners it will always cost you more in the end. Another thing to consider is how responsive and supportive a company's customer and technical support is. I know S&S has top notch support and technical support, can you say the same for these over seas companies that make these knock off products? I have a S&S CP3 conversion kit in my current 5th gen ram, its a superior product that you can tell that it went through a thorough QC process and made with top quality components. It ticks me off to see a company spend the time and resources on R&D just for another company to swoop in and copy their products and do a sh*t job of it. Spend the few extra bucks, support an American built company that employs Americans and end up with a premium quality American made product. Its a win win and no brainer. Great job S&S 👍 🇺🇸
We try to focus on the features of our product and not what our competition is doing differently. We made an exception with this video because ATTEMPTING to copy our kit to a T is not competing, it's cheating. In the case of SPE, they at least took our original DPK idea and expanded on it with their own design and added a 20 micron metal screen to catch the metal. We have not failed a CP4 to test their kit, but we have failed multiple CP4s to validate our Gen2.1 DPK. The first failure was on our test bench to get a debris sample for analysis. Results show that 51.43% of the debris volume was under 21.2 micron and 27.49% was under 9.86 micron. Based on those results we were confident that any extremely small particles would get filtered out in the factory fuel filters. Mold and tree spores fall into the 9 micron category, so we're not too concerned with particles under that making it past the return filter. Just to be safe, we also failed a pump in-truck and towed a trailer with it. All of the visible metal was contained in the return filter and and injectors tested like new. We also chose to have no threaded connections on the supply side due to the potential for threads to create debris.
I'm fighting with SPE to try to get them to refund my money for their cold air pipe. They altered the IAT sensor port to delete the locking feature and make the hole shallower so the sensor isn't supported as well as the stock part. So I wasn't able to install the pipe, but they're refusing the return because I assembled the upper end to the intake. Totally bogus, and I'll never get anything from SPE again. I just ordered the S&S DPK. If my CP4 ever goes bad I'll get the DCR.

We say "should" because we prefer to make data-based confirmations. Keep an eye on the efficiency rating of other filters. You may get a low micron yet with a low efficiency percentage. We prefer to use the micron rating at 99% because it's as close to absolute as you can get. Technically, the Donaldson is 7 micron at 99.1%. Another factor in choosing the Donaldson filter was availability. You should not have much trouble finding one. Thanks for checking.
Am I understanding it correctly? Your filter is on the high pressure side between the HPFP and the fuel rail? Since it says it protects the rail/injectors?
The filter is on the return side. The billet bypass block alters the flow path so that case fuel, where the metal is created during a failure, is sent our the return and the pumping heads are fed with clean fuel directly from the stage 2 fuel filter. Here's a flow path drawing that helps explain how it works: ssdiesel.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/CP4-Disaster-Prevention-Kit-How-it-Works-24APRIL2024.pdf

This kind of duplicating by money grubbing lazy people is unconscionable companies like Amazon and Walmart and many others with substantial investments by China became what they are today in footprint and volume of sales peddling cheaper versions of better made and proven products supported by a customer base that has been slowly conditioned over decades to buy cheap instead of for quality not thinking about the fact that this cheapening mind set potentially can cost you so much more in the long run both in money spent and time wasted and usually does it’s time for the American consumer to start investing in quality that supports our country and our workers i.e. make the American middle class great again!
Thanks to Arod @ ptt for showing the real world aplicacion and installing videos! You guys are great!
What sucks about this video you are showing them how to improve their stuff and what to look for
Great video. Proves that it’s best to spend a little more (or even a lot more) and get a quality product from a quality company. Glad I got your kit and glad @PTTWAROD made me aware of your kit.
I can also say you have great customer support and helped me out when I needed assistance.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us, and for warning Amazon shoppers!
