  • The most rugged Subaru is ready to go where no other Outback has ventured before.

    Subaru Outback owners have been fitting their cars with big tires and skid plates for years. So it's no wonder that the brand finally decided to start doing it, too--and making a few bucks in the process. The new 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness beefs up the typical Outback with plenty of off-road kit (and a 2.4-liter turbocharged engine), and Cliff Atiyeh loves it.

    I just bought a used 2011 Subaru Outback 3.6R Limited, and am so in love with it!!! I sold my '07 Toyota Prius after 5 years and 2 battery replacements. While I miss the great MPG, I feel so pampered with the Subaru and all of the features and AWD! I could see myself sticking to Subaru's my entire life!

If you're considering anything similar, I'd highly suggest taking one of these for a test drive. This is our first Subaru but it surely won't be the last.

    Subaru has really hit it out of the park with this package. It is everything that we all have come to expect with a subaru plus the added off road capability that we knew that that it could be with a few tweaks. I have a 2005 outback and yeah, I can see a wilderness edition in my future!

    My wife really wanted a Subaru. Never owned one before and our 2007 Jeep Liberty was ok to drive around town but cannot make long road trips anymore. So, we went all in and bought a wilderness. Have not even had it a week and we just love it! Now mind you our wilderness won't be driven off road that much if any. That said I do agree if you're going to buy a Subaru get one equipped with a turbo. The standard 2.5 boxer engine does not have enough HP. Like my brother told me back in the day "never buy a vehicle that does not have a big enough engine to pull the car around".

    American car commentators make me angry. Do they have a problem with their adequacy? I’m just 5’6” tall not hung like a donkey but I get by because old reliable always starts, keeps on going and handles the rough.
    So why does every American need a bigger donk (engine) with a louder V8 sound in an off roader. And they always complain, “I don’t want to scratch the paint.” Then don’t go off road dummy.
    The most famous, most iconic and most successful off roader of all time was the WW2 Jeep. It was small and light. A four cylinder in line 134 cubic inch or 2.2 litre engine, 3 speed 2 range transmission, 8 ³/₄” ground clearance, 300 mile range (482km) and a maximum speed of 65 mph or 105 km. I was successful because it was small and light with good off road tyres.
    The big tough Hummers could not fit down the narrow lanes, and heavy vehicles sink in sand. The internet is full of Off-Road programs where the cars break down due to extreme modifications and overloading. Good cars designed for driving in moderate snow conditions and unsealed roads are criticised for not being extreme rock climbers. I’ve driven modern Jeeps, they still come closer to a true off-roader 80 years later, but I consider the Subaru Forester a much better on roader and reasonably competent off roader for the kind of driving I do. I haven’t driven the Outback Wilderness.
    We get 15 mpg from a Dodge Ram V8, 20 mpg from a WW2 Jeep, and 40 mpg from a Subaru petrol engine.That means carrying a lot less fuel weight and using less storage space. Boxer engines or flat fours, give a lower centre of gravity improving road holding and stability. Small engines have smaller transmissions further reducing weight and cost.
    And Americans go on and on about the car stereo, the WW2 Jeep didn’t have one. Pretty close to the WW2 Jeep is the Suzuki Jimny but as it is almost half the price of big powerful US 4 wheel drive cars I doubt the US will allow it on their roads. A position supported by 4wd commentators, who would consider its 1.2 litre engine inadequate. A similar fate to the Mahindra, which is based on a WW2 Jeep license to build.

    But, it is an appearance package. No LSD. Look at the actual tread on the tires. X-mode still has problems with split-mu or tire lifted situations. No AUX switches. It is a new model from computer engineering and an appearance package. There is no new mechanical engineering, which Subaru needs.

    • @AP-cc1uw
      @AP-cc1uw 2 года назад +1

      Actually it's much more than an appearance package. The lift is through longer springs, not spacers, so travel is improved. The wheels are now 17" so more sidewall and the tires, while not as aggressive as K02s are vastly improved over the standard tires in gravel road and off-road performance.
      Other improvements include skid plates (standard in Canada), revised front and rear bumper for improved angles and a revised final drive ratio which improves low-end torque and actually makes it a faster car than the standard Outback. This is not an appearance package at all. Compared to the RAV4 TRD Off Road or the Passport Trailsport, it's actually very significant.

    This review is 100 percent useless and should be deleted as soon as possible lol. Such a disgrace to call this a review and post it as such.
    What we have here is an Outback designed for offroad, yet the reviewer fails to highlight how it performs on real offroad challenges. He went on a flat dirt surface, yes, but even a 2WD vehicle can do that. If anyone wants to see regular on-road driving only, then they would check out videos of the regular Outback. This whole thing is dumb as hell and a complete waste of time. Do not watch any further. You have been warned!
