The 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness is Subaru's Most Capable, Lifted All-Terrain Wagon
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 16 май 2021
- The #SubaruOutbackWilderness takes Subaru's capable station wagon to the next level for 2022. The #OutbackWilderness gives buyers the factory lift kit they were doing in the aftermarket already. With skid plates, 9.5" of ground clearance, retuned suspension, meaty all-terrain tires, and a standard 2.4L turbo engine with improved acceleration, the #SubaruWilderness badge promises to be the pinnacle of off-road performance from #Subaru. We drive it through a creek, into the woods, and down some steep hills to see just how capable this new #SubaruOutback is. It goes on sale later this summer at a price of $36,995.

Happy Monday guys! Hope you all had a fantastic weekend! Last week, we drove about 3 hours north to NY, where Subaru allowed us to experience the new Turbo Outback Wilderness. We were actually very impressed with how it performed both on and off the road. This is also our first video to feature our 0-60 RaceBox acceleration timing equipment and we clocked a 0-60 sprint of 5.8 seconds with the new Wilderness and Subaru had us drive it through a stream that you'd never expect a Subaru to drive through. The new Outback Wilderness goes on sale next month!
Ah. We can compare 0-60 times now. We’ve been using the same timer for the past year.
I'LL TAKE ONE IN GREEN PLEASE

I was very impressed and entertained in this video. Not only did this Outback Wilderness impress me, your driving skills and courage impressed me too. That part where you drove through the river was especially breathtaking! Wow!
Hey brother Redline..... Look like you s little Scary to drive through this Fricken test River.....oh my gosh.....😂🤣😂
I'm not going to lie, I was actually impressed with this car in your review.
Sooo...Subaru pretty much scoured the forums and found out what outback owners were doing to their cars and did exactly that!
Well as their #1 selling vehicle it would behoov them to know what their customers want. They listened.....
Apparently they missed the part where we have to upgrade the sound systems in the sports editions because they refuse to.
Pretty much lol
Needs more lift and bigger tires 🤣
They (Subaru) also missed the part where forums are roasting Subaru’s inferior CVTs …
This actually exceeded my expectations! Subaru really did listen and I think the outback wilderness is perfect for more off road capability without having to go hardcore like a wrangler
Hardcore breakdowns with the jeep to clarify further lmao. Jeeps are absolute shite for quality
Damn that’s an impressive 0-60 for a car that weighs that much, putting down similar numbers to a lighter WRX. Personally I’m not much of a Subaru guy but this specific vehicle is a great jack of all trades.
Could've been going downhill.
Or it is legit that quick.
@@chuckwalla2967 Even if it was in the 6s for 0-60 thats still super impressive for what it is.
3900 lbs is pretty light
Great review. Genius of Subaru picking out that course and the river section. Your reaction in the river was very authentic! 😄
The river part got me sold. This car is much more impressive than I thought it would be.
It's not a river. It's a shallow creek. And as long as the carburetor is above the water, any engine in any ride would stay running.
@@AncientCreature-i2o You really have no idea about why subaru's are so popular.
@@AncientCreature-i2o Carburetor? Really, what year is this 1975?
@@AncientCreature-i2o You only need the air intake above the water. As long as you're getting air and not sucking water in to the turbo this thing will run. And lol at "Carburetor". There hasn't been a mass produced car with a carburetor in 40 years.
The real test of the river was the rocky bottom. You could tell the outback was going over some really big rocks under the water and handled it very well.
I need this so I can never take it off road.
😂
Wow what’s a great review! I can’t believe you made it through the stream! I was nervous for you lol
Don't worry everyone. They will be coming to your dealer soon. SOP ( Start Of Production ) is next week. We will be hitting it hard to get them to you. Oh yeah, I work at the factory. lol
tnx Terry in advance
Terry Keith...... SUBARU production line in what State... ???
I want to work at the production line...
How much over dealer cost do u pay as an employee? Or off of msrp? What color looks the best in real life?

I have been very pleased with my Limited XT with some aftermarket updates and bet the Wilderness will be a nice out of the box with warranty option.
The day Subaru would come up with an ‘Outback Wilderness Touring’ version it would take the auto world by storm.
Seems crazy how much 1 inch ground clearance makes a difference visually and practically.
I saw one driving around Park City the other day and it looked incredible, super aggressive.
Also has bigger tire setup so it’s higher then a standard outback
Great video. Hearing you cuss..... Priceless
his smile at the end of the riven... Priceless. ahah because he didn't drown
I was super impressed by how it waded a freaking river, a super narrow path through the river, and pretty much doing what a jeep would but of course in a wagon
Your most action-packed RUclips video yet, Sofyan. Multiple censored *beeps* with the best line "Oh my God, I'm actually driving through a friggin' river right now!". I love your videos on motor vehicle reviews. Keep up the great content.
Your fan and subscriber from Sydney, Australia.
Looking forward to perhaps another video in the Land Down Under.
Okay 99.98% of drivers in the US would never use the off road features this has. I can tell you in Colorado the Outback I think is given out when you get your license!! It IS EVERWHERE!!! Because you can get 15+inches of snow, you can also go into some insane off road trails here in sunny CO(Black Bear Pass)! But even then the outback can do most of what jeeps can. To get under armor, lift, better tires, better low end performance! This is what I and MANY Outback owners want!! TY Subaru! Not often does an automobile company make a better version of their #1 seller!!
Actually impressed that an off road course was that challenging. Now if they'll just make the forester version...
This is a much better course than the California course they have set up. Check out drivingsportstv for comparison
@@niuhuskieguy yeah, saw that review too. Not as difficult, but probably more realistic for the avg buyer. Glad to see lower axle ratio for better acceleration and hill climbs.
From what I understand a forester wilderness is in the works. Haven't been able to find out if the crosstrek or the forester wilderness is the next planned release. I went from a 2014 outback the to the 2020 forester sport and honestly find the forester to be a bit better with the approach and departure. That and the height the driver sets at makes a huge difference for me. If I would have heard about them planning the wilderness addition before I got the forester sport, I probably would have held onto my 2014 a while longer lol
That’s what I’m saying!!! Better approach and departure plus more torque phewww
The problem with the forester is the bouncy hwy ride. I know since I have one, 2015 XT, drives me nuts. This outback looks great though, longer wheel base.
This was very impressive!! Great capable car!! Good job on the review Sofyan you're a treat to watch
I'm glad they changed out the final drive. CVT made it gutless when you floored it from a dig. Also kudos for adding a tranny cooler. Should extend the life of the CVT.
Excellent and thorough review. The best one I've seen. How deep was the stream? I wish you would've had a shot from outside.
I wouldn’t take a lifted 4runner down a river. Whoever set up this this course is ballsy
Why not though? Is the 4Runner meant for that stuff?
4runners are capable of that 🙄
I’d take a Foreigner across a fjord
@@smellybearc7411 Layman here (definitely not speaking from experience) but I'd think it's one thing to have a course cross at a designated point, but quite another to have the vehicle run with the waterway. Unless they were REALLY sure of everything under the water level the entire segment, he could have dropped a wheel into a random additional foot deep trench and fouled everything up.
@@dwaaziwaazi... HAHAHAHA! awesome.
Great review. Thanks. We've had the top of the line, fully-loaded Outback Touring, but we love the 9.5" ground clearance on the Wilderness. You're right, we would miss the stereo, heated steering wheel and cooled seats, etc.
Never heard anyone call a Subaru horn meaty and aggressive 😂 Good review though!
So he DID say "meaty"...I thought he said "wimpy" because there was nothing meaty about that horn LOL...still, solid review :)
Didn't sound meaty at all
@@konacopia You have never heard a normal Subaru horn then lol
I thought he was going to say "a relatively solid sounding honk"
I suspect he had something else on his mind when he said "meaty". lol
I was frightened for you in the stream, but it worked just fine. Wow! Good stuff. I love my Forester even more now. Lol.
Subaru provides a real off road course for demo with a creek/river , that's awesome level of confidence in their product.. i must say , that was awesome and great review!! Kudos!
As a Subaru fanboy, I am disappointed that they didn't include the HK sound system on this model; Especially if the Moonroof, Navi, and RAB are part of a package. It just doesn't make sense to not include the HK system. Honestly, for the price point, 2.5 limited/touring and all XT models SHOULD have standard Moonroof, RAB and HK as standard equipment.
I’m so so bummed about this, I don’t get why they wouldn’t include that in the upgrade package.
@@katelynr7836 A 3 Subarus I've had have had the HK system. Any time I had a loaner without, I could hear a difference in it that made me appreciate it more. Just bought my first Honda, without an upgraded system and man do I miss it. Love the Geyser blue too.
River? Where I come from that is a creek. 😂 Nice review as always. Always liked the Outback.
Definitely need this for those shopping mall curbs.
Learn how to DRIVE.
Thorough review! Loved your genuine concerns going through the creek - high pucker experience HaHa!
Just bought a 2021 Crosstrek .. sofar with less then a 1000 miles I've lifted it 2" added 225/65 17" Toyo AT3's .. aluminum front skid plate and removed the resonator which hung down to low. I now have 12" at the rear axle! Heading to Moab this coming Tuesday to try it all out!
My mom's Honda Odyssey drove through a flooded street once after a tropical storm when I was growing up. Modern cars can deal with water better than you think
@@EpicDrew15 the Fiats would just light up like a Christmas tree after all the ground terminals corroded away...
Fantastic video ! I'm subscribing and now going to buy this wagon / car / suv because of you .
I would’ve pissed myself if I was told I had to drive through that river 😂
Awesome review! Did Soyfan do a hair flip motion after making it thru the creek? LoL
Suuuuper 😂
At 3:07 when you opened the tailgate, you hear a motor... at first I thought Whaaaaa? A lift gate with an engine to open it? Then I saw the buggy in the background... LOL! The timing was perfection!
What do you think powers automated tailgates? Magic?
@@jessebrinker3706 - Electric motors. Please don’t be a dolt, listen to the motor in the background. LOL!
Damn that river driving was intense! I want one now
Excellent driving and water review 👏🏼
Yeah missing the Harmon/Kardon is definitely an option that it needs to have.
I agree that's why I'm going with the Touring model instead.
I REALLY wish you have the footage from outside while you were drivering in the river!!
The 6 inch deep creek lol what a joke
@@vilhelmstein2091 looked like the water went to the top of the wheel weals
The modern day AMC Eagle, looks much nicer I must say.
Definitely nicer looking! I had an 89 eagle that I remember laying in the snow to change out a starter on! She was a tank when she ran tho!
Great and thorough review! Agreed on the stereo. Wish they'd put a better stereo in them standard.
I don't comment often, but I have to say even less often do you see a reviewer truly taken by surprise like he was hitting that waterway. Short of Doug DeMuro nearly tweaking a Hellcat off the road I can't think of the last time I might have used "nail biter" in describing a test drive! Great Vid!
Got the pearl white w black trim!! It drives great and is pretty amazing! I’m going to a few state parks soon to check out the camping sites and going to try the Napier Sportz Cove 61000 tent attachment. I haven’t driven a lot in a couple years and I love driving this.
I'm impressed by the Wilderness Edition videos. It was more than I was expecting. The only really annoying thing about Subaru is their insistence that people that like to Land Trek don't appreciate high end sound systems. What the heck is that all about? But as Subaru probably guessed, it's not a deal breaker. It just makes me mad. Databyter
High end sound, cooled seats, and less touch screen bs would be ideal. And no more fake shifts. Let the stupid cvt be a cvt and beef it up like necessary. Fake shifts are only added computer function that can f up later anyway
Very good and thorough review. A family member just bought one. It's not going to go where a built jeep with lockers and tires will, but for what it is, I'm pretty impressed. Should do excellent on the beach and rough trail roads while being much more comfortable when you're not on the trails.
Good driving my man 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👍🏾
Beautiful and capable! I'm normally a SUV guy but this is one of the few station wagons that I would love to drive for long term!
I might be in love actually. Considering going from 2015 Audi Q5 to this 🙂
i'm impressed. i'm digging that car big time. great review.
Dude had me laughing through the "friggin river" part. Good review!
im 30 n about to buy my first new car and this is what im looking at im just a bit worried about the cvt if i decide to run a cobb access port, intake , exhaust. but i love the fact its able to do a bit of everything . awsome review
Sofyan - excellent demo review, got a kick out of your driving through the stream. Thought you did pretty well except for one thing....
After you returned to the car staging area, did you check the engine's air intake for brook trout?
BWHAHAHAHAHA!
Im glad they put a cooler for the trans. TFL reported the cvt overheating on trails. Im legitimately impressed with this car.
Iv e not read of hheard anyone else mention this, im not even sure its true, think he just got mixed up with the drive ratio change and said trans cooler for some reason
@@Cringer101 on another video they took the cvt up a trail and the dash was warning of trans temp
@@Cringer101 the fast lane was the one that reported it, not soyfan, sorry if it got confusing
As always love your critical eyes. I have been asking about a CVT cooler! Thank you for mentioning it others were not aware about its I would love to hear more about that new cooler! Looking for a cross compatible option possibly be an aftermarket maker.
You can get aftermarket trans coolers at least back to the 2018 Outback (I was looking at it for my car)
Fantastic review, funny and informative!
I love your videos and I share your videos bro 🤟🏿
9.5 inches wow! My next car :) Thanks for the info! Time for a second Outback.
The last thing Subaru needs to do is add locking differentials and it will be a rock climber. Till than modders will have to do it themselves.
Bro I was scared for you with that rock and tree in the river. lol
Great review and very informative but you really need more video coverage of the car from the outside while doing the on road and off road driving m
360 review. Top work. Keep it coming
Very enjoyable video. Thank you!
I commented too early lol man you you drop a s### twice in one review it’s a good sign!!! Put a smile on your face!!
Interesting review! Thx!
Wow i like this review out all the review for this car. The reaction in the river is a seller.😆
Great vehicle. Great review. Thumbs up! Would be nice if it had cooling and memory seats like the Touring, especially the cooling, but my main problem is that it has no wireless charging. You said something that sounded like there might be an after market option to add that so I need to find out about that. I personally do not like the dual tone colors on any vehicles, though your point about that front hood dual tone helping with sun reflection does sound good; but I would likely get the all black exterior in part to mask that dual tone. I wonder if the AWD is a fixed 50/50 front/rear, or if like some others there is a bias to front or rear, like a 40/60 front/rear, fixed or otherwise.
People will buy these. I was shocked to find out how many people take these off road so I’m sure those folks will be even happier
Thanks for the review! I'm picking my 2023 up on Wednesday!
Just curious, when you did the 0-60 was it with traction control on or off?
I wish you had some external cameras as well - during the river, hill ascent / descent.
Good review otherwise. Thanks for the info!
Yeah his review seems kinda bs
I picked my up from Marino's in Etobicoke,Ont,Canada 1 month ago.......and I Love everything about it!!!
This is like the perfect upgrade for my older outback
I love my outback, minus the repairs. This one looked impressive!
Waiting for Forster wilderness edition after watching this video.
wait so there's no options for speakers? I really like my Impreza base hatch base speakers 2018. are those the same speakers? if so ill be ok with that. If the wilderness speaker is worse then dang
A nice big touchscreen to maximize the time you take your eyes off the road. Brilliant.
That looked fun driving threw the water 👍🏽
this outback is impressive! woah
I wished you showed the exterior view of the outback going through this trails.
I'm interested in this vehicle. If it came in matte olive green with black badging, I'm in. Good job on the review as always 👏
It does come in a sort of darkish green.
That thing can do all of that and for less money than a average truck would cost
And will be a lot more reliable too, well, maybe not more than the 4runner or Tacoma...
That was fun. Thanks for the video! :)
I am a hardcore offroader, that car is doing an amazing job in those conditions. I'm impressed, tempted.
I saw a bank of fine sand (used for bunkers) coming out of a golf course's parking lot and just went over it with the right side of my '19 Forester. That was the most off-roading I've done this year so far. I'll go camping a few times this summer so it'll be exposed to little more soft-roading.
LOL @ the river part. wow what an impressive vehicle!
Man that river part was no joke
"...I'm really driving through a freeking river..." @ 23:08
@Redline Reviews, Thank you for your awesome car presentations. There is a weaker engine version with 182 hp. I could find some videos which show that the weaker versions have much less off capabilities in comparison with the onyx and the wilderness. Can you confirm that?? Thank you and have a nice day, Tobias
This mans product knowledge is best I’ve heard so far. Excellent😀
When I’ll you be reviewing Infiniti’s new QX55 model
Do you know if this wilderness comes with cross bars for roof rack system? I want to install a Tent ⛺️
I want outside camera angle for this review
People have been doing this to their subs for ages. Subaru finally caught on.
Impressed in water fording!👍
This would be a nice vehicle to take to my family ranch. There is a 1 mile clay/dirt road with sections of gravel and extremely uneven with a couple of areas that hold water when it rains, I have no doubt this vehicle could go through it easily. Very nice
great vid
i love his reviews.. always
OMG you are driving on a River! How is the interior after driving on the river?
My 2013 Subaru legacy 3.6 R also does 0 to 60 in 5.8 due to the fact it when I ordered it I deleted many options such as the crappy navigation and sunroof that helps save me considerable weight!
That stuff doesn’t save any considerable weight...
Is your 3.6r Subaru as capable as the newer Subaru? I think the 2013 model less ground clearance and doesn’t have any trail mode option.

@@linnmagic I think so, it has the 5spd Auto with a wet clutch planetary gear set sending 55% power to the rear differentialat all times and when the computer detects slip it's 50/50 the newer cars are more fwd when slip happens they start sending power to the back.
They should offer a bigger sunroof, and better premium sound system.
Yeah, I want one. I love my 14' Outback, but the CVT really does suck- and I've heard that its gotten much better, especially her with a lower final drive ratio, but would still be nice to see a non-CVT in such a rig.
The Subaru CVT is about the best CVT in the industry. I've driven several - no issues or complaints.
Last week we went over Hurrah pass in Moab in our stock Outback XT with no issues. Getting 20+ MPG offroad is great!

5.85s is pretty quick for a CVT vehicle, I’m strangely drawn to the wilderness videos. Gotta love the speed and ride height.
