Edit: it's a 2022 obviously, I just caught a case of the dumbs while I was rambling. Also, I'm sorry the birds and wind were so annoyingly loud.
Awesome, thanks for sharing. I just got an Outback Wilderness and looking at ideas of gear setups.
Have been eyeballing the Subi Outback for a while now. These after-market gear you've got on here makes it looks even cooler. I too would like to see if someone offers up the front brush guard to mount a winch (and more lights). 😊 Thanks for sharing.
Sweet! Thanks for sharing. Keep it coming
You bet!
Nice build definitely more than I'll ever do! I got the extra large Thule I haggled it from the dealer bout the only kind of discount I could get 😆 I'm waiting for the weather to break so I can put this hitch I got off etrailer on. I also got tints from crux but mine are smoke Black for the rear reflectors. And honestly besides one day upgrading the tires the only other thing I want to do is change out the audio system and add a subwoofer that I can disconnect easily when I want to pack up for a long trip.
Wow this is awesome and helpful. I just got a 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness and and look for upgrades and mods this is great. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks! Check out the 2 year review I just posted
Great video! Thank you for sharing! I don't have an Outback Wilderness yet, but I am looking at getting one next year.
Good choice!
great job ! I'm a Jeep guy and I think this will be my next ride !
Same here, I have a 2014 Sahara Unlimited. Getting crazy resale value, even better than I though I would, taking this for a test drive tomorrow.
If this had Cooper AT3 XLT Tires I’d be happy as a pig in 💩.
In deep snow mud mode, I hear if wheel spin speed is over 30mph? It has a hidden mode that just throws mud and snow. Can anyone confirm? Thanks :)
I just got mine yesterday in white!
Keep up the good work!
Your channel will grow in no time!
Hope so! Thanks
Awesome ride! 👍👍👍
Just started watching you.. love your channel & thanks for all your info.!
I just posted an updated video. Check it out!
Thanks for the shout out, build looks like it's coming together well!
I'll be filming an actual review this coming weekend and the mountains.
Bro that is a sick build! Great job!
'preciate it bud
Looks great!!
Awesome build! Stoked to see what’s next. Have you thought about amber deletes and tinting rear tail lights or maybe custom emblem decals from Orsini Vinyl? Would look 🔥
Definitely looking for decals. I'll likely leave the gold accents but I'd like some door graphics but I'm having a hard time finding something that will work with the extra door cladding I have.
I have been planning to put in an order for a 2022 WRX and make an off-road build but after stumbling on your channel, I might just go put in an order for an OBW.
I test drove an OBW a couple months ago but during the test drive, I didn't feel like the seat was comfortable. The seat part seemed a bit short and didn't provide enough leg support. I heard you say in one of your other videos that you found the seat to be comfortable though. I'm in north Texas and drive up to Colorado to hike/camp about every other month so I need something with a comfortable seat for those long drives.
Great content, I've subscribed. Looking forward to seeing what else you do to this.
Looks sick! I'm saving up for a gen 5 outback to do up a bit like this
gonna be sick
Great job !
Thanks!
Nicely done! Enjoy & be safe Out there...
I just posted an updated video. Check it out!
Nice setup. 2024 Outback Wilderness here. Leaving it stock.
I just posted an updated video. Check it out!
Good vid! Mine is being delivered in a couple of weeks. I'm sold on it, but am curious what the things you said you don't like about. Thanks!
Nice build! I owned a 14' JK prior and have had the same OBW for about a month now. Love it already! Only mod so far are mud flaps from Rallyarmor.
I just posted an updated video. Check it out!
Just got one the other day, cant wait to go camping!
Congrats! You are going to love it!
@@OBWAdventures can confirm really love this car
I have the same color OBW. Love to see it!
I just posted an updated video. Check it out!
Add mud flaps! Straight 🔥 bro
Done! I added the Rally Armor mud flaps and they look/function great.
Just switched from a jeep to an Outback. Looking to do a similar set up. Looks good 👍🏻
How are you liking the outback? I'm looking into getting one soon.
@@chrisgulbranson5867 I don’t do as much wheeling as I did in the jeep. But it fits my needs perfectly. It’s a much more comfortable ride than the jeep. And it’s more than capable of getting me to camp sites in the summer and the ski resorts in the winter
@@AndrewHartman94 Right on! I need something comfortable that can handle snow. I've always had hatchbacks but need something easier to get into than my VW as I have knee and back issues. Other than missing having a manual transmission it seems like the perfect vehicle.
Great video, thanks for the video! I have a question for you do you mind telling me what space is left over on the roof rails after you installed the basket? I am trying to see about getting the Thule xforce Sport and that yakama basket. Thanks again for the great video!
More than half
Awesome video! Thanks for breaking it all down! I’m love the hood lights, do you happen to have a link?
www.orbisoverlanding.com/product-page/dark-defense-dds4-2-0-45w-4200-lumen-3-off-road-pod-lights
Great video and items to carry with you. PS got a nice camera? You have a red tail hawk, or Osprey throwing a hissy fit in your video! Entertaining to hear in the background!
Yeah, we have Red Tailed Hawks all over the place here.
I’ve got a Maverick on order but my goodness these are tempting. Especially if the order time turns out to be under 8 months or whatever maverick is at now haha
That's a tough choice but I have been super happy with my OBW
I was holding out for the new Z but this things too rad.
I was wondering if the orbis rack wing would work on an outback, I think they sell it as a crostreck upgrade. Great to see.
Yuuup
Just found your channel man. One of the most kitted out OBW I’ve seen so far. Got mine last year looking to do a similar build to yours. How did you mount the awning to the Thule bars?
It came with everything besides the Thule cross bar bolts that are on Amazon.
Nice!
I just posted an updated video. Check it out!
I hadnt seen it in the magnetight yet... Looks dope
I originally wanted white or autumn green but I have grown to love the Magnetite.
Great review man and really nice rig!
Had a quick question for you. Do you could fit a cargo box up top next to that Skinny Warrior?
We have a crosstrek and we are trying to make the most of the space we have for an upcoming trip.
Thanks in advance man!
Cheers!
For sure. ROAM has a couple that I really like that would fit up there (if I didn't have kayak racks up there).
@@OBWAdventures right on man!
Thanks for the heads up!
What size box would be a good fit do you think?
Hey brother. Love the vid. Just posted my first outback wilderness vid myself. Looking at a similar design. Ditch lights are going on soon and I like the fuel can setup
Nice! I've subbed and I'll check out your video tomorrow!
very cool👍👍👍

nice looking rig!
I just posted an updated video. Check it out!
Only thing I don't like about my OBW is lack of physical buttons for climate control and x-mode. Thanks for the inspiration on some aftermarket stuff to put on mine.
Yeah certain functions should be left with physical switches or knobs. Manufacturers these days get carried away with screen controls. It's no different than texting and driving and can be dangerous.
I definitely like the infotainment, controls, X mode selector and the CD player featured at the Forester has. But the Forester wilderness doesn't have the turbo motor that the outback has.
Can you do a vid on how you installed the ditch lights?
This is awesome!
Please show more possible mods😁
As soon as I can afford them :)
I need this one now
Yep. Get one.
Cool
Thanks!
Sweet ride. I have one in white. That's a 2022 though btw.
Yeah, I subconsciously said 21 since that was the year I was in.
Good info, where did you get the yellow fog lights? I have been looking for them.
Which ones? The ones in the bumper are stock, they just have lens tint from Cruxmoto on them. The ditch lights near the windshield are DDS4s from Dark Defense (purchased from Orbis Overland). Both are great.
Great video, I did not read all the replies below, but how do you mount the lights? did you need a special bracket, or plate or adaptor? the site photo bracket does not look conducive to under hood mounting
I used the LP Aventure ditch light mount. Took 5 mins to mount both.
Nice adventure vehicle setup. How did you mount your maxtrax in the roof basket? I just mounted a half basket to my OBW and I don’t know what hardware I need to mount my maxtrax in it. Thanks!
I just got some long bolts and nuts from Lowes and a couple pieces of flat aluminum stock. I drilled holes in the aluminum stock (2"x8"x0.24") and used two of them on the top of the boards and two on the underside of the basket, and ran the bolts through to old them one. On the bottom is a regular nut and on the top is a threaded knob.
That’s a bad ass Subaru for sure!!! How is the wind noise on the basket and stuff?
It's really not that noticeable with the windows up and the moonroof cover closed. My car is 1000x quieter on the road that my wife's 4-door, hard-top wrangler and it's bone stock with nothing mounted on it.
Well done. Great build. Saw the rear plate. Thanks for your service.
I just posted an updated video. Check it out!
You need some sweet new tires. I've got 245/65R17 BFG K02 tires on my stock wilderness and they look awesome and don't rub anywhere. Highly recommend! You do lose a touch of gas mileage but the ride quality is just as good and the road noise is minimal. Doesn't fit in the spare tire well tho
Thanks for the tip
@@OBWAdventures
👍 I like what you've done so far, looking forward to updates
Nice rig, I did lot a of upgrades to my crosstrek 21 sport, thinking about the wilderness trek coming now 🤔 or maybe the outback
Outback = turbo
@@OBWAdventures oh yea..👍👍 it would be nice if they put that on the cross trek 2.5, subie is very mysterious all the time. But def. A nice outback
@@overwatchtactical888 thanks. I think it's pretty unlikely that they will put a turbo in the Crosstrek if they didn't put one in the Forester
Would also be badass if they came out with the ascent in a wilderness package
Nice build. Did you buy with the hitch or did you install yourself?
I had it installed at the factory when I purchased.
Will those those thule crossbars fit the rails on a forester wilderness? Love the build!
I would assume so but it's just a guess
the thule aero extend are the factory option for the FW crossbars
Nice setup!! How did you mount your awning in your cross bar? Did you drill a hole?
Answered in the other comments

Love the car and video! Excellent job! Can you post a link to the Lasco Ford offering for the Skinny warrior? Not sure if I’m searching the right place or maybe they just aren’t offering it anymore.

@@OBWAdventures awesome, you’re the man! Apparently my Google fu is weak. All I could find was their cargo platform perimeter fences of various sizes!
Thanks again and keep the videos coming 🤘🏼
@@OBWAdventures Apologies but one more quick question. Concerning the Yakima basket mounting to the Thule cross bars…. Does the mounting system for the skinny warrior work directly with the Thule aero bars or did you have to order separate mounts than what is provided with the Skinny Warrior (assuming the skinny warrior comes with mounts included or course)?
Thanks again for your help man.
@@HesperianHorsePower the basket comes with everything you need to mount.
A boomer at 40 ? 😂 Love what you did with your Subi!

Heck yeah you did, lol. My folks live up there (in Parrish) so we met them at the Chinese buffet.

How did you install lights on your hood ?
LP Aventure ditch light brackets and a wireless relay from superbrightleds
I think the links to both are in the replies to other comments if you want to check them out
thanks for the sharing... I recall I read that if you have hitch installed, don't tow with rings that screw in, can you pull out or tow out with the D ring hitch? Not that a OBW would ever get stuck...
I have to take the ring mount out.
I just posted an updated video. Check it out!
good vids, very helpful for me building a '24. if you would post a photo, or general install w/ hardware needed for your awning.
thanks for sharing all of your very useful installs. I'll follow
It came with the brackets. The only thing I had to order was the screw set that mounts within the channels of the Tule bars.

Can you post the link on where to get the skinny rack I couldn’t find it the way you said to look for it

Curious why you went with the Thule crossbars instead of a Yakima Timberline system. I have owned Yakima for years, but wondering if I should try Thule out.
It was an option from the dealership which made it very simple.
@@OBWAdventures I thought so. They had them on my Wilderness when I bought them. Unfortunately they didn't forget about them when I bought it.
Great vid what’s your MPG 2 months later? Thanks
It varies with how a drive. Usually between 18.5 and 21 mpg.
@@OBWAdventures man pretty crazy I get 18mpg on my 5.0 f150. Hmm been deciding between the wilderness outback or getting the Crosstrek and lifting it like most built you see out there for camping.
Semper Fi, brother. I picked up my OBW on Monday in Birmingham. I have driven a pickup for the past 20 years and decided the OBW would fit me better.
I am getting ready to order my OBW. I still am stuck on 2 colors though. I like many others like the Geyser Blue, however I think I will eventually see this color a lot on OBW’s on the road as well as the color sticks out a lot (pros and cons there). I like the Gray, as you are right how it blends together well with the cladding, however my current vehicle is that color. Still debating. What do you think?
I originally wanted white but the gray was immediately available and I'm glad I went with it. Honestly, I like all the colors besides the blue lol. The green might be my favorite. I love the high contrast of the white but I also love the low contrast of the gray. Silver is great too. The only two I'm not super sold on are blue and black (but I'd happily drive either). I'm sure whatever you get will grow on you and you'll fall in love with it.
I have a 2023 outback I just recently got. Thinking of getting a roof basket and a full front bumper bull bar. Any recommendations?
I really like the Yakima baskets (the warrior and skinny warrior, depending on how big of a basket you want). I'm planning on getting the CAtuned front bumper bar (and hidden winch mount) at some point. Check them out.
Does your headlights have Crux tint as well? If so is it 25% or 50%
No tint on the headlights
What is the brand of the yellow lock you have the shovel locked up with
It's just a lock that came with a firearm. www.ebay.com/p/1726276851?iid=233935001815
what material are the tow hook covers made of?
If you are talking about the orangish-copper rectangles on the the bumpers, they are painted plastic.
Do you carry all this stuff on the car at all times? It looks a lot of weight if I'm also using it to get to work on a daily basis. I hope the top attachments (tent and recovery gear) are easily removable. The power unit, I do carry in my car 24/7. I've ran into dead battery situations 3 times in a year and was in the position to help out because of it.
Yep.
You know any roof tents that fits this car? I have a forester wilderness, too, but I want to get ideas from people that has the wilderness.
I'm not sure what specific models fit but I've seen plenty of them on Instagram with tents mounted. I think you'll be fine with any in terms of weight. I'd just compare the footprint of the tent floor with the width and length of your roof (without obstructing the windshield, the rear hatch in the open position, and however far you want it hang over the sides of the car).
where did you buy the DITCH LIGHT FROM WHERE
Orbis Overlanding
Just wanted to check in with you. We have an Outback Wilderness edition and been having problems with a drain on its battery because unfortunately the car is always active. With the aftermarket addition like the lights, have you updated your battery and if so which battery did you upgrade to. Thanks
I've had no drain issues.
I just posted an updated video. Check it out!
Do you have to take out the ditch lights to pop the hood open?
Nope. The hood completely opens without any clearance issues. I don't even take them off to go through the car wash. Lol
Man it’s tough finding rubber mats for Subaru outside America. Based here in nz :(
I just posted an updated video. Check it out!
Semper Fi. I'm getting a Forester Wilderness, but it's not going to see the type of off-roading my Jeep Wrangler did.
Yut! Enjoy!
What made you decide on the Forester wilderness?
@@650tonyd I was looking at the Forester and Wilderness was the only trim available at the time. Almost six months later and I really like the car.

I'm not sure.
I traded in a 2019 Forester for my 2022 OBW. The dealer told me that my Forester crossbars would not fit. New crossbars are not cheap!

How would this compare to a “real” 4x4? Seems you invested a lot in it for off roading, would it have been better to start with a 4x4 off-roader?
what do you mean by a "real" 4x4? there are lots of cars with 4x4 branding that are pretty incapable off-road. Companies can decide unilaterally how they designate their 4x4s, so the jeep compass and renegade are labeled 4x4s even though they don't have mechanically locking diffs or a low range. In my experience, Subie's full-time AWD easily beats your typical part-time 4WD with locking diffs and low range in bad on-road conditions. In these situations, you're cruising at speed and worried about mud/snow/ice on the road. Part-time 4WDs can't engage locking diffs and low range at speed and other part-time AWD systems are reactive rather than proactive which means that by the time the AWD engages, you're already in trouble. In off-road conditions it's a mixed bag. Subies aren't built for rock crawling, that's for sure. They'll still beat a lot of older 4x4s on flat trails in mud and snow conditions though because you usually want varying degrees of wheelspin to maximize traction. Overall, the OBW and FW are built to be overlanders, not off-roaders.
It's certainly not an equivalent machine as something like a Jeep Wrangler (which I also own), a Tacoma TRD or other popular "true 4x4" rigs. That being said, it's 100% capable of the sorts of things I want it to do. I'm not really looking to take it on rock crawling trails (even though I have taken it down a "4x4 only" trail in Chattanooga and it performed surprisingly well in situations any stock 4x4 would have been challenged by). I like the look of the car, it's technology, the way it rides, and the "cool factor" of having something different. I see 50 Jeeps and Tacomas/4-Runners every time I leave my house. I've never seen another car like mine in person (and only a handful of stock Wilderness Editions).
There's sort of "two kinds of cool" when you think of stuff with practical purposes. The first is the ability to fulfill the purpose itself. Can it do what you want it to do/what it claims to do. The second kind of cool is the intrinsic excitement it offers. Does it make you feel something? For me, this car is a great balance of both kinds of cool. It does what it claims, it does what I want it to do, all while offering me the intrinsic excitement of making me feel something when I look/use it.
I have a 4-door Jeep Wrangler with bog knobby tires. It's a better true off-road machine but it isn't nearly as pleasant to be in and it doesn't give me the same sort of daily excitement. The 0.01% of the time I might find myself in a situation it might be better in than my car doesn't justify the other 99.09% of the time my car is better (for me).
why you did not buy the 4Runner? Curious to know.
It doesn't have any soul. I wanted something different. The stuff I have a blast with now would be boring in a 4Runner.
What is fuel mileage like with Rack? Do you get wind noise?
There isn't a ton of noticeable wind noise. I average around 19.5 to 20 miles per gallon. I also drive 80 to 85 on the highway so I'm sure it would be better if I would slow down.
@@OBWAdventures thanks
