try rendering your scene with branched path ray trace rendering engine like vray, octane or cycles instead of physically based engine like mental ray, with high samples. Fyi, I own the same laptop and it takes forever to render with just 64 samples with square samples checked, and even that is achieved by using 2d background instead of 3d environment.

my parents are divorced and i go back and forth between both houses so i personally need the portability of a laptop. yes i could get two desk tops but that would later in the end be more expensive than buying one laptop. and being in school it helps to have a laptop where you can play games in class if the teacher is going over things you already know.

Yes talk about the biggest nerd porn Laptop and say that gaming Laptops are not worth it. I travel alot, I game alot and I really cant care less if some Desktop users argue why Laptops are useless. If they wouldnt exist I would be doomed.
Besides that, who the fuck still thinks that we game on battery, thats like thinking I love to rape my battery. I dont buy a gaming Laptop, to Play crisis for 30 mins on battery I Play on a Laptop because mine is a portable Desktop power Laptop. I wont carry around a Desktop, a Screen and 3 peripherals with me because they are more silent. Why is this so hard to understand.
    Performance wise:
-Yes you have noise if you want to game, Id rather have that than a burning table, but who games without a Headset nowadays, also "serious Shopping" mate what does that even mean do you shop so much u Need a gtx 1080 to run Explorer??
-New nividia Cards lost the M for a reason, so what I loose 5-10fps bc its in a Laptop, still better than carrying 6 Things around.
-Components can be switched, I dont know where you heard that. you can Change ram hdds' and ssds' Ok you cant Switch your cpu or deceide to watercool it, but until then you can buy a new one. (what you wanted to upgrade right away? why did you buy this Laptop then?) Also external gpus will be cheap as fuck soon so we can use that incase we wiggle our Jimmys and Need new powa to feel manly again
    - Screens: sure it will stick with me, but I bought mine and I made sure it had a nice Screen at the start, If you dont like it wait and look for another Screen or get a big one and stick it in your HDMI port in your Laptop.BTW the same can be used on Desktops:" oh hey I bought this Screen for my Desktop Setup but I dont like it, lets buy a different one and stick the cable into the connector" same principle in a Laptop.
I work alot I travel alot and I game alot, I have a gaming Laptop, If you Need mobility and want to do good ol' lan parties with your buds without carrying around Hardware than search well and buy one, BUT PLEASE for gods sake stop coming up with silly excuses why gaming Laptops arent worth it, its starting to Sound like anti-gaming Propaganda and their stupid reasons why games are sooo bad for you.

I am a proud owner of a 2014 model MSI GE60 Apache Pro. I think gaming laptops are a really good idea and I certainly would not have anything else. I mainly use my gaming laptop for emulation and the odd AAA title that I wish to take on the go with me. The Intel Core i7-4810MQ coupled with a 128GB mSATA SSD makes everyday takes snappy and super responsive, whilst the NVidia GTX 860M 2GB graphics card is more than capable of playing most modern AAA titles at 720p, 900p or some even 1080p (depending on the game) at Medium-High settings at 40+FPS is more than enough to satisfy my gaming needs (infact that GPU is the exact equivalent with what you would find in the Xbox One console). However more importantly, having a gaming laptop gives me more benefits over having a custom desktop rig, be it having the ability to socialise with friends and family whilst gaming, take modern gaming titles on the go with me, watch movies on the go with friends and family on a decent size screen or even just get some Vitamin D benefits when surfing the web makes a gaming laptop beneficial to me. :-)

I fully agree that desktop is better preformance, I also would agree that laptops are more convenient to use. So as a student, laptops would be the better option for me, and a $1500 gaming laptop, (especially looking as the ASUS ROG series) you will be able to play the latest 2018 games with high graphics at more or less 60 fps. Desktops of course are often cheaper and has easier access for maintenance, and can be upgraded as specs for games rise. So I agree with PC Centric. IF you are in a situation to choose a desktop over laptop, THEN DO IT! But if you are not (Collage student, always going overseas, not often home, etc) then go for a laptop until you are able to compromise portability. :)

I disagree. When I tried to build a brand new desktop (along with a monitor, keyboard, office, win 10 etc.) it was more expensive than just buying a similar gaming notebook like Asus GL502VS (SSD, 120Hz Gsync monitor). I think Pascal graphics have changed the equation. The portability is great as well. Desktops are a dying breed imo. We will use notebooks in the future and just plug external monitors and keyboards in them.

Lukáš Havel windows is free. A desktop is miles better than a laptop when it comes to price to performance. Portability is one thing a laptop has over a desktop but upgradability is probably the best part of a desktop. And if you have a graphics amp for a laptop than it kinda removes the portable aspect that a laptop has going for it. Also only a few laptops support thunderbolt 3. Making it hard to find a reasonably price laptop that supports it. I saw a "gaming laptop" it had an Intel i7 and a gtx 1050. For $1000, that's terrible. You could build a desktop with the same specs for half the cost. So if portability isn't your main goal I'd get a desktop.

    • @kevincheddar8517
      @kevincheddar8517 7 лет назад +13

Daevster 666 Windows is not free. Also half price is a heavy exaggeration if you're building from scratch. The price of a brand new PC goes up to get everything you get from a laptop because you have to include things like Windows, a monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, maybe even an optical drive and web cam if you use that. Laptops conveniently have all that.

Both have their uses. I built my own desktop and upgraded it over time. I just recently sold my old laptop and bought a Lenovo Y520 gaming laptop. It's specs are pretty close to my desktop which is plenty for my gaming needs. I have the desktop for long term, but the laptop is great for my portable needs and playing some LAN games at friends houses which is what I really wanted it for.

Main reasons I got a gaming laptop three-odd years ago:
-old one needed replacing, and I wanted to finally get serious with 3D modelling, as well as play video games reasonably well.
-didn't know much about hardware at the time, didn't think it'd be too bad in the long run.
-room was due for redecorating, which involved a lot of wood dust. Mobility was required, just for a short while.
In hindsight, I kind of wish I'd gone for a desktop in the first place, because this machine has given me a lot of headaches in the meantime, even if it did give me much joy... for a while.
Best advice you can give anyone: do your own research, make your own analysis, but most importantly:
Never, ever, *ever* mistake a salesperson for a computer expert. Even if what they're selling is computers. Learned that the hard way.

GPU matches my desktop 1080 in performance and is upgradeable/replaceable. Same for ram, m.2 ssd's and hdd. CPU isn't upgradeable but let's be real here, a modern day i7 clocked at 3.5ghz or higher will be more than capable of playing games for a very long time. I do agree that upgradeability is a very compelling argument, but the thing is in a lot of countries the entry cost of a gaming laptop is actually less than a desktop (I'm in Indonesia, and everything here is pretty much twice the cost). Though it is true that over time the cost of upgrades is less than buying another laptop, but if you factor in electricity costs it would actually be pretty similiar (assuming that most people upgrade every 3 years, but here in Indonesia it's more like 5-6). And also that most of the people buying these laptops are students who have very limited budgets and would rather not pay for a laptop for school and a desktop for gaming.

Yes, I used to have and play on a gaming laptop... I travel a lot and cuz I have a lot of urgent business to take care of, the only downside is bringing a gaming laptop with you is like bringing another school bag on your front... But I still worth it that bringing a desktop to school and leaving it when you have a week vacation:D

I have a PS4 and I need something portable for on the go when am on vacation or college next year since am a final year high school student . Should I get a mid-tier laptop or build/buy a desktop PC . And btw am not actually converting to the “PC master race” am keeping my ps4 Idw to sell it cuz I really like it but I need to play pc and Xbox exclusives as well as older games and emulation . I don’t want a desktop since I already have a gaming console that is kinda similar to a mid-tier desktop pc . So I want portability , backwards compatibility and emulation , the pc and Xbox exclusives and more importantly for college/work .

i just joined a troubleshooting page for an opportunity to make some cash online, but the results of the problems speak for themselves, like i literally don't need to tell people anything alot of them are now becoming aware of how much problems laptops bring later, we would also get some help requests for desktop too, but i've only seen about 4 desktop problems every other one was some laptop model that just refuses to boot up, or the drive inside of it failed and even though these computers are supposed to be made for portability most users end up being more reliant on the chargers just to use their laptop because the battery dies. that always ends up defeating the purpose of having one of these machines.

As long as your laptop isn't under an inch thin you they already have a removable processor in your laptop. And it may even be upgradable. And lot tops with desktop 1050 TI's better soldered onto the board and they're the same size as low profile graphics card. I don't understand why laptops don't come with a low profile graphics card instead of a soldered on the board GPU. I mean come on I wouldn't cost more than a dollar and you can upgrade your GPU, and whatever manufactured did this be the first to do it so I don't understand why someone hasn't tried it yet.

I feel it depends on an individuals situation. I travel for work, don't have a desk or much room where I stay, and can on a whim have a chance to go home. I'm not going to be moving a desktop with its peripherals around with me. For me, a laptop makes sense. Even if I had a desktop, being able to take my game library with me, Netflix, and everything in between is invaluable. I'll sacrifice some power for portability any day.

kcolg321 for me it's actually a pretty good deal. I found a rare deal of a 930usd dell 7567 with I7 7700hq, gtx 1050ti, a pretty darn good thermal performance and great battery life with typical laptop use(obviously I wouldn't game on battery). This is a rare deal in the expensive country that I'm currently at. I want to play games and also have a laptop that I can carry to school and other places to do simple school works and other Word related projects and also to carry wherever I end up going and play some games over there.
I could've just bought a simple laptop or a chromebook for schoolwork and built a gaming PC for my gaming and other productivity (video editing, programming, etc.) desires, but in the country that I live in, you can't build a budget gaming PC for 700usd or less while the cheapest chromebooks I've seen were around 300-400usd.
In the end it turns out Dell 7567 at 900usd is a much better option for me here. It's got a faster performance than the cheapest (which is not even cheap) gaming PC that I could build here.
So no, your comment is half wrong. By half wrong i mean everyone will come from different preferences and circumstances which will change the worth of the product that they will buy.
Sure it's not as light as other nongaming laptops or chromebooks, but that's a sacrifice that I have already acknowledged and find reasonable for what else I'm already getting for what I'm paying.

Dell Inspiron 7559 user here. Considering that I travel a lot beterrn my home and my dorm in University, it's a must for me to have a gaming laptop for games, as well as for other tasks.
The irony is that, for my laptop, despite it being for gaming, it was my third time replacing it and there was a hairline crack between the W and E key, because I pressed too hard (I wasn't raging and bashing my laptop; it was just normal gameplay usage).

    Here's why I prefer laptops:
    1. No need for lots of extras:
If you buy a laptop, you'll only need to buy a mouse to game with it.
You don't need to buy a keyboard, or a screen or whatever.
    2. You can carry them easily:
If you can carry them easily, you can carry them to other places, so if you're in a different area for a long time, you can bring your laptop, and you can game on it.
    3. They're cheaper than gaming desktops:
Most gaming laptops are cheaper than desktops, and they're not much worse!

Right now im split 3 ways, laptop, prebuilt desktop or making my own. But making a desktop isnt as cheap if youre wanting to play good games. Plus learning how to make them is hard. And laptops are getting alot better, id say that the shittiest part is overpricing and not being able to upgrade. But besides that, laptops are catching up with desktops pretty fast.

As someone that has been building computers for a couple decades now, I will admit that I just spent a hair over $3k on a new gaming laptop. Why you might ask? Simple - I'm the target market (or at least a large-ish part) - I'm a truck driver. The portability of even the biggest, most obnoxious gaming laptop beats dealing with even a tiny mini ITX build due to the accessories. I can use my laptop in the truck if I want, and if I feel like it I can grab it and walk into a truck stop and chill out inside with a minimum of fuss.
This is a prime example of properly 'needing' portability, as mentioned in the video. I don't 'need' the computer, but I do need the portability of a laptop if I want one (even if said portability is lower than a thin and light).
    ;)

It's hard to beat a gaming laptop in terms of convenience. Having a full fledged computer, and your gaming system available in your backpack is amazing. Plus, if you're a Comp Sci student, having a mobile GPU lets you play around with multi-threaded GPU programming projects locally, without having to rent cloud GPU time (~$1 per hour).

What most people don’t say is the fact that having a gaming laptop is more efficient. If you leave with your parents that’s not an issue but if you have to pay the bills yourself you know what I’m talking about.

I had a digital storm Krypton Laptop for almost 5 years before it finally died. When I first purchased it I was convinced the small size and portability were worth the trade-off for upgradeable parts but as time went on I realized I was also sacrificing ease of repairs since I had to send it into the shop whenever there was a hardware issue (versus just fixing it myself or replacing a part at a much cheaper cost). While I did take my laptop with me on several outings, I found I rarely gamed much while away from home. Now that its dead I've decided going back to a desktop is for me. The cost-saving of self-upgrading and self-repairs trump my needs for portability - and if I really need a portable solution for work or whatever, I can always get a cheapo model at Best Buy.
