The whole 'pro' version thing is an excellent social-driven marketing strategy. 1. It keeps the product, as a whole, a relevant topic in the media. 2. It gives those who needed a little push the validation to upgrade from the previous generation (with an ego boost on their 'non-pro' gamers). 3. It scratches the itch for those who always want the latest of everything and those with FoMO (fear of missing out). Personally, I'll give it a miss for the same reason I skip phone upgrades. My current one is great and chances are that without side-by-side comparisons I probably wouldn't notice a difference.

People who have a regular ps5 are better off upgrading to a new tv in case they don't already have a 4k 2.1 vrr tv I dont play that many games but i know Gran Turismo 7 and avatar for example, are much better with vrr. Still sticking with the PS4 Pro for a bit longer. I upgraded the hard drive to an SSD since I’ve had it, and it runs faster than the standard. Definitely planning to upgrade to the PS5 Pro when it comes out!
There are only a few select games that can run on the PS5 and not on the PS4 Pro. Can't believe its been 3 years since the PS5 came out and has so few exclusives....not enough to entice an upgrade from the PS4 Pro.

There's no way there isn't gonna be a disc version. Way more people buy that than the discless version of the PS5 as it is. Sony said they had a whole slew of live service games in the pipeline a couple years back before Jim Ryan stepped down and the mishandling of Helldivers 2 and the flop of Concord leaves little to be desired. Every single player first party exclusive has played wonderfully on the ps5 and I’d say any single player first party games will still run well for the rest of this generation on the vanilla ps5 as well. There won’t be any ground breaking, monumental games until the ps6 era begins.

I just bought mine today, with ff7 rebirth I can say I was kinda mad that the only thing the discs are used for, is installing the game😢 it took 160 GB when the digital takes the same amount of space it makes me mad like why can't it install half the size instead n load datanoff the disc.. I'm gonna need a new SSD after buying 4-7 games 😭

So you’ll have a brand new console triple the power !! You should’ve also been saving $$$ not buying the ps5 earlier so you should worry about the price much all these years. The ps4 is still very good console so you can move it to another room and still use it for older games ps5 pro can be your main console. I don't care what the PS 5 pro looks like as long as their is an option to have a disc drive I will always prefer to play physical CD games because I don't want someone else taking control of what I want to play when I want to play it and I don't always want to rely on wifi for fun
Devs have said that it’s on par with the 7800XT I don’t know why they keep saying 7700XT it matches the 7800XT across the board except memory bandwidth and it beats the 7700XT in all areas across the board
Do you have a source on where the devs have said it's on par with the 7800XT? I haven't seen that and would be interested. The GPU specs that leaked match the 7800XT in core count, but with reduced clock speeds and reduced memory bandwidth (as you mentioned). It also has access to less dedicated VRAM than the 7800XT. I think it's reasonable to expect it will perform between the two. I also think the introduction of PSSR will make the Pro a more significant uplift in performance relative to the base model than the on-paper specs would suggest.

The pro is literally a cosmetic thing inly with extra storage. If anyone had the choice between pro and slim choose the slim everyday. The pro doesn’t even give the option of having a disc drive, and for the price you might as well go buy or start building a pc. The ps5 pro is a slim reskin with one tb of extra base storage marked up to $800 after taxes end of story. Go get a slim and get a 4 tb internal and have a disc drive.
Pro not worth it at this point, I’m waiting on the news on ps6. If the ps6 is a step up like how it was from ps3 to 4 then I’m upgrading till then no point because it just feels like an update like phone’s all it is your get some what the same features and new ones on top of that. Ever since I got my gaming laptop I haven’t touched my ps5 and don’t plan on it until dragon ball sparking zero comes out. Not worried about another console until switch 2 and then the ps6 comes out way later.

AyyJimmy!! The way I see it if the PS PRO is an SSD upgrade, it would hardly be an upgrade. Even if its a 4T SSD. How much improvement there is in this new “enhanced mode” is yet to be seen.
I like how it looks. I have the Slim with black faceplates. I'll get one at some point, $700 is a little steep. If I can put my disk drive on it and faceplates that would be awesome.

Keeping the pro looking like the slim is a pass for me the base PS5 looked better and it’s weird to say you think they need the look to stay the same the ps4 had multiple looks without an issue.

I'm still on the regular PS4 . One reason I haven't gone for the PS5 is , it really didn't grab me in , the other reason is , I would have to upgrade my TV . I would like a few options whether I should just hold for PS6 or go for a regular PS5 . I think the pro is gonna be possibly too expensive for me.
After the Pro i expect the regular PS5 will get a little price drop and discounts will come more often so the good about the Pro is that you will be able to find a regular PS5 cheaper. I don't think you need to care about your TV that much. I have an old HD TV, is not 4K or anything but i have a PS5. I am still enjoying playing the games and they still look awesome.

Looking at it i got the thought that they made it in a way to take the slim plates but because it had to be a little bigger therefore is taller the plates wouldn't fit so they put those three lines that take more space that one line takes on the PS5 slim and therefore reduce the height difference for the plates to fit. Therefore it seems to me the size of it will be between the normal PS5 and the slim. The depth can be bigger than the slim otherwise the plates wouldn't fit but it could be a little wider and a little taller.
Don't have a PS5 slim so i can't attest if this is true but my system is the 1200 revision of the big PS5. I got that Spider-Man PS5 that was released just before the slim came out so the insides are almost the same as the PS5 slim but in a bigger chassis and is whisper quiet and never overheated on me. Therefore if the slim has issues i assume is the smaller from factor that plays the difference by making airflow harder since my big one that is not that different from a slim inside has no issues what so ever.
I have two ps5 i am not going to deal with hardware issues and until the pro games come out i will wait until we get reviews i am not going to toot my horn until i see it in action.
This Gen I don't think I will be upgrading. Money wise I am saving for ES6 and what ever system it may launch on. Other than that I want the so called Switch 2. But until all that happens I'm happy with my OG PS5!

There is no 7700 xtx. I'm going to assume you mean the 7900 xtx. If you look at GPU Benchmark the 4080 beats it in every catergory (albeit by a small margin). The 4080 is ranked 3rd among all GPUs for effective speed while the 7900 xtx is 4th. That's just raw performance though. It doesn't take into effect how much better Nvidia is at ray tracing, upscaling, etc.
The ps4 pro didn’t look that much different than the ps5 slim so what are people complaining about? It’s not a next gen console it’s still one of this generation.
Upscaled graphics hmm... Sounds like what PS4 Pro did. Only difference being that back then it was only 100 dollars more than the Slim model that replaced the original PS4. Microsoft did better then with the One X giving native 4k to Sony's Upscaled version. I think history is going to repeat and we see a better console from Microsoft probably at 600 dollars.
Damn! I Just got a PS5, but tbf, I was expecting this anyways, since it's been in talks for quite some time. I will probably just get whatever I can out of this one, and eventually get a Pro, then just use this one as sort of a "functional spare" to play both PS4 and PS5 games that don't "require" or provide a noticeable boost in performance for my use case when the Pro releases, and/or use the extra storage space for some classic games and other apps.
Not a bad way. Personally i am not in a hurry to get it. I have system(it usually works around 4 years) which i buy this consoles and it works pretty well. I never buy anything on release. That helps me avoid all the issues that a first iteration of a system may have and the stress of trying to get one and fighting scalpers etc. The other good thing is that when i get a system there is software for me to use it instead of just having it there and waiting. I bought a PS4 in 2015 and only bought a PS4 Pro at 2019. Buying a Pro a year before a new generation consoles comes out might seem not very smart but it worked great for me because getting a PS5 was a nightmare the first years and there wasn't much software not to mention 99% of games were coming on PS4 as well. So my PS4 Pro didn't have only a single year of use as my main system but four because i waited until end of last year when i got the PS5. It was the last 1200 revision of the big PS5 so is the one with the less power draw and probably most reliability. Now i can get the PS5 Pro at a good price in 3 years. Sure PS6 will be close by then but i don't plan to stress myself trying to get a PS6 on release etc. So i will be using the PS5 Pro at least few years after PS6 release.
By all means this is the PS7. The 4 Pro was fooling no one. I hate that some is pulling this crap. Have developers optimize products for your console. You know.. like it used to be lol

The pro is literally a cosmetic thing inly with extra storage. If anyone had the choice between pro and slim choose the slim everyday.
The pro doesn’t even give the option of having a disc drive, and for the price you might as well go buy or start building a pc.
The ps5 pro is a slim reskin with one tb of extra base storage marked up to $800 after taxes end of story.
Go get a slim and get a 4 tb internal and have a disc drive.

Pro not worth it at this point, I’m waiting on the news on ps6. If the ps6 is a step up like how it was from ps3 to 4 then I’m upgrading till then no point because it just feels like an update like phone’s all it is your get some what the same features and new ones on top of that.

Ever since I got my gaming laptop I haven’t touched my ps5 and don’t plan on it until dragon ball sparking zero comes out. Not worried about another console until switch 2 and then the ps6 comes out way later.
It's almost a $1000 in Canada. You might as well buy a gaming laptop council. People do not care about super crisp. Clear graphics, we want our machines to be 5 to 6 hundred bucks and even that's expensi

AyyJimmy!! The way I see it if the PS PRO is an SSD upgrade, it would hardly be an upgrade. Even if its a 4T SSD. How much improvement there is in this new “enhanced mode” is yet to be seen.
I like how it looks. I have the Slim with black faceplates. I'll get one at some point, $700 is a little steep. If I can put my disk drive on it and faceplates that would be awesome.

It is not necessary as it was not necessary the previous generation. There are no arguments for it except the company's bottom line.
Keeping the pro looking like the slim is a pass for me the base PS5 looked better and it’s weird to say you think they need the look to stay the same the ps4 had multiple looks without an issue.
I'm sticking with my base PS5, I'm not spending $700-$800 for a PS5 pro. Plus I'm thinking about playing the Xbox series x console permanently. Plus with Xbox there are certain Xbox 360 games I want to get back into playing

I'm still on the regular PS4 . One reason I haven't gone for the PS5 is , it really didn't grab me in , the other reason is , I would have to upgrade my TV . I would like a few options whether I should just hold for PS6 or go for a regular PS5 . I think the pro is gonna be possibly too expensive for me.
After the Pro i expect the regular PS5 will get a little price drop and discounts will come more often so the good about the Pro is that you will be able to find a regular PS5 cheaper.
I don't think you need to care about your TV that much. I have an old HD TV, is not 4K or anything but i have a PS5. I am still enjoying playing the games and they still look awesome.

There should be, but not all games will be updated. I'm hoping for Pro patches for Dragon's Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 16, and Final Fantasy Rebirth.

How big do u guys think the pro will be i think it could be the same height as the OG ps5 but its gonna be a little more thicker to fit that sexy parts in there
Looking at it i got the thought that they made it in a way to take the slim plates but because it had to be a little bigger therefore is taller the plates wouldn't fit so they put those three lines that take more space that one line takes on the PS5 slim and therefore reduce the height difference for the plates to fit.
Therefore it seems to me the size of it will be between the normal PS5 and the slim.
The depth can be bigger than the slim otherwise the plates wouldn't fit but it could be a little wider and a little taller.
I have the ps5 disc edition, every game I “own” is digital. Pain.

Ps5 slim over heats and is loud. Not sure what they skimped on but it’s not as good as the larger version
Don't have a PS5 slim so i can't attest if this is true but my system is the 1200 revision of the big PS5. I got that Spider-Man PS5 that was released just before the slim came out so the insides are almost the same as the PS5 slim but in a bigger chassis and is whisper quiet and never overheated on me.
Therefore if the slim has issues i assume is the smaller from factor that plays the difference by making airflow harder since my big one that is not that different from a slim inside has no issues what so ever.
I have two ps5 i am not going to deal with hardware issues and until the pro games come out i will wait until we get reviews i am not going to toot my horn until i see it in action.
I'm waiting on PS6 Pro. My Ps5 dumped its disk drive within a very short while with little use. I'm not feeding the machine and end up with more junk.
This Gen I don't think I will be upgrading. Money wise I am saving for ES6 and what ever system it may launch on. Other than that I want the so called Switch 2. But until all that happens I'm happy with my OG PS5!

There is no 7700 xtx. I'm going to assume you mean the 7900 xtx. If you look at GPU Benchmark the 4080 beats it in every catergory (albeit by a small margin). The 4080 is ranked 3rd among all GPUs for effective speed while the 7900 xtx is 4th. That's just raw performance though. It doesn't take into effect how much better Nvidia is at ray tracing, upscaling, etc.

Hard to say the best AMD card is nowhere near Nvidias second best card when in rasterization the AMD card beats the 4080 a lot of the time.

Upscaled graphics hmm... Sounds like what PS4 Pro did. Only difference being that back then it was only 100 dollars more than the Slim model that replaced the original PS4. Microsoft did better then with the One X giving native 4k to Sony's Upscaled version. I think history is going to repeat and we see a better console from Microsoft probably at 600 dollars.

Damn! I Just got a PS5, but tbf, I was expecting this anyways, since it's been in talks for quite some time. I will probably just get whatever I can out of this one, and eventually get a Pro, then just use this one as sort of a "functional spare" to play both PS4 and PS5 games that don't "require" or provide a noticeable boost in performance for my use case when the Pro releases, and/or use the extra storage space for some classic games and other apps.
Not a bad way. Personally i am not in a hurry to get it. I have system(it usually works around 4 years) which i buy this consoles and it works pretty well.
I never buy anything on release. That helps me avoid all the issues that a first iteration of a system may have and the stress of trying to get one and fighting scalpers etc.
The other good thing is that when i get a system there is software for me to use it instead of just having it there and waiting.
I bought a PS4 in 2015 and only bought a PS4 Pro at 2019.
Buying a Pro a year before a new generation consoles comes out might seem not very smart but it worked great for me because getting a PS5 was a nightmare the first years and there wasn't much software not to mention 99% of games were coming on PS4 as well.
So my PS4 Pro didn't have only a single year of use as my main system but four because i waited until end of last year when i got the PS5.
It was the last 1200 revision of the big PS5 so is the one with the less power draw and probably most reliability. Now i can get the PS5 Pro at a good price in 3 years. Sure PS6 will be close by then but i don't plan to stress myself trying to get a PS6 on release etc. So i will be using the PS5 Pro at least few years after PS6 release.
