Sony is Deep in Dev on PS6
AMD landed the PS6 chip contract through a competitive bidding process in 2022.
They were competing against Broadcom and Intel
AMD got an edge because they were behind the PS5 and PS5 Pro chips
Sony is also heavily focused on backwards compatibility going forward, so working with AMD makes sense as they can maximize compatibility
Many sites are reporting that it would be the first three-generation compatible console from Sony but that’s untrue.
The PS3 launch model was compatible with PS1 disks, PS2 disks and PS3 disks and although the feature was removed in hardware revisions, Sony sold PS1 and PS2 games digitally on the console.
The PS5 is also compatible with PS1, PS2, PSP, PS4 and PS5 games so yeah, not really the big leap forward that’s being teased.
Going with Intel would have made ensuring back combat too costly and it would have taken up a ton of engineering resources that could be better served elsewhere
It apparently became a pretty tight conversation though as Sony met with the CEO of Intel along with dozens of their engineers and executives
Intel apparently asked for too big of a cut from each chip that they set aside for Sony
I’m glad Sony went with AMD over intel as in the PC CPU world, Intel CPU’s have been riddled with problems and AMD chips have matched and in some cases surpassed Intel in recent years
Microsoft thinks Sony won’t launch before 2028, but with Microsoft well into development on the Xbox Next with plans to release it much sooner, plans can and definitely will change.
We’re quickly approaching a point where Sony may just throw their hands up and consider the PS5 generation a half-mulligan
They could take some of the long gestating games from Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Insomniac and Santa Monica and punt them to PS6 since despite the major lack of First Party support this generation, the PS5 is selling extremely well
The risk there is of course that their hardcore base of users feel neglected right now and with the $700 price of the PS5 Pro , the focus on live service failures like Concord and potentially Fairgame$ and Bend Studios' upcoming live service title and the scalping situation that Sony didn’t do enough to alleviate, that base could turn out to be gunshy going into the next generation.
It’s still very early, but consoles take a long time to develop and manufacture so expect to hear a lot more about the PS6, especially once the PS5 Pro launches.

Won’t happen before 2029 this was started to take the air out of the PRO… which is horribly underestimated having experience with Sony’s AI in their cameras and TV’s, Cerny undersold PSSR, which I believe was done on purpose. They’ve been in control of the news cycle since the Xbox showcase.

I just want to let you know that i watch psready almost everyday. I was wondering if you could make a petition to get sony to allow the ps6 to be backwards compatible all the way back to the ps1. I heard that they plan on getting rid of disk drives completely for the ps7 generation. So I thought it would be great to have a new gen console be able to play games from every gen before disks become obsolete.

I wish I would have bought more hard copy games rather than digital downloads, I lost a ton of money on games when I sold my PS and moved onto PC gaming.
The majority of the PS community is trash and Sony have turned into tyrants, there's nothing they can do to "win me back".
From now i will only buy pro version. Ill keep my original ps5 until ps6 pro unless it breaks. Other than that ill skip 5 pro if that makes sense

When you're talking backwards compatibility as far as games with the PS5 I believe you forgot to mention that it's only capable of doing the other games through the PS plus service. PS4 games are the only physical games that can be played back on the PS5
And not a lot of them, ps3 was way more impressive with its implementation.

I think no one should buy the PS5 Pro. If Sony sits on the pile of console that no one is buying, they will have to lower the price.
In an alternate universe still no one will buy it as consoles are not meant to be upgraded frequently. It is a cheap, comfortable alternative to PC gaming and the standardized hardware platform should guarantee 60FPS games with optimized graphics.
In the past it was 6-7 years between PlayStations but now half generations at $ony only last 3-4 years. PS4, PS4.5, PS5, PS5,5, PS6, etc. We collectively became impatient. We all know people will slurp it up, GTA6 is coming soon

It's the _corporations_ and _private_ _equity_ _firms_ that ruined the economy by funnelling money out of the local economy into foreign holdings, by offering employees stagnating wages, and by maximizing profits in healthcare, housing, and food to such a degree that ignores the purpose these markets serve in society. _Politicians_ are guilty of diminishing employee rights.
Other factors influence the economy, especially since inflation is a global phenomenon. The PS5 Pro is expensive because of Sony's corporate greed, not politics.

I wouldn’t say that the PS5 is BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE with PS2 games, if I can’t get the PS2 games that I already own, pop them in and have it recognize what it is and start playing then it’s just a Port/Emulator. Just like I can play PS1 games on my vita, doesn’t make it backwards compatible 🤷🏻♂️
On a separate note I’m glad I own a PS2, PS3, PS4 Pro and have no issues playing the games I want!!!

I have no problem with the price. As a PC gamer, we've been shafted on prices for years now, mainly thanks to Nvidias greed. My problem is not enough games to justify it. Putting their games on PC and then asking that much for the Pro is crazy.
At the rate Microsoft is going, with their play their games anywhere and Game Pass ideas, I have a feeling they are going to stop making the Xbox console within the next couple years, probably sooner than later. As for the PS6, late 2027 to sometime in 2028 sounds fine to me. We honestly don't need it yet. Give us a little more time.
I'm ok with Xbox going the Gamepass route, I rarely need to buy games for XSX. I will just stream Gamepass on TV and buy the Switch 2. $ony needs to focus on developing games again, many good IPs are rotting in the basement

I mainly play my Switch nowadays and just hop on Playstation now and then because of that reason, but I love the few games that I play on there. You're right about that being a possibility of holding games back as cross gen between ps5 & ps6. I'd imagine there will be a lot of crossovers with the ps6 because how much of leap will the ps6 be with these diminishing returns? Like, they could make some cool controller or some reason to buy a PS6.
Excluding the $1200 price point in Australia, the issue I have is the lack of games that take advantage of the standard PS5 . I got the impression that the games shown at the pro launch were actually ps4 games. Or did I miss something here??

We're nearly four years into this generation and it just doesn't feel like it, to say it's felt underwhelming would be a deep understatement.
They need to give us more exclusives and stuff that the PS4 can't play at all and that runs amazing and looks fantastic.
The pro is basically a joke to me, we're still getting ports from PS4 or mildly upgraded remasters/remakes. It's just pathetic I can't understand why we can be halfway through a generation and it just feels so unbelievably anemic. What was the point of even coming into this generation if everything is just going to go to PC or be multi-platform or be poorly optimized.
In Sony's defense, during the scalping madness I received an e-mail from Sony to buy a PS5 directly. That's how I got one for MSRP.

This one single player game sold a lot. But you have to remember they spent that on 10 different games and 9 of them were flops. That is why they are making a push for live service. Something they can build quickly, because it doesn't have much of a story and it would be a continuous money generator. People, investors, want GTA5 online. But with a development cycle of only a couple of years as to these story based games with 5 to 10 year dev cycles and it's anyone's guess how well it will do on launch.
And concord was a $100 million because they bought the studio. My guess is that they wouldn't sell just the game Sony had to buy the studio to get it. Not realizing it was total Sh*t. Everything has it's risk.

He said TODAY that the ps5 Pro was supposed to come out next year, but a research division in the US leaked it early and was fired in consequence. That’s all. US Playstation employees got the Ps5 Pro revealed and released early lmao

If you're gaming, AMD chips can still be over-clocked with the right amount of cooling, which works well. I'm a huge fan of AMD chips!!!

Oh yeah the Portal 2 will come before the PS6 .

I am still playing on my PS4 atm and did not buy a PS5 because I was waiting for the Pro to see what it would bring. A large part of my games are physical copies, because I like to really own my games (not a fan of renting it for god knows how much time...?) and let's be honest, I'm a bit nostalgic of old generations of consoles.
There are multiple problems here in terms of marketing: they're selling a console with a premium price, without premium features. Maybe it's there in terms of hardware (but still it doesn't feel like a big gap between PS5 vs PS5 Pro). They should have had the same approach they had with the PS5 Slim: a digital version and a disc drive version. It would have made sens, and that way Sony could prevent the disc drive shortages we all see right now due to scalpers. And that would have sent a way better signal to the players that didn't took the step to the current generation yet.
The reason SONy hasn’t released many first party games is because they’re too busy fucking us gamers over…

It's so crazy that PS5 can't play PS3 games, yet Xbox Series X can play Xbox 360 game and most of those are upscaled to some extent. I've got SO many PS3 games and if I want to play them, I have to hook up my old PS3 Thankfully, it still works but only one of my DualShock controllers still works and its battery is clearly dying as I have to plug it in within the first two hours of gameplay.

High end, get yourself an OLED by LG. If you want the lower end then Sony makes some great TV's. Just make sure you get something with 120hz refresh rate.

I would say the Sony Bravia 9, or any OLED to be honest.
At least year or two ago when I stopped heavily following the tech LG OLED were the best. My Sony OLED (marketed "perfect for PS5") for example is totally useless for gaming thanks to aggressive dimming starting after 1 minute of gaming, so this is a complex question, and I would ask some professionals like HDTVtest or who was the guy, GamingTech? RUclips channel owner, this guy knows this stuff, what is the best gaming tv at the moment. Do not believe just anyone in the internet and do same mistake I did (Sony OLED). I did own LG OLED before that and it was better.
I'm talking about 83" A90J if anyone wants to know, so it was their flagship model for many years. Not some budget model.
I mean ask what is the best tv you can afford and wait for a good sale. Samsung QD-OLED has it's benefits compared to LG OLED, but they didn't support all of the standards LG did. But get an OLED or nothing, unless you have to play in direct sunlight 24/7 like a weirdo. Then maybe consider MiniLED. HDMI 2.1 and 120hz/144hz is an obvious thing these good tv's have. But just having all the things won't get you far if picture is bad aka not an OLED.
You don't need anything new from tv switching from PS5 to Pro.

I paly a bunch of video games and I own a bunch of games on disc and it doesn't bother me that they didn't include a disc drive I bought mine for the pro already last week when they announced it..and I don't care about the vertical stand either I don't stand my consoles up nor do I even use the included stands from sony..I use aftermarket stands because they are the same price and alot better quality

Can they earn us back? Well, for one, they couldn't care any less about the consumer because they know people will buy whatever they launch, whether that be a lame semi-portable thing like the PS portal or an expensive variant of the same console that is already very expensive, to begin with. For two, they know the moment GTA Vl releases, people will stop bitching about the PS5 Pro and will buy it regardless.

Knowing how sony treated the ps5 pro with no disc drive and selling it by itself with no major improvements the pro is a lost cause to even buy it i personally wouldn't call the ps6 backwards compatible it will only support ps4 and ps5 games thats it not ps1 ps2 or ps3 and cloud streaming don't count
Just got my PS5 a little over a year ago. No intention of getting a Pro. Also, not looking to buy another console for quite a while
I did the PC move a year ago from a PS4 to a 4090 / 13900K system (No issues with the GPU or CPU ) . Honestly I love running games on it but Im still interested in a PS5 just so I can get my hands on exclusives faster. I have a PS5 in the house but it's my GFs and I prefer having my own in my own space lol. Waiting to see if there's any sales on the slim once the pro comes out.
