Or at least come close.
Not rly. Once you are ahead a few levels nobody can gank you and the early routes are well separated. A group of people tried when he was like 55, but because of layers he just joined a different party, and all the enemies was gone.
Not to shit on his record in WoW Classic, but the record does not compare to the hunter's. Just the layering mechanic alone makes it unlike how Vanilla truly was, furthermore, no one had a clue how to play back then, now you've had time to plan WAY in advance and probably got help from friends along the way. Her record will never be broken, because, as far as retail WoW goes, it's not coming back in its 100% original form. Huge accomplishment, nonetheless. Mages, ho!
Your title is wrong. He didn't not break the record. Because he used layering. Layering was not in Vanilla WoW. He set the record for Classic. Sure. But he didn't break the old record. The old record will never be broken.
Joker did share his accound with his brother (On a same computer so it's not illegal) so no new record there. That character is fastest to lvl 60 yes but with layering it wont fit in the same catecory with original joanna's speedrun!
Unfortunately the spawn rates were increased and the layering changed the speed at which one could level, thus making this an exclusive Classic record and not comparable to vanilla.

Yes absolutely, this layering makes a huge difference. You could compare it to a racing car, in vanilla you had only one set of tires whereas in classic you have an unlimited amount of tires.
@@jopewot7859 This analogy is so fucking dumb. Do you think the speed record of a car is invalidated because the previous record used a older version of an engine? Where some would say "it's impossible to stay awake that long" I have several stories of having less than 5 hours of sleep for 5 days straight. And I don't mean 5 hours each night. I mean total. It's definitely possible. Would I ever do something like this? Probably not. I can respect the effort though because I was really early in getting Halo 5 Legendary Solo. Game was released on Tues, I had the achievement Friday morning. Could've had it Thurs night if I weren't brain dead from beating my head against a wall. That last bit of sleep really helped get me back into the fight. Props to him for pulling it off.
dont forget that in classic WoW, not only was mounts for high levels, they where bloody expensive for the level as well. and it's not physically impossible to stay awake for 3 days, there was a experiment on the matter lasting for 11 days, within 3 days all you will experience is severe degradation in coordination and gradual loss of your senses, it will also highly effect your mood making you swing drastically in between emotions. here is a article about the study: www.sciencealert.com/health-risks-death-from-sleep-deprivation
Naldoron yet he was still the first one, everyone else had access to the same information. it‘s like in professional cycling. The winner is always on steroids, but so is the rest of the field. hence he‘s still the best of them ;)
I was awake for 5 days straight to level up a warlock in WotLK for Raid. All i remember after the fifth day was that i slept through nearly 2 days before awakening thirsty and hungry as hell. I still slept through a whole day after a shower, some food, some water and 'other business'. I never did it again. I started kind of haluzinating after the fourth day. I raided with the Warlock and had fun though. I dont suggest doing something like that. I heard from people dying and it could have happened to me too i guess. I probably was just lucky. Stay crunchy.
He should try it on a 56k or dsl like it was in 2006. And see if he can truly beat the time and get a pc that runs the min required for classic not the op system we all have know days.
Now to all you speed leveling junkies out there!!! Imagine what you could do with "rested exp" and an army of warlocks taking care of all your travel needs. And someone feeding you mana pots. Jokerd was the first and gratz to him. But the competition for lowest /played hasnt even started yet.
And don't even mention lvl 60 kill squad following you 100 % of the time killing every single mob that you tag, i'm pretty sure someone could do it below 24 hours played by using every trick in the book (although some people might call that cheating but who cares)
andrejoss475 Nah its not cheating. The community aspect is an essential part of Classic WoW. Aslong as youre staying within the restrictions of the EULA anything goes.
Ever heard of instance solo sharing? Basicly a high lvl body pulls all the mobs in an instance, a low level tags them and leaves the group. The high lvl kills them, while the low level gets all the xp. This with rested xp and summons to the entrances would get the time really really quick
Staying awake that long is possible. I did it once. bad insomnia due to stress I was awake for just over 3 days before I went out. and Congrats to Jokerd. just started my WoW Classic. looking forward to it.
This video was a total fillout with pointless information, 1.he used blizzard, 2.used layering. Why didn't you go Depp into what zones? What mobs? Seriously you don't have to explain what wow Is because 99% of ppl here are interested in depth HOW HE DID IT..... we already play wow
He didn't even use layering until he was level 50 and he DID quest, so long as the quests were in the same area that he was aoe farming in and not too long of quests.
well at some point you have to decide, are you going for the worlds first level 60 or beat the 13 year old record the way it was made. Considering that way more people care about the world first, this was a smart decision.
Yeah mage AoE farming is nothing new. It's just in old WoW it's inefficient to do only that because mob respawn times, here he had layering to take advantage of.
I mean people knowing about him trying to break the record and continuously trying to fault his efforts wouldn't be normal either, It's something that should definitely be considered just like layering.
Because of layering, his record sadly doesnt mean much. Layering is a crazy advantage over what was possible back then. Having to wait for respawns would've made things much different.
@@syroxx3262 ehhhhhhhhh he exploited with the layering thing pretty hard. layering affects the gameplay so much i wouldnt even really say its the same as 2004-2007
@Veigar The Black Wizard It doesn't matter, any slight difference in mechanics can invalidate a run, sure his run is completely legit for CLASSIC, but this can't directly compete agaisnt a vanilla run because this run uses mechanics that were unavailable in the other version. Also what you're saying is really dumb, do you think it matters if he only did it for a few hours or seconds? If he did it then it's already not qualified as a vanilla run.
There's a few things that make it not possible to compare this to the original launch of vanilla WoW. The layering is the obvious one, as that didn't exist back then and he used it to bypass mob respawn timers, secondly all the ingame files and class balancing is based on... i believe... the 1.12 patch of vanilla, not the launch one. All said though jokerd did an amazing job and had such a good natured reaction when he went to delete the character and fans held him hostage with ingame fanmail preventing deletion
Joker not only got first 60 on classic but with that first to 60 by using layers. For actual speedrunning after phase 1 shit will be different if people are gonna try for playtime records
People accusing him of account-sharing because of him "not physically being able to stay awake for that long" are absolute weaklings... I was awake, drunk, playing and partying for 72h during a dreamhack plenty of years ago, so if some random meathead like me can do that without dying.. Come on millennials, shape up.
Record shouldn't be classed as broken layering wasnt present in vanilla so it does not hold up to Joanna's record jokerd has the fastest classic time but Joanna holds the legend spot always
For the record, the World First 60 original and Classic WF 60 are 2 different Records, I state this on the fact that from the old record to the new one there is a HUGE difference between Game knowledge known after the fact for Classic world first and the original. The Original World First Title still Holds due to it was a fresh slate with 0% prior knowledge and data mined information like Classic. In the end i respect both records for what they are, and who earned them.
"have you ever tried to stay awake for 24 hrs playing a game?" Yeah, when iRO came out my mates and I used to go to Brisbane for a 24hr lock in gaming session every week. And when I was 18 I stayed awake for 2 days straight playing FF8. Not saying I was fully conscious the whole time...but I was awake.
It does but for the separate category WoW Classic. Joana will always be the fastest in Vanilla, but Vanilla and Classic are different. So much like an original hardware arcade speed run has a separate category from an emulated one, it counts but it’s a different category.
"staying awake for 24h is extremelly hard"..... Im watching this after a 24h service at work, while having snacks, and after having spent 4 hours gaming in the afternoon, and im not even sleepy...
@@SianaGearz Alkaizer was streaming with a cam and he did about 40 hours straight then slept 4 hours then 20 more hours, it's not like everyone else that was pushing that hard was sleeping more than him even.
@@musicaddicted777 Yeah when i was young and we'd do drawn out competitions (closest similar thing you might have heard about would be game jams, where you have to create something quickly with a team within a couple days), going almost 4 days with maybe 10 hours of sleep between them was extremely taxing but doable. If it wasn't hard, it wouldn't be a competition.
The 2019 speed run to 60 doesnt count becasue the game had layering. You could kill mobs, then be transfered to a different layer where those mobs would be back alive again, then kill them again and so on and so on. For example. I was doing a quest to collect 6 crocolisk skins in wetlands. I would kill the 10 or so that were there and get maybe 2 skins, then i would have to wait 5min or so for them to re spawn. Kill, get 2 more skins, then wait 5min more to get the last 2 skins. All up the quests might have taken me 20 - 25min. BUT i found out about layering. So i kill the mobs, then ask to be invited to a party from on of my guild mates. He invites me and i get transferred to a different layer. All the crocolisks instantly appear and i can kill, transfer layer again and kill again. This cuts down the time to complete the quest from 20 - 25 min to about 10 min flat. Imagine that process across hundreds of quests and mobs. You would save hours of time.
Oh that's so sad I thought it was actually a legit record but he's exploiting the load balancing feature to respawn mob packs that's very disappointing.
The second biggest problem with this run is it was done at launch. By leveling faster than the curve he was the only one with access to high level areas thus had no competition. You can't do that on a server now. The biggest is involving a second player in the run to assist. By doing so, the run would not count for a max level speedrun.
No, he did not break the record. He did however set a new record for fastest level 1-60 for classic wow. The layering mechanic simply being in the game is as same as playing a game with cheat codes vs vanilla
Gotta agree here. The very fact that layering exists means the record can´t be compared to the one 13 years ago. I mean he still got World First, just that it did not break any records. You could say he set the record to break, for Classic WoW.
I agree that he invalidated his time by hopping layers. For it to have been a fair competition against Joana's record, he would have had to limit himself to the mechanics Joana had available at that time. It really seems like he could have beaten the record just fine without hopping, but that's a separate matter, of course.
@@Chair991 The thing is the instant respawning of every mob around you especially if its large packs and he is basicly doing the Tag and kite to death as a mage it saves him alot and i mean ALOT of time by just getting invited into a group by a friend he then gets to kill all the mobs again leaves group gets into old phase where again all mobs are that way he doesnt have to wait for spawn wich gives him time someone in "real" vanilla not had. ^^
@O K If you understood the difference between Vanilla and Classic, you wouldnt be so clueless ;) if you are able to press a button to get mobs to instantly respawn how could you not beat the record for a game that you cant? Are you that foolish to not understand such a simple concept? LOL
Vanilla is a state of time, the record can never be broken. This is the Classic record that utilized layer hopping when things didn't go his way. Yeah, sure, it was impressive nonetheless, but the fact remains he did layer hop, and I wonder if he would still be the first to 60 if layering wasn't a thing. Try doing what he did now, you will never find a free spot to farm.
im confused... back in the day the fastest way to level for a mage at one point was fighting elites that had no range in an instance that no one could interfere with... same blizzard mechanic essentially by the time you killed the elites in an area they would respawn in the dungeon, and you would just rinse repeat... thought it was around lvl 40 to like 55 getting like 1 level an hour
"i dont know if youve ever tried to stay awake for 24 hours" bro i did it the other week without even trying and im on enough quetiapine to make a grown human sleep for 17 hours straight. the hard part is actually getting stuff done in that time
This isn't breaking an old record, cause this is not the exact same game. There are different bugs, exploit, mechanics, fixes, patches, content, and so on. It isn't the same WoW 13 years ago. He set a NEW record, but didn't break the old. As soon as the new expansion came out, the old record from 13 years ago was set in stone and could never be challenged again. --- Abusing the Layering System? Yes, that does invalidate his run, cause he's using an exploit that people are not meant to use, which is a byproduct that Blizzard can't get around. The Layering System is meant to fix Server Stress and Lag, not to be used to exploit Mob Spawns. He's breaking the game in a way it's not meant to be played. It's not like In Metroid where the Devs didn't place a barrior or checked their physics so people were sequence breaking. The physics and placements were EXACTLY how the Devs set them. This, this would be like jumping on the right pixel, which broke the code of the game and placed you right at the end boss, Dark Souls 1 glitching style, which is NOT how the game was intended to be played, and thus not Valid. A Speed Run is to get from the beginning of the game to the end. But when cheaters and hackers and glitches came it, it changed. It's getting from the beginning of the game to the end, just like a normal player would. Without Glitches, without breaking the game or code, without cheating. Exploiting a system by the Dev normally would be allowed, but with Layering, it was never intended to be used to farm Mobs, it was meant to have you be on the same layer as your friend to play together and quest together. So you would party right next to each other or meet up, then quest together, now on 1 layer and never leaving. You aren't meant to kill mobs, join and party to switch layers, leave and kill the mods, then party again to join another new layer and exploit. It's a byproduct, but one that can't fundamentally be protected or changed, as the only way to remove the 'exploit' is to remove Layering all together. They are exploiting and breaking the game's balance and system to farther their own experience. I would even go so far as to say that Blizzard should ban his account over this exploit.
It took me 4-5 days to hit 60 in vanilla 20hours a day with a rogue, since questing was close to non-existant back then the only way was to grind grind grind. I got whispers from people thinking I was a chinese farmer. Good times. As someone stated previously, the record stands. This might be vanilla, but the factors around there is no vanilla about.
@@codytownsend3259 Impressive, yes. First on Classic, yes. But as for speedrunning it's a different category. It's common for speed run games to have multiple categories for how the game was beat, speed running in WoW has been the same with different patches and expansions. This won't, and shouldn't be any different. It's still a bad ass accomplishment.
Not taking away from JokerD, absolute animal. But, he used layering which is Classic exclusive. I wouldn’t say he broke the original record, but SET the “Classic” record.

Or at least come close.
The fact that he did that on a pvp realm while streaming makes this achievement even more badass.

Yep, I have to agree with you on that Azgoon69, even with those that was trying to stop him from doing it.
If it wasn't on a pvp realm it wouldn't count it would need double ** then
Unfortunately the spawn rates were increased and the layering changed the speed at which one could level, thus making this an exclusive Classic record and not comparable to vanilla.

If it wasn't hard, it wouldn't be a competition.
Do people know meth and speed exist? Tweakers be staying up for days all the time.
Oh that's so sad I thought it was actually a legit record but he's exploiting the load balancing feature to respawn mob packs that's very disappointing.
yeah he did that for the last 3 levels only and it is not exploiting when Blizzard had put the mechanic in to the game on purpose..

I agree that he invalidated his time by hopping layers. essentially by the time you killed the elites in an area they would respawn in the dungeon, and you would just rinse repeat... thought it was around lvl 40 to like 55 getting like 1 level an hour
Didnt he abuse the layering like tons of other lvl 60s? 🤔
Yes, he did. Meaning he did not beat the record, because his strategy was significantly aided by cheating respawns.

---
Abusing the Layering System?
So he dident beat joana. Layering did. Still first 60 in classic. Major gratz
Ya but he was so much shorter I’d argue he would of still beat it without layering, since layering has a cooldown
He used layering from 58-60 only cuz he was getting sniped by horde players, so if people wanna label that as abusing layering then whatever
Not taking away from JokerD, absolute animal. But, he used layering which is Classic exclusive. I wouldn’t say he broke the original record, but SET the “Classic” record.
Abuse of layering is basically cheating. I don't personally consider that it should be valid.
Joker NEVER had his cam on during leveling and wasnt always talking. where as before and after level 60 he was doing a lot of both. and he doesnt look like a meth addict so he 1000000% wasnt the only one leveling that toon.
