    The use of decanters can be traced up to about 2,500 years ago. Back then, wines were served in earthen vessels since the glass vessels were yet to be made. In the 17th century, it would have been rude to serve the wine from the bottle.
    Decanters became more popular during this period. By the 18th century, decanting had become a tradition in England. This tradition then spread throughout Europe.

    What I love is that people in the comment section are asking for help but they've literally already answered in the video how to look them up either online or in an antique glassware catalog

    If there is someone out there, I'm computer illiterate please help. I have two Michter's Egyptian decanters. I would like to know their values. My father got them for my mother. One is Neffertiti and is 12" H x 7"W x 10" D. King Tut is 7.5"H x 6"W x 6"D. They are both gold plated, but I don't know if it's real . They're both in excellent condition. Both have the seals. They both have been opened. Can someone help me. I'm NOT looking to sell, just looking for insurance.

    If a decanter has a seam, does that mean it's lead free?

    • @AdvancedMixology
      @AdvancedMixology  2 года назад

      Not necessarily Sharon. Seamless decanters can also be lead-free

      @@AdvancedMixology no I was asking about decanters *with* seams.

    • @lovedecanters7891
      @lovedecanters7891 2 года назад

      Usually if your decanter has a seam it is of lower quality and is less likely to have a less high lead content. Decanters with seams have been made for about 170 years, so If it has a seam you can only say it’s newer than 170 years old. I would panic about lead as the quantity that leaches into your drink can barely be measured, as glass is pretty inert. You should be more worried about the residue left over from when we put lead into petrol and literally pumped it into the air.
