As a 15 year veteran of World of Warcraft, I have fallen completely in love with the content and gameplay of FFXIV. Join me on this journey into Final Fantasy XIV, as I seek a new home in Eorzea. It's a long road to Endwalker, but it starts here.
Drop in for some laid back MMO content in this live stream, perfect for a second monitor. I'll be progressing through the MSQ as well as stopping to smell the flowers... and maybe cat girls...

I always play the healer. Be it the medic in shooters or the cleric/druid/white mage in RPGs. That's where I'm most comfortable. Also the instant queuing is a nice bonus :D
I've started tanking in FF14 a couple of weeks ago and it still feels intimidating. Like, what if I miss an Add and one of the DPS gets killed because I didn't taunt that Add in time? I would feel horrible. But I got more confident and even did a couple of trials and alliance raids as tank.
It is awesome that gaming is now more accessible than ever. When I was gaming as a kid/teen, especially WoW, I was called names and got bullied all the time. Now almost everyone plays games and it's just a normal thing.

As someone who mains tank, I can tell you that you really don't have to worry about some of that. On the left side of your screen there will be a list of mobs. Next to their name is a spot of color. If it's red, that means you are targeted with their hate. If it's green, that means someone else has hate. (If it turns yellow that means you're losing hate, and should smack that mob again.) All you need to do is click on the green mob, hit it once with pretty much any skill, and it'll be attacking you. (Just make sure you always have tank stance on.) If you're using tab targeting, you can tab and when you land on the green mob it'll be highlighted on the list. This mob list is actually a good thing to be aware of on any job. If you're DPS and the mob you're attacking is starting to flash yellow, it means the mob you're attacking has been neglected by the tank, and you're starting to pull hate. At that point you should switch targets.
When you're first starting as a tank, the easiest way to make sure you're always the main threat (at least when you're beginning) is to pull with your ranged attack. Don't use Provoke. That's an specific use thing that has a recast timer. Use Tomahawk for Marauder or Shield Lob for Gladiator (make sure you do the level 15 class quests for these skills). This will draw every single mob towards you. Then just pause for a beat. You don't have to run in right away. The mobs will come running to you. Often they'll even line up in a cone shape for you, which is perfect for Marauder. Then hit your AOE attack. Everything should be red. If there's any green on the mob list, target the green one and hit the AOE again, just to make sure you hit it. No one, not a healer or DPS, is going to die because you missed a mob on a pull and they got hit once or twice. You'll be fine.
