    *If your PC Skyrim was broken by the auto-update* there is a reversion patch on the Nexus. It's called: Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Downgrade Patcher.

    Two thumbs way way up for this legend. I'm blown away that this is rarely talked about as a valid method to remove Steam forced updates for these games. I returned to mod SSE a couple months ago and, luckily, didn't have to deal with the AE fallout since most everything I want has been updated for 1.6.xx. I still already employed this method to prevent the future nonsense from Bethesda.. we know it's coming. Thanks Zerum!

    I tried this but the only drive I currently have is Windows 10 Home (C:), which is the drive I am already on. I recently tried moving it out of the steam directory and into my own games folder the same as you but unfortunately my mod loader (MM2) would not read this so I just copied and pasted it into both. The only issue I’m having right now is when I try to load my previous save in Skyrim, it gives me an error saying that my Sky UI is missing. So I reinstalled Sky UI and that didn’t work I feel like I’m out of options, please help if you have anything to offer.
    Thank you!

    Thank you for the tip! Unfortunately LOOT doesn't seem to work anymore now, it can't find Skyrim SE. Anything I can do? All the paths are correct.

    • @ZerumTV
      @ZerumTV  2 года назад +3

      Hey! I knew I would forget something in the vid. Run the Skyrim Launcher from Mod Organizer 2. Once you get to the main menu you can close the game and LOOT should work again!
      I’ll add a note about it in the description. Thank you!

    • @amalahrose4589
      @amalahrose4589 2 года назад

      That's not working unfortunately. It takes me to the little menu that says Play, Options, Support and Exit. I press play, it asks if I want to allow it to make changes to my computer, and then when I say yes nothing happens. :(

    • @ZerumTV
      @ZerumTV  2 года назад +1

      @@amalahrose4589 That’s strange, I will run some tests to see if I can find a solution for you.
      For now:
      Make sure that you are logged in to Steam. Run Mod Organizer 2 as an Administrator
      Try running Skyrim Launcher again, if it crashes try launching it a few more times, sometimes it takes a few tries.
      Hopefully it’s just being weird and decides to start working for you, but I’ll let you know if I find anything else.

    • @ZerumTV
      @ZerumTV  2 года назад

      @@amalahrose4589 Ok, I figured it out. After following the steps in the video:
      Head to Steam and uninstall Skyrim SE.
      Run the new Launcher (either from MO2 or just right in the folder, doesn’t matter).
      If it asks to make changes press ok.
      Press Play, this will take a few attempts but eventually it will open Steam and prompt you to download Skyrim. Just cancel the download and return to MO2. LOOT should work now.
      I might reupload the vid with these instructions but for now I’ll add it to the description.
      I apologize for my oversight. My mod list hasn’t been changed in a while so I haven’t used LOOT recently.

      @@ZerumTV I tried this and still can't get LOOT to work. It doesn't load/recognize any of my mod plugins. Just the vanilla stuff.

  • @Reiynisa

    Not sure if anyone would still reply but I followed this tutorial to move my skyrim folder. My MO2 is working fine but loot seems to be conflicted. If I direct it to skyrim folder it will only detect my DLCS but not my mods since MO2 keeps the mod in a different file. Loot demands that I start my game through steam or it will give me an error

  • @MedjayofFaiyum
    @MedjayofFaiyum 2 года назад

    I moved my Skyrim folder to an different drive, and I clicked on SE (I've not modded skyrim yet) and it launched the steam version. Anything wrong I'm doing here? No SKSE installed or anything yet. Modding is difficult and I'd need an updated guide now on how to mod again.

    • @ZerumTV
      @ZerumTV  2 года назад

      Ah, this guide assumes you will be launching your game from Mod Organizer 2 instead of from Steam or the new folder. If you launch the game by just clicking the executable in the folder it will launch Steam. Since you aren't actively modding you may prefer to just play the Anniversary Edition update, and just keep a copy of the old SE version incase you decide to mod down the line.
      That being said here are some fixes to let you launch Skyrim outside of Steam:
      Option 1: Download / install SKSE, then launch the game through skse_loader.exe
      Option 2: Download Mod Organizer 2 and launch the game from there.
      Option 3: Is to make a new file in the new Skyrim folder named "steam_appid.txt" with YOUR Skyrim app-ID inside it
      I may make a video on option 3 since it is a bit complicated, but there are many excellent videos on options 1 & 2

    • @MedjayofFaiyum
      @MedjayofFaiyum 2 года назад

      @@ZerumTV Ah okay. From Mod organiser 2 at this point. I'm playing vanilla for now but I am seeing why Skyrim needs mods for now.
      I still have the copy of the old SE version.
      A question. If I launch THROUGH Mod organizer 2 - this bypasses SE right?
      And many of the tutorials for modding Skyrim in 2021 are still valid correct?

    • @ZerumTV
      @ZerumTV  2 года назад +1

      @@MedjayofFaiyum Launching through MO2 fixes the issue where it keeps trying to open Steam, but it still uses the ".exe" files from your Skyrim folder. Most of the 2021 modding tutorials should still be great to start with! Since we are using the pre-Anniversary Edition game files everything should be the same.
      I may make an absolute beginners guide for modding in the near future, but I'm sort of waiting to see how the mod community reacts after AE has been out for a little bit.
      Some brief tips for starting modding:
      Start simple, don't try to build a huge load order your first time (the rabbit-hole will suck you in lol)
      Always read the mod descriptions and check requirements / incompatibilities
      Good luck, and have fun.

    • @MedjayofFaiyum
      @MedjayofFaiyum 2 года назад

      @@ZerumTV Thanks. I really only want to get some of the quest mods so that's simple enough for the time being.
      Yes exactly you figured out that main point - I.e you will launch from MO2 but it still retains that exe which is tied to steam. Is there a workaround on that? But I'll check the 2021 guides.
      I believe a absolute beginners guide will be needed, not just me alone, many others that want to get started modding in Skyrim will need this because of the AE update. Now say there hadn't been an this AE update which I don't know why they didn't put it as a standalone game, then the tutorials still are relevant either way. But because of this, meh what can you do.
      If I had a list of mods:
      Start Another Life Mod
      Bruma
      Falksaar
      Quest Mods
      Wearable Lanterns
      Interesting NPCs
      Interesting Dialogue Overhaul
      And maybe some city mods
      But that's about it. For graphics I have reshade and that should be enough.

      This video is for people using Mod Organizer 2, which keeps all of your mods in a separate folder, outside of Skyrim. If you've been manually installing mods you can still use these steps, but launching the game will require some workarounds.
