Exactly the kind of content that actually helps! Thanks for posting. This is the same configuration that I am planning to get. Would have been great if you could have shown the amount of swap used (if at all), and also an observation of the thermals.
I have ordered the 16 GB model with one terabyte storage. after a lot of research, I figured it was better to go slightly higher than too low. I am beginning editor with using primarily an iPhone 15 camera.
Thank you for the video. It really help me to decide which model to buy based on my video editing need. I'm planning to edit 8K 360 videos from insta360 X4 and my current laptop it may not handle smoothly, so I was planning to switch from Win to Mac. My budget to get a new laptop was up to $1800, so I may choose M3 Macbook Air with 16G is perfect for my budget and performance that I'm looking for. Mahalo
I got the exact same use case, the pro m3 I would like is quite expensive, so the alternatives is the m3 air 16gb or a windows laptop like a lenovo yoga with 16gb ram and a dedicated gpu like a rtx 4050 or 3050, but that's really cutting it down. Did you get the laptop? Are you able to work with insta video's with it fine?
I appreciate that this is one of the few reviews that aren't testing the base model. I am more interested in the 16GB and 24GB models. But, it would be helpful to know how the editing performance changes the longer you edit due to thermal throttling. Sometimes I'm editing for hours, so I'm thinking I need a Macbook Pro with a fan, but still want to know definitively if the Air can go for hours without slowdown.
I’m testing the 16gb and 24gb versions now. Review to come soon. Testing for hours I experienced no thermal throttling with 8k Sony footage in FCP. The MacBook Pro is not necessary. And I would highly recommend checking out the 15” model.
Im considering a MacBook to edit my 8K 25p clips in. ALL my clips are getting warp stabilizer and it currently takes me 30 minutes of stabilizing on a 45-50 second clip. Is there a possibility you can stabilize a clip and check the processing time?
5:06 The M3 Airs went back to using 2 128GB NAND chips for the 256GB SDD option, just like the M1 Airs.

does the Macbook get too hot when working with the 8k video?

How good is it w 4k video editing, and how much slow down after a few minutes, due to heat.
Very impressive machine!!

Hey Mark, what Sony camera model did you use for the 8K video? It looks sharp especially when cropping.
Sony A7R5
Impressive. How about 8K 60fps playback?
My question as well!
what are your thoughts on this vs the MacBook Pro M3Pro you just tested for FCP? Thanks! :)
I don’t see that he’s answered anyone’s comment and he only has like 7 of them on this video.
