Glad you did a review with the base model, something that an everyday user would have. A bunch of other reviews bump up the ram and storage so I never got an accurate review on what’s supposed to be the budget option.
I went to Best Buy and basically impulse purchased this exact machine, because they had it for $850. It's my first Mac. So far it's great as both a content consumption device, and also fantastic for work. I use Quickbooks in a browser for my small business, and log in to pay my sales and use tax, email customers, etc. Battery life is ASTONISHING, keyboard great, and the trackpad...sublime. I might end up a Mac fanboy just because of the trackpad. Good video. Thanks for the content.
I was sold on getting an new M3 pro Macbook pro but now after seeing this video i'm leaning towards the M2 Macbook Air. Many thanks for the clarity, My brain was scrambled with deciding between getting a maxed out M2 or a base model M3. i now know what i need to get. M2 Air fills the bill with a little more ram and a bigger hard drive. Ive decided.
Thanks for this, I don’t usually subscribe to these sorts of videos I have to be honest but you nailed exactly what I needed where most others have missed the point. I have a Mac Studio and was looking for a computer to roam around the house with some video edits and photos too, and I was dubious regards 8gb, but there really is no need it seems (m2 Mac air 15” on a Black Friday deal) Thanks again, great presentation my friend, hopefully catch you in some more videos.
Thank you for this, im confident now on getting an M3 Macbook Air 16/512 Gb. I now know this will get me covered for my photography needs in the nexr 3-5 yrs
I am concidering getting the 15” M2 Air (512gb) mainly going to use it for DJ’ing & editing 4K GoPro videos. Do you think the it’s sufficient enough to do that?? I could get the M3 14” MacBook but I prefer the bigger screen & the M3 is a couple hundred $$ more.
I want to use it for making a holiday video so mixing photos GoPro footage and iphone footage for about 4 hour video... Transitions between photos and video and some text here and there... Would the air M2 be enough? Also regarding that drop frame you saw with the 3d text does it carry to the export or once it's exported plays just fine? I had some issues with LumaFusion where the fram drop translated to the export (on ipad) so I want to upgrade to M2 air for this and use the FCP thanks and loved the video
I use my M2 air base for very similar stuff, the dropped frames you see in playback do not carry onto the rendered video. I had a HP ProBook before this and it used to take about 10 mins to render a 40s 4k video in 1080p! The M2 air for me is like lightning compared, I can’t even imagine what a MBP would be like! And just for reference, I hardly EVER see dropped frames on mine especially on better quality mode. I use Davinchi Resolve and it works almost perfectly. I don’t really do insanely complicated edits but some can have a lot of layers, text, transitions etc and it just chews it up easily.
@@charlieandrew7760 oh awesome! I don't really mind the frame drop ok the edit... As long as it doesn't carry to the export... Rather have a more portable device tbh... Thanks for the feedback definitely helps to make a decision!
This is awesome. So much hate for the SSD on M2 base but in actual performance seems fine. Photo editing is my heaviest use case so it should do great.
wow which editing video are you using and that mouse your using? can you pls comment the link where to get those? I just got my new m2 MacBook Air too...still navigating thanks
Just purchased this waiting for it to come .. the only video editing that I’ll be doing is for the insta360 studio it also has a Mobil app and I also can edit on there and reframe just when exporting on the app it only exports 1080 with the insta360 studio I can export 4K or 5.7 .. from the looks of your video it’ll be fine ?
Brilliant video, very in depth and a true test. Did you notice any thermal throttling after a while? I use my M2 Air base model for editing videos and photos all the time and I find it just crunches it.
I do a lot of long form video editing for RUclips for like vlogs and sit downs. I use my phone but it can be bit stressful sometimes editing on a small screen. I’m looking to invest in a laptop. My current MacBook Air 2018 is slow & over heats and has like pop up messages all the time. So I was wondering which do you think is better to invest in for my needs between M2 air or MacBook Pro M1 Chip. I’ll also be investing in a 4k camera
This is an awesome video. Looking to purchase the m3 air 15 inch when it comes out with 24 gb of ram, and 512 storage. Upgrading from the original 2020 m1 13 inch MacBook Air. Going to be using it for my 25 tabs of safari with RUclips playing and some video editing for my business and basic gmailing a video calls 😊
Thanks a lot for sharing. I’m looking to upgrade my 2007 MacBook Pro. I’d originally considered the M2 MacBook Air but when the new MacBook Pro’s were announced, I was looking at them also. Comparing base models, I notice there’s not a huge difference in spec between the Air & Pro & certainly not like there use to be. Looks like a MacBook Air could be the way to go 👍😁💻
If I edit a video on Adobe Premiere that is approximately 20 minutes to half an hour long, how much time will it take to render the video? If I edit on Final Cut, how much time will it take to edit? I am talking about a MacBook Air. Will the device get hot while editing and exporting the video? Will this make the device slow?
@@RoyFlorez I have been under the impression that the base model is underpowered to handle 4k in FCPx but watching your video is making me think of this unit again. I would love to see how long it takes to proxy a few Gbs. Does it get too hot while exporting?
No proxies. For playback I think even in the video I switch back and forth better high quality and better performance playback, if that’s what you mean?
You filled the video with 3/4 of export times instead of showing us some more editing like picture in picture, color grading, filters, subtitles, voice over, music etc.
Just what I needed to see. Looks like a new 16" MacBook pro with 16 gig ram and the M2 Pro chip will be all I need for FCPX 4k editing. Worst case scenario I can edit in proxy mode. Hopefully transcoding the proxy files won't take as long as it does with my old mid 2012 machine. I'm guessing it won't :)
You definitely won’t need to use proxies if you snag the 16” M2 Pro. It will easily handle 4K editing. I’m mostly using the 16” M1 Pro MBP and it chews it up just fine!
Thanks. This last weekend I made a short vid - slomo. So I shot in 4k at 120fps so I could slow it down 50% and then render out H264 at 24fps. That required proxy mode for sure - on my old machine. Will be an interesting test when my new laptop arrives. ruclips.net/video/ck0aU_EdH70/видео.htmlfeature=shared

got a 3050Ti in my dell XPS 9510 15" and it can barely handle editing a short 45 second video. Timeline scrubbing is crap. MBA m2 is way better and smoother with half the ram. crazy!!

Probably worth noting that, since you can't upgrade the RAM after the fact, it'd still be wise to get the 16GB model
Great video! Really helped me decide which MacBook Air configuration I need for content creation
