I'm in the same boat. I've had my 2021 16" M1 Pro since new and love it, used it for both my work (software engineer) and home life, but a couple of months back decided to purchase a 15" MacBook Air for my work to separate them out. I don't need crazy powerful graphics for what I do, and the M2 is a very powerful CPU and more than enough for me. I thought the screen being LCD rather than Mini LED, the smaller speakers, and 60hz screen would be a downgrade, but you really don't notice it. The screen feels just as good and I don't even notice the refresh rate difference, only when they're side-by-side, in a dark room, with a dark video playing do you notice the black-level difference. As for the speakers, yes the 16" ones are much better, but the 15" Air speakers are still better than 99% of laptops and more than good enough. Performance-wise I'm yet to notice a difference, both are instant, snappy, and compile what I need it to in a moment. For me the battery on the 15" Air is far better, a good 50% more than my 16" Pro, and the weight/lightness makes it incredible to use on your lap, I do think its a better overall device for 95%+ of people.
Been using the 2020 base model M1 Air, and I am still in love with it. All the usual productivity stuff, a bit of creative work (davinci, garage band) and also coding (c# using vs code). Couldn’t be happier I did have a 14” max with 24 gpu cores which was spectacular for the video work though, especially when using fusion. So I can definitely see why a professional videographer would want the gpu power.
nice and simple video: honest , visually good, no beating around the bush: i am on the same boat: i barely use my 16inch anymore, just because the 15 gets taken everywhere around the house and on the go, pairs wirelessly with the studio display its just great
I recently upgraded to a 14 inch MacBook Pro with the m2 max chip and I don’t feel any need to upgrade again for a long time. My MacBook Pro has been absolutely flawless so far and I love doing schoolwork, editing videos for my church, and surfing the web on it!

Chose between base models - 1700$ MBP 16 M1 Pro 16/512 and 1300$ MBA 15 M2 8/256. To be honest, it wasnt too hard to choose MBP 16 M1 Pro: better battery life, faster SSD, better screen, better mics, better speakers and 16gb RAM is so needed in 2023 no matter what you do with your machine. I had the only argument that MBA 15 is slimmer and more portable. And ofc, MBP 16 is a bit heavy, though I got used to its weight after a week. And its slim enough for me!
I have a 2020 m1 MacBook pro. I love the design of the newer laptops but in terms of power and battery life I'm all set. Even with the base model I've never had an issue with anything.
I JUST bought the 16-inch M2 Pro MacBook Pro, coming from an i7 2017 MacBook Pro. The upgrades in battery life and speed are insanely good. My only complaint is the weight, but it's definitely a solid machine that I will be using for a while!
As someone with a vision impairment, I got this because it’s nice not having to shell out $2000+ for a bigger screen. Plus I love the new function row key size. I have a Magic Keyboard with my work computer with the larger function row. It took me a while to get used to it, but now the older style keyboard function row and Touch ID feel cramped.
My Mac Pro in a 2016 and no longer updates… Thank you for this review! I am a medical student so tons of computer work but no editing or things like that! I am not tech savvy and want to see if id lose anything that I am use to on my laptop. This review was to the point and awesome! Thank you!
Longtime windows user due to work that decided to get a Mac for personal use and my new business. I have the 15" with 16gbs of storage and love this machine. I decided to go with apple due to the use of the silicon and battery life. I love that I can use this off cord with no difference in performance, unlike pcs at time. The battery life is great and the sound quality compared to pcs has been great.
Been using it for a few weeks now and I gotta say it's the best non pro MacBook Apple has made. It's the perfect blend of everything. Huge screen, brilliant keyboard, outstanding trackpad, very light. I couldn't ask for a better laptop/MacBook
My personal laptop is a 13inch M2 air and then my work laptop is a 15inch m2 air, I like the 15inch for work because of all the spreadsheets and long emails I have to write
I have an M1 Air and still feel happy about it. Since I am working in field sales, always on the move working style is a must. A “cheap”, snappy, long lasting battery life, auto connect to 4g on my iPhone, auto share the screen with my ipad is a champ to me. I only need to check mail, web browsing, reading & making report, mostly using MSOffice…M1 is a champ. Even with 8gb ram, with swap memory, It’s work like a hmmm…~13gb ram window laptop. I drop the Latitude with 16gb ram that Unilever Gave me at home :)). Just a tad less Multitasking but I got the speed that smoke the 16gb I5 dell when using Exel and I got amazing battery life, better looking screen, better speaker…. The only reget is i haven’t bought it sooner. Not to mention when I got home and docking it. OMG it’s amazing. With a 4K monitor, and wireless keyboard&mouse&speaker, you have another Imac at home.
just got mine for my phd program and I already love it, coming from a MBP 2017, and the butterfly keyboard stopped working and I didn't qualify for the replacement program, but that's fine cause I love this so much more and the screen size is awesome.
I'm doing something similar: 16" M1 Pro MBP (with shell that weighs 1 lb.!) to maxed out 13" MacBook Air (and no shell), for all that portability goodness while traveling.
have the 13" macbook air m2. loaded up with 1TB drive 16GB ram, even opted for 10-core chip. completely prefer this over my work macbook m1 max. yes that is great, but with small compromise in power, i get incredible portability and i'm in love with the reduction in weight, with an incredible design. pretty much the lowest-end laptops like the macbook air m1 are merely great, then they scale to really great then insanely great. what a time to be an apple laptop enthusiast.
Thanks for the review! I've had my 15'' MacBook Pro since 2011 and it's FINALLY slowing down. Both bummed about it but stoked for an upgrade! The 15 Air sounds like a good fit for me! :)
The 15” air is a serious contender for the replacement of my aging i9 2019 15” MBP. It’s faster in the majority of work flows, total silent, and has impressive battery life. However, I still feel as tho ProMotion is the killer feature on the pro.
Honestly I don’t think the promotion is worth it. Yes it is better and noticeable, but I traded in a Pro 14 inch m2 myself for a base model m2 15 and it’s so much better in every other way that it’s totally worth it. Imo the 15 inch air M2 is the best laptop Apple has ever made and yes thats a big claim.
I just bought one of these 2 weeks ago (my first Mac) and I love it. Ima simple user, mostly knocks and sites so I won’t push it very far, it it feels really good, camera really sharp for video calls, battery lasts a really long time. I’m a fan. Midnight is a fingerprint magnet though.
Owner of a late 2020 m1 MacBook air, and honestly it's amazing. battery life still lasts me two days with no charge, I'm going to look at deals during black friday but this can definitely last me at least until the M3 MacBooks next year.
This was great, I just bought mine a few days ago so I don't have much of a review yet but based on my research even as a seasoned pro (graphic and web designer) this was just right for me as I just wanted a portable option to compliment my iMac. My previous portable option was a Macbook Pro thought. When I'm ready to splurge I would consider the 14" Pro because I find the 16 way to thick and heavy lol Thanks for such a great and balanced review.
Excellent video. I have the M1 MacBook Air right now and am considering upgrading to the M2 but of course I don't really NEED to...I mainly want the larger screen and sexy new design!
Was a toss up between the M2 pro 13 in with the older chassis and the M2 air 15 inch. Ended up getting the Air yesterday and I’m impressed with it so far. I think the only real complaint for me so far is the thermals. I’m hoping getting a cooling pad will help.
I gotta have my Touch Bar so the choice was easy for me. I'm an English teacher and a fiction writer so the Touch Bar has been essential for me to work quickly.
I just got a used M2 15 inch macbook air. The other night I used it from 8pm to about 3am and was at 67% battery life when I put it away. I could have gone a full 12 hours. Where I work I have a lot of down time so we are able to bring personal laptops to work. A lot of that down time is spent watching youtube videos of something from my Emby server. If apple silicon is nothing else, its very power efficient.
It's great how the transition from Intel to Apple silicon went smoother than I expected. I don't hear complaints about apps crashing with Apple M cpus.
My only problem with it is that it is far too skinny for its size, idk if it's just my association with heft for bigger laptops. though i know it's solid, but in my hands (i work geeksquad so i had to setup and handle a few of these) it feels really flimsy like it's most of it is hollow. As far as updating recently went from the 13' m2 air to the m1 pro 16' the 8gb of ram is the biggest hold back along with the base model of the m2 chip still being beat out but the m1 pro.
My 16 inch M1 MacBook Pro 2021, has been doing good by me. I frequently edit a lot of videos as well as make music while simultaneously having many browsers and tabs open. I feel no need to upgrade yet
I don’t want to say that I love this laptop.. But it’s true I love this laptop. It’s everything I wanted in the MacBook Air. I remember back in my late 20’s I got the white 13 inch MacBook, it was great. I loved the 13 inch screen. With the exception of my company-issued laptops all of my personal laptops (Windows and Mac) ever since have been 13 inches. Now that I’m in my mid 40’s I hate the 13 inch screens. I share a M1 Air with my teenage and I just don’t like using it because it’s just to small. I held off on buying 13 inch M2 because of the rumors that a 15 inch was coming. I’m really glad I did, I love this laptop. The size of the screen makes all the difference. Having the extra real estate transforms the whole experience. I know this screen is not as good as the MacBook Pro but it’s awesome that I didn’t have to pay for a MacBook pro to get a bigger screen. I picked up the base model and it’s perfectly fine. It’s cool and silent and packs a punch. The battery life is crazy, I don’t know how long it last but it’s definitely several days. I would have liked to get more RAM but I’m one of those folks that is really offended by what Apple changes for RAM. If this was my only machine I would have sprung for the extra RAM. It’s not my main machine so it really doesn’t bother me. If I need to do any real heavy lifting then I use my M1 Studio. My only gripe is I wish they would have put a USB-C port on the right side of the laptop. It would have been nice to be able to charge from either side of the laptop. All in all this is a fantastic laptop and I’d recommend it to almost anyone
I tried the Air 15” for a week or so and returned it. Ive got a iPad Pro M2 11” with magic keyboard, and it works great for me. Although i do have an itch for a MBP 14” For the display and better speakers.and battery life. Although, i just dont knw if i can do without touch screen. They need to have them, just my opinion.
Very scary question at the end. It needed to be asked. I too got the 16 inch M1 Pro Max when it was announced, and I’m shocked by what Apple has done. They leapt so far ahead in one go, that I don’t see myself upgrading. At all. This machine is a beast and has been flawless from day one. I’m embarrassed to own one 😮. I’m a designer and I can’t make it struggle. It’s game over gents. Anyone who got any of the Apple Silicone laptops or desktops, you’re not upgrading anytime soon. It will be years from now 🫣. God I’m finally content Laptop wise.
that's really what i love about apple computers. i lived on a macbook pro 13" 2012 for years, and it was perfectly fine, and then last year finally updated to the macbook air m2 13". what an incredible difference it makes, it's like out of science-fiction. this will easily last me another decade if i want to.
I've been using a 16-inch M1 Pro MacBook Pro since January 2022 and I've had no desire to upgrade at all. In fact, I see this laptop lasting past the four years that my old early 2011 17-inch MacBook Pro did.
I bought the 2021 16”MBP because there wasn’t a 15” Air option at the time… I’m 67 and my eyes aren’t as good as they used to be and I needed the bigger screen. If I could sell my base model for $2K I would sell it and get the 15” Air with 16GB Ram and 512GB SSD… I carry 2 laptops for work, but I would gladly loose the 2lbs…
Battery King, Easily work 2 days or 16 hours on single charge, I charged the laptop to 100% at 10.00PM, then closed the lid without turning it off, then on next day morning at 11.00AM I started working on website development with 50% brightness [ no music etc. running in background ], then stopped for 2 hours from 4.00PM to 6.00PM again closed the lid didn't turn off, then again worked from 6.00PM to 9.00PM, and closed the lid with 55% battery left, then on next day again started work again at 11.00AM with same schedule and at 7.00PM battery was at 10% plugged the charger by the time I am done working battery was again at 100%
I'm packing an M1 Macbook Air - base model. Nope, I have no 'need' to upgrade, but I've always been a bit of a geek, so I'm interested in the M3 chips. Will upgrade if M3 offers ray tracing and can handle games.
I just bought the 15 inch m2 refurbed from Apple for $1019 I felt it was the perfect price for the display size because I didn’t want to sacrifice the size to pay less nor did I want to pay more for the newer model and get a smaller size. If there was an m1 model that was 15 inches I would’ve bought that.
Apple should have retained the clean design of the 2019 MacBook Pros while adding 4 or 5 Thunderbolt ports to each side for enhanced productivity and flexibility. I don't find the touchbars beneficial for productivity, so I'm fine with their removal in favor of regular keys. I like the thinner bezels and don't mind the notch. In addition, I believe Apple should have included both Face ID and a fingerprint reader in the MacBook Pros for user flexibility.
My 15 inch just got delivered the other day, I had the MacBook Pro 16 and don’t regret downgrading at all. The 15 is not too bulky, sleek, and runs just fine for my needs for now.
3 usb and 3.5 audio on the left side, no magsafe would have been much better. The extra usb would be more useful and the audio on the left wouldnt be in the way of the mouse, which where the mouse would be 90% of the time since most a people are right handed.
I got myself the 15 Air with 24GB RAM and 256 SSD, the reason why I went with the configuration is cause I use a gaming monitor as a 2nd Monitor display which can use significant energy when I have 2 windows open on an browser so that extra RAM is very useful and there is NO alternatives for extra ram while I do have a 5TB external hard drive which there is many alternatives and having a bigger screen on the MacBook Air for less then 2000 bucks is just insane value. I was thinking at a Pro version at first but just to have the 14 M2 Pro is already 2000 bucks + tax and I don’t really need the HDMI port since I already have a USB Hub, overall I love the portability of the MacBook Air 15 and upgrading it from my Intel 2020 MacBook Air is a huge Win for me! Especially adding the Educational Pricing Discount!

I have a Magic Keyboard with my work computer with the larger function row. It took me a while to get used to it, but now the older style keyboard function row and Touch ID feel cramped.
The best and most honest review of the 15 inch macbook air ever. Most people don't need a pro model. Thanks for your great review.
I love this MacBook Air 15! Big screens for the win! ❤️
I couldn't ask for a better laptop/MacBook
what pro is the best? mbp m3 max 16 inch?
MacBook air m1 here and still going just as good. Battery life has gone down to only on one day but it is still good and no need to upgrade
I have 13” M2 Air with 16GB unified memory 512GB ssd and besides the fact it doesn’t fact that it doesn’t have the best display I’m loving it
I'm doing something similar: 16" M1 Pro MBP (with shell that weighs 1 lb.!) to maxed out 13" MacBook Air (and no shell), for all that portability goodness while traveling.
that gundam adds such a nice touch to starlight
I am loving my MacBook Air 13" with the m1....going to have this till it dies. So happy with my purchase several years ago. Love the vids Judd!!
have the 13" macbook air m2. loaded up with 1TB drive 16GB ram, even opted for 10-core chip. completely prefer this over my work macbook m1 max. yes that is great, but with small compromise in power, i get incredible portability and i'm in love with the reduction in weight, with an incredible design. pretty much the lowest-end laptops like the macbook air m1 are merely great, then they scale to really great then insanely great. what a time to be an apple laptop enthusiast.
I am using a Macbook Air 13" with M2 since August 2022, the best machine ever. No need for changes/upgrading
I still have my Macbook Pro M1 2020 and its been good to me these few years no complaints
Hi 3:25 What Apple band is that on your ultra? Thanks
I love my M2 MacBook Pro, but the 15” looks great too. If they had these out when I bought my Pro I may have gone for it
I edit all of my long ass 4K videos on an M1 MacBook Air. It’s fine.
Excellent video. I have the M1 MacBook Air right now and am considering upgrading to the M2 but of course I don't really NEED to...I mainly want the larger screen and sexy new design!
Still rocking the original M1 MacBook Air. I edit all my photos out of my Sony a7r II in raw in Lightroom and the machine never flinches.
Just purchased our first MacBook, and it’s this one with 512gb. Looking forward to using it!
Nice video. As always. I’m still rocking my 14 inch MacBook Pro M1 Pro. It’s going to be a couple of years before I even think about upgrading.
that is an absolutely great computer. the only distraction is that apple keeps producing great computers, it's a great time to be into laptops
what a good vibe while watching this video with a Macbook air m2 15
I just got a used M2 15 inch macbook air. The other night I used it from 8pm to about 3am and was at 67% battery life when I put it away. I could have gone a full 12 hours. Where I work I have a lot of down time so we are able to bring personal laptops to work.
A lot of that down time is spent watching youtube videos of something from my Emby server. If apple silicon is nothing else, its very power efficient.
Good to hear, I just got myself one too. Nice video man 💯
Been waiting for this one
Where did you get that Gundam decal. If I could get a Heavy Arms decal I would throw my paper at it quick.
Great review. My favorite features are the 2888x1864 screen res and magsafe charger allowing both usb-c ports to be free.
2:07 I call it Champaign gold
Just got this laptop in silver gray, it's absolutely amazing. Also, amazing video, +1 like from me!
Hi, nice to see your reviews.
Question what Apple Watch band are you rocking in this video
I dont care about the 120Hz Display. But i wish the Air had mini LED.
The Air lineup is doing good
I tried the Air 15” for a week or so and returned it.
@@markslima1557wow 🎉🎉🎉
Can you review the Dell Inspiron 16 5625 please🙂?
I bought the 13’ m2 air. I couldn’t agree more. Totally worth it for ave consumer. I moved up from a 2015 mbp 😅.
I've been using a 16-inch M1 Pro MacBook Pro since January 2022 and I've had no desire to upgrade at all. In fact, I see this laptop lasting past the four years that my old early 2011 17-inch MacBook Pro did.
I have a 14inch Mac book pro (M1) for music production and it’s perfect still, love your content bro 🔥🔥
Battery King, Easily work 2 days or 16 hours on single charge, I charged the laptop to 100% at 10.00PM, then closed the lid without turning it off, then on next day morning at 11.00AM I started working on website development with 50% brightness [ no music etc. running in background ], then stopped for 2 hours from 4.00PM to 6.00PM again closed the lid didn't turn off, then again worked from 6.00PM to 9.00PM, and closed the lid with 55% battery left, then on next day again started work again at 11.00AM with same schedule and at 7.00PM battery was at 10% plugged the charger by the time I am done working battery was again at 100%
Perfect! I decid to use mac air m2 15`and it was the best opction for me too. Im an actor
The only wish I have for the Mack book air is pro motion and 500gb ssd for the base model. It already has enough power for even pro users
This is the perfectachine if you already have a beast gaming pc back home.
"easily one of my favourite Mac's so far" - that is throwaway statement of the century.
Noti gang always first 💪
If this is your first MacBook like me. The the MacBook Air is awesome!
Respect to the God Gundam or Burning Gundam sticker of the back of the laptop. It looks sick
Where can you get a Sticker Like This ?
Apple should have retained the clean design of the 2019 MacBook Pros while adding 4 or 5 Thunderbolt ports to each side for enhanced productivity and flexibility. I don't find the touchbars beneficial for productivity, so I'm fine with their removal in favor of regular keys. I like the thinner bezels and don't mind the notch. In addition, I believe Apple should have included both Face ID and a fingerprint reader in the MacBook Pros for user flexibility.
Love my MacBook Air 13 in m2 sliver 16GB 1TB for my DJING career
I want to upgrade but can't find a reason 2. I have the M1 MacBook Air. I still use it daily and I love it
My 15 inch just got delivered the other day, I had the MacBook Pro 16 and don’t regret downgrading at all. The 15 is not too bulky, sleek, and runs just fine for my needs for now.
What made you downgrade, do you miss the screen refresh rate?
That wallpaper is stunning. Where can I get it?
Still happy with my m1 MacBook Air after multiple years. I’ve never been so happy with a Mac. I will run it until it doesn’t get software updates.
🙏🏾 really appreciate the advice for the 15” MacBook book, wanting to would it carry out my video editing task short to medium videos?
Love the wallpapers! Can you share them?
I have an M1Pro 14" And I'm very happy with it. I think my next upgrage will be intheir next redesign of the Pro models.
I’m about to pull the trigger on one of these, coming from an IPad Pro M1.
Can someone tell me where can I get the wallpaper that was on the MBP 16" at 01:50 ?
where do you get your wallpapers?
