  • The timing chain chain tensioner failed and caused the timing chain to skip teeth. This means pistons hit and bend valves. Here I am replacing all the inlet valves and recovering 1 exhaust valve.

    Nice job on the repair. When I did the same repair on my TSI I cheated and bought a new cylinder head with valves- but I could have save a few dollars if I had just done a valve job.

    What socket are you using

      I modified a 17mm deep socket

    If the timing chain broke, would any of the con rods be bent?

      I think the possibility of that happening in the EA888 engine would be pretty unlikely. Even if valves broke off (and got compressed) I think the chance of bending a con rod would be unlikely. Although I’d be pretty concerned about balance shafts, oil pump, cams and related components.
