    Coach - That guard pull into a sweep was very very cool. I like these style videos - a lot of techniques we can see to get inspired. How about you pick a date and the youtube community could come up to Montreal for a Seminar and MAPLE SYRUP.

    Awesome video. Firas, would you ever consider going through the basics of your stand-up/wrestling game? How to control the inside, how to use the overhook (which you use for web guard etc.) in a way that prevents your opponent from hip throwing you, how to maintain that upright stance without getting double legged? I would hurt myself a lot less if I knew how to stay cool up there :)

    Hi Firas, somewhere down the line could you do a video on the guillotine variations you like to use for no gi. I have received lots of different information on different grips, Marcelo variation, some say it should be a blood choke others don't. Would be very interested to know how your version of the high elbow guillotine "comes on" and how you squeeze to finish.
    Great video, as always :)

    Hi Firas just want to say thanks a lot I'm learning so much from this Channel, would appreciate it if you could show more wrestling positions having trouble when your opponent has a single leg while standing and finding it hard to defend especially when they are stronger and always get my other leg swept and just feel lost

    • @CoachZahabi
      @CoachZahabi  9 лет назад +1

      128ciaran Yes most definitely. I use the single leg a lot and I also believe the single leg should be considered as a type of Guard. As for defending that is also a great topic of interest for all of us at Tristar. I will definitely be showing some stuff I think everyone will love from the single leg position.

    I Really liked the guard pull to sweep. What pointers would you give to avoid too much impact when using this kind of technique? I notice your Partner is a fair bit taller I have found at times committed guard pulls can be a big drop with tall guys. Really appreciate you posting these.

    • @CoachZahabi
      @CoachZahabi  9 лет назад +1

      Very good point. In my opinion all training should be LOW IMPACT. This is so important. If your in it for the long run low impact training is a must. How do u pull guard without breaking your back. Notice the angle in which I land, notice how I land rolling. The impact in transferred slowly into the ground and not for very long. This takes practice for course and I will definitely cover it in Guard pull 2.0

    • @Gymrat2006
      @Gymrat2006 9 лет назад +1

      Tristar Gym Thank you for your reply Firas. I see what you are saying about the rolling nature of how you go in for the guard pull / sweep kind of looks to me like the arm going in first acts much in the same way as it would in a forward roll break fall distributing the force over the shoulder and back ? Looking forward to guard pull 2.0 much respect form the UK OSS

    Jump in to the Guard sweep seems to be very Dangerous what if I got lazy and fall on my arm Coach? when should i pull that move out?
    I Love your vids bye the way!

    • @CoachZahabi
      @CoachZahabi  9 лет назад

      Alejandro Mercutio your right, without proper training you can break you arm or back jumping guard. However with proper preparation it becomes and easy way to bring te fight to the ground. The first place to start is to know you break falls and then basic tumbling, easy stuff, after that how to guard pull in a way that doesnt allow for a slam. Stay tuned I will be posting a lot of stuff on guard puling and will demo it live in sparring vs MMA fighters. Should be fun.

      Tristar Gym Once Rory beats Robbie, it seems like Johny is going to be his first title defense... Do you think that Guard pull into the Pendulum sweep would be a good technique to use... Rory doesn't necessarily have to pull guard... BUT Hendricks is known to try and slam his opponents when he goes for his takedowns... Does that sweep work for someone who is about to be taken down???
      ***UPDATE***
      I just checked out your video "Guard Pulling 2.0" (or the preview rather)... And I can almost see the answer to my question... Those techniques would work so well against a strong wrestler like Hendricks... If this is the stuff that Rory is learning......................................................... DAMN... I feel sorry for the rest of the division... I fail to see ANYONE who is going to be trouble for Rory... Both standing and on the ground.

  • @danlemieux691

    I would love to see some trips techniques to bring my opponent to the ground... good for competition but also for self defence... My bjj is getting not to bad, but, in a street altercation... it would be nice to have 2-3 go to easy trips and neutralize the oponent quickly.

    • @zshakur
      @zshakur 9 лет назад

      Dan Lemieux Check out the Gracie combatives. There's a few easy-to-learn throws (hip toss, over the shoulder throw, fireman's carry). also Tashi Troy Price has some good vids on trips and throws. He's doing Japanese JJ but you'll see the similarities right away.

  • @thomasrad6296
    @thomasrad6296 7 лет назад

    As an effective technique i agree that leg locks are a finishing move. However we need to be concerned about the issue with the damage it can cause, and specifically under the conditions of a tournament setting. I can see why leg locks are not allowed in certain tournaments. It just puts to much at risk.

    you think we'll ever see x guard/single leg x in mma?

    • @WhtMike2006
      @WhtMike2006 9 лет назад

      +jcracker We already have. I can think of a few examples. GSP swept Dan Hardy in one of the middle round with a standard 1 leg x sweep. If you watch the match between Lucio Linhares and Palhares, Linhares played quite a bit of x guard on Palhares before getting heel hooked. Ryan Hall plays 1 leg x in mma. RDA tried x guard against Khabib. Edson Barbosa has tried also.
      It's there. But in MMA they're basically sweeps. You won't see people hanging out there for very long. It's like when Wilson Reis plays deep half in mma. As soon as he gets the position he is sweeping.

  • @joemayall
    @joemayall 9 лет назад

    Hey Firas, huge fan. I noticed that when you pull guard you jumped into it. Do you think that is a dangerous tactic? It seems easy to slam your head, or worse have your opponent slam you if it's MMA. how do you prefer to pull guard in MMA where slams are legal? Thanks!

    • @CoachZahabi
      @CoachZahabi  9 лет назад

      It can be dangerous but not if you pull guard the right way. I will be putting a video series together covering how to pull guard. I will also be showing how to pull guard live in sparring. Lots of cool stuff ahead on this channel. Stay tuned.

  • @Ofirleibeltrading

    What do you think about pulling guard in mma?

    • @f0cus2021SOT
      @f0cus2021SOT 9 лет назад

      ***** Bad idea imo, too many variables. He can pick you up and slam you, or instantly shove an elbow in your face, I would'nt recommand it.

    • @CoachZahabi
      @CoachZahabi  9 лет назад +2

      ***** Pulling Guard the old school way can get you hurt bad, but I have develop many different methods of doing so that I believe will bring the Guard pull back to MMA in the future, "Guard Pull 2.0" as I like to call it is a series that has been inspired by many of the guard pulling masters in MMA and my own developments.

    • @Ofirleibeltrading
      @Ofirleibeltrading 9 лет назад

      what do you mean when you say the "old school way"? hugging your opponent head and try to "cook" him until something opens up?
      i talked about pulling guard and as soon as we hit the floor start to attack for a sweep or submisoion or rubber guard/'williams guard

    • @f0cus2021SOT
      @f0cus2021SOT 9 лет назад +2

      ***** I know that I wouldn't try it as it is right now. If I get confident enough that I know I can instantly sweep the guy I might try. Since I'm not good enough for that I won't recommand it.

    • @Ofirleibeltrading
      @Ofirleibeltrading 9 лет назад +1

      its easier for me to be good on the bottom because i am long so i am more confident having my opponet in my guard then be in his guard
      anyway i prefer to keep the fight standing because it takes less energy from me rather than grapple and strike at the same time

    Firas, thank you for this video! Nice as usual. What do you think about this D'arce escape? ruclips.net/video/UVU_UDMR8Wo/видео.html And maybe you can show your favorite way to escape?

    • @CoachZahabi
      @CoachZahabi  9 лет назад +2

      MrXander1981 Nice escape but I believe the person applying the Darce would simply sprawl to avoid being rolled over. Also by reaching and grabbing your leg you open up your elbow which would allow the attacker to slide to mount making the choke even tighter. I personally don't try to escape this way will definitely try and post a darce escape in the near future.
