    Love your saying "universal BJJ." Especially relevant for the average person who doesn't aspire to compete in major competitions. Your techniques should work for any situation

    You release some of the best technique videos I have seen thus far. I have only seen footwork, jiu-jitsu and wrestling technique so far, but the clarity you have presented them with puts them beyond other technique videos. Please, keep them coming.

    Awesome video. The examples make a huge difference.
    I kept trying to control bigger guys from my back and they'd get out. This is the answer!

    I just love these videos. Very helpful and detailed. What I wouldn't give to train there with you :) I also love that kimura grip used in armbar. A lot of great options with that. I would also like to see some stuff with clinch, both wrestling and muay thai. I'm interested in your philosophies regarding a fight while in those positions. Thanks for the videos and keep up the good work.

    I can't tell you how much respect and thanks I have for you and your gym. Not just the training, the thought and research into the what works, and philosophy lesson. I still think about a conversation we had over 2 years ago. Till the next time I can get up there to roll. Thanks.

    Great video with great tips! Another good tip for rolling your opponent when you are spinning under to escape the stack is to get as parallel as possible to his body - it completely offbalances them.

    wow, best explanation of the armbar I saw... My weakest link is I'm doing something wrong when setting it up, and I can never get my hips in the right angle to hit the arm bar, so usually the guy is pulling his arm out. Not sure how to position my hip firmly behind his elbow (?) or tricep (?)

    "Im good at taking the back but I just can't finish" at 4:31 made me smile :) Im glad Im not the only one that thinks armbars are a good investment, especially for mma because of the gloves. Eddie bravo believes in armbars as well. Look at what happened to marcelo in mma, he couldn't finish an ordinary mma fighter and he had his back and he's known for the guillotine.

    That first armbar is the Fedor armbar. I used to do BJJ and we were taught the basic grab across to opposite tricep, foot on the hip, clamp down the other leg on the body, etc. Only one problem. I never got anyone in it. So one day I saw the way Fedor armbarred Coleman (like the first armbar shown in this video). Started getting armbars all the time.

    Hi Firas! Was wondering if its legal to pull webguard in tournaments as a White belt, since jumping guard is illegal as white belt ( at least here in Sweden it is ), but webguard looks more like a takedown or a sweep, so you what do you think?
    Also thanks a for the videos! they are super great!

    Great video as always. I love watching your breakdowns.
    One question about the street defense videos though: Do you ever worry about punching an attacker on the street/concrete? I'm worried, that his head might hit the ground. It has happened to a lot of people in situations that didn't even seem so dangerous and you could easily kill someone like that. Any advice for that situation?

    • @CoachZahabi
      @CoachZahabi  9 лет назад +3

      YC If there is more then 1 attacker Im punching if there is only 1 attacker I will prefer wrestling/grappling and doing the least amount of damage possible. Ultimately you should only you Martials Arts for self-defence.Follow this rule and you will very likely never face charges. Lastly if someone give you no other choice but to hit them then they in essence are responsible for there own bodily damage.

      seandavidr try switch to reverse kessa gatame soon after you pass the guard

  • @szymonstarosta7117
    @szymonstarosta7117 5 лет назад

    why would you use this quick spinning armor from guard instead the more controlled top lock armbar from guard (as currently taught by all the high level bjj coaches)?

  • @Ofirleibeltrading
    @Ofirleibeltrading 9 лет назад +1

    awsome staff.
    if someone actully need someone to tell/teach him to use the fance/wall for the technique. it means he dont know how to adept and adjust himself for combat situations.

    • @CoachZahabi
      @CoachZahabi  9 лет назад +1

      ***** maybe. I guess some have to be taught how to adapt more then others.

    • @Ofirleibeltrading
      @Ofirleibeltrading 9 лет назад

      i think the adaptation part is what make the diffrence between a great figther and a world chempion

    • @CoachZahabi
      @CoachZahabi  9 лет назад

      very true!

    • @Ofirleibeltrading
      @Ofirleibeltrading 9 лет назад +1

      do you think you can teach/give your students tools that can teach them how to adept or it something you born with?

    • @CoachZahabi
      @CoachZahabi  9 лет назад +1

      ***** Yes I believe everything is a skill and everything can be taught, however that said we are in many ways different and some are more naturally inclined to learn certain skills. This is the classic nature vs nurture argument. Very difficult to drawn and definite line.

    Hey Firas, great to see a new bjj video up. I have a couple of questions. would you be inclined to give a couple lessons to a somewhat beginner in bjj, because i might be en the Montreal within the coming year? if you do not have the time, that is understandable, but i thought i would never hurt to ask. Also is it true you have a BA degree in philosophy? i'm just curious as i am a philosophy student myself. Anyway keep the good work up and I can't wait to see Rory get his belt!

    • @CoachZahabi
      @CoachZahabi  9 лет назад

    I love your vids man, you are a great coach. I can't help but notice that you start of by showing championship JUDO footage, then go into showing off classical judo armbar techniques, then call out Ronda Rousey by name, and not once do you mention the great sport of Judo. BJJ is in the title though... I find that interesting. That is all :)

    is there any reason why you leave the foot in front of his face instead of putting your shin on the back of his head during the juji squish roll type position? is it just preference?

    • @CoachZahabi
      @CoachZahabi  9 лет назад

      tyb7 If Im on the back (top) and transition to the "power position" or "Juji squish roll" as you put it I will place my shin on the back of the neck like you mention. However is I got to armbar from the bottom position (Guard) I don't know yet if I will need to go to the "power position". This all depends on if my opponent stacks me (drive his head above mine). If this situation occurs it would be less "tight" for me to now transition to shin behind the head. This is just my personal preference of course, if you feel "tighter" with transition the shin behind the head, then keep doing it.

    • @CoachZahabi

      JiuJitsu9 I would say its question of preference. I feel its tighter with the leg in front but sometimes find myself using my shin, especially if attack this position from the top.
