49ers are my team, but that Bears defense... only got better the longer they played.

Right!? Like how do we not see that one more often on the classic highlights?

What hurts Jim is he was so publicized that even people who know nothing about the game of football, will have opinions on his play.
Which is how one of the “Greats”, gets called “average”. 😊

10 to 9. This was a monster win for the Chicago Bears in 1988. So many injuries, to so many key players in 1988 really hurt the Bears chance for another Super Bowl championship. Go Bears!

Ppl forget how great the Bears were from 1986-1988. Their defense in 1988 was consistently as excellent as it was in 1985. If McMahon hadn’t had his shoulder destroyed by the dirty hit in Green Bay in 1986, the Bears would’ve won more rings. Great teams.

@@r.williamcomm7693No. Their defense wasn't as good 86-88 as in 85.

This was Peak NFL, 90s began the decline mainly due to salary cap and free agentpee to keep badly run teams going, then 9-11-01 and 2002 realamement killed it, not to mention the politicalbs since 2015

For a time, these were the 2 dominant Super Powers of the NFC, led by 2 great Field Generals on opposite sides. Unfortunately, Mac just couldn't stay healthy. And Montana benefited from having the greatest Head Coach of the 1980's. While Mac was stuck with Mike Ditka calling the plays. 🤦

Even as a kid I believed that it was pretty obvious that Jim McMahon won as often as he did in spite of the offense he was forced to play in with the Bears. And when one also considers that Ditka broke every other quarterback that ever played under him, you’d think there would be a little more appreciation for what he was able to accomplish in Chicago but unfortunately that’s just not the case.

Geez, if McMahon ever had an offense to play with. Ditka as the play caller, below average weapons to throw to.
