the grills that Tom says are "yuck" is what everyone else cooks on everyday.. LOL! Nice video Tom!
Lol! Thanks for watching Darrin!
Absolutely! Why clean the inside of a grill??? That stuck on ash stuff is probably insulation. Makes it hold heat like a big green egg!
Lol! Or start a grease fire, Thanks for Watching!
That looks great! I’m restoring a 1992 kettle now that is this model. I’m not going to go as far as you did, but it will look good when it is done!
Thanks for watching Joey! Enjoy!
That looks like a million bucks. Incredible work
Thanks! Had allot fun doing it!
I never thought about using car metal polish, but I have it already and will use it now.
The design for the bowl scraper is a great idea too.
Thanks for Watching Ryan! Enjoy!
Some people restore old clocks..others restore old cars..this man restores old Weber grills. Why? Why not?! Good stuff, Weberman! You go, sir!!!
Thanks! I appreciate you watching!
I need to go out and clean my grill! if only it would stop raining! awesome video Tom! Rock On!
Thanks! It was fun!
I just got a red 26er from 1970. Thanks for the tips!
Thanks for watching! I’m jealous!
I find these grills a lot.
Good video
Thanks for Watching!
My mom that passed away in 2009 grilled many of wonderful meats on one similar to this. I think I am going to give restoring it a shot.
Thanks for Watching Jeff! Let us know how it turns out!
I pulled a 1990 kettle out of a neighbor's trash pile a few months ago and I'm gonna try this! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching Joe!
Beautiful restoration Tom. That will make a perfect little cooker for rotisserie. Awesome that you brought it back to life.
Thanks Gary! Had allot of fun doing it!
What a great project. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and passion for restoring and modifying Weber’s. It’s fun to watch the transformation!
Thank you! I appreciate you Watching!
Absolutely amazing MK Tom!! Great restoration! That thing looks brand new!
Thanks Brian! Took me awhile to figure out “MK”, but I got now...Thank you!
GREAT JOB on he renovation Tom, it is always so satisfying to bring one of these old warriors back and congratulations on the rotisserie deal, you outlasted them! Looking forward to your rotisserie maiden cook.
Thanks for Watching Ed! Me too! Can’t wait!
Pretty cool restore. I have had mine for 35 years and it never looked that bad, it stays outside year-round in Central Illinois.
I bought a second one about two years ago because I did not want to pay for a few parts on my old one. I cook on old one as often as the new one.
Thanks for Watching!
Awesome video I been looking for an old weber to restore. You did a hell of a job.
Thank you! I appreciate you Watching!
I have two old kettles that need work. This helps!
Thanks for watching! Enjoy!
I have the same one from a garage sale for $3 some 20 years ago. This gives me the incentive go do the same. Thanks Tom.,
Thanks for watching Steven!
Great job Tom, Let me share a secret with ya..
Sam's Club has a Griddle,Grill, Fryer, Oven cleaner, it comes in a three bottle package..that stuff takes off everything including the burnt on carbon you had in the lid... I use it on all of my grates, smokers and griddles... Its amazing.. Its in the commercial kitchen chemical isle.
Thanks Larry! I’ll look for it. Thanks for the tip!
Thanks for that will look for on next trip.
Great video! Thanks for sharing the products you use to get them looking pretty!
Thanks for watching Bill!
Great restoration Tom. Talk about a diamond in the rough, you polished that baby right up. Great video brother. Have a great day.
Thanks for watching! Had allot of fun in the process!
Great resto Tom! Two recommendations that I’ve use numerous times. That lid will look new inside with a razor scraper, you just have to put enough pressure to conform the blade to the lid. Second is on that dent in the lid. I use a nylon hammer and just lightly tap that dent from the inside and it will look like it was never there! Another great video from TH!!
Thanks for Watching Doug! Appreciate the tips!
Just found and restored a 1970ish Cue Cart I found for 15 dollars. Made by Atlanta Stove Works. It was very filthy, but no rust. This is the ultimate in BBQ grills
Nice! Thanks for watching Larry!
Great video. I have a Weber kettle like this about 5 years old. Good old British weather hasn't been kind to my Weber. Even have the cover from Weber too. Thanks to your video I'm going to have a go at a restoration myself. Thanks 👍
Thanks for Watching! Have Fun!
This is great! I passed up an old, red 22" Weber this spring b/c it looked like the inside of the lid was peeling off. It definitely wasn't in as good a shape as the one you restored. But now I know it really is possible, so thanks, Tom!
If I can do it, so campy you! Thanks for Watching!
Awesome job Tom the grill looks great. Looking forward to seeing the rotisserie in action
Thanks Mike! Had allot of fun doing it!
Tom, you have inspired me to clean up my Weber Performer. I changed the air paddles about 3 years ago and getting that rusty control arm out was a bear. Good to know about Gel Gloss. Often wondered how you keep those grills looking like new. Thanks again for another great video.
Thanks for Watching Tom!
Wow! Great work and good tips. Love the accessories added.
Thanks for watching!
Great job on the restore..! 22 years of blemishes is really a beautiful grill that has character..! I like that you are going to use it specifically as a rotisserie grill.
Thanks for Watching Ron! Had allot of fun in the process!
Looks great Tom!! I had a brown one with wooden handles decades ago..Was my first..Looking forward to seeing yours in action...😁
Thanks Randy! You will!
This is my first time watching you. I have a 20 year old 18 inch Weber grill and now I'm going to try and restore it! I also have a rectangular portable Weber grill that's about 17 or 18 years old that I use frequently that I am now going to try to restore. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks for Watching Edgar! Have fun!
It’s STUNNING!!! You gave it so much TLC and have restored this beauty to her original glory! Can you come help us clean ours!? They are in desperate need of some cleaning!!!😂 Awesome vid as usual, Tom!!!💃🏻🔥
Lol! Thanks for watching Ladies! Anytime!
Work of art!
Thanks for Watching Jason! Thank you
You are a legend Tom thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching Eric!
Nice restore project. It came out really nice 👍🏻. Looking forward to seeing some cooks on it.
Thanks Michael!
Great video Tom!
My neighbor gave me a 1996 red Weber that needs a restoration. I gave it to my brother in law who is all pumped up to fix it. This video is perfect reference and inspiration.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. You are the Tony Stark of grills!
Thanks! I appreciate you watching and commenting!
Don't know why I'm just now seeing this video, but am glad I did. I loved your restoration of the PK Grill, and that got me started on your channel. My girlfriend's PK is from 1972 and I've done some of the stuff you did to it. Love that thing. Anyways, girlfriend also has an old and abused "Kenmore" 22 inch kettle at her cabin. This video gives me motivation to give that a shot....it needs it. Love the rotisserie modification as well.
Thanks for watching Daniel!
That thing cleaned up nice! Keep up the good work!
Thanks Matt! I appreciate you Watching!
I know you used Zep products, but if you can't find the purple degreaser, Castrol has the purple stuff which is really great. Also Dollar Tree has a great grille cleaner. It can even be used indoors on Kitchen ovens with out the fumes you can get from the usual oven cleaners!! I'm looking to replace the wooden handles on mine.
I enjoyed watching how you fixed and gave your $50.dollar find.
Thanks again for the information you shared.😁😁
Thanks for watching! Appreciate the information
Glad to share. I used to supervise a couple of tree crews, and that's how I found the Castrol degreaser. Enjoyed your video!
Man, I have a 18" that could use a restoration! I'll have to keep these tips and tricks in mind if it ever becomes time for me to restore it. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Dash! Appreciate you watching!
Tom. you are the man. You should be in the Webber Hall of Fame. That was my first Webber. I love the wooden handles. I have a wooden side table but lost the hardware. Beautiful grill after you finished it. You should include the Missus in a video since she puts up with all of this in her garage.
Thanks for Watching Fred! Who’s Garage? Lol!
Beautiful job Tom .Im gonna look out for an old Weber to refurbish.
Thanks Ben! I appreciate your support and comments!
Nice job 👌🏻
Thanks for watching Kevin!
Well done. Looks fantastic...
Thanks Thomas!
Am I the only one who finds restoration of old bbqs quite fascinating? lol
Thanks for Watching! Me too!
Sweet! Love my Webers!
Me too! Thanks for Watching!
Tom, Amazing restoration ! I will clean mine it is about 20-25 years old I got mine on a garage sale for 20.00 bucks few years back. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching! I appreciate it!
Looks amazing
Thanks for Watching Frank!
Wow! Nice restomod Tom. That grill is a beauty. I just restored an old Kingsford grill that I gave to a friend who didn't have a grill at all and she's quite happy with it. It didn't come out as good as this one. 👍
Thanks for Watching Mike! I appreciate the feedback! Thanks!
Awesome project and video, Tom. I have a Weber CB Performer and do a deep clean like you a couple of times each year but it never looks that good!. Was afraid to use a metal scrapper due to scratching so had some plastic 2" ones from a forgotten project. They work great with no danger of damage to the grill finish. They quickly take on the shape of the kettle so even better. Love your channel and admire your collection. We have the Performer, Akorn - a recent handmedown from my son-in-law and a Blaze gasser built-in. Need a bigger Lanai...
Thanks for watching Tom!
Looks great!
Thanks for Watching TJ!
Looks awesome, Tom. Just did the same to a lazy K code Weber. Great video!
Thank you! Jealous of the K code! I appreciate you Watching!
I've just finished my DIY side table today. One accessory I am super pleased with is the aftermarket lid holder that clips over the edge (much like that wire shelf). Totally recommended.
Thanks for Watching and for the tip!
Tom Horsman Kim
Beautiful job!
Thanks for Watching Michael!
Dang that looks good! Definitely has inspired me to start cleaning my Weber grills out. I was just looking for Cool paint schemes for a new Weber Q2200 grill I just purchased. Want to see what others do to put their own accent color on the lid, but this came out great. Awesome job!
Thanks Omar! I appreciate you Watching and commenting!
Looks great!!!!
Thanks for Watching!
Great job!
Thanks for Watching!
Great work man! Zep makes some good products! And Danish oil is an awesome finish. Solid work from the land of grills!
Thank you! I appreciate you Watching!
Wow, I thought I had an illness for grills. My wife would have already killed me and then divorced me if I had this many grills. Great video!
Lol! Thanks for watching!
Great job. I have a similar restoration in my future. Doing some research. Again, nicely done!
Thanks for watching! Have fun
Very cool. Great job.
Thanks Jason!
Been waiting on this video for a while.....WELL DONE SIR!! Looks like new..... Great job....
I be been waiting on your comment! Thanks for watching! Had allot of fun doing it!
Great video, I also have my first Weber circa 1997 E-code 18inch kettle just put on new wood handles and new bottom vents. Top vent is still going strong only had to clean up, the legs are still good but needed new charcoal grate.
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Awesome job
Thanks for Watching!
Love your videos, Tom. I've always owned a Smokey Joe and I even have a 18 inch (Jack Daniels logo) sitting in my mini storage that I got when I was a wine and spirits rep. Probably only cooked on it a few times! I've caught the Weber bug and I'm excited to get better with them since I've only ever done simple grilling with them.
Thanks for Watching! Enjoy!
Man...I enjoyed your vid! Thanks for that...and also the great tips. I inherited an ooold (no idea hoe old probably 25+ years) Weber from my dad and have been meaning to restore it for a while. Poor thing is literally in pieces - but what a workhorse! Definitely gonna do that now.
Thanks for Watching Andre! Good luck on the re store!
Great video, thanx Tom..
Thanks for Watching Jim!
Awesome job Tom.!!
The Mothers Mag polish is great stuff, but I've had extremely good results on the outside of the kettles using Turtle wax Chrome polish. It's cheap easy to to use holds up well and really leaves a very shiny finish that cleans up well later on. Just thought I'd throw that out there if you haven't tried it.
Always looking forward for your next kettle videos.
Thanks for watching! And for the tip!
You definitely used 2 of Zep's best products. Their degreaser is very good and the oven/grill cleaner is expensive but worth every penny. I scrape all the thick stuff between cooks but I found if I take a small piece of Scotch-Brite pad and quickly go over the dried stuff it wipes down just as nice. I would much rather do that - it's very quick and really cuts down on the big clean-ups and chemicals. That may also help on the lid. Great video!
Thanks for watching! Appreciate the tips!
when the inside of the bowl is shiny and smooth the air flow increases 10 fold. You can get the temperature up to 500 or more. Its all about that air flow against the inner wall
Thanks for Watching!
That turn out nice !
Thanks for Watching Bart!
Great video 👍
Thanks for Watching Robert!
Looks great.
Thanks!
I want that side table so bad >__<
Great restoration.
Thanks for Watching ! There out there, I see them occasionally on FB marketplace
I just bought a used Weber 22 inch exactly like this one with the three daisy wheel vents on the bottom. Mine is a 1996 was much cleaner than yours. I took it apart, cleaning the rust off the triangle wheel assembly using baking soda and vinegar followed by green rubbing compound and then Auto glym polish and wax. For the kettle i used LA's totally Awesome degreaser (straight), then baking soda and vinegar, followed with Dawn dish soap. The kettle came out smooth and clean with some minor defects and scratches. I only used nylon brushes and scrubbing pads. It took me hours to clean the charcoal grates and grilling grates again using vinegar baking soda then Bar keepers. I coated the charcoal grate with grapeseed oil as rust kept coming back on it. I will probably buy and use a long stem probe for a thermometer through the top vent instead on drilling a thermometer in. For the wood handles I used Howard's feed and wax probably a mistake as it has petroleum distillates, should have use the the Howards cutting board conditioner. I will probably buy a wireless thermometer maybe a Meater. It all came out like new condition. It also came with a charcoal starter which i somewhat cleaned up. All for $35 I did call Weber(they were great talked with Roy) and buy the hub cap package for the rubber cap for the front leg, $8. I did not get the spring clips and it would not work on mine without drilling. Thanks for the video Tom good job!
Thanks for Watching! Great job on restoring your Weber!
thats amazing, the black enamel on mine is very faded, there is even a few rust patches i found underneath the kettle. i used a small putty knife the get the gunk out from inside at least, but the rest has seen better days. mine is a 2002 code and i bought it used for 40 dollars. i figure i keep it going til it cant go anymore. but you give me hope that i can bring mine back.
Thanks for watching! It is doable!
Great Job!
Thanks!
Nice job!
Thanks John!
Got the Orange brown one like this with wooden handles. Belong to my parents from the 70s.
Thanks for watching! Nice! I am jealous!
That’s a good lookin grill!
Thanks Anthony! I appreciate you watching!
I have an EZ too! Literally just finished restoring it. I have the rotisserie ring, counterweight and motor. The serial number on the motor is 007.
Thanks for watching!
Phenomenal! Haha does that guy know what it looks like now? He would have asked double Haha. But for that side table and spice rack good for you! Now I gotta go shopping on marketplace
Thanks for Watching Paul!
Super job Tom. I need to find me one to restore, feel its about time to do something like it again. I also subscribe to the "devoted" rotisserie kettle, i use my 22 inch compact for that, its a good use of it seeing as its got a lower heigth that i dont really like, but with the baskets it works really well for rotisswerie cooking .)
Thanks for watching Lasse! Had allot of fun!
Wonderful 😊😊😊
Thanks for watching Jackie!
That turned out beautiful- gonna have to shape a putty knife and get me some Zepp.
Thanks Louis! I had a ball doing it!
So much for infomertials, Your a full fledged Director now. Nice informative video project. The finished kettle was nice. I thought you might try heavy duty dough scraper for removing the initial grease build up. Always enjoy how you create tools and overcome. Now you have to create fire basket and deflector to sit back and relax on a long brisket cook.
Thanks for watching John! Here’s the charcoal basket and diffuser video, just in case you missed it ruclips.net/video/QdeNRoUPPIc/видео.html
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ I'm talking larger Tom Horsman basket with more coal capacity.
Ohhh... not sure, I thought I was good with that one..
Well Done!!!
Thanks!
Weber kettle timeless a great investment. What gas or pellett or electronic grill last that long with all the electric parts that go bad or rust out
Thanks for watching!
I think that was mine!! Ha ha. Great video, brings back memories.
Thanks for Watching Bobby! If you sold this in spring of 2020 on a Sunday in Grays Lake Illinois, then yes, it is. Turned out like new again!
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ Nah, it wasn't me! You have motivated me to clean and restore 2 kettles I have (2007/2010) for selling or teaching my kids the versatility of these time tested grills. Ordered some parts this am.
Nice!
Looks like my ketle. Makes great pizza and smoked ribs!
Gracias 😄
Thanks for watching Anthony!
Good save.
Thanks!
Next time take off the legs and put the bowl on top of a round plastic trash can before scraping.
Saves a ton of wear on the leg sockets.
- YardBurner
I am SO stealing the rounded scraper thing. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks for Watching!
I bought one here in Ireland about a year ago (2020) and it's the exact same as your 90s version. Cost me €200. It was the largest at 600mm and it was the most expensive also
Wow! Thanks for watching!
nice find - I have an 1980 or 81 that has just been sitting out there that I plan to do the same with. Hoping to find some nice wooden handles first.
Thanks for watching! Have fun!
Got my wood handles off of Esty. Good prices and engraving too!
Thanks! I'm gearing up to clean my H series (1986) kettle that belonged to my grandpa. I'm certain it has never been cleaned. 😳
Thanks for watching Amanda! Have fun!
Great video. I just picked up an EZ code (1998) BAR-B-KETTLE just like yours today. I'm looking forward to cleaning mine up and using my roti ring and Cajun Bandit stacker on it. I wonder if Weber made the BAR-B-KETTLE more available during certain years as opposed to others. I've also got an N code 1991 green 22.5 BBK. I've seen quite a few ER 1996, EZ 1998 and EE 1999s. Very few 97s, 95s and so on. The oldest version I've seen of the "econo" (when daisy wheel kettles were bumped to econo status after the advent of the One Touch) Weber series so far is 1987 J code. I've stumbled across a Sears/Kmart NIB J code. I snagged it last summer. Love these old kettles.
Thanks for Watching! Sound like you have an awesome collection!
I have a weber that is over 40 years old and still cooking.
Thanks for Watching Reggie! They do last along time!
That looks awesome 👌👍 nice job what product do you use for the outside of the BBQ to make it shine
Thanks for watching Rodney! Gel Gloss
That’s an awesome result! I wonder if treating the restore with McGuire products as if it was a a car restore work would work .
Thanks for Watching ! I’m sure they would work
Nice work. It really not necessary to take the vents completely off. Buy 0000 steel wool and disposable razor blades. 0000 steel wool removes grime but won’t scratch porcelain. Dawn and hot water work better than zep.
Thanks for watching!
