Thanks Wayne. You were one of the most talented programmers i ever met (i'm one of the geeks at the 3:10 mark). Now you are an equally gifted comedian. Proud to have worked with you!
koruki You are right. He does sound like Peter Griffin. I actually had to look it up so see when I read you commet. He's not but he does sound like him. He should be using that to his advantage.
I love this dude's epiphany.... mine is different but aligned in the higher order of things. Sense of humour.... god, I wish my sons had this marvelous quality in such spades. LOL
What he said at the end, so true, looking all the possibilities and what naturally emerges from them, that's the human potential solving problem capability and a realistic perspective over reality
Just seeing this Wayne. I can name Dave, Jim, Steve, Terry and I think Ben (all last names omitted) in at the pic. Just bumped into Steve last month. I see Dave every now and then. I was a co-op in '82/83-ish when you returned shortly, asking 'how in the world you give up being an engineer to become a comedian?'. You're inspiring re-tort took awhile. The thumbnail is me on stage in 2006.
Pigeon-holing people into professional categories is a heuristic people use to quickly "size-up" others and decide how to interact with them. The individual ego plays a big role in this. It is human nature to compare oneself with others. When someone comes along who is more knowledgeable and successful in one area, they automatically assume they must be deficient in other areas. This is the ego defense mechanism that allows people to avoid feeling inferior and attempts to belittle or find fault with others to minimize the apparent difference in "life success". The fact is, human abilities and "life success" fall along a spectrum (bell curve). There are people out in the world that are superior to you in almost all areas of life. Some egos cannot deal with that reality and seek to hurt or belittle others in order to bring them down to their level.
+Miquel Bernal No, they didn't laugh because he was still setting up the gag. There was no punch line until he got to the "communicate by corn" bit. They laughed at that.
This guy is AWESOME... Great job and speech or should we say "set". hehe Comedy comes from REASON - actually HIGH REASON. :D It is being about to see the details and parts and all he said - but also see the incongruities and mistakes and from a different context. FANTASTIC -- I would totally see this guy's show!
vSTRENGTHINFINITEv; so true! Ever notice on those tv shows that highlight bands from the 80s (mtv era) they always have a bunch of comedians giving their take on the band's, songs and culture of the times. And their observations are always dead on! Comedians are excellent observers.
As a guy who some would say is pretty smart, although I have my sincere doubts, Comedy is greater for me than any scientific achievement I could ever hope to achieve. If I was Einstein I certainly would know it by now. If I can make humans connect and understand through a good joke, well friend I'd much rather do that. I hope you all understand.
PEAR Labs, the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research Lab, did multiple experiments where they showed that people's intention biased a mechanical ball bell curve just like the one he showed, as well as quantum random number generators, etc.
"Being good at math was a masculine quality". That was the reason why girls were not studying it. His conclusion: "wow but girls at high school didnt like me T.T" How funny... hope that he was a better programmer.
This was entertaining but if you want to save 10 minutes: computer engineering and comedy are similar because they both require creativity. That’s the only thing he said about that.
He's funny but I'm leaning more towards crop circle as a means of communication towards majority of mankind who isn't still tech savvy by beings we aren't familiar with. After all, what better way of communication than crop circle to put in right in front of our face, with neurotic species who is so much in self denial ?
Reallity is like a More pattern. If you take your bias and lay it on the universe you will see patterns. Humans construct a world view and our limited perceptions graph against that world view producing connections that appear to make sense . If ten people see an event and then describe it to someone else it would resemble ten different events. Our view is subjective but we insist it is objective. What you see is in your head and is constructed in your brain built with learned blocks . Stage magick demonstrates this Your brain expects things to work in the way you have experienced them and simple slight of hand and misdirection can have you believe that a miracle has happened . Your reality is a model you have built and you compare perceptions against that model if the events do not fit in your model then you have to reconstruct the model or deny the events ie not believe it. Beliefs are emotional sometimes it takes emotional trauma to change them If you challenge peoples belief it causes distress on an emotional level
+1lightheaded "Our view is subjective but we insist it is objective. What you see is in your head and is constructed in your brain built with learned blocks ." I think quite often people confuse the subjectivity of a person with the subjectivity of truth. You can say our view is subjective, but it is extremely easy to turn a subjective truth into an objective one by simply rephrasing the statement. For example: "Chocolate ice cream is the best flavor of ice cream."(Subjective) turns into "One mind in the universe evaluates chocolate as the best flavor of ice cream."(Objective) Of course our perceptions are subjective to each individual mind, but the act of perceiving is a real phenomena in the universe. Again another objective truth. We can see both sides of the coin if we look hard enough.
What I understand from this is also different from what you probably were trying to put forth, and hence there would be no real point in explanation. But I get it. But I also disagree with it. It's both :/ Hence I agree with what Tanner said.
Thanks Wayne. You were one of the most talented programmers i ever met (i'm one of the geeks at the 3:10 mark). Now you are an equally gifted comedian. Proud to have worked with you!
Really? Who's you on that picture?
yup comedians and computer engineers are very alike. people laugh at a comedian's jokes and a tester laughs at a developer's codes
anon ymous high five from a tester here.
And a Sysadmin laughs at both. :)
@@AndreCesarSa ou-yeah? How about Electician?
So I checked my Dictionary after you talked about fifty, and it said, "Ten less than sixty."
That’s not even going to work recursively
@@aDifferentJT It won't terminate as a program (return as a function), but mathematically it works. Just recurse till infinity :)
Kenionatus it works mathematically by going backwards
His voice at times sounds like Peter Griffin lol
koruki Shut up, Meg.
koruki hahaha I can't even watch the video now without laughing
koruki ; )
@koruki you're right
koruki You are right. He does sound like Peter Griffin. I actually had to look it up so see when I read you commet. He's not but he does sound like him. He should be using that to his advantage.
14 business days ... lmfao. Thanks Wayne, awesome tedx
8:01 "mastered intergalactic hyperdimensional space travel, AND, communicate by corn"
I laughed so hard.
7:12 "14 business days" XD
I love this dude's epiphany.... mine is different but aligned in the higher order of things. Sense of humour.... god, I wish my sons had this marvelous quality in such spades. LOL
Brillaint
Watching this the fourth or fifth time now. Gets better every time.
Huh.... now I know why my colleagues laughed at me when I said I can fix their network.
What he said at the end, so true, looking all the possibilities and what naturally emerges from them, that's the human potential solving problem capability and a realistic perspective over reality
That bell curve machine has been at the Boston Museum of Science ever since. I saw it as well as a kid. And I’m pretty sure it’s still there.

Inspiringly Noice 👍
most people didnt laugh at the circles joke cause they actually believe in it
+Miquel Bernal I noticed that too... ^^ I didn't laugh at that as well....... xD
+Miquel Bernal
They were a bit too... corny... for me! ;D
+Miquel Bernal Same here. BTW, isn't part of quantum theory reliant on this idea of a "ball" on a bell curve?
+Miquel Bernal No, they didn't laugh because he was still setting up the gag. There was no punch line until he got to the "communicate by corn" bit. They laughed at that.
I thought it was hilarious.
This guy is AWESOME... Great job and speech or should we say "set". hehe

I hate having headphones on. A you can hear is saliva.
YouStoleMyToast Not the headphones, either his mic is too sensitive or he speaks wierd. I'd go with the mic problem.
YouStoleMyToast Fuck you, now I cannot unhear it. xD
Damn you!
I would love to have this guy for my Mathematics' teacher. The probability of my scoring good grades would certainly be high I am sure.
Surprisingly insightful and yet simple. I can better see now why I have an inclination both for programming and comedy.
Deep message at the end. Nice!
Pro tip about your life-changing bell-curve machine:
_A binomial distribution isn't a bell curve_.
Mr bean (rowan atkinson) has a masters of engineering
+Abdullah Rahman wow......never knew that
+Abdullah Rahman he has credit for being a moron (mr. bean) but in real life he is is literally as smart as stephen fry
Abdullah Rahman lol
He studied electrical engineering I think!
at 3:25 i see mr bean and leonard hophstadter
They really have to start computer engineering in the 5th grade
wow amazed by his insights
Sorry, well i always thought 50 was 70 minus 20. I think you need to check your facts.
You're wrong. My fact checker said 50 is 500/10
Nishka Arora No. 50 is 25 twice. Feels younger that way ...
This is good! He reminds me of a smarter chevy chase that still has his hair.

ahepperl I’m with you man
ahepperl or women
I see this a lot in the science world. Although Neil Degrasse Tyson skipped comedian and went straight from scientist to being a joke.
And then a meme was created. Because we got a badass over here.
PEAR Labs, the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research Lab,
did multiple experiments where they showed that people's intention biased a mechanical ball bell curve just like the one he showed, as well as quantum random number generators, etc.
+Hal337 wow! I believe it.
Hal337 A little birdie named Wikipedia told me that the PEAR Lab was total bullshit.
brilliantly funny !
i think i have to join these two things . and make something crazy !
i mean programming and comedian !
They are very alike in the sense that 90% of the time you did it wrong
He sounds like a mature version of Peter Griffin's son, haha
Yup. Who desperately needs a glass of water.
sir u r awesome...respect from india
This guy is the parallel persona of william shatner.
What about Mechanical engineers ???
am i the only one who immediately checked whether a dictionary contains numbers??
I wrote code that worked but it took 75 lines, the 3 smart programmers did the same thing with 20 lines of code !!!!
i didn't know peter griffin was into computer engineering
M A L A K O I M E N T E
Bill Gates is the sexiest man alive
3:16 muhahaha :')
2019.
But... ETs communicate by corn because it´s original!
Bill Cosby huh... bet he won't repeat that today
